I Love Salt River Canyon, l grew up in the area. When l was 16 yrs old l worked there when there was a nice size restaurant there. I'm 76 now. My Dad worked the asbestos mine on the other side of Senaca Lake, maybe 15 miles pass the look out of the falls. Nice memories, thanks!
That was one of my favorite party spots back in the 80’s ! We would go swimming and drink a lot of beer and have a blast . The bridge I remember while technically being 2 lane was as you said barely wide enough for 2 pickup trucks let alone a semi coming the other way ! Watch the movie Midnight Run and you can get an idea of what the area looked like back in the day , they did a lot of filming at the canyon and on the Rez . The rest areas you visited used to have metal canopies covering them and people would travel just to eat lunch and look at the views back in the day . Also there is a secret swimming spot we called the quarry which was a good 1 hour hike but the cliff jumping was amazing ! You jump from high above and it is a narrow slit in the rocks and so dark you could not see the water below it was literally a jump of faith. If you ever find it do not disclose how to get to it but I wish I had a video recorder back in the day . The road itself is a lot wider than it used to be , it was very narrow with NO runoffs and my buddies dad actually used to drive people from one side to the other before the road was paved because back then it was actually a one lane road and extremely steep you can actually see part of the original road switching back and forth on the north side .
Hi Ricardo, Wow! Thank you for sharing the history and memories. If I find the secret spot I won't give it away. I appreciate the idea of spots like that staying hidden. Thanks again and have a great week!
my sister had a friend that lost his life jumping off the bridge back in the 70's i It was during summer time, He and his friend were swimming the river. His name was Darrell dont want to give a last name out of respect. I grew up in Pinetop-Lakeside and graduated BRHS class of 88.
Hi Darrell. That's too bad about your sister's friend. That would be scary jumping from there. I still have family in Pinetop. Love it up there! Have a wonderful week.

Beautiful! Still watching but wondering if you can camp there by the picnic tables?
I don't think you can camp there, but along the river there are campgrounds you can stay at with a permit. Hope that helps and have a great day!
Would be nice to hear more specifics. Equipment used, temp, cost, traffic, travel times, etc.
enjoying your videos. Huge potential.
Hi Gary, Thanks for the recommendations. I'll try to get that stuff in. See ya buddy!

Would have liked to have seen more of the camp sites. All you showed was the camp road.
