As a fan in the Midwest, what were the reasons behind not placing one of the teams in the Midwest region? Looking back on the 2023 ticket sales Columbus, Louisville, and Minneapolis all were great stops last season. I’m hopeful that one of the 2 remaining regular season stops will be in the Midwest during the 2024 season.
As a michigan guy I didn't expect michigan to get a team for a long while, hell the pll hasn't even been here. But I thought it would've been nice for a Midwest team to go see, but nada. Also, texas not having a team is ridiculous. I hope the pll expands again soon so I can see some great lacrosse, but this annoys me being a huge fan of the game.

I’m just now getting interested into watching lacrosse. It would be cool if my state had a team but considering NC is close I have chosen the Chaos. Kinda like with hockey I chose the Predators as the next closest NHL team. Go Chaos
Is the PLL gonna add anymore lacrosse teams in the future? If so, you should really add one to Dallas (or Fort Worth). Its name could be something like "Dallas Bulls" or really anything. But Texas has growing lacrosse fan base, so I highly suggest a team in the DFW area.
The Waterdogs should have been placed ANYWHERE in the Midwest; probably Columbus. Reasons why it shouldn’t have been Philly: 1) They’re right in between NY and MD so those fans could choose either one of those cities to root for as their home, OR just pick a random or their current team regardless of location. 2) Keeping championship weekend in Philly is a centrally location between the other 4 teams on the east coast AND it would be a “neutral” city for teams playing 3) Columbus/OH is a big enough market with OSU and surrounding states to make it work Cincinnati - 1.5hrs Indianapolis - 2hrs Pittsburgh - 2.5hrs Louisville - 3hrs Detroit - 3hrs South Bend - 4.5hrs Chicago - 5hrs Sincerely, a NYer living in Missouri
I get the whole Maryland connection with the Whips but it could have easily been the DMV Whipsnakes and you bring in the entire DC and Virginia markets. A lot of lacrosse and viewership opportunities lost by leaving out DC and Virginia
I like this. This was such an important thing to get right and I think the league has done just that. As the league grows more and more and, I imagine, the touring model starts to wind down and slowly become a more traditional league model as the teams get more and more entrenched within their home markets, this is a good foundation to build outward for a more sustainable future. I understand that a lot of people in the Midwest, Texas, and Florida are disappointed, but I know you guys are probably right at the front of the line for expansion. Excited for where this goes.
No Midwest? LAME. Great Lakes region (MN, WI, IL, MI, OH) are thriving lacrosse communities with massive youth tournaments. D1 programs in Milwaukee, Ann Arbor, and Columbus. Not to mention Northwestern women's lax is dominate. It's a damn shame.
The continued negligence of the Midwest needs to be addressed. The fact that I live by Chicago and the 2 closest clubs to me are Denver and Philly is absurd. How is anyone in the general central USA gonna be able to connect to any of these new clubs for those who are looking to get into the sport and the league. Either the PLL is just looking to make a profit to grow the league and hopefully expand or they just dont care about growing the game in the midwest. Either way, they need to be transparent about it and tell us why they keep ignoring us lax fans here in the midwest.
@@sinquiz5730exactly guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about theres only 8 teams what makes him think they are going to put a team in a completely unestablished market
For the immediate future it would make sense to put teams in smaller markets - places that don't have franchises in the major sports leagues. Those types of communities typically embrace more fringe sports like lacrosse. They tend to sell more tickets, have more sell outs and make more money at the gate and from merchandizing. Downside is, you want to be in the major markets for TV - although a sold out game with a crowd going nuts (in a smaller city) looks much better on TV than half-empty stadium with fans falling asleep. Makes sense to start in smaller markets and move to larger ones as the popularity of the sport grows - although TV might not allow for that.
it’s really relative. Lacrosse’s hotbeds historically viewership and play wise in the US are largely centered on the east coast where pro sports have a large following in general. What Lacrosse has going for it really is the timing of its season as it only really competes with Baseball and Soccer for viewership. While soccer is gaining popularity it is still quite niche in the US so Lacrosse definitely has a solid chance of gaining a footing even with the niche nature of it. Mad heads play and watch field on Long Island despite being right next to NYC and having ample opportunities to play other sports, it’s just part of our culture. Would be really weird and quite frankly offensive to the history of Lacrosse in the US to not put a team close to the market. Same with Maryland etc. Something to be said about giving a nod to the populaces that kept the game around while it wallowed in obscurity for decades. We had the Lizards well before the PLL, and have been playing well before it got big with the NCAA. Small market strategies while solid on paper don’t work with every situation.
As an eastern european lacrosse fan, yeah sure, they should totally move to areas where lacrosse is nonexistent. Lets put two clubs in africa, two in europe, two in asia, two in south america, and then one in montana and one in mississippi. How does that sound to you? No, that would obviously not be commercially viable. I agree that the northeast has 1 too many teams, i think either the waterdogs or whipsnakes should’ve been moved somewhere else, but overall its not horrible.
Their still doing the touring their just consolidating teams it's so much easy to just pick the team that Is closest to you then just try and pick a random team out the blue
Calm down. There are only 8 teams. There's plenty of room for expansion. If you're going to have 2 conferences, you're going to need more teams. I'm betting that expansion comes sooner than later.
Michigan Michigan Michigan. Plenty of opportunities with a ginormous growing market in lacrosse, and one of the biggest companies in the sport was founded in Michigan, that being warrior. Got to tap into Michigan for the next team.
I cannot fault any decision made here; great to see the Outlaws back (I had a feeling you might). Now all that is needed is to make games available to watch in Australia.
It's different, but I like it. I think the organization made smart decisions regarding how everything was done. I can never bring myself to root against Maryland...so, Maryland Whips it is! *whispers* roll woods 😢

If so, please bring back the Launch or bring back the Chrome to be the Florida pro lacrosse expansion team! Paul Rabil absolutely knocked this promo out the park. We’re lucky to have such a good representative of the sport. Can’t wait for the sixes tourney in February, my Redwoods are loaded. ROLL WOODS 🌲🐻💚💚
But after sixes ? I’m transitioning to the Maryland whips. I just love what they did with their brand!! Damn the PLL crushed this. The MLL could never 🤣
It’s clear that Paul Rabil didn’t want to take a chance on new pro lacrosse markets and he is stuck in the old ways of the MLL. Disappointing that they teased cities like Chicago, Louisville and Nashville (which have a ton of lacrosse) to stick with home cities everyone has already seen in the MLL. Takes excitement out of the league as it was meant to grow the sport. They made it seem like they were moving to new ways to grow the game. The Midwest is not as historic or popular as New England (bordering where lacrosse originated) and East Coast. Colorado was chosen bc of the huge fan base from the MLL and NLL teams winning in championships past. LA has a large fan base with the San Diego Seals and the lacrosse market on the west coast is growing bc of the NLL.
They just need time they are a new league. Need money and a foundation from existing markets to grow in the future. Too big of a risk to just jump into new markets.
@@BigDaner there have been 8 teams for going on 4 years now and they absorbed the MLL. By the MLLs 6th year they had added 4 expansion teams and it wasn’t nearly as well managed. 2 of which were failed California teams and 1 being the Denver Outlaws.

My outstanding questions is are these team in base cities or market areas? As in will there be games in Albany where Atlas are the home team and later in the season games in Long Island hosted by Atlas again? Similar for all of California or will they be LA focused? Trying to better understand the market vs city concept in line with the touring model
Uhh. Did I miss something about the cities? We know the states but are the team centered in an actual city within the state? Or does that change randomly? I.E. California Redwoods/L.A. or is it S.F.??? Will we have to wait to see when the ticket go on sale?
What i wished would have happened. WEST: Minnesota Waterdogs Texas Atlas Colorado Archers California Redwoods EAST: Ontario or Toronto Chaos New York Chrome New England Cannons Carolina or Florida Whipsnakes. ...Hoping Chrome will return for my son's sake.
NOT putting teams in Southern Ontario or the greater Vancouver Areas is a huge miss for the league. Having a Canadian team would have allowed for TV coverage and merchandise sales across the entire country - like what happens for the Raptors and Blue Jays. Not to mention that in the NLL, the five Canadian teams average attendance last year was 9,274 while the average attendance for the 10 US teams was only 6,912 (basically 30% more fans at the games in Canada). Five of the top 10 attendance markets for the NLL are in Canada and the 5 markets with the lowest attendance are ALL in the states. There are plenty of Canadian players. There should have been at least one - probably 2 teams in Canada.
Give it some time. If in 4 years we don't have an expansion then I'll be mad. In the expansion get midwest/minnesota, texas, and two Canadian teams. Eventually in 10 years hopefully it can expand to 16 with places like oregon/washington, tennesee, chicago, and maybe another canadian team.
Ohio should have a team , Columbus not getting one just does not make sense, and yet Utah gets one and you are trying to claim that its because of amount of ticket sales/venue availability being why they got one...? I would rather you just admit that we forgot about it instead of decided to pick Utah over a team in the Midwest. And then jam 5 teams in a 400 mile radius on the east coast? Seems like capitalizing off where lacrosse is ALREADY popular instead of spacing the programs out to allow more regions to access the professional game?
Those cities that have teams now, enjoy it while it lasts. As soon as the PLL figures out they can make more money without expansion by having teams in Las Vegas and LA, they will pull denver, utah Carolina. you better hope ticket and merchandise sales hit their quota.
I'm excited for the future of the pll but also scared. The pll could easily go downhill like the mll and im just hoping it doesnt. eventually in a few years we need a midwest team, texas team, 1 or 2 canadian teams and maybe a seattle or portland team. Utah Archers doesnt make sense it should've been like a minnesota archers.
How does Canada not have a team? Lacrosse is Canadas national sport and we have dedicated lacrosse fans that support NLL teams even in small cities. Not to mention we own USA in this sport when you count box and feild. Sounds like the PLL is trying to stunt the growth of lacrosse in Canada but regardless we will still win Gold at the olympics in 2028.
I understand that people are upset about the midwest not having a team but with the tour based style staying I think that can push people in the midwest to go out to games and show that they deserve a team or two which they definitely do.
But now that teams are assigned to cities, why would I go see the tour? Sure, hardcore lacrosse lovers will go see the tour, but the PLL already has hardcore lacrosse fans locked up. I think its "lacrosse curious" that they should be cultivating for growth, and that's the developmental markets that they should have had a team or two in. The main reason I would go would be so support my regional team, not for the love of the game (yet). No way I want to go see two costal teams play, I have no interest or investment in them; and there's no way I could convince my non-lacrosse buddies to go see NY play LA here in the south. Ticket sales make up 25% or so of most successful sports league's revenues. TV and merch revenue is king. They ignored the entire south, including many of the top sports markets in the country. I know it's weird, but wish they could have kept at least one roaming homeless team for us to take an interest in.
Where are the atlas playing? There are so many large markets for lacrosse throughout New York. Should be close to the center of the state like Syracuse so all of New York can see the teams play.
Lol come on you guys know it’s going to be NYC.. Rabil is a clown… then he’s on espn announcing the teams and they’re just running clips rushing him off the set not even giving him any time. No one cares about the PLL… it will be like the mll just existing in the land of irrelevancy and profit loss for years until he just gives it up. He should of went to markets that were unique instead of all the eastern lacrosse hotbeds… it’s such a lax bro move though so not surprised. I’m from Philly and love lacrosse but still just seeing all the fans in the comments from under developed lacrosse areas - or so people think - are actually hype on lacrosse and would support a team… we out in the northeast are already immersed in lacrosse it’s not new or exciting.. he should’ve went to places like Nashville, Texas, even Vegas. At least then it’s something new and you know at least for a little bit crowds will probably be huge.
Feels like trying the same thing and hoping for another outcome... should have taken some risk in developing a new market or two. Never going to grow if you keep playing in the same markets over and over, and they should have just stuck with the touring model. Hard to root for and identify with a team down here in Texas anymore. Not going to cheer for another region's team, especially a NE team :D
Paul. He played 1 year in the NLL for the Washington stealth. Then left and started the PLL. BOX LACROSSE Is so much more competitive and better to watch
As far as the franchises of the newly created PLL, keeping the achers, Redwoods, Whipsnakes and Waterdogs makes sense, but they should look at bringing back more of the classic MLL franchises with a real rich history. Rochester Rattlers and Chesapeake Bayhawks would be great franchises to bring back to those areas, allowing a move for the Whipsnakes to the SW of the U.S. Also, a midwest team like the Machine would really be a hit for that region.
Huge disappointment there’s not a Midwest team. Minnesota/Illinois/Michigan/Ohio and others are very passionate lacrosse areas and you just gave us all the middle finger! Just an insane missed opportunity. Really not interested in watching going forward since you don’t care about us here. Good thing Utah and Denver both get teams though!
I can't tell if ur sarcastic about the last part. Yes utah doesnt need a team and shouldve gone towards the midwest or canada. But DENVER?!! Colorado is the biggest lacrosse market in the west
LXM use to tour in Utah, there’s a market there. Once the league expands more I guarantee they take risks in the Midwest. You have to think of the league from a long term business perspective. Why risk 1/8th or more of your market in the Midwest this early?
Utah has one real pro sports team( not counting soccer), which is valued 21/30 for a reason, the market is garbage for all sports. A good idea would have been to put your best and most exciting team( Archers) in the Midwest. Winning teams will always bring in fans.
Having conference championships is probably a mistake. Why risk having the two best teams meeting before the championship in a league that has no travel-related reasons for separating teams into conferences? Same goes for the lack of reseeding if there's an upset in the first round.
In time home cities will grow on people. Why are we bothering with a split conference system when the PLL only has 8 teams that tour.....so the same 4 teams are gonna play each other with a reduced season?
my son and I think that Detroit Chrome has I nice ring and would be awesome to bring a midwest location to the mix

I don’t really care what geographic team I’m supposed to support now. I’m still just going to cheer for and support my favorite players.

How many times does UVA have to win the national championship for there to be a team in Virginia?
Wahoowa
Minnesota needs a team soon
Richmond Va Needs a team
Seattle always left out. But has some of the best rugby attendance, mls, mlb, NFL, etc
Yeah cuz it’s a not market 😂😂😂😂 can yall stop yapping about it?
Seattle is very loyal to their teams unlike other cities that boo at their home team, I think Seattle would have a very stable team for an expansion
@@henrybug8887 No they wouldn’t. There’s like no lacrosse fans there.
Really wanna see Texas and Florida expansion teams
Expansion talks? Thoughts of when that would be added to the table? Bring in 2 teams at a time I assume?
Hopefully
Ohio should have a team , Columbus not getting one just does not make sense, and yet Utah gets one and you are trying to claim that its because of amount of ticket sales/venue availability being why they got one...? I would rather you just admit that we forgot about it instead of decided to pick Utah over a team in the Midwest. And then jam 5 teams in a 400 mile radius on the east coast? Seems like capitalizing off where lacrosse is ALREADY popular instead of spacing the programs out to allow more regions to access the professional game?
Florida needs to be in PLL... Florida Bullsharks!!!! you heard it first!
They're not gonna settle yet... don't worry. Still tour and growth based
Oh thank goodness
So hype
Apparently we need 50 teams and a couple of territory teams as well... 🤓
Chicago needs a team
How does Canada not have a team? Lacrosse is Canadas national sport and we have dedicated lacrosse fans that support NLL teams even in small cities. Not to mention we own USA in this sport when you count box and feild. Sounds like the PLL is trying to stunt the growth of lacrosse in Canada but regardless we will still win Gold at the olympics in 2028.
I understand that people are upset about the midwest not having a team but with the tour based style staying I think that can push people in the midwest to go out to games and show that they deserve a team or two which they definitely do.
Yeah but then the midwest people don’t have a team to root for. I bet they’ll add 2 new teams tho.
@@bitmonkey9267 It’s just so cities that don’t have a team can watch numbnuts
I'll just be honest all I want it the new york lizards, man
FINALLY!!!!!
Damn it now I’m stuck who to follow! Do I follow archers for state or waterdogs for passion
I can now officially say I’m all dawgs.
Where are the atlas playing? There are so many large markets for lacrosse throughout New York. Should be close to the center of the state like Syracuse so all of New York can see the teams play.
It should be in Albany
At least then it’s something new and you know at least for a little bit crowds will
probably be huge.
No it isn’t. It’s goofy asf.
Box lacrosse will forever be a Canadian thing.

we would love to see a team in san francisco. Thers lots of love up here!
The california redwoods are literally there 😂
We really need a team in Cincinnati. Not sure what the expansion fee is.
I hope a team comes to the PNW someday 🤞🏻
I hope a team comes to Atlanta but a lil sad one wasn't sure what I was expecting though because not very many people play it here.

Let's goooo with the Denver Outlaws coming back!!!
Midwest 😢
LETS GO PHILLY WATERDOGS
Should’ve added atleast 2 more teams. 8 teams is so low for a “growing” sport. Y’all need to expand and take risks to make this league to grow.
Never mentioned why no location was selected in the entire Midwest, Texas or Florida.
I called the archers coming to my state
When is the Cannon’s B New Era fitted cap gonna be available?
Texas, Florida, Midwest expansions surely
Having conference championships is probably a mistake. Why risk having the two best teams meeting before the championship in a league that has no travel-related reasons for separating teams into conferences? Same goes for the lack of reseeding if there's an upset in the first round.
Boohoo
It kind of just seems like we’re back to square one, where the MLL was before the PLL came in
Will all the chrome players, coaches and staff automatically transfer to the Denver Outlaws?
Seems that way if you look up the roster
In time home cities will grow on people. Why are we bothering with a split conference system when the PLL only has 8 teams that tour.....so the same 4 teams are gonna play each other with a reduced season?
Slap in the face to day one Chrome fans! Thanks Paul for wasting my time and money on that team!
Carolina Chaos let's go
Atlanta needs a team, Paul. Atlanta needs a team.
Yupp, not watching next season.
