REM has one of my favorite songs of all time. ‘Losing my religion’. Every time I hear it I sing it out loud, usually in the car though.

I saw these guys live in '84, '86 and '88. First time, I was standing about 10 feet in front of Mike Mills (the bassist). Been to a shit-ton of shows, but I still think that was the best live performance I've ever seen. Just super, super intense.

More videos like this please! Great song of a great band! Like you said; it’s wonderful and magical what music can do to you. The first song I can remember I heard when I was a kid was AC/DC - Night prowler, blasting through the speakers of my fathers old Ford Taunus on our way to kindergarten in the early 90’s😂

I have watched several of their live performances of this, he always uses the bullhorn. Considering the subject matter, it lends a depth and power to the performance. My playlist has a live performance over the studio version.

Love the concept. Love REM. I loved the album Green, came out when I was in college and spending all my $ on stereo equipment and parties, so of course I bought it. I admit Green was when it felt to me that they had gone mainstream, commercial. LOL. Document, and Dead Letter Office, an album of B-sides, were also great.

First music video you remember seeing?
First song that was "yours" rather than something that your parents introduced you too?
I remember having my Janet Jackson "Control" album when I was very young, but Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was probably the song/video that got me headed towards a different type of music.

R.E.M. was a band that I liked but never really dug into seriously. Nevertheless, I have a couple of LPs from them in my rack, and this song has somehow always appealed to me a lot. It is simple but still just draws you in.

This is a really cool idea to show off the songs that shaped your musical journey. I can't remember the first song I ever heard specifically but it was either Children's Crusade by Sting, Puff the Magic Dragon by Peter, Paul, and Mary, or a song from The Beatles. I was born in 1997 and this was the type of music my parents played for me.

This song is superb. MUCH underrated. Definitely NOT anything like the first alternative rock band. I have been a listener to alternative bands since the 60's. Many bands are "alternative" until other bands start using a similar style, Everybody forgets how creative it was when they turned up. Led Zepplin was about a alternative as you could get when the first album came out.
The arpeggio guitar riff is one of the greats.
Can't agree about the Rick sounds. It is my most unfavourite guitar sounds in the world. Even the Beatles couldn't make it sound good. When I bought my first guitar in the late 60's , I said "I want a guitar that doesn't sound like a Rickenbacker"
The effects of Agent orange are STILL occuring. Damaged DNA!!!!

Edit: on the end of vid request - yeah, man, I want to see all of your non- metal influences. As a kid who grew up throwing elbows in pits at punk shows, I can talk for hours about the rich vocal harmonies of The Beach Boys and CSNY. What do you jam to when you don’t feel like whippin your hair around?

I love the idea of this series. (Heading over to the In Flames one after this haha!) The first time I heard Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in concert, I cried from pure nostalgia. My dad listened to them so much while I was growing up. So much of my music taste is traced to my parents: rock/folk/country from my dad, pop from my mom. When I hear a song from my youth, it hits in a whole different way. Thank you for sharing this piece of yourself and also just a great gear breakdown ☺️💜🤘🏼🎸 I love REM too! 80's/90's kid haha

For me the song I can first remember listening to and singing out loud was Hermans Hermits I'm Henry the 8th. I was about 5 years old and used to go running around singing that song like a fool. Yes I am that old. If you don't mind I was also wondering about a comment you made when you did a reaction to The Islander by Nightwish. You got very emotional during that reaction and said it reminded you of home. Was it the Celtic feel of the song that got to you or was it something else.

This is great. I’m not a huge fan of REM but I’ve always loved this song. I actually remember where I was the first time I heard it.
