I own all of their models and eagerly awaiting the new model 3. Every Sunday, I tune up my knives and it takes me less than 5 minutes. Easy and effective.
I am looking into knives sharpeners atm, never used one ever. I think it is too easy to say the horl is crap. It is not, it might be pricey but by no means crap. That you like other options better, fine. But your Tormek is power driven, I personally don’t like that. To make clear I have not bought any sharpener yet, so I am not biased towards Horl or any other sharpener. Just reviewing different options and I think for people that don’t know anything about sharpening, this tool might do wonders. Every sharpener has its pros and cons, just buy the one that suits your needs.
I own the Horl 2 pro and the Tormek. The Horl is a tool I can use anytime to tune up my knives, the Tormek is great for sharpening a knife that has been abused and very dull. Both great tools, just different applications.
I have Horl prob2. I have experimented with all their tools. The price of the Horl pro 3? Makes me buy a Tormek T1 virtually same price. Quicker better, has all the merits of the Horl 3 but better, faster, even easier. I have Horl and Tormek. I now never use the Horl system…. Greatly preferring Tormek T1
@@TonysTravels2023 that is totally fine . Both systems have there pro and cons. I also have 4 T4 tormeks which is use for my outdoor knives. For Chefknives i personally prefer the horl and maybe it is also i change up in work flow for me to do something different and at home i only got a small flat i like the compact size of the horl to quickly sharpen my knives instead of bringing my T4 with me at home
@ I have T1 and T2. Don’t get me wrong, Horl is OK. But they have moved to a price point where better systems are available. I think the Horls place is keeping knives good when they have had anglevrectified, if a knife is damaged, has been Poorly sharpened, or rarely sharpened? Horl is not the right tool. The standard stones that come with it will take ages to pull back, correct the angle of an abused knife. I can do it easily with Tormek. I had to (had to) buy additional stones for the Horl to make it cope. Out of the box, Tormek T1 does every task. It spanks Horl It’s standard stone will re grind a poor angle easily. Best regards. PS Apologies didn’t say, nice informative vid. Well done,
"No." Get a Worksharp, Get a Tormek T1, Get a Worksharp Field Sharpener, get a Shapton 320, 1000, and 5000, get a Lansky system...don't buy this overpriced, inflexible half-baked crap.
@@Firkraag1 that is your opinion and that is fine with me i got a different one My biggest problem is also the price if you have watched the full video
@@dyngs that is your opinion if you think that of me i am okay with that But i can have my owne opinion and i stand by that. Everyone can have there owne thinking about it Cheers
As someone who cooks a ton, and knows the value of a high quality sharpened knife, and the fact they NEED to be sharpened frequently to maintain that level, this does FEEL a bit pricey but given the quality, materials, and the fact that it can do quite literally any knife, of any angle, of any material it starts to feel a little less pricey. Also given the fact it comes standard with a diamond disc and ceramic disc, definitely helps too, most diamond whetstones cost quite a bit anyhow and you need many different grits to achieve the right sharpness. I suppose being able to do it in payments also helps make it more manageable, but this is also speaking as a genuinely useful piece of equipment that I'll use constantly, and will make it far easier to sharpen my knives...as opposed to wasting 2 thousand on a GPU that will give maybe 5 more fps than the one I already have. But that's my opinion.
Though I should note I'm not saying there's no other options, it all comes down to compatibility I used to use whetstones a lot, and found it therapeutic, but it was also tiresome and caused me soreness from time to time on any of my really badly maintained knives/friends knives It all comes down to personal preference, and while I'm positive there's much faster options, I'd say for me personally this would serve a therapeutic purpose as well rather than just a task.
