    As a German i feel like i have to say this:
    The German National Anthem is actually based on a poem written in the 19th Century. It was first adopted as the national anthem in 1922, before the nazis overtook (1930).
    After WW2 (1945) they simply ditched the first verse because (in retrospect to the whole nazi thing) it could be misinterpreted as having social darwnistic overtones but in reality is not more patriotic than any other national anthem.
    In conclusion you probably don't actually hate the german national anthem from 1941

    • @Shadezman76
      @Shadezman76 3 роки тому +2

      Thank you for educating us about this. I'm a big fan of WWII history and did not know this. I see your point about it not being something we should find abhorrent because it actually was created well before the third reich. The National Anthem was created during The Holy Roman Empire or its successor The German Empire during the 1800s

    • @Shadezman76
      @Shadezman76 3 роки тому +1

      @Auxiliary Stream Services Tyranny existed throughout history. If that's your point, understood. It wasn't until the 20th century when civilization realized this was wrong and only freedom can endure.

    • @Shadezman76
      @Shadezman76 3 роки тому +5

      @Auxiliary Stream Services actually global communism would have been the only thing the world would know today had the allies let Hitler continue on his path to global domination. If Germany's defeat in WWII lead to communism then you obviously are drinking the koolaid from some BS fountain. I can name a handful of dictators that had risen to power during the same period as Hitler's rise, some of which became allies to Germany during the war. Point is communism was already established. Capitalism is freedom my friend. I don't have to rely on the government for my next meal, next car, next anything. I work hard and I buy them. That would never be possible had the Nazi won the war. If you think for one second that Hitler and his Nazi regime would have stopped at the western shores of Europe after conquering the entire continent you are not a realist and I'll give you the last word, but I won't be responding because it's not worth my time to carry on with a close-minded thinker

    • @elonmush4793
      @elonmush4793 3 роки тому +3

      To get this back on topic: In Nazi Germany the anthem started with the first stanza ("Deutschland, Deutschland über alles" / "Germany above all"). To distance itself from the Nazis' territorial claims and ideology, nowadays the Republic of Germany only uses the third stanza as its anthem: "Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit" ("unity and justice and freedom"), which also kinda is Unified Germany's national motto.
      It's always super awkward when foreign singers start with the wrong line "Deutschland Deutschland über alles". It even happened at official ceremonies.

I think the thing that really pushed me over into Hatesville with them was that most of their songs are about getting drunk and screwing, and every single time they win any award, they get up on stage and say, "First of all, we'd like to thank our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ." "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion is my wife's single-most hated song. It's so bad that if there's even a cover of it, or a Muzak cover, parody, or even the opening flute bit she will freak out and leave the room. Like... blinding white-hot rage. She's never even watched Titanic because she can't stand it.
    For me... there's a particular disco song that has a /constant/ quarter-note clap... throughout the entire goddamned song. I can't remember the title, artist, or even any of the lyrics. Just that it had a bog-standard C-major key center [I think] and had that... incessant clapping. Even in the bridge/breakdown.
    Neither of us can stand Five Finger Donkey Punch.

    Lucky that my breasts are small
    And you don't confuse them with mountains
    Lucky I inherited firm legs
    To run if one day needed
    And these two eyes that tell me
    They must cry when you leave"
    The lyrics are still a bit odd as it loses some meaning in translation. They're a lot more endearing in Spanish.

    I've heard other Beatles fans say that about "Wild Honey Pie." I think maybe they're not seeing it in context of the full album. All Beatles albums, at least from Rubber Soul on, are stand-alone works that should be experienced as such. Listening to the album from beginning to end, all those cool little "throwaway" bits make more sense and add to the experience. Personally, I dig "Wild Honey Pie" even as an individual song. That plucking guitar, that beat, the whole weird vibe. But in the context of the album, it's perfect. As is that weird little thing right before "Cry Baby Cry," that spooky "Can you take me back" thing. I even dig "Revolution 9." I mean, come on...yeah, if you're making someone new to their stuff a playlist, probably not gonna put "Revolution 9" on there, haha, but it's a cathartic audio ride. The only stinker, or the closest thing to a stinker, is "Good Night." But they placed it at the end, so you can almost look at it as ending-credits music, or like a stretch-out cool-down after the insanity of "Revolution 9."
    The White Album is a work of art. It's an ALBUM, from the days when that still meant something. You don't judge one elbow or one tree in a painting, do you? When you have time to give it the attention it deserves, sit down, put on headphones, and experience the White Album from beginning to end. It is a wild-ass ride. Honestly, I can only handle it once or twice a year at most. It's like rereading The Catcher In The Rye or Steppenwolf to me. I know my brain is going to get spun and I'm going to be in a different frame of mind for at least the next few days.

Not to mention they are always, 100% of the time, sung by a young boy or girl with horrendous pop-style vowel sounds, regardless of whether or not the original song was sung in that style. The Beatles were really inspired by music concrete and electro-acoustic music and even had electro-acoustic pioneer Karlheinz Stockhausen as one of the imagined audience members on the cover of Sgt. Pepper. There are some very cool composers who did some very interesting things in that genre worth checking out even it it doesn't fit with most peoples idea of the definition of music. And if you don't like Number 9 then definitely do not look up Stockhausen and something like Gesang der Jünglinge!

You've already been playing for an hour or two, but it doesn't even start til boot scoot, then you play another hour (all the usual BS standard dance tunes) and you finish with Friends in Low Places, and I've never more wished to be playing behind that cage they show in the Blues Brothers movie in my life. Suddenly every drunk @$$hole in the place is your best friend and getting onstage (there is zero security at these things) and putting their arm over your shoulder while you're trying to play and singing all out of tune into your microphone and in writing this I'm realizing why there's so much alcoholism and undiagnosed ptsd in the musical community...... No-one adores the Beatles more than I do, but they managed to churn out a lot of bilge in their run. But they did compensate with those other masterpieces

    Let me offer a “defense” of Wild Honey Pie. It’s so deranged, it’s a weird little interlude. Probably wouldn’t make it onto any other beatle album, but the white album is a kitchen sink album, so it it went in there.
    Also, Birdland is probably the only Weather Report song I like. Ah well.

      I think the worst Beatles song are What A Shame Mary Jane Had A Pain At The Party and If You've Got Trouble. In comparison to them Wild Honey Pie is a masterpiece and even sounds kind of interesting in its newly remastered version.

      @@songfulmusicofsongs The "Mary Jane" song is definitely a piece of garbage, which is why it never appeared in any form on an authorized Beatles release until they released the floodgates for the Anthology. I can make it through "If You've Got Trouble", though; I think it's Ringo's exasperation before the solo - "Aw, rock on, anybody!".

    I cannot allow myself to hate any songs since I became a musician. I know how much time and hard work it takes to put something together, so I have to at least be appreciative of the effort. I do have songs I still dislike ...

    Around the world story: I was watching/listening to a video by Mary Spender from the UK in the background while I was working (from home). Then I hear someone (you) say the word Winnipeg, and I was like...no...he didn't say Winnipeg... I had to listen back a number of times, then googled your name, and here you are! Your take on Manitoba socials is spot on!! Subscribed!

    The one song I can’t stand is Smoke On The Water. Now before y’all hate me yes the song is great, yes the intro riff is iconic but for the love of gosh it’s not the easiest guitar riff and It’s way to over played

      @Mk. 5 it's not even that great, technically speaking. You can teach it to someone who has never touched a guitar in their life in a couple of minutes, but I doubt the same could be said for something like Highway Superstar or Hush

    Aww, I remember back in the 70s when Man Tran first came out it was a refreshing change to hear jazz being popularised. You can't belieive how dark the days of Cleo Lane and Johnny Dankworth were back in sixties Britain.

    Your story about the Toronto Maple leafs goal song is very funny to me because the same exact thing happened to me with Chelsea Dagger which is the Chicago Blackhawks song, as I'm sure you know. Up until the Seattle kraken actually became a thing over here in Seattle, I used to be a Nashville predators fan, a huge one.
    I used to hang out with my dad and listen to Chelsea Dagger all the time while doing stuff around the house like repairing a car or doing yard work or whatever needed to be done.
    Then I became a preds fan.
    I can't stand Chelsea Dagger anymore. Which really sucks because those are good memories of mine

    I guess nothing else mattered to him.
    And yea, Metallica became McTallica for me when the black album came out.
    Also: She was a working girl
    North of England way
    Now she's hit the big time
    In the USA
    And if she could only hear me
    This is what I'd say
    Honey pie you are making me crazy
    I'm in love but I'm lazy
    So won't you please come home
    Oh honey pie my position is tragic
    Come and show me the magic
    Of your Hollywood song
    You became a legend of the silver screen
    And now the thought of meeting you
    Makes me weak in the knee
    Oh honey pie you are driving me frantic
    Sail across the Atlantic
    To be where you belong
    Honey pie come back to me, oh
    Yeah
    I like it like that, oh ah
    I like this kind of hot kind of music
    Hot kind of music
    Play it to me, play it to me, honey, the blues
    Will the wind that blew her boat
    Across the sea
    Kindly send her sailing back to me
    Honey pie you are making me crazy
    I'm in love but I'm lazy
    So won't you please come home
    Come, come back to me, honey pie
