As a dog groomer, i really liked watching this! You only trimmed off what was needed and stayed clear of the undercoat. You brushed and combed the dog well, and you also clipped the nails, all whilst your dog stood nicely and was relaxed. Good job! :D Such a cute little girl Emma is :D
Hello groomer. I have a lavender pom that I am keeping for someone long term. She is bigger than most poms and has tons of undercoat and tons of the coarse top coat that is very long. Do i thin out the undercoat? The owner shaved her before she came here but i thick tjat looks awful.
sir, instead when she barks call her name and when she stops barking and responds to your call treat her I am actually working as a volunteer with dog training school hence I know. Ur way might've correct for some dogs but some dogs might find it good to bark as they will get a treat after doing so.
what seems to work best for barking for all of my dogs is to have one symbol, whether it be a finger pointed at them, a stern “NO BARK”, or for my youngest dog we got a muzzle (before you call it abuse we only had to use it TWICE for a minute each), now whenever he barks I say NO BARK and he stops, in the rare occasion he doesn’t I grab the muzzle and show it to him and he stops RIGHT AWAY. it’s not painful, he just knows exactly what it is and that it means to stop barking. do not reward your dog for barking. and don’t reward it for being silent.. this is bullshit. you need to have a consistent signal to let your dog know NOT to bark because it’s BAD
Your Emma is the most tolerant Pom I have ever seen! I've had 6 male Poms in my life and I'd just like to share a few thoughts: be very careful that your Pom does not walk or jump off the table, don't take your eyes and hands off of them to make sure, always brush/comb before and after the bath, Pom fur mattes easily so you may have to brush more frequently depending on how thick the undercoat is, be careful to use warm and not hot water, not cold water, always use safety scissors with rounded tips (good job!), if your Pom has dark claws you cannot see the quick (the part of the claw that has blood in it) so it is important to only cut a little off the claw at a time, and if you do get bleeding, put pressure on the claw with a towel or napkin and have some styptic powder and Q-tips ready to apply to the claw to get it to stop bleeding, you may want to have eye wash handy to rinse their eyes because they have such an external eye and fur can stick to it and they can end up scratching their cornea, males need to have their penis fur trimmed with safety scissors, a metal comb is essential and I like a strong pin brush, good quality shampoo and conditioner (oatmeal is great for their skin), try not to get any water inside their ears because they have a tendency to get yeast infections in the ears from moisture. If you do get water in their ear, gently use a tissue to dab what you can out, and I very carefully use a Q-tip to wipe their external ear and go just a tiny bit into where the canal starts to remove any debris or wax buildup. You don't want to push the Q-tip in the ear much at all. If your Pom ends up shaking their head a lot, or incessantly trying to scratch their ear, they may have a yeast infection which requires topical medication from a doctor for about a week. The fur will get very greasy from this so it is best to keep their ears dry to avoid this. Any time you are grooming your dog is a good time to feel for ticks, lumps, asymmetry and investigate. I walk my Poms every day and do use a jacket on them in winter on very cold days. Don't forget to brush their teeth often! I don't use a blow dryer-I just towel them off well. They don't seem to like the noise and I worry about burning them with heat. I bathe them in the morning and let them run around the house all day to get really dry and brush them out once they naturally dry. Don't forget to give them lots of praise for cooperating. Many Poms don't like being groomed so it is important to introduce it when they are puppies and to take it slow and offer praise or small pieces of treats as rewards. If your dog has epilepsy you will want to keep their stress to a minimum and not spend so much time on grooming and just stick to the essentials-cleaning and combing. One Pom I had disliked being brushed so much that he would bite. My husband would have to hold him and I would brush him as best I could. He had fear based anxiety. Most of them dislike being brushed but tolerate it. Poms are wonderful little dogs and are so special. Thank you for helping other Pom owners.
I don’t own a Pom but I will do that with my two schnauzer I allreadyy take good care of there coat and a bath once a mouth but I will take a lot of these tips in mind
Hi Linda- I saw your post. Start short grooming sessions- start with just 5 minutes- combing and trimming her/his body with lots of treats/ praise so the dog finds the session rewarding. Do 5 minutes everyday for several days/weeks until the dog is relaxed. Then start grooming the head and add 2 minutes. You probably will have to take her to a professional groomer to do the rest. Over the next several weeks - you can get to 20 minutes. It takes patience and consistency. Good Luck!
My pom is also a doll like Emma when she's not harrassing me for food scraps. It depends on the individual dogs' personality to be honest. But some breeds do have tendencies to lean onto being more or less nuts, so to say, since they are mostly inbreeded. Also, each dogs' personalities stays relatively once they reach adulthood, hence why it's better to adopt adult dogs if you are looking for a certain temperament. Puppies grow up and, like human children, their personalities develop overtime so you don't know what you will get.
Just a little tip I'm sure you already know and forgot but if you brush her out thoroughly first before anything in the whole process is much easier. My Pomeranian appreciates that because it doesn't pull her skin as much she told me LOL. Thank you for sharing he did a great job
My experience with flea collars is mediocre at best anyway, and that's on short haired dogs! Bravecto on the other hand works great and you don't have to worry about a collar causing mats or anything! Your vet likely sells it, you have to have a prescription for it anyway.
I enjoyed watching Emma being groomed. The groomer was so gentle and explained each step so carefully. I have a Pom, Daisy, who is now 1 year old. She has professionally groomed one time and I have tried to keep her trained myself so I found this video to be very informative!
So cute. I love Poms. My 13 year old Pom passed away in April, but I can’t live without one. I miss my baby so much, but my new puppy will be here in 2 weeks. Can’t wait. I used to groom mine mysef too and learned by watching videos. Finally started taking him to the groomer when I couldn’t do it anymore. Don’t know if I’ll be grooming the new one yet. Great video. Your baby is so well mannered.
Thank you! I am a poodle groomer from 1974 & haven’t practiced in many moons. I have a Pomchi and I was shaving her down, she loved it! However, the last time it didn’t grow back quite right, so I was at a loss until I saw your methodic video which helped me break it down so I could pull it all together! She looks great and she’s enjoying a treat after her torture...lol! Finished just in time before she totally lost her patience with me. Thank you again, you made me a very happy lady!
I really appreciate your video. It seems I cannot get any professional groomer to clip my pom without the mane looking like an Elizabethan collar. You give me confidence to try myself. Emma is so cute, and you are a fabulous, articulate teacher.
Your instructions are really great. I’m always searching for a video and most all professional groomers that show the main steps but you show all the linking details between each section of the trimming. Finally! I now know how to trim each area to blend into the next section. AND Emma is ADORABLE! Your video has inspired me. I just hope I can achieve the same expertise as you.😊
What a beautiful little girl you have there. She's so patient and trusting. You did a marvelous job on her, looks professional. My little Pom died this past June of '23 at 17 years old. My little girl loved her bath because I used the shampoo as a massaging agent, she'd almost fall asleep. I hope you keep up with your videos of Emma, she's so precious.
What a sweet & well behaved little girl. I didn't hear a peep from her. You did much better than any professional groomer I have used for either of my poms. Emma is beautiful and reminds me of my Zoey that passed in 2019. She was a sweetie too, but very vocal! Thank you for sharing. Enjoy your precious baby.
Your little Emma is so adorable!!! Thank you for this very specific tutorial 🥰 You did such a great job at explaining and you can tell how much Emma trusts you
She looks fabulous! You did a great job! I have had two pomeranians in my life, and I had to take them to the groomers. There is no way I could have ever achieved what you did with Emma!
This was great! My mom is a new owner, and I was looking for videos that would help us find a proper groomer. Then I found yours and really enjoyed it. Mom lives in a rural area, and we don’t want to accidentally get a groomer who doesn’t understand the Pom coat. Your tips will help mom maintain on her own between professional grooms.
I just found your video and really appreciate your instructions. I have a rescued Pom and he's been through alot. After taking him to be groomed a few times, I was not satisfied and I think he couldn't wait to get home! I am about to begin grooming him myself. Thanks again for your instructions! Emma is a little angel.
Hi Alyssa! Like you, I also groom my pom “Maggie”. The groomers won’t accept her coz she would have episodes of seizure at times. Thanks for sharing your video. Emma is so well behave 😁 So cute🥰 Great job you two!
Hi, I have a Pom/Shiz, her name is Maggie May May 🐶💕. Also a Pom/Coton, Meadow Mazzy Star. 🐺💕. They are so wonderful and full of fluff! I also home groom. I luv it.
Hey My pom puppy is 3 months old and his but area is all tangled i cant bath him before of his vaccinations what do i do? I brush it everyday but i cant brush dry so i use coconut oil mixed with water but it still doesn’t help!
@@vinarahman9815 I would try out a brushing spray. My favorite is by Chris Christensen it’s called ice on ice. Spray the area that’s matted until it’s pretty much wet and work through his mats slowing from the end to the root with a wide metal grooming comb. Work through slowly and take lots of break and give treats throughout so he knows it’s a good thing happening.
Alyssa, the best grooming video i have seen. You are cool and calm. Your attention to detail is exceptional. She is a good sport to behave like she does. My dog always like it when its done. I think they know they are cute. Thanks for sharing.
You Emma is incredibly cooperative! A lot of toy breed dogs are terrified of getting their nails clipped or will not stay in one place without protesting and moving around. What a doll! You both looks like beautiful gals!
Thank you so much for this video. You did a great job.Poms are the best dogs ever. My Lilly sits patiently while I groom her also. Pomeranians have this intuitive intelligence that I love.
She is the sweetest little girl ever! And just beautiful! Nice job, I have 2 little poms and my older guy shakes the entire time I am grooming him. I find it to be extremely stressful. She just lets you do it all. I love her! Great job... ❤️
Hi, your little girl is so SWEET 💕, you did such a great job on her. I also home groom my 2 puppers Pom/Shiz,,,Pom/Coton... they absolutely LOVE the blow dry part😂
I recently adopted a dog that looks a lot like a Pom and this video was super helpful! I will definitely reference your video during my next attempt at a haircut for him! Also your lil baby is such a good girl and you obviously take great care of her.
Finally I found a video that I can connect with in one week I'm going to try this on my own dog I feel very confident after watching your video thank you you do a great job!
OMG, Emma is the cutest, prettiest, calmest dog ever! I'm off to buy a Pom right now!!! Please buy a treat for Emma from my part and tell her it's from me!
Emma is like my Dutchess color and all. I’m about to give her the groom and cut of her life we are in Texas and she needs the spa, cut, luxury deluxe lol! I think you did a phenomenal job! The hair grows and comes back and your her owner Dutchess May get a round low and tight today lol! Thank you for this great video
I love that you didn’t change the natural shape of them! It always makes me sad when Poms are shaved down! My Pom won’t stay still like this but I’m really going to work at having her get used to it. Love this!
Omg Emma!! You are killing me with that shaking lol. You look like my pom Bella 💕💕 I highly recommend you to get a high velocity dryer, you will dry her in half of the time and it will help with the shedding!
Thank you for this very detailed grooming help. I adopted a pom mix that I found in my neighborhood that no one came for. I wanted info on grooming, I ordered a kit and then ordered the curved shears to go with it. I did her feet this evening and am looking forward to getting better at it. Progress not perfection.
I absolutely loved watching this. Like the peep peep pad idea to catch the hair. My pom has lots of hair I will need several peep peep pads! Thank you for the tips on trimming the ears and the bib. Emma is so adorable!
I've seen so many "on edge" barkers. I have a tiny male pom who is quiet as a church mouse unless there is a knock at the door. Then he lets you know a package was delivered etc. Then he's quiet again. I'm going to start grooming him because there are not a lot of groomers in the islands in Alaska. Obviously she is fully trusting in you for her to be so co-operative. Great video!
Your little Pom is so well behaved and you did an amazing job. Our Poms would literally be screaming - and they do - just from the hair dryer. It’s worth a trip to the groomer just to have them bathed and blown dry!
Thank you for a terrific video. Emma looks like my first Pom Reggie. I also groom my large Pom Ozzy and Eskie, Nelly and watch plenty of videos. Your attention to detail and especially the bum area really helps me. Hugs to Emma 🐕💓
Such a cute little dog! I have a white one and groom him myself, I keep his coat a little shorter tho, it grows so fast! Your dog is so mellow, you can tell he really trusts you and I know you love him too!
Good job! So glad you didn't shave her body! I've been grooming professionally for 2 years, and one thing to remember about double coated breeds is that their undercoat is more important than the top layer, as it can become packed to the skin of not properly groomed. I suggest investing in Furminator deshed conditioner, it works WONDERS! Really loosens up any packed undercoat. Poms are my favorite breed to groom! I can't tell you how satisfying it is to really deshed them and give them that teddy bear style ❤️❤️
Alyssa, You are doing such a great job with little Emma. I was trained on grooming poodles so when I groomed my Pomeranians I pretty much followed what I knew, but it sure didn't look as good as what you did. Emma is such a sweetheart. I have a new Pomeranian puppy now and I think he would be as sweet as Emma but the three that I had prior to him would not have been nearly as well behaved in grooming. I enjoyed watching. Thank you for sharing.
Such a well behaved dog. Thanks for sharing your tips !

Excuse typos. I think that shaving looks awful
Tip: if she ever barks when you don't want to, let her bark, and when she stops, give her praise and a treat. I did get this from another source.
do you mean throwing a shoe at the barking dog is not a good idea?
Mineral Tim 79 why would u do that!?

Thank for all the great tips. I have 4 girls and these tips will come in handy.
Just got a male Pom, thanks for the tips! Very helpful
THAT HAS GOT TO BE THE BIGGEST TEXT/MESSAGE I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!!!! btw thx for the info
As a professional groomer, I enjoyed how well you did and how much your adorable dog trusts you.❤ 😊
What a fully cooperative little dog! Mine would be climbing the walls! 😂

Shelley Messier so brush the dog before the bath too?
Yes you can brush your dog before the bath too but if you already do regular brushing every couple of days, I haven’t noticed a difference
Alyssa Smirnov ok 😌👍
Your little lady has amazingly good manners. I can't even get a flea collar on my little guy.
My experience with flea collars is mediocre at best anyway, and that's on short haired dogs! Bravecto on the other hand works great and you don't have to worry about a collar causing mats or anything! Your vet likely sells it, you have to have a prescription for it anyway.

I don’t to
I really want one!
I want one for my birthday
update: i just got a puppy!!! she’s a lab terrier mix, not a pomeranian
Cause they are so cute!!!
She's so calm and relaxed. Such a cute little doggie. Can't wait to adopt one as well.
Emma was soooooooo well behaved. Such a sweet dog. You can tell she's used to being groomed.
Really good video.
What a good girl!!!! She was so patient with you!!! I can't believe how good she is, great job Emma!!!!🥰
I like how informative you are unlike another video I saw. Very helpful. Gonna try and groom my pom since the groomers are closed

You look like my pom Bella 💕💕
I highly recommend you to get a high velocity dryer, you will dry her in half of the time and it will help with the shedding!
Thank you for making this video because soon I will get one dog 🐶 and I learned how to groom my pomeranian so thank you so so much...💕
You say your not a professional groomer but i disagree. Wonderful work, and Emma is such a good girl!
What a good little pom. Calm. Great post.
I’m glad i came across your channel, your very calm & so is beautiful lil Emma 💝 and I’ve been grooming my pommi at home lately!🥰👍🏽
your very graceful and everyone is happily satisfied Your dog is far happier than l see on other mishandling pro groomers sessions.
She is super adorable!!
Great job! I'm learning a lot about grooming . I just got a Pom before Christmas and she's about 5 months old. ♥️
Your Pom is so sweet and adorable💕
You dog is so well behaved and you do a realy great job.
Good job. I have 2 and they need grooming. With everything closed I thought I might try it myself. Wish me luck! Thanks for the confidence!
She's so beautiful and so well behaved which makes her even more beautiful ☺️😊
Looks great to me!
And such a good and patient doggy!

Such a cute little dog! I have a white one and groom him myself, I keep his coat a little shorter tho, it grows
so fast!
Thanks for the tip, Jessie! 💕
Really informative! What a super puppy. You can tell she trusts you. Important!
Your pom is adorable!
She’s adorable
I have two poms that I will attempt to Groom myself - thanks for the video
