  • Lots more snow this week, meant lots of time on the treadmill. Slipped and fell on some ice, but still got in a decent week of training!

      When I saw that run on Strava, I kinda had a feeling... I've had too many real close calls right there to ever really trust what's under the snow... and I'm sure I'll still have more close calls, it's just one of those spots 😂

      Yeah its always shaded. It just looked like fresh snow, but NOPE! lol Be careful out there!

    Too much snow man. We had one 6 inch snow a few weeks ago and I’m good until next year. 60 degrees here Saturday. And that trip to France looks awesome man! Bucket list for sure!

      We have definitely had more snow this year than we did last year. Thanks, Mike!

    Do the Coastal Challenge in Costa Rica! 6 stages = 250Kms in pretty much middle of the jungle - super hot and humid- best experience of my life

      That's what I think too! Looks like such an amazing experience. I can see myself trying to do all the World Trail Majors races. They all look incredible. I hope to do one international race per year starting in 2025.

    Ice under the snow is dangerous! Hope you are OK. All your snow days we basically got in Santa fe, too. But no running for me. Hip/ glute issues and cannot ignore at my age. Any, good luck, be careful!

    Great video as always. My only comment (and who am I to comment this really) but I think the ROI on running anywhere there could be ice (especially that you can't see) is just not worth it. The time and energy we (you) put into our bodies for running and then one slip and it could be game over for a season or worse. That outdoor run vs. treadmill that day is going to make almost no difference in the long run. The moment I even sense ice under snow (or anyway I can't see it) that's it that's all folks for that run:)

      Yeah that’s why we chose that route, thinking it would be safe. lol wrong 😂 but yeah I agree.

    You can always try the Arc of Attrition in England. I would love to run a trail race in Scotland myself.

    I too have noticed your head being close to the ceiling 😂
    I didn’t know flying in a plane can affect how you feel after a race…I’m going international this year as well, doing something different though 😅
    I vote that race in France, what an experience!

      I saw you are going international; very cool! Yes, after a long race being couped up in a small seat with no legroom would not be ideal. Leg cramps and discomfort. I may actually look at flying back business class so I can lay flat. Depends on how much it will cost lol.

    Split squats are a staple for me as I rebuild my fitness. That and step ups. I think the key is that they are both single leg so there's no compensation by a stronger side. I hope you cover the macro view of your new plan in your next video before jumping into the weekly review. I start my new 50k training plan this week and it's always exciting what starting a new plan means as you think about the fitness you hope to unlock.
    I do have a question - what method do you use to determine "easy" for you?

    • @UltraTrailSteven
      @UltraTrailSteven  5 місяців тому +1

      Yes single leg exercises are great! I know I have an imbalance due to my history of rolling my left ankle. As for my "easy" pace, I determine that generally by feel. Somedays a faster pace feels easy, somedays its a slower pace. However, I do try to keep my heart rate below 150 bpm on easy days, and generally closer to 140 bpm. Sometimes after a poor night sleep, a pace that felt easy one day just feels to forced on other days.

    "get me back on my feet so I can tear ____ up"! Love the training videos man. Keep em coming! We dont have that much snow up here in Portland so its hard to imagine those conditions, but I did fall on a training run on ice a few weeks ago, and still nursing a bruised finger from catching myself.

    Could you use shoe covers/ yak track for running on the trails in the snow? I’ve used them before, no slipping at all. I know I’m a hobby runner…but they helped me train for a 70 miler I did….

    • @UltraTrailSteven
      @UltraTrailSteven  4 місяці тому +1

      Yes absolutely. They help on ice, but not really on snow. In this case, the ice was hidden under snow.
