Skimming by, for some reason I thought you had the titles mixed and you were going to pit the Dandy's "Green" with REM's "Orange Crush". Both songs had good points. I picked up on the breathy helicopter sounds in "Orange" (perhaps with the "soldier" mention a reference to Agent Orange?). In "Green Grow" the jangly guitar was more uplifting, though given the interpretations you mentioned of some, that may be purposeful misdirection/contrast. I'd probably be more likely to give a repeat listen to "Orange" though.
