- Happy Birthday to Roger Glover who was born on this date in 1945.
"Perfect Strangers" is the title track off of the album by Deep Purple which came out in 1984 and featured Roger Glover on bass.
I'm playing the Bruce Thomas Profile Signature bass available only from The Bass Centre in England.
Man when this album came out I played it on repeat for hours at a time! Awesome tone and fantastic cover!!!
Me too! Thank you very much!
Sometimes the world looks perfect,
Nothing to rearrange.
Sometimes you just get a feeling
Like you need some kind of change.
No matter what the odds are this time,
Nothing's going to stand in my way.
This flame in my heart,
Like a long lost friend
Gives every dark street a light at the end.
Standing tall, on the wings of my dream.
Rise and fall, on the wings of my dream.
The rain and thunder
The wind and haze
I'm bound for better days.
It's my life and my dream,
Nothing's going to stop me now.
(Nothing's going to stop me)
It's my life and my dream,
Nothing's going to stop me now.
It's a shame this song didn't make it on the album.
well thats ear candy...that song is on my list of top 5 all tome favorite songs. I've been to a lot of concerts in my life but Deep Purples Perfect Strangers Tour in the Bay Area is still my #1 favorite..
Awesome! I’m sorry I never got to see the classic lineup, but I’m glad you did!
Another great track - thank you! Roger Glover is an underrated bassist and songwriter.
Thank you, it was my pleasure! Truth!
I still have the record I bought when this came out. This track is meant to be played at max volume so that the organ intro rattles the windows. Love this tune.
Very cool! I hear you!
Awesome playing as always, Troy! You make this sound so big and full with that bass tone.
Thank you Amanda!
Awesome job Troy!! This, and Knockin' At Your Backdoor are killer tracks. Happy Birthday to Roger. Thanks, take care.
Thank you very much!
I love this song! I remember when this album dropped. Back in the day we played this too! Great memories!
Awesome!!!
I love that tone...👍👍
Thank!
Awesome job Troy! This whole album is kick-ass! Hope you and yours are well and have a happy and safe holiday!
Mike
Thanks a lot Mike!
Thanks again Troy. Great job.
It was my pleasure. Thank you.
Meaty!
Great job, great choice!
Thanks Patrick!
Slower tempo leaves space for error but you were solid.
The Bruce Thomas bass is magical and cast spells on me.
Give us "Knockin at your back door"!
Bruce actually joined a FB group for bass players and answered questions and such. Unreal. So cool.
Yeah, it took a while to smooth it out.
It's an awesome bass. My search for the perfect Precision is over.
I did that one a while back. Let me know if you have trouble finding it.
love love love it
Thank you Jean Marie
Classic album. One of my very favorite albums by them. Great cover.
Truth! Thank you Ken.
One of my favorite bass lines. Roger mostly played with a pick and did so on this song. Once again you mastered this.
Cool. Yes, he was definitely a picker. Thank you.
Great cover. Thank you Troy ;-)
Thank you too!
i hit liked before it even started playing, I knew this was going to be bomb
Thanks for the vote of confidence!
Legendary distorted organ intro courtesy of Jon Lord!
Truth!
brilliant tune love it ;)
Thank you very much!
Fantastic as always Troy!!
Thank you very much Dana!
Glover had so many interesting bass lines. Thanks for posting this!
Truth. It was my pleasure. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
Great song. Great playing. Seen them 3 times. Unreal.
Truth. Thanks. We've seen the a couple of times... more recently though, with Steve Morse on guitar.
Excellent choice
Thanks!
Loved this album. And of course primarily this song and Knocking at your backdoor with its locker room humor 😅I already got the bass line in the verse, but now you showed us the rest as well - thanks 🎸👍🎼
Me too! Good luck with it. Yeah, they even had to change some of the lyrics in the liner notes for “Knocking….” They were written as, “…to get into her pantry…”
Ohhhh this is so good 🤘!!
Thank you very much!
Awesome job! What a cool riff at the end and a great album to boot. If you can, check out Rainbow 🌈, "Gates of Babylon" from the Long Live Rock n Roll album. Good stuff by Bob Daisley. Listening to you play is always a pleasure, Troy!!
Thanks a lot Sam!
Just as awesome as this track is the Trilogy of Terror mask. Nice job!
Thanks! That mask was courtesy of Lou and Jamie Prancik of 10/31 Studios - instagram.com/1031studios/
IF YOU DON'T dig Troy's cover of this tune --
*We must remain PERFECT STRANGERS..* 👍👍👍👍👍
Haha!
Oooohhhh….thats music. Duuuuude😊❤ thank you hugely Troy
Thanks a lot!
Haven't hear this song since I was a young man!
I hope you enjoyed it!
What a great sounding bass. I’ve seen you play it a lot but on this tune the sound of the bass really growled at me (in a nice way)
I'm not a "P" guy, but I really do love this bass. It all depends on the song as to how I'm going to sound playing over top of it. Some songs just sound better than others.
@@TJH3113Thanks for the response. I’m not a P guy either but sometimes, actually most of the time they sound great. The neck is just a little too wide for me. Be well.
I so love how crisp and clean your bass sounds,. And your always dead on point,.. ❤️
Thanks Cindy.
A**es have been kicked!
I loved playing Nobody’s Home off this album.
That's a great one too!
I played this so much, good times
Awesome!
💯💯💯 THE MAN💯💯💯 I knew you'd do this one Troy,, expertly done and the after session is excellent,, hangin with the band after the show kinda thing.... And PERFECT for people trying to learn how to play by ear...
Haha... Thank you very much!
Great stuff Troy!
Thank you very much!
Top stuff as always Troy.
Thanks you very much!
Exxellent.,.Love the Hammond pluged into a Marshal sound as well
Thank you!
What a great comeback album.
One of the greatest!
That pre chorus gave me fits when I was trying to learn that song. I figured close was good enough. lol
That's what I did, back in the day.
Sounds amazing brother! Keep up the great work!! 🎸
Thanks so much!!!
Damn that sounds good
Thanks again Cindy!
Bello.👑👑👑👑👑👑
Thank you! ❤️
Muito bom!! Show
Muito obrigado!
I love that song, more Deep Purple
Awesome!
Muito Bom ! Great!
Thank you!!
Great job as always, Sir! Have wonderful Holidays!
Thanks, you too!
Oh wow I totally forgot how much I loved thsi song. I think I played the cassette (for those of us who remember cassettes lol) until it broke lol. I think cassettes might be to the younger generation what 8 tracks are for us. Any way sounds great and loving that slow groove. I might have to learn this one myself 😃👍💚 I can almost hear this with Dio's voice. Love him as well.
It's a classic, isn't it? I had to look it up, but it looks like this came out just as CD's were starting to become popular, so I'm sure that both were available. Thank you and I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Thanks once again Troy.
Thank you kindly.
When i saw the update for this I thought for a split second, "why is Troy covering a Bronson Pinchot sitcom??" LOLOL Amazing DP cover on a gorgeous bass!
The name rings a bell, but I don't believe I've ever seen the show. Thanks!
Great cover, you've got a great touch man! that bass sounds massive!
What equipment are you using for recording?
Thanks... it's a great bass. I use GarageBand to generate my signal and a SansAmp Para-Driver for my EQ on this one.
Amb un parell d'ous, sí senyor!
És clar.
Hello my friend!
Another fantastic cover. I've decided to comment for the first time, which is not something I usually do.
Been watching your video for a few years now, your playing is top level and since we share a similar taste in music I've learned quite a few new songs from you that I came to cherish. My fav bands are Rush (kinda hard to argue they aren't the GOAT isn't it), Thin Lizzy, Camel, Wishbone Ash, Kansas, Yes, Boston and so on.
I am also writing 'cause I have a couple of suggestions of basslines that kinda blow my mind.
- Wishbone ash - Sometime world
- Eloy - Mutiny
Just in case you like them, no need to do them though.
Anyhow your channel brings great value to me, thank you! I do also apologize for being a bit off topic.
Cheers!
Hello Reggie and thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to comment and leave some suggestions. I will certainly check them out, as I always do. I'm glad you find some value in my channel and I don't think there's anything that I'd consider to be "off-topic" here. If you have a question or a statement to make, please feel free to ask/state away. Thanks again and take care!
Nice bass.
Thanks, it’s one of my favorites.
Ваши каверы на Абба сумасшедшие!Спасибо,бро!
Большое спасибо! Я рад, что они тебе нравятся.
🤟
🙏
awesome job! I've always loved this song. It's weird, every time I hum or sing this tune I always end up switching to cinnamon girl by Neil Young. There's something about the verses that are similar (to me at least)
Thank you! I can see that happening.
Not sure if it's worth the mucking around, but if any of your videos had tabs included, they'd be amazing. Your cover choices and diversity of instruments are second to none, I just wish it was easier to figure out how to learn these great songs that you pick!
I play by ear and memory, and don't really understand tab. I've explored the idea of working with someone else to handle the transcription end of things but haven't gotten very far with it. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
..smoke on the water will always be Deep Purples number 1....but i put Perfect Strangers and Knocking at your Backdoor..right up there as well...thanks Troy.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
From all your basses this P Bass is my favorite, KILLER FAT FUNKY TONE!... Could you please share the specs on this gem!... thanks!
I'm not a Precision guy, never have been, but I really do love this bass. Search "Bruce Thomas Profile Signature Bass". I haven't done anything to it, this is how it came out of the box.
Hi from Moscow.Good job.Beautiful bass timbre. Are the strings new?
Hello and thank you! The strings were not brand new, but I rarely ever let them got old. When they start getting "clanky" I change them.
Understood, thanks.I wish you new successes!@@TJH3113
Check out Not Responsible from the same album. The bass on that one is smoking hot
Yeah, that's a good one!
Whats brand of your bass? Profile whats? its a american bass or ...? Its not a Perfect Strangers but its a Perfects Cover! 🤘

Thanks!
Hello Troy. Hello everyone else too. Has anybody ever heard of using a "compressor" or a "limiter" effects pedal to get rid of clicks and clacks from strings striking the frets when playing faster aggressive bass lines? Thanks for any advice you can give.
I am not terribly tech savvy, but I do not believe a compressor or limiter would help with that. The only way to get rid of clicks, and clacks would be to eliminate the clicks and clicks. You can do this by adjusting the neck and raising the action. Before doing that, try toning the treble down a bit because high-end will accentuate any string noise and fret buzz. As you may have noticed, those clicks and clicks are part of my sound, but I can understand where you may not want that for yourself.
@@TJH3113 thank you Troy.
I mean how many great songs has Roger Glover played on? Great cover there Troy, you are now very much required to cover "The Battle Rages On"...
...reminds me i need new Machine Heads on my bass (no pun intended).
Plenty! Thank you. I'll check it out... thanks for the suggestion.
@@TJH3113 Thank you for the musical suggestions over the years.
Good job Troy! Great choice but I play it a lot different and a lot worse lol!
Thank you! Haha... don't be too hard on yourself.
Thank you Troy I became aware and a fan of purple in the early 80s but not familiar with perfect strangers until Dream Theater covered it!👍
Have not heard this song in a long time.
Funny thing is I had my playback speed set to 1.25x speed, and was over a minute into it before I realized it was playing fast.
Sad thing is, I think it sounds better at the 1.25x speed. Seems way to slow at normal speed.
I'll have to try that out.
Hi Troy 😁
Wow! Christmas has come early! Always nice to hear from you, Valerie. Hope you are well.
Haha- hope you and Lynn are doing well! Mike and I watch/enjoy your videos all the time on the big tv. @@TJH3113
I thought this was going to be the 80s tv theme song
Maybe do that one next
Haha... you're not the only one.!!
Сколько у баc-гитар,сэр?;)
Мне было 32, но сейчас осталось 17. Моя цель - спуститься примерно до 8.
Troy,
Don’t know if you know of Cliff Burton of Metallica (RIP)
But he was one of the true pioneers of metal/prog bass.
Check out the song “Creeping Death” especially the isolated bass track.
Really eye opening look into his approach to writing, and especially playing within the framework of the song, but not tied down to simply slaving the guitar lines.
Great stuff.🤘🏻
I never got into Metallica. Couldn't get past the singer's voice and the drummer's personality.
@@TJH3113 some top tier bass playing though
franchise
Thank you.
...accidentally hit the dislike button in my rush to like this one troy ha ;>
No worries!
