Hey Seth. I’m surprised you didn’t mention (or maybe not aware?) that BOA is a CO company! Pretty cool. Hope to see it on other trail shoes soon
Those shoes have gaiters built in and quick lacing and durability. They are very promising in my book. My 3-years old pair of Cyclon model of la Sportiva is still going strong. After 3 years! That hard sole is very useful and comfortable over sharp rocks. Dolomites mountains in the Alps between Italy and Austria is the battleground for these. I’m biting the bullet soon 😅
Frixon white on this model not red. The Jackal 2 lace version will have the red compound.
Build quality is fantastic on la sportiva.
Thatnks Seth, love the reviews. As a Speedland owner with Boa and using them on my cycling shoes for years I would like to say they have a few issues. When things get super technical Boa placed on the side of the foot tends to break off a lot (the speedland HSV has a Boa that releases from the foot when it strikes a rock). It is really frustrating and in my first run 40 something km run in the mountains they blew off four times. If they do not have that function they can release/open and are known to break. Boa is a great company with awesome support and I love the function but they are not made for us running or riding in the New Zealand/Tasmanian backcountry hiking trails (small use case scenario there I guess).
Keep up the reviews, you have some of the best reviews in the game!
I got familiar with BOA lacing back in the days of my road bicycling time set with my road shoes - great system as long as the cords don't get cut off.
Please do keep mentioning narrow fits for us ppl with narrow needs :) ❤

The BOA system has become prominent in cycling shoes for many years now too. Every rider on the pro level is wearing them as well as most experienced riders willing to drop a little more $. Happy running & cycling!
I know with my shoes I spend time adjusting the laces to get them tighter or loser in certain spots. Can you make those adjustments with the boa?
The one and only time I had the Boa system was on a lightweight road racing shoe, the New Balance 1500t T2.
And wow, what a shoe and what a lockdown.
So, so comfortable and such a perfect lockdown every time.
It's a shame that it's not used more often on road shoes.
It doesn't make any noticeable difference in weight when compared to laces.
I used to be a big fan of the under armour speed tires with boa and the CH1 Machina Off Road with boa as well. Overall, I really just prefer normal laces though. But I may try these, they look great!
Would you guys recommend these for thru-hikers?

Altra did the Mont Blanc last year with the boa! Beautiful shoe but to slim for my feet. Hope the make one in the original fit and I will for sure buy one
Hey guys, I'm looking for a little bit of advice on my next pair of running shoes 😀, I'm 15, 6 ft 4 and I only have one pair of running shoes at a time. I mostly do track sessions and 5 to 10K tempo runs. But I'm now doing a half marathon a month as I'm fundraising. So I think I'm looking for something that I can push the pace in but is also going to help me keep going on longer runs. Thank you for another great vlog. Seth
Hey Seth. Is there any reason you stopped doing half and quarter points for the different scores? I notice that you used to have shoes score like 7.5 or 8.25 in different categories, but now they're all whole numbers. I think it really helped to give a bit more nuance to your scores, especially when everything seems to score between 6 and 9 nowadays.
I love the convenience of BOA but concerned durability. Could it survive a typical rock impact?
Whats the fit like compered to the Cyclone?

Love this review! Been waiting for this shoe. Running in super cold temps like below 20F is new to me. Can you do a video on how you keeps your hands warm? I'm okay to keep my body warm, but my hands are just having piercing pain.
Buffalo do some excellent running mittens which provide plenty of protection.
I typically do glove liners down to the low 20s (F). Running or cross country ski mittens down to single digits. If I need downhill ski gloves or mittens, I don't go out.
I highly recommend the Black Diamond Stance Mitts (not gloves). I have been running in them in Canada at -27 Celsius degrees with no problem.

QOD: I wish I had video of the very first time I held my daughter’s at their moment of birth. I have vivid memory of the moment, but to see it from an outside perspective would be the icing on the cake.

QD: I would love to have a video clip of me and my grandpa sneaking out of the house to eat some tacos only to have to go home and eat the dinner that my grandma made for us. I would love to look at our faces now. Grandpa has been gone for a long time and I still miss him.
Anyone have their BOA system break?
Price is that high because it’s not cheap to use BOA so you have to up charge if you are going to use them. Nothing LA Sportiva can do unless they use some generic ratchet system
