This video is so underrated, most groomers even on UA-cam are cutting the pomeranians hair too short and clipping all of their hair away, ruining their ability to handle heat and cold, dogs have fur, it's not hair, this could lead to Alopecia, I don't understand why this doesn't get more attention. Thank you for being so knowledgeable this really helped me a lot, I'm getting a pom next week and I'll be grooming him myself :D
At last. Someone who doesnt shave the pomeranian automatically. I have a pomeranian/yorkie. The first summer i had her i spoke to my groomer about taking her coat short. My groomer was so patient explaining the dangers of shaving double coated dogs. So glad she did. My baby goes to her groomer every 4 weeks. Always have short private area, her feet and around her eyes done. A trim on the body probably every 8 weeks. Thankyou for a lovely video.❤
As a dog groomer - the number of new clients I get with poms and long-coated chihuahuas (and even some collies and PUGS) - who just assume I'll shave them as a routine part of the groom because that's normal, right..??? I got caught off-guard a few times with it at first, when the client was annoyed on pick-up that I hadn't done what any 'real' groomer would do. So I quickly became more careful in my wording to make sure we're all on the same page. But goodness me, the number of times in any single week when I have to trot out the 'no, really, this is why you should not ask me to do this' speech...!
@@whitmerule2753 it makes me sad seeing double coated dogs shaved unnecessarily. Only because ive researched the best thing for my dog. When she is older and if it was necessary for her comfort id do it but apart from that i treat my dogs grooming etc like i did my children🤣 Probably better than them lol. I really wanted a boo cut on her but now i know better.
Thank you for this video. We're adopting a double coat chihuahua who has long hair, and this is the closest thing I can find online to help me with her coat! I want to be prepared and make sure she's well taken care of :) and it'll be a wonderful bonding experience with her.
I wanted to thank you! I used the slicker brush and saved myself from shaving my tiny toy poodle. I couldn't get any clippers so I cut him with only my very sharp and short shears. I'm a cosmetologist so I used to cutting all kinds of human hair. From watching you and your tips my poodle turn out fantastic...it did take me 4 hours 😏. But, I even impressed myself😁! Thanks!
Miss Amy, They Just Might Not Get Any Better Than You! Spot On! Top Notch! Bravo!Grade A+++! 2 Thumbs Up! Magnificent! You, Dear Lady, Are Greatly Appreciated!
My dog ALWAYS appreciated a pee break between shower and groom. A good dog gets very anxious when they know they have to pee but they don't get a chance. That gave him a lot more patience with the haircut after that break.
Although I have a grooming salon and are a successful doggromer for years (in the Netherlands), I love watching you and your video's and a lot of tips and tricks are amazing as they make a huge difference in the Dutch way of grooming (and groomers ;-) Thank you !
Love this for my Pomeranian rescue! It’s our first shedding season too and it’s fur everywhere!!! I gave her a bath yesterday and didn’t brush her as thoroughly before as this video and def will try it!!!!!! 💛
I give my triple coat Pom baths in the jetted tub. I condition him then fill the tub above the jets and comb him under water with the jets on. The fur slides off of him and all the hair ends up in the filter in the tub, easy clean up.
Thank you you so much for this, I have almost bought all suggested items. I live out in rural TX hard to find groomer. I have two Pom Chis they get car sick . lol So I do what I can at home. Thank you again. Most questions are answered in watching your videos.
Thanks so much, Amy, for emailing the response to my query about de-shedding my longhaired. Chi! I just watched the pertinent video, which is awesome!! Thanka again!
Go Groomer I am interested in the Prima and also the Save Your fur type. I have seen a video of the Deshed rinse on the s.y.f. Does the Prima have the same feature?
Lynn Oney of course. That’s why I demonstrated it on my arm. It is very gentle:) However, I do not use it on puppies until they are six months and older-just as a precaution due to their skin is so delicate at a young age. I have used a Prima bathing system for 15 years. That system produces the best bath possible for the dogs I groom💕
Go Groomer I did my full groom summer cut today after taking her “Jazz” to the dog wash. I have the Bravura and They did fine but I think I will be looking at the KM that you use for full groom when she is older. Jazz is only 6 months and will be getting somewhat larger. I did the paw technique that you used on this video and it works great. Taking Jazz to the dog wash was so much easier than the bath tub.
You are so great! Thank you for all the information you give. Will you do my dog? She is 1/2 Shihtzu and 1/2 Pomerania. I don’t have all 😢the tools that you have. I hope that I can find a good groomer that does all the things that you do. Blessings 😮
My Sassy is a Merle pomchi and Halley could be her twin. Great video great tips I will take it slow but hope to save some money and try some of your techniques thanks!
Best ive seen. I hate when the pom looks "fuzzy" after groom. Fluffy yes, but only the butt should look like a fuzzy peach, IMO. This baby looks perfect. I will show this to my groomer when we visit Tuesday for my 9 mo Phoebe's 1st groom. And if im not pleased afterwards, i will do it myself. Ur video has given me the confidence to try. N with practice im sure i can get it done. I do not want a fuzzy pom! 😂
@@GoGroomer Nooooo I didn't😍😍😍!!! I'm going to email you today. My grandpuppy Zoey (the tiny ShihTzu) breed is living with me temporarily. Yes definitely emailing you later today😍😍😍
I am disappointed with kenichii i bought one pair love thinning shear and they are dull came unbalanced and never used them i tried thein my cats bum amd they didn't cut
I have border collie/cattle dog mixes so no double coats, but dear lord they shed non-stop. Even with being fed a high-quality dog food and with getting regular bath/brushes. Thank god for forced air dryers, that helps the most.
@@GoGroomer One of ours has a little bit of a double coat, but the other two have a flat coat. Just enough like the cattle dog to shed, but without the normal double coat. Now I once had an Aussie mix years ago with a heavy double coat and she only seemed to shed twice a year when she blew her coat. With regular grooming, she never really shed, but these hooligans do it non-stop! (three pups from a pregnant rescue that we fostered.) It's strange how even though they are all siblings, one of them has a super flat coat, yet the DNA said border colline, cattle dog, basset hound, Siberian husky, and rottweiler.
'Flat' coats are double coats! Double doesn't have anything to do with the length of the coat: it means 'undercoat plus guard coat', and is the natural condition of all canids. There are only a few kinds of breeds, like drop coats (maltese etc) and curly coats (poodles and their crosses) which are single coated. Since these are artificially created, their coat can't maintain itself naturally, and it needs regular grooming and clippering or it will grow too long and mat up. Basically, if a dog sheds fur they're double-coated (and should not be clippered) and if they don't they need to be brushed multiple times a week and to have a full groom every 6 to 8 weeks.

Thank you for sharing. I have 2 poms 🐶🐶
Wonderful!
My dog type!!! YAY!!! I have one that is a blue Merle like Hallie, her name’s Dory Poseidon because of the way her fur reminds me of sea foam.
I use the same technique on horse ears during the winter to increase cuteness but keep warmth.
Tracey Meek very cool😊
It’s nice to watch you do the work with the trim. I’m learning so much, even though I have a doodle. Thank you 😊

brush, bath, brush again a dry every 4 weeks:)
What tub do you have and where did you order from?
Tristar vet
Thank you 🙏
do you have different loofas for each dog and wash?
no, I soak them in hot water, vinegar and a bucket to disinfect them.
Hi, what brush are you using in the beginning? Thank you!
If you never got your answer elsewhere: it's a slicker brush. Your most reliable everyday brush for most coats except smooth and short double coats.
What kind of thinning shears do you use?
Big Sister Maria Kenchii lightning 8 inch thinning shear. They are linked in the description of this video:) I love them!
Thank you 👍🌹
Hey Amy can I get a shout out next vid✌️
God bless you all!!
