- Hello there 👋
Welcome to the home of the Red Special Guitar Podcast.
Today we have the pleasure of the company of the one and only Tim Staffell.
Tim was friends with Brian May and Roger Taylor and was in a number of bandswith Brian and Roger adj as 1984 and most famously Smile. Tim chose to leave for a solo career and this led to Tim’s friend Freddie Mercuy joining May and Taylor to form Queen.
Tim and I take a deep dive in to his memories from those early years and where his career has taken him. From Music to Film Making and back to Music.
This really is a fascinating conversation and a great insight in to Tim's life and career.
Tim's third solo album, 'Wayward Child' is coming out this year.

Listening to The Red Special Guitar Podcast makes me smile and, by happy coincidence, Tim Staffell was actually in Smile. Well done getting Tim on RSGP Jon! 🙂
Thanks Doug! 😄
Good stuff! Nice to finally put a face and a voice to a name I've read in so many books about Queen.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Brian and Roger still need Nov put the Smile songs on streaming services. Enjoyed Tim's stories.
he is cool! nice chat.
He certainly is cool
Forgot to say, i saw Tim play with Bri and Rog at The Marquee in London Decemeber 92' for a fan club members only The Cross gig (last but one gig). I'd love to quiz Tim on his memories of that gig.
Incredible! How modest and dignified Tim is I would say he deserves huge acknowledgment for alone. He has one of the greatest bragging rights in music of all time (the link between Brian and roger meeting Freddie) and yet he’s never in the slightest let it go to his head. Amazing guy. Great interview.
Couldn't agree more. Thanks for watching Wayne
Lovely episode, really enjoyed when Tim talked about the distortion booster
Thanks for listening Andrek
Nice job, Jono! Great to hear from Tim and lovely to hear more about his career. Lots of stuff I didn't know. Looking forward to the new music!
Thanks Luke. Tim was a great guest and a great human. Very self aware!! Let’s all be more Tim
That was fantastic 👏
Glad you enjoyed it
Great interview! Really enjoyed this!
Awesome, thank you!
Is anyone building Red Specials in the USA anymore? I know Woody is doing conversions, but where can I source a custom build for a reasonable price of only one leg?
Not that I know of I am afraid.
@@TheRedSpecialGuitarPodcast I have a quote in at Carpinteri for an aged Bohemian RS, any knowledge of his RS's?
Tim still hasn't made it in the music business sadly
