Quick note: The gas station is not finished, actually, it's not even started. I only placed it there to stage it and work on it in a future episode. Sorry for not addressing that properly during the commentary, I thought it was pretty obvious given the level of detail of everything else I've done so far ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Unfortunately there is no definitive way to fix the far away trees, but this mod improves it a bit: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1349895184
The guardrail in middle of the highway... Is that how they do things where you live? Over here, there's a ditch and that's it. It's usually more then enough to prevent anyone from ending up on the other side of the grass median.
I love this project, it has a nice Scandinavian feel to it. Very authentic. I wanna point out though that roundabouts don't have full stops--that'd kinda defeat the purpose of a roundabout--they have give-ways. Stop signs are actually very rare to find throughout Europe, I believe, it's more an American thing.
Well, to add to the stop sign thing, in Finland we have those pretty much only in some slow-speed to high-speed intersections outside the bigger city areas, not with highways, but with some like 70-80km/h roads intersecting with like 40-50km/h roads, like when you leave a city and get on a bigger road. There's not usually lights since there's not that much traffic but yeah, stop signs tell the slower coming cars to stop and wait for an opening to slip in. But yeah, roundabouts definitely don't have stop signs haha.
People arriving by train and goods being delivered mostly by trucks is actually pretty realistic by European standards. Though I would add the catenaries back, since such a main two track rail line would probably be electrified in Europe.
I imagine you could take advantage of the attraction park districts to create rest stops with actual visitors. I'm not sure how the park entrances could be disguised, or if they are entirely necessary, but I always enjoy seeing the little sims visiting player-designed spaces.
This theme, I'm absolutely amazed by it every episode and now I've seen the night sky it's even more amzing, the person who made this really did a great job! And you're doing a great job too, building Nydal, it looks better every episode! :)
I think the gas station looks a little barren. There isn't even a service building there. Maybe its just an american thing, but there are always convenience stores at most gas stations.
Also, at least where I live it’s quite rare to see an entire interchange dedicated to one gas station. Rather, these stops tend to spring up at the corners of pre-existing interchanges.
pretty sure the rv's are interested in visitting parks or unique buildings, when you dont have any in the city they will realize it when they are already on the way to the city and turn around since the RV's dont have anything to visit, thats my theory dont take my word for it.
I would suggest adding a u-turn to each of the incoming highways right on the edge of the map so that those rv's can leave almost immediately and won't cause heavy traffic on the roundabouts anymore.
What I did about trucks was, I use the mod that allows me to control what vehicle spawns, and replaced all lorries with vans or pickup trucks so that busses were the only large vehicle. This worked well aesthetically and it also reduced the traffic load. The stretch of road that will fit only 3 semi trucks can give you 5 or 6 cars tailback in the same space.
Talking about the removal of the lights along parts of the road for realistic reasons. In Norway, most major roads do in fact have street lights, even far away from intersections and “civilisation” in general ☺️
Had a similar problem with vehicles going weird ways and making u-turns where it made no sense, found out that it might be caused by the pedestrian roads from NEXT2. I don't know if that is really the cause, but in the end, I have decided to disable those roads in NEXT options and instead make pedestrian only roads using the textureless networks, disabling vehicles using TMPE and I never had that problem again. Don't know if you are using these in Nydal, but that might be the problem.
Tollbooth depends on where you are in Europe - most countries have an automated toll-systems where they just scan the windscreen for a toll-sticker. However for special roads there is often an extra toll (like the Brenner-Highway between Italy and Austria) where there is a "normal" toll booth.
Because of the location and how much effort you put into the ramps already, it would be cool if you expanded that gas station into a whole rest area. Maybe add a convenience store, restaurant, or a Nydal visitors center; and by the water put a nice park area with benches and picnic tables.
I don’t think those crash barriers are needed in between the carriageways, when they are that far apart. Also, the two carriageways aren’t normally that far apart in Europe; usually there’s only a gap of a few metres.
Yeah, on most european highways the lanes for both directions are divided by a meridian and double crash barriers and that's it. There sometimes is vegetation on the meridian, but it rarely gets wider than a single lane. Just image search "Autobahn" (highway in german) in google and you'll see.
Yeah, I've never seen a motorway in EU that has such a wide gap between two directions. Usually there's just a few meters of space between them to fit the crash barriers and maybe a shoulder and that's it. And most if not all gas stations have a small shop where I live. Otherwise they don't have a gas station at all and are just parking lots with portable toilets that act as truck stops. Others can have a small cafe, hotel or a fast-food place attached.
@@CroatianMinecrafter I agree to everything just not to the gas station. That's the real point of these Highways. Well maybe where u live there aren't so long stretches between two cities or one end and another end of a highway.
Cvncfhj Hfhdfcht it's mostly that self-checkout gas stations are practically non-existent so since they have a cashier they also have a miniature shop as well.

I had the U-Turn problem for a while too. This is a wild guess, but I *think* what maybe happens is that the cars enter the city, you change the roads (or anything else really), they recalculate their destination, then decide to turn around. My solution was to place a u-turn bypass closer to the edge of the map, which cars used for some time, then eventually everything settled again and I was able to remove the bypass road. Main interchange looks a lot better now, regardless!
Maybe the mod "Configure Ouside Connectioins Limit" can help with the dummy traffic. With that mod you can configure the amount of dummy traffic for each outside connection. But I think it is not updated for the lated DLC - so use with caution.
If there is no way to get rid of the RVs making weird U-turns, maybe make a different spot near the end of the map where a u-turn is possible? So, basically moving the problem to the end of the map where you won't really see it.
Hey strick I think you should add power lines to the main rail out of town Europes trains in most countries relay on power lines and not on diesel I think some rails in the town without power are fine but the main rail in and out of town definitely should be supporting power
