    The name of the organization I moved to Namibia with as a teacher is WorldTeach: www.worldteach.org . If you decide to volunteer/teach in any country with them don't forget to tell them Kaylan in Namibia sent you so that I can make a referral commission, please and thank you! lol

    That singing was beautiful. I think though that if I heard it when I was away from home for the first time it would make me cry. It kind of tugs at my heartstrings on some level. I'm glad you'r sharing this older footage.

    My dear Sister, I happened upon your channel while researching African videos. I must say, I've spent the last 24 hrs watching your past videos. You are so inspiring and educating. I have been to the continent twice to visit, and I must say, I love all that Africa has to offer. As a born Jamaican, it is one of the the greatest privilege to travel to the Mother Land. There are times I want to do so much more, i often dreamed of permanently moving to an African village and connect with my ancestors. God bless you for the wonderful way you connected, and for sharing your experiences. I know you will reach many young people and I hope they too will make the journey.

    I can see why you fell in love with the kids. You seemed so happy and fulfilled. In your more recent videos you appear to be a little frustrated or discontent with some of the every day things that occur there. I appreciate your transparency and honesty always. I got my driver's license at 26. I'm originally from Los Angeles and I didn't need it so I got it when I entered the military.

    As a Namibian the whole comment about car accidents is on point, I'm not sure if you have been on the road much these days but it's gotten worse people have way faster cars and drive even worse. It's so sad and many lives are lost every year, at this point our population has no chance of growing past 2mill.

    By the way, I am a Namibian, many of us don't really bothered by electricity outage because we came from humble beginings, some grew up in the village where there is no power at all, those who grew up in town has one time if not many times visted the village or even a farm for holidays where there was never electricity. So you know how to live without. Actually we are used to it!!! LENCE WILL follow the suit.

    The privacy thing is not bad thing. It shows you that the people are harmonious which is good they greet you which is good. Also they live together as a big community. If you live in ant Caribbean island it's the same most Caribbean islands population are about 2-3 million so seeing someone you know is also common. You'll adjust after a while. Love to see the vidz though.

    When you first moved to the continent how did you find your first teaching opportunity?

    • @AfroAmericaninAfrica
      @AfroAmericaninAfrica  6 років тому +5

      I googled phrases like "ways to move to Africa" and found that volunteer teaching abroad was one route. So then I googled phrases like, "teach abroad Africa" and found WorldTeach (if you volunteer with Worldteach pls. tell them Kaylan in Namibia sent you I can make a commission! lol :)).
      So, WorldTeach is a program that at the time offered year-long teaching placements in Namibia, Tanzania, and Rwanda and I chose Namibia. I talk about why I chose Namibia in this video: ua-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=mA3-XO-eHwo
      The other option for me at the time was the Peace Corps, but I felt like their process was too long and I was ready to leave soon, so I went w/WorldTeach.
      I recently wrote two articles for GoAbroad.com specifically about volunteering in Africa, but they haven't been published yet, but will be soon. I'll comment back with the links when they're up!
      I also wrote a guide to volunteering in Africa for GoAbroad.com here: www.goabroad.com/articles/volunteer-abroad/ultimate-guide-to-volunteer-in-africa That's a great website for finding intern/gap year/volunteer/teach abroad opportunities.
      Lastly, if you're a certified teacher, pls read + listen to this interview I did on my website with an African American who taught in Nigeria. She shares some great resources for finding jobs abroad if you're a certified teacher:

    I visited Namibia in 1987 and again in 2018, it was still better than most of Africa but a lot of the standards had fallen and corruption was a lot worse than before independence. Things seemed to be going backwards much as they did in Zimbabwe. The country is really nice though and the people are friendly, climate is fantastic. Not too humid in Windhoek.

    Hi Dear, thanks for your nice and interesting videos. Just a question, did you ever get a chance to attend events for example a wedding of non-Oshiwambo speakers, like for instance Nama or Otjiherero wedding? And if you did, how did you find the cultural differences comparing to your own Oshiwambo wedding? Thanks
