There are a lot of videos about these S900/950 that seem to always refer to their use as Hip Hop or Jungle samplers. I have used mine for 20 years sampling my own drum kits and assembling rhythms for roots reggae production and it still sounds phat and thick with plenty of kick.
Love my S950. I find D500 on the timestretch gives enough of a metallic sound while still retaining some musical aspects. My favourite is running breaks through it dropping the transpose and slapping some heavy Chours on the buss! Lush! Thanks for the vids Bizzy, true inspiration!
Thanks for this great video. I got my S950 new back in the days. I still have it in my rack although I have not used it for 20 or so years. This vid inspires me to do some music with it. On my channel I plan to show the sample editor I made, with S950 support.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It's amazing to see how the video inspired you to revisit your S950. Excited to see your music and sample editor on your channel!
Akaizer sounds close but listening to your time stretched vocal it sounds more musical on the AKAI S950, I've always wondered how they did it on the those old rave tracks, turns out they just used the original hardware as is.
it's weird because obviously if you have a timestretch that doesn't really react to the sample itself and just goes in a straight line, it would make sense to add a refined version as another option, which akai did at first, but once the s-series samplers went out of production they just did away with the cyclic algorithm entirely despite an entire genre being built off of its legendary sound. it doesn't make sense to me, because it's a very effective form of stretching. like if used on a lower cycle rate, it loses the metallic quality and can sound very natural, as opposed to most other granular or even spectral timestretches which always color the sound in one way or another. at the time it was genius, and imo still kinda is. instead of lining up repeated chunks of a sample together, it progressively pushes each chunk forward a notch and evenly flows and fades them into eachother, eliminating the robotic quality of timestretch and making this much more natural, reverberating sound.
Hi ! Thanks for the video.. One question, which mpc from akai is able to trig (100% works with ) and send/receive from and to an s950 s1000 and s6000 ? How and with which connections ? Thanks.. Paulo
I have the 900 I bought it just to get a massive sample library so I could use it with the unit that connects to my korg wave station called the sam1 Double Dutch It connects to the PCM card slot And allows me to use sample wipers from various samples of the time For the PCM data that would normally be on the cards which are very limited What is the economy 950 give you if it's not in the 900 Honestly I haven't even used it
Watching this video makes me regret ever getting married, I miss my hardware, software is ok but there something special doing it the old way with hardware
thx 4 your video!my s900 sometimes crashed and all button didn't work.all I can do was turn off.does your s950 have the same problem?do you know why?I guess maybe because of overheating:(
S950 sample pack when? Proper Akai time stretch with raw breaks without any programmed beats, S950 processed raw breaks, anything you need for old school choppage. There really isn't anything like that and I've looked a lot because raw breaks are licensed.
haha that's because "some sad coward" is subbed to the channel to release their toxic vibes on the mans dem, I have heard there is a new analytic feature coming to see members who like and dislike videos, so all will be revealed!

Nice one bro! Welcome to the AKAI family!
Bizzy demonstrating exactly how he's cooked up ravers brains over the years. Your knighthood is long overdue, sir. I recommended you back in 1993.

Respect!
Good Vibes mate. Friend what do u think of the MPC One?
Mint!
Isn't the time stretch algorithm different from the S900/S950 to the later Akai samplers? I think I've read that somewhere.
the new algorithms suck

Cool peice of kit. Was the s950 used to splice up breaks?
Isn't the d-time just a delay?
sorry for the late reply, yes you can chop up breaks on it too, with allot of time and care!
Big up all jungelist!
