Become a Copy Cat KING like your good buddy Uncle Ben Eller! I STOLE this rad shred picking sequence from Jake E. Lee's Bark at the Moon (Ozzy Osbourne) solo and disguised it just enough that you'd never know.... ever good artist is a thief, and I'm here to show you how to do it! This is an excellent way to get more mileage out of everything you learn and to start finding your own voice on the guitar. I'll show you the original, the variations I made, the alternate picking techniques you need to play it, then how to flip it and reverse it Missy Elliot style for MAXIMUM GAINS! Lets go!
Gear:
Jackson American Series SL2 HT Soloist (amazing!!!!)
Synergy Soldano SLO

I was LITERALLY watching a Dream Theater video from you like 4 days ago and thinking "man I'm shocked he's never talked about Romeo before." And there it is. Symphony X is criminally underrated. Thanks for this one man.
Romeo's solo albums are also terrific! The one with Dino Jelusick on vocals is superb!
Not so much underrated, just after their time imo. By then, most people (except players) had moved on I think. Damnation Game was soo amazing.
@@oldguyjammin9732 to me Divine Wings of Tragedy was their peak... followed closely by Odyssey (the orchestral arrangement is godly)
@@shaharbar I don't think SX had a peak. That's the crazy part and why i think they're so underrated. My favorite is V and actually their newest album. They've done so many different things and yet everything is solid. Not a single bad album on their disc after their first one. I've never seen such a consistent band.

Can’t get enough Symphony X content unk. Also Michael Romeo has some of the most underrated nasty pinch harmonic moments ever recorded.
That guy has composed some of the best riffs, solos, and compositions, and not ONCE has he been on the cover of Guitar World! Crime against musicians, really. SX are Kings.
that is a CRIME!
the dark chapter is an amazing solo album by MR. i like it far better than anything hes ever done with SX. check it out, if you've never heard it.
Yet Tommy Lee was on the cover…last of my subscription to that rag.
Absolutely agree 😢 Romeo is a freakin monster , so underrated
Uncle Ben showing his huge heart with the scared pup. I was already a big fan, but now even more so. I sure am glad that your parents got together and made an Uncle Ben!
This is perfect. Ive been practicing a ton of clasical covers lately, AND shopping around for a new Ibanez. Then Uncle Ben just shows up and shreds a neoclassical excercise on a purple RG prestige.
I'm the best worst influence!
Greatest band on planet Earth currently
MR is one of the most underrated guitar players out there!
Uncle Ben giving us a study of one of my favorite guitarists in the world!?! LETS F*$&_ING GOOOOO! Seriously, Symphony X is one of my favorite bands, and Michael Romeo is just Amazing in his writing and how effortless and nonchalant he is at pulling all that playing off live.
Michael Romeo and Symphony X are criminally underrated.
Next we'll need a lesson to Romeo's signature string skipping tapping madness. That is a pain in the ass!
I friggin love Symphony X and Romeo. I'd love lessons on any lick in any solo.
Thanks for the tip about keeping the thumb toward the middle of the neck. Now I'm knuckle deep fingering the pattern and getting nothing but compliments.
MR is my absolute fave guitarist in the genre. His technical skills are just out of this world, he has creative solos but is a tremendous rythm player as well (and people should talk more about that). Just listen to how groovy he is when riffing in songs like Set the world on fire, Charon and Dehumanized 🤘
I have an RGT42 that’s like the little brother of that guitar and it’s a great thing, and I’m sure the prestige model is even better.
MR is easily one of THE guitarist IYKWIM. His technique, smothness, economy is just insultingly good. Easily Deity-Level guitarist... also Uncle, I know it's stupid question, but who exactly is Francis Bubbletrousers?... :dead:
Also-also: Please send hugs to cute Turkey - Everything will be all right, m8!
What would we do without Uncle Michael and Symphony X...
Saw them once in Germany, with Pagan's Mind and DGM as supporting acts. Both awesome, but Symphony X... just blew the f*cking roof off the venue. And I got the honour of being pointed at by Russell Allen when he sang "...hit the switch, you son of a bitch..." during Dehumanized. Best "being cussed at" of my life 🤣🤣
On a more technical note... I know Uncle Michael has prodigious skill (understatement of the year), but these arpeggios at the end of the "Divide & Conquer" solo are just... beyond. Meta? That right?
And he is picking everything! Every damn note. No hammerons/pulloffs.
Having said that... after his playthrough came out, cats were posting videos left and right, playing that solo. Then he did a playthrough of "Hybrids"...
It's been a year since, and nobody has dared to put up even half of it (I have only tried to figure out a few positions... putting it together and playing it is a completely different thing). No wonder... MJR's solos are no joke at best, devastating at worst.
I have a lot of trouble with a 5 fret stretch, so much so that it actually hurts. Four fret is comfortable so more in this neighborhood would be great! As usual, your playing is fantastic!
I recently discovered At Vance on the spotifys, and was shocked that I'd never head them before, I mean who is their lead guitar player? Well, this is another one I will have to check out. I will be working on this! Thanks Big Ben
Yeah I've discovered At Vance because of Yngwie on Spotify. Their tone sounds distinct and super smooth and juicy.
Awesome! I’ll be seeing Symphony X next month! 🤘
Romeo is so underrated. Awesome riffs, effortless speed and a lot of creativity.
For me, the problem is his tone. Same as virtuoso beasts like Greg Howe. Anyway, I still think The Odyssey is a masterpiece.
It’s always a dream to play neo classical guitar
Hey uncle Ben!! Man your channel has become an addiction! As usual, brilliant content!
Glad you enjoy it!
Love this guy and his riffs.
Thanks Uncle Ben !
"Just the tip... I bet you'll like it." LOL! 🤣
Awesome doggo and awesome lesson!!
Uncle Ben absolutely slaying it
After starting the post: "Heck, yeah! I want to play like Michael Romeo!"
After hearing the lesson at full speed: "Or I could play like Lil' Wayne."
😉
I thought he was gonna say..especially if you practice it on an Ibanez guitar, I like things that are nice
My dog and I have a similar experience every 4th of July.😬
Sweet! Another e-tude! I still play an e-tude you dropped for us a while back - one of my favorite alt picking exercises. 👍🏻
the dark chapter by michael romeo, is one of the best instrumentals I've ever heard.
Gerat stuff Uncle Ben!
MAB. Try the early tapes. Now that you are ready and able. Good stuff. Im off to my bat cave to lock this in. Thank you. ☺
Great stuff as always Ben. Thanks.
Hey Ben!
I still own an old video tape of Michael Romeo, that I cant watch to now, without tape player.
This big guy is a phenom.😊
Thx for these licks!
This was the Andalusian Cadence following the progression. Personally I would use an arpeggio worked in with the scalic exercise. 2 octave arpeggio most likely in a different position. Just my thoughts.
ROMEO the shread KING.
I forgot how much like Symphony X!
Thanks for the tab thank god for for screen shots 😂
love it.
Very sweet RGT you have there Ben! Not so easy to find the neck-thrus with Lo-Pros.
Please let Turkey know we’ve all got his six ❤️.
I'm positive this was inspired by Fallen, absolute beast of a song
Always awesome but I thought you would use the new one lol that is cool too amazing as always ty💯🎸🔥💣
Sounds a lot like Last Kiss from the 60s.
SICK RGT3120 THO. IBANEZ! BRING BACK THE ULTRA NECK U COWARDS!!!!
Yo Ben love the videos and you're a great player. I'm saying this from a happy place that makes me smile but I'm going to pick on you a little bit just for a second. Nothing major but this one definitely felt like that old Frank gambali instructional video where he had like four people behind him all playing Ibanez s series guitars and bright colors with Warner brother Looney tunes stickers all over it and everyone was playing the same thing. Please tell me you've seen that video because I used to do that all the time it was like a damn workout video for guitar.
Romeo is what YJM should have become!?!? :o Damnation Game \m/
Uncle ben, i've struggling with the guitar bits from mastodons new album ( hush a grume). Perhap a mastodon lesson is in order?🤔
Any particular tunes?!
@@BenEller the main chuga chuga bit from (more than i could chew) in particular. It's quite difficult to hear whats going on with all those wacky hammer ons and low pitched chugas. I couldn't find any accurate tab either.
I suck at guitar because I hate woodshedding. It's so tedious and monotonous. But yeah, Romeo is the best. He smokes everybody.
Sweeping string skipping arpeggios tapping next?
hmm lol
Idk if I would say ANdalusian is "Neo-classical" XD, but cool
Damn man so how do you choose what guitar to do for the video since you have so many lol
I wanna know that process. I can't even buy my first one from this bs nylon i have since I am coming from the piano
I am so perplexed It's funny because I really am thinking about the polar lights, with the fishman , so you're the best.
Hey uncle Ben, is that an rgt3120 you are playing in this video? It looks like a dead ringer to mine (amber) except for the colour. I've heard there were purple ones out there but this might be the first clip I've seen of one in action. Does this one have a flame top? Its hard to tell on camera.
RGT3120, yeah flame top!
@@BenEller that is a rare beauty right there!
I'm subscribed but this video doesn't appear in my subscriptions. Something may have gone un-checked when posting.
Man, I was wondering… views are oddly low. Sometimes the algorithm gods choose to randomly not place stuff in people’s feeds. Not really sure why this happens.
Same, showed up in Patreon but not on YT.
Yarway mousemeat 😂
There were peas in the food i ate last night apparently
Francis Bubblepants …Frank Gambale?
Sweetwater couldn’t hook you up with a Caprison to really get Michael’s spirit flowing through your fingers?
Haha man I would love to try one of those!
Demons fucking rules by the way. Also, Ben, check out Sister Blue by Mindfunk. It'll be right up your alley.
Ça doit faire trop mal.
Sounds like spanish music.
Alright meow
"But in the Latin alphabet, 'Jehovah' begins with an 'I'".
I'm literally watching that movie right now on my TV. For the 1,000th time. Too funny.
No puffy shirt. Reported!
I don’t feel like you’re doing Romeo justice here tbh. You’re picking out one of the most basic straight forward runs of all time. His solo runs and riffing on the newer albums are absolutely bonkers. What makes Romeo crazy is his insane string skipping, pinch harmonics, selective palm muting and tapping runs. Which you show none of here. Taking a stab at Sea of Lies, now that would be sick to watch.
