    Any local lads that fish Windermere know how hard it can be , you have to put days and days in different swims and learn which fish best at what time of year. Any swim can produce a 20 . That stretch of lake gets fished a lot now so maybe harder to get a 20 from. Good vid 👍

    Back when I used to fish for Pike with hard tackle and bait, we used to use a wire leader with a large 2/0 hook on each end and then fish a smell on it under a bobber. It was fun for awhile but they were not hard to catch. Eventually I put the hard tackle and bait away and now I fish them in shallow water with deer hair Frogs and Mice. The explosion is very worthy of time spent!

    Fished a big res as a young lad in lancs ,,, only once in a while you would catch loads if pike in a session usually after days of silver fishing mabe we attracted so many silvers over the days that it drew lots if pike in ,,, .

      Not sure about the regulations on Windermere but a lot of lakes in the Lake District are sea baits only. Always wonder how Lamphrey are categorised, must be caught in an estuary coming into a river and maybe eels also? Never fancied having the discussion if i was checked so i stick to tradtional sea baits. Nice video 👍

    • @fishingandherping7681
      @fishingandherping7681  Рік тому

      @@MrDanp78 Yeah I feel the same, I stick with smelt which is my favourite sea bait just to be safe but I fish a water down in wales which is sea baits only and they don't allow lamprey or eels. I had thought about fishing eels on windermere tbh because then I'd get less bothered by eels taking the baits hopefully

    Only just managed to get round to watching this and didn’t know you’d posted!! What a superb video and class effort I have to admit hats off and that’s such a class spot! RE Mr Burton…..think the days of big Windermere pike are somewhere behind us! They’re definitely still in there but not in the numbers - probably down to the reduced number of shoal fish in the lake as a whole!
    Regardless great video !!

    Nice vid! I am looking forward to a couple of days on the bank there this winter. I might try using a bait boat this time to get at least one deadbait in very deep water and also to place some chopped mackerel around the bait, maybe with added scent. The dream would be a 20lb+! I had two good sessions there last year with one double and also a huge Ferox Trout which engulfed a whole mackerel, which was a surprise! I also had a huge pike follow my bait in. I only noticed it when I lifted my bait out of the water and it's jaws opened. It is hard to tell but it looked massive, at least 15-20lbs. I was shaking!

    • @fishingandherping7681
      @fishingandherping7681  Рік тому

      Wow those are the stories which keep up going back mate :) sounds great, also there's spots on windermere you can fish where a cast gets your bait into atleast 30ft of water so I'd say you probably wouldn't need a bait boat :)

    Blast from the past that swim I've fished off the jetty beside you back in the early 2000s when I lived across in England.
    Unfortunately Eels can be a pain in the arse you'll find soft baits like sardines will have a screamer of a run but then when you get the bait back there will be a perfect semi circle nipped out of the belly.
    Eels will annoy you fishing at night buddy even popped up baits and lives get attention from Eels.
