I’m heading to Australia for my 4th time next month and want to do some herping. Like you, I don’t pick them up or handle them, I have a good camera and lens and I just like to photograph. Anyway, how fast are you driving at night and at what time are you out looking?
Great vid 👌🏻 Where you're fishing ( between the lighthouse) is there sand , or mixed ground ? Thx
Thanks mate! yeah just to the right of the lighthouse there, looking straight at puffin island, not much sand there mate its very snaggy hence the float fishing, we did try and bottom fish there but it was as snaggy as expected
lovely stuff. which park is this? ill be in bangkok tonight and want to do some herping this week.
any maker el here ?
Not when I was fishing mate but at the right time it'd be possible to pick a few up casting feathers
Nice to see your video again.
Thanks mate! :)
I Wish this was longer
Ah thanks mate, if I'd found more it would be haha
Pretty pointless fishing that far up the Eden for coarse fish, theyre mostly found in the lower reaches, Warwich Hall, Carlisle etc. Theres no roach, no perch, either.
On a diving trip in the north of Luzon in the P.I I regularly saw children draping Kraits around their neck. No thanks.
Lads what rod do ya recommend im gonna be fishing of me boat thanks in advance
Well done looking 2 get tope fishing this year never done it before
Great video! How did you find herping there? Could it be done without experience of the area? Are the trails good to follow etc. Thanks!
I’m goin July 4th for a family trip. Thanks for the heads up on the reptiles.
No worries mate hope you get onto some good stuff :)
Watched your video this morning before setting off on my first attempt at catching a sturgeon,, first and only fish of the day, and I caught it twice, and there’s only 2 in the pond weighed in at 18lb!
Wow sounds like a good session mate, you were definitely doing something right, lovely fish at 18lb :)
I thought that magnetic island is a metal island with grey rocks or something, but this is a true tropical island after all. Nice pythons, echidnas and the death adder. A true Australian ecosystem. Also, I am pretty sure that no frog can eat an adult death adder. They may attempt, but doesn’t mean that they can succeed.
Yeah apparently it was named because old timey sailors used to think it was throwing off their compasses but not sure theres any truth to that, Thanks very much for watching! and yeah I might've been thinking a bit ambitiously there haha
I will be staying in Donji Seget in July for a week, and top of my list to spot is the European Glass Lizard Pseudopus Apodus, preferably a live one. I was hoping to go to north Portugal this summer to visit the Peneda Gerês national park and spot the Timon lepidus and the Western Montpellier Snake. Unfortunately flights to Oporto are now rather expensive. So settled for Croatia instead.
Croatia will still be good hopefully mate, have a good trip :)
interesting and instructive, but it seems to me that it would be good if you wrote next to the name of the snake whether it is venomous or harmless
Ah thankyou, yes I'll make sure to do that next video :)
Interesting batch of snakes, thanks mate.
My pleasure mate, thanks for watching :)
That 90lb'er at the end was a fantastic fish.. Well done m8..!! ..I bet you slept well THAT night, I'd be knackard..!! Ha ha
Cheers mate! Yeah those things beat you up 😂
Your Children's python appears to be a spotted python (Antaresia maculosa), but I could be wrong. Nice footage and some great finds!
Thankyou! :) Yeah with regards to the Antaresia it was a specimen from just South of Hughenden where all records seem to now be considered childreni but I don't know for sure how they can be distinguished morphologically apart from variable patterning characteristics, so I went with children's, but I also could be wrong, thanks for watching :)
@@fishingandherping7681 yeah, that area is right on the border. Maybe a range extension. Of course you saw the animal in person, but it looks an awful lot like a Mac.
Your childreni is A. maculosa. The dead whipsnake is a Crack- dwelling Whip D. Rimicola.
Nice video mate
Thanks mate :)
Need more vids in Aus mate
Ah there's plenty more on the way mate :) should have a brigalow vid goin live at 7 tonight
@@fishingandherping7681 mate can’t wait keep them coming
@@user-py1xr2qv1s Thanks mate, will do, appreciate you watching :)
Hi, Which National Park was this at? Love the video. Would you like to do some beginner herping tips video? I would love that
great video mate. where abouts is this fishing spot located in windmere and is it free?
Thanks mate, I believe there is a permit to pay to the windermere angling assosciation, I didn't pay it because I've registered my boat to fish on windermere which i assume covers it, hope that helps :)
Just discovered your videos dude :) they are epic !
Thanks mate! Appreciate you watching :)
Fantastic ! with all the other boats i'm guessing you are in a boat fishing club, can i ask which one and where you launch from ?. Cheers
Thanks mate, yeah this is the fylde boat angling club, launches from opposite red bank road area, just up from norbreck :)
What roads were you herping on
Not sure exactly what the roads called mate but its the main roads running in and out of winton :)
Love the guide's lacoste approach. Fake corn, never seen before. Good vid.
Thanks mate! :)
The centipede was scolopendra subspinipes
Thanks!
@fishingandherping7681 no worries at all, I've just discovered your channel and been making my way through your uploads I just got back from langkawi where I was out looking for herps and bugs.
@@tonywebb8769 Ah sweet thanks for watching the videos mate I appreciate it, how did you get on over there? :)
@@fishingandherping7681 5ft Naja kaouthia, 12ft King, some mangrove pit viper, very dry at the moment there hottest it's been in 10yrs but the best time to find a king tho
@@tonywebb8769 Wow! Jealous of the king mate thats awesome! never seen one in the wild, great stuff
Another great video Luke, fantastic pace to this one
Thanks mate! appreciate that cheers for watching :)
Even the caudal luring is convergent. Remarkable how far that process can go, but possibly some pleiotropy is involved.
Good point mate I should have mentioned that in the voiceover but oh well
Neat finds!
Thankyou! :)
It's amazing and understandable that it was called an Adder. You are correct natural selective pressure of similar niche animals causes them to look like one another even though genetically they are completely unrelated (no vipers in AussieLand.) Similar to the Old world and New World "Vine Snakes."
Usually, island populations of snakes depending on the amount of time disconnected from the originating species, really become a unique sub-species. Usually with more potent venom due to lack of prey and dwarfism or gigantism. Like your Red Bellied Black Snakes that inhabit islands.
Sixth most toxic venom but probably one of the fastest if not the fastest strike in the entire world. So fast in fact many bitten never saw it bite or even believed they were bitten. Fortunately, they rarely bite humans.
Love the Aussie's naming conventions for animals. "Hey mate what's say we name the baby Echidnas - puggles?" friend "G-job mate! Puggles it is!" Really should be renamed to "Tribbles."
Thank you 🙏 ❤
My pleasure, thanks for watching :)
Nice black-headed pythons and monitor. It is difficult to make a nice recording of a monitor. I didn’t know that brown tree snakes are so common in Australia. Now it is easy to imagine them as an invasive species on a small island. Also why you didn’t handle anything on camera? You aren’t getting a real feeling for herps if you don’t handle them, and in this respect they are better than birds or mammals. You could well measure the python and feel her belly just by holding her for a few minutes.
Thanks mate, to be honest I do prefer to minimize handling though just to keep reduce disturbance as much as I can especially considering I photograph them for a while, and also to reduce the chance of other people handling snakes as a result of my videos and then ending up possibly misidentifying snakes or getting bitten themselves, causing harm to the snake etc.
Great finds of the Black Headed Pythons and monitors! I probably would have kept a couple of the Boigas to feed the rarer critters.
Thanks mate, those Boiga are quite common but they don't need my help to end up becoming prey to something out there haha
Is this barmouth mate 😊
No mate it's up in the straits, sorry I missed this comment for awhile
The habu you found is super common to find in Taiwan, It can even find more than 10 in a night :)
Wow yeah I was really surprised at the abundance with which they can be found, 10 in a night is awesome!
Those dragons are extremely dangerous and are known to follow groups and even stalk females in the tourist groups which are having their "time of the month". Very dangerous place.
1:13 I don't often say this about turtles, but that one is beautiful! Very healthy looking.
Oh yeah beautiful specimens, really didn't have time to savour the quality of the reef dives over there.
the tokay is definitely very happy about that free meals😂
Yeah definitely think I helped him out there haha
nice vid man, i might go the month and hopefully i could turn one blue insularis as well
Hope so mate, thanks for watching and good luck! :)
You'd catch more/bigger fish spinning in the right places ,
Appreciate the advice mate but I'm not sure I'd agree with you for the deep marks in winter but I'd try anything at this point haha
do you have a close-up shot of the monitor lizard especially the neck area, probably might not be a asian water monitor but other monitor species .
Asian water monitor (Varanus salvator) is the only species of monitor found on Bali, so it can only be that :)
You found most of the species there. I expected the place to be dry with a few animals, but I was proven wrong. Nice chameleons, viperine water snakes, ladder snake, ocellated lizard and everything else. Portugal is quite similar to Greece. The only thing missing were a few more original sound recordings, for example the frogs calling. Then I don’t use voice over in my videos and I find it strange.
Thanks mate we had a good trip :)
Interesting. Thanks.
My pleasure mate thanks for watching :)
