Today I'm talking about how to loosen up in watercolor painting.

Best painting teacher on UA-cam! You’re really helping this old guy get back into painting after many years of inactivity.
Matthew, all great points to remember! If you want photorealism, just take a nice picture. To me it's the artist's interpretation of a scene that makes it attractive, and "art." A focal point makes sense because when you look at a scene your eyes and brain do not see all the details of the periphery. Artists who go further in knowing exactly where to put a few details (or the suggestion thereof) really nail it. Zbukvic is so good at that!
These are kind reminders every watercolour artist needs to remember, not just beginners. Thanks!
I really like how you break the process into simple steps. Thank you so much!

Very good video, Matt. Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
Excellent!
Thanks so much for this information. I will practise this. I am certainly over attentive to detail.
Spot on!
Thank you, Matt! I now can see that I lost my looseness and freshness at the last step of my painting!
Excellent.
That part about how we paint things we know. Painting what we know, not what we actually see. My high school art teacher had a very good example of this, a drawing one of his own kids made, of a church. It was a very simple drawing of a tall, pointy tower, it basically looked like the letter A. And it was filled randomly by h-like symbols, that apparently symbolized all the pews, seen from the side. And lots of randomly placed six-pane windows. It definitely gave the impression of a church. Even if it didn't really look like one.
Thank you!
