    Viewer Kwan Rex got in touch to ask me if I could restore his Matchbox 57C Land Rover Fire Truck, to which I of course said yes! On the face of things, all looked well. He asked for a new set of ladders and it would obviously need a new set of decals after repainting. However, I wasn't quite prepared for the travesty that lie within the casting!
    At some point the entire front axle had been glued preventing it or the wheels turning. Some of that glue had evidently spread to other parts of the inside including the window piece. The model was also missing its sliding suspension piece that was unique to the 57C. This allowed you to turn the suspension 'on or off' effectively. As nobody reproduces these parts, I needed to craft my own for Kwan.
    The model was produced by Lesney for the Matchbox and Superfast line between 1966 and 1971. It was converted to Superfast wheels in 1970. The casting is based on the Land Rover Series IIA Forward Control that was built between 1962 and 1966 for utility purposes. These continued to be made as the 2B up until 1974.

    Love these revisits, Jason! Even though many of the 1-75 original Matchbox vehicles are utilitarian and not sports cars, they're all very interesting models. Not everything needs to be a Ferrari to be exciting and fun. Often it is the restoration alone that is of most interest, and not the subject matter, so when I see you doing classic loaders, bulldozers, fire trucks and police cars, I just love the change of pace! Please do more of this!

    This fire truck was part of my collection back when I was a kid.
    I remember that switch on the bottom….
    I didn’t think it did anything, but now I know!
    Good resto job

    Looks great Jason 👌🏻
    I'm sure Kwan is happy with the results too.
    It's amazing how many variations of the Land Rover there were, including this, the pick-ups and recovery vehicles.

    Love if matchbox made a modern version of this one, looks so cool. Not a fan of the vintage wheels but that casting is amazing.

    What a stunning restoration as usual. I was bit if not much surprised to see glue on the axle/base and window piece. Never seen that before, on a diecast car that’s not been drilled apart. I guess it’s from the previous owner(s)

    looks as new again, and great repair, too. :) though I do wonder how they applied all that glue without taking the baseplate off... that was an art-work by itself, methinks.

    Hey, Jason! May I know a best method to use in making number plates for scale models without having a 3D printer?

      I simply print out my design onto decal paper and apply that decal to a very thin sheet of styrene. I just cut that to size and apply to wherever it is needed on the model!

    Quick question for you, I noticed you use Artistro paint pens in most of video, so I bought some black Artistro paint pens to try out, but when I try to use them on surfaces like a plastic windshield, it fails to stick to it and sort of just sits on top in a puddle. Was wondering if you’ve had this problem with these paint pens before and if you know what went wrong

    • @DieCastRestos
      @DieCastRestos  2 місяці тому

      Are yours acrylic or oil based? Acrylic should adhere to plastics where I imagine the oil based ones wouldn’t

    • @MashaWasTaken
      @MashaWasTaken 2 місяці тому

      @@DieCastRestos I believe they’re acrylic, but they also say they have water based ink if that means anything

    • @DieCastRestos
      @DieCastRestos  2 місяці тому

      The ones I have say on the box ‘multi-surface’ so perhaps that is the difference?

    • @MashaWasTaken
      @MashaWasTaken 2 місяці тому

      @@DieCastRestos maybe, but mine lists a bunch of surfaces it’s compatible for, like plastic, so it makes no sense why it doesn’t stick to the windshields well

      Bit of a mystery. Sorry my recommendation hasn’t worked out for you
