Thanks, Matthew. Wonderful tutorial on lights and darks, etc. I really enjoyed the way you put it together especially the commentary side by side with the painting process. It was very effective!

I am a beginner. I find your approach very motivating. However, one point bothers me a lot. If I let the lightest wash dry before I start the midtone wash, then how can I create the gradual transitions like those on a round surface? Possibly this is a silly question, but I cannot find an answer to this, and it is bothering me so much!

Hopefully Matthew will respond in time. But you can still paint over the first wash with clear water, in those selected areas, then drop in your 2nd wash color, so it has blurred sides to simulate roundness.

Hello Matthew, I enjoy your lessons. This lesson is especially helpful "Light side shadow side". I would be helpful to see the picture at the same time. Are you painting wet into wet the entire painting?

Great advice!! I have always wanted to paint an harbor with lots of boats but I have totally felt intimidated. I want all the white boats but there is soooo much detail. Any recommendations on how to approach lots of white boats and blue water to get the idea across by implying?

Great lesson Matthew..as someone else asked it would be good to see photo as you paint.. I didn't know about wetting paper both sides..new to me!! What weight do you use to avoid paper warping without you stretching!!? Thanks ❤ from Canada 🍁.

Great demo! I'm interested in knowing how often do you paint these days? Also, when you were starting out, did you paint everyday? Did you need breaks in between paintings? I feel better prepared mentally if I paint every other day... or every third day. I find that watercolor painting requires a very high concentration level. I'm a fan and have been keenly watching your videos since I switched to watercolors 4 months ago.
