Phil is such a natural presenter. Would love to see more vids like this and/or more co-presenting with Jay. Honestly the two of them work amazingly well with eachother
Props to Phil! amazing in depth video. Jay can go on holiday more often if he wants because phil is doing a phenomenal job! Great work Phil, filming, benchmarking and editing this video!
@@fynkozari9271 Not an expert but this what I know from my experience and research: Each new generation of GPUs and their architectures make changes in the number of compute units and cores resulting in bigger die-sizes and power consumption. It's a much linear increase between power and performance than CPUs. I can't comment on AMD's 7000 series chiplet design but generally more performance requires more power. Correct if I am wrong experts out there.
Jay has some serious competition on his own channel ;) ! Great job Phil ! You are awesome ! Can't wait to see you and Nick, even more, even if Jay is not on vacation. Hope you really enjoy a well deserved vacation, Jay ! Love you guys !
What a dynamic of content they could have with 2 or 3 regular hosts with their own presentation styles (perspectives). Sometimes a single talking head can become limited in perspective (repetitive even). I hope this is the beginning of something new for JTC. Love the channel. Love to see it keep growing!!
We demand more Phil! I've said it before but Phil's enthusiasm is infectious and just makes you remember how much fun there is to be had in PC building.
Loved to see Phil on the screen, you can tell he is also an enthusiast when it comes to PC parts. Although probably nervous about being on the other end of the camera, i bet he had fun with those cards and doing this video. The additions at the end (Jay and the bloopers) were awesome.
Because the XTX has more VRAM, and I play VR flight sims, I will most likely go with Team Red this time. For the first time in a LOOONG time. Will be putting a waterblock on it, though. Hopefully we get some some videos on OC headroom soon! 😉 Edit: Will be building on a new X3D chip when they drop in January...probably a 7900X3D.
I think we will have a surprise coming, board partners will probably ramp up the clocks and I believe they have a bottle neck with drivers, I think we will see the XTX move closer to the 4090.
@@NexGen-3D I already bought my 7900xtx and i love it, i will overclock it later to see where it can go but dosent need it yet, and it fits on my computer perfect and not burning my home down like the rtx 4000 series lmao
Dudes! This video kills it! Phil did a great job with the intro and descriptions. I don't think I've ever watched a benchmark video with such a good intro. More please!
Excellent job Phil. Would like to see you do more of these reviews. In regards to upgrading the test rig to try to counteract the bottleneck, I'm curious to see the difference between your current test setup and the 13th gen Intel, or either of the Ryzen 9 7000 series CPUs (7900X or 7950X). I get the feeling the new 7000 GPUs were made to operate with the new 7000 CPUs.
built a 7950x ddr5 and a 13900k dd4 in the last month the 7950x is throttling a 3090 more than the 13900k for sure and this will be worse with the 7900 or 4000s that said it's very dependant on games and how they use the cpu, on DX12 and vulkan (recent) games AMD wins obviously but on DX11 (the majority of games) intel is noticeably faster and those DX11 or older games are the ones bottlenecked by the cpu because they don't use all the cores, you can have visual confirmation with 3dmark cpu overhead bench, this benchmark shows what anyone who had the two brands running side by side knows, reviewers dropped it because it's unsupported and not very reliable sometimes you get weird results and have to relaunch but it has never been more relevant than 2022
This totally gives me old school Tiger Direct review vibes (in a very good way). Really enjoyed listening to Phil’s coverage and opinions, well done sir, look forward to hearing more from you in the future!
Great job Phil! Love the fact that you remind people to check out the “competition’s” reviews aswell, really shows how cool you guys are! P.s. Jay, enjoy your vacation!
This was an awesome review. Great to see Phil running through the benchmarks and giving a good analysis and down to Earth conversation about their places in the market. It would be dope to see Phil do some more standalone videos of his own in the future.
Well done Phil!!! Awesome job and the snippets at the end were gold. For me, sticking with my 3080 12GB for now. It will easily last me at least this gen. AMD seriously has me thinking about going red though, cpu and gpu. I've been a blue green builder for years so maybe the time has come.
@@JanoBanano1996 Which is better price/performance depends on what you use the GPU or CPU for, which gen and which sku and if you buy new or used, complicated. Right now if only game, don't use RT and don't mind the odd driver crash then AMD is a bit better but a used Nvidia 3080 is an even better deal.
@@jondonnelly3 recently purchased the 6800 XT for around 570€ which is enormously cheaper than any nvidia card in that range. Ryzen 5600x for around 150€ and you are good to go. Amd is my choice for now and probably the future as well
@@JanoBanano1996 I'm running the 12700k and the 3080 12GB, picked both up on sale, cpu for £360 (£80 saving at the time) and the gpu new for £699 about 3 months ago. Very happy with both, play all sorts of games and little photoshop and manages all with ease. I've used intel and nvidia for a long time now but with AMD's product atm I am really considering them when I next build a system, its just a shame they couldnt do better price wise with this cpu gen compared to how they are priced against nvidia with their gpu's otherwise I may have considered them now. My system is good enough for now though.
If your GPU usage is less than 99%, and it's doing that a lot. Then there's a bottleneck. This is not necessarily a bad thing. If, FOR EXAMPLE ONLY, you game at 1080p, your gpu usage is only 50%, BUT you're getting 300 fps; then you have a cpu bottleneck. Bc the Gpu is spitting frames faster than the Processor can keep it fed.
A CPU bottleneck test with the new graphics cards would be interesting but it would also be interesting to see how the cards' performance varies between using AMD and Intel processors as well.
AMD and Intel Cpu comparison with such powerfull Gpus would be nice to have now :D , I hope they hear your suggestion couse I am also wondering the same thing.
amd gpus have over 2.5x the fp 64 of nivida gpus, what used to do that Floating Point 64 was the cpu unless you have a $10,000 nivda gpu or volta because they disable a big amount of those cores to consumer. My hella old 2014 amd firepro w8100 has better fp64 than the wimpy rtx 4090 its 2.099 to 1.200 tflops but all of this dose not really matter
I would also like to see how my last gen AMD 5700X (I even have it on an older X370 motherboard) stacks up against the latest Intel and AMD processors, including the mid-range ones, not just the top end.
The reason I love this team is that everyone is an authentic person. No facade, just real people sharing real thoughts. And that's much appreciated by everyone. Well done Phil.
Wow, I watch a lot of tech review videos and rarely comment on them but I was blown away in the intro when Phil said to check out other reviews to get a more complete picture. Honesty like that is unheard of on UA-cam, great presentation overall and hope to see more of him on the channel
Good job Phil, keep up the good work. One thing, you guys should do a video on Bench marking. What it is , how they work and most importantly, how to interpret them. Been watching you guys do them and it all goes over my head and I know that I am, not the only one who is a little confused when you guys show them.
Great job Phil! Definitely very informative and helps all of us make better decisions on what we want in our rigs. The outtakes were awesome also! Haha.
I loved Phil's review. If he's OK with it, I'd be glad to see him more often doing some reviews or other content. He brings some freshness and variety, and another point of view
Phil you did an amazing job! Loved your take on the new cards. Would have liked to have seen a direct comparison on temps with the 4080. While I believe the Radeon cards are the better buy (unless nvidia responds with a price cut) if the 4080 does significantly better on thermals, then that opens overclocking capabilities a little more. Otherwise, looks like amd knocked it out of the park this time.
AIB cards is where the overclocking will shine since most of them will run larger coolers with triple 8 pin.. AMD's sticking to what reference cards are suppose to be and that's the minimum performance you should see with that card.
@@sirmonkey1985 I would normally agree with you, but nvidia has definitely blurred those lines with this gen. They now use binned chips with a good cooler, so I feel that should be factored in. Couple that with aib cards being the size of a ps5… it’s just been a messy generation.
Thanks Phil, you brought a smile to my face with the very start! A great job stepping in to Jayz shoes and we want to see more of you doing reviews as well.
Great job on the review Phil. My main takeaways from your awesome, in-depth review are that AMD is making a solid GPU this generation and that Nvidia is charging about $200 too high for the 4080.
I like that you included a little section for abnormalities in use. Even with press drivers. Not many people think about all the weird driver problems with new tech. I'm also glad it went so smooth. Great news for AMD and great Job Phil.
Phil... For doing quite a hard job presenting just numbers and performance and keeping your ADHDX under control (most of the time in the vid) you did a heel of a job. Not just informative but also the humor. Jay's gonna be proud and we as viewers are also. It wouldn't hurt the channel to have Phil doing some more of these vids. He integrates well with the misspeaks flmblrmbl, the serious note and his personal opinion. You did good boy! Now get yourself a nice pizza and beverage to celebrate your fame :P
You're absolutely right - it is an incredible time to be a hardware enthusiast. It's great to see competition at the higher end - really looking forward to see the war for the middle ground. Also, well done, Phil! Keep building on what you did with today's video - your joy for technology comes out on camera as honest enthusiasm. I'm here for it.
Honestly, this is a long time coming and I’m glad to see it! Phil always seemed so genuine in his retorts to Jay and it comes across in his reviews too. Congrats Phil, can’t way to see more!!
Thanks Phil! It would be nice to see a video on CPUs and bottlenecks in order to know if the $100 difference would make for a better performing system if it goes to the CPU rather than the GPU.
Considering its a brand new chiplet architecture and they have it trading blows with team green already, it will be interesting to see what they can do, once AMD has got an understanding of it’s new chiplet design and optimise the drivers for them etc.
If the 7900XTX will be good priced here in EU🇪🇺/Germany🇩🇪 I will buy one. The problem sometimes is, that regional pricing differs. I will may be more consider the 7900 XT, as 1440P is my favourite gaming resolution. Interesting would be, which CPU will be “powerful” enough, so a 5700X/5800X3D for example (would be a great video - Which CPU for RX 7000) or if you have to go AM5 (resp. the INTEL ones). Great that Jay opens his channel to other hosts and that they do such a great job. Jay, great idea, Phil nice hosting, Nick excellent teamwork and the others, too! I hope that the whole community and the team of Jay(z) will have a nice and healthy time till Christmas plus enjoyable holidays :) Cheers, Pepe
I'm not in the market for a card. I love to see that you have great options when it comes to picking cards. If you want to spend that top end money, the 4090 exists. If you want something not as crazy, you have a difficult decision between that XTX and the 4080. This is what we all were hoping for. I'm glad AMD delivered. Here is hoping they continue to follow this trend for generations. Phil, great job hosting! Hope it wasn't too nerve-wracking for ya.
I'd take the AMD card all day long. The 4080 is way too big and abnoxious looking. If you do more than gaming though and you need the perks of Nvidia, then that's a different story.
Its an easy decision when all 3 are so overpriced, the XT should be $600 the XTX $700 and the 4080 $800. All AMD have delivered is the same overpriced garbage as Nvidia.
Honestly I'm really, really disappointed and I think it's just nuts that AMD finally snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, bafflingly doing so yet again despite the fact we've been waiting for this and that the entire RDNA2 lineup easily trade blows straight up the stack. Like it was absolute parity. Idk, seeing shit like this is why I decided to spend my PC money on colognes and stuff instead. I just saw that dumpsterfire that was Lovelace headed down the pike and realized I didn't game enough atm to merit it, work too much, game too little, and had a bad feel. Reality turned to be even worse. Oh and plus I have a 5700XT that frankly to make any use of a new graphics card I'd need to either buy Total Warhammer 3, get a new monitor, or both, because at 1440p my hardware still runs everything 60-75fps that I threw at it mainly. SO I still don't need to upgrade. But man. What a dumpsterfire. Now I know why everybody's stock prices dipped. Somehow, in spite of it being literally the worst launch I've ever seen nVidia make since the GT 260, it still managed to beat the 7900XTX like freaking HOW did they even manage that??? BUT, then again, I do take one peep at those TDPs an I'm all like >355w Yeah no. I can't do much worse than 300w without needing to get a new power supply (I may need to anyway, it's 850w and if I want a 5950x or 5800X3D or something, may tip over keeping in mind I've got a HOTAS that's known to be finickywith power supply, two optical drives, multiple hard drives lots of ARGB SSDS fans etc) and so that'll set me back an additional like $200 on top of the monitor, which was the biggest issue I ultimately had to nVidia prior to seeing the new MSRP is that I'd literally need to allocate an additional couple hundred dollars I wasnt planning to spend just to offset nVidia's terrible efficiency. Although, if you're getting a XTX I doubt you'd care about something like that (and it's still not the 450-600w 4090 that costs both your kidneys so there's that). At end of the day though...$1600 for a 4080 that won't fit in your case and catches on fire fucking lol It's still the better buy even with the worse performance. I'm just so dismayed by this generation, it's nuts buying stuff like Man in Black was more sensible to me to celebrate becoming a non-smoker than gaming hardware. I guess I always could just pick up a 7700XT later still, but was hoping for a 7800XT and 4k144.
@@pandemicneetbux2110 The rated power draw of the gpus is not the actual draw. People have reported the 4090 drawing 250w and pretty much never above 300w. I assume it will be the same with amd.
Great job Phil!! While we won't know how much more will come out of the 7000 series as the software is further tweaked, I am happy I got the Red Devil 6950xt for my son's build a few weeks ago for 800. No regrets as it is still holding it's own and was a great price.
@@RichardMontgomeryYT No, my son has worked every summer since he was 12 as a picker, and now works full time at a farm. This is the product of his hard work and being frugal with his money. That said, we choose to live below what we could so we don't have debt. 🙂
@@RichardMontgomeryYT I understand It isn't easy. We sold our home and moved into a smaller 800+ sq. ft place when I headed into a lot of physical problems with my back and neck. Since then we have been very careful and budget everything. We do without a lot of things, but by being frugal, we maintain no debt. It is a give and take to be sure. Good luck on your end of things. I hope you do well!
The Ref cards only has 2x8 pins, so they don't have much left in the tank especially the 7900xtx as each pin is 150w plus 75w slot power. Most AIB cards to come with be 3x8 pins But you might get more out these cards by undervolting
The card being slightly ahead of the 4080 in Timespy gives me hope that AMD cards will get better with newer drivers. They tend to do that. Its also great to see that the high end models cap at 1000$. I think AMD could become the new "Budget" King If we see a 700$ 7800XT and so on.
Hope? AMD always ages like wine with drivers whereas Nvidia stays almost the same. 6800 XT beats RTX 3080 now pretty much in every game because of mature drivers.
@@Ardonn Since AMD went to single pipeline design from RDNA on there will be no more major improvements in the long term like there were with their older GPUs. I don't know where you get your info from but Passmark and Techpowerup database still show 6800XT as being 3% slower on average than 3080.
@@Mike-dd8bd I had some issues with my 6800XT too. They also didnt fix them with driver updates. But since I updated my BIOS they are all gone. She runs smooth now.
I think I'm going with the XTX, it's basically what I was expecting and I'm not disappointed. The only thing i was expecting different is higher difference from the 6950XT
Where is the 1.5-1.7x times performance over the previous generation!!? What lies! The AMD fanatics were saying it'll challenge the 4090. It barely scrapes by against 4080 in raster. In RT, it's a blood bath. Lol. Rtx 4080 is surely overpriced but if nvidia lower it's price to rx 7900xtx, it's an easy win for nvidia.
@@Hokie2k11 I agree on the rt view. Personally I like the reference design and I will not pay an extra for a custom card because at that point it's too close to the 4080
There’s so much Phil love in these comments. What a great long term community Jay has! I’m biased because we Phil’s have to stick together ;) rock on brotha!!
I have 7900xt, the xtx and 4080, ended up sticking with 7900xt if you pair this with Ryzen 9 7900x cpu and some DDR5 at 6000 everything works fantastic and performance is top shelf while still having the ability to put it in small case
Great Job Phil and can't wait to see the 7800XT/XTX or w/e its called because that's the one that interest me and as for Nvidia the 60 class card with a Dual Encoder would also be nice as a second PC streaming machine
Would have been nice to see a previous Gen RTX in there, like 3080 vanilla for reference (and also because that's what I'd be upgrading from) lol. Great video, thank you.
I think with future driver releases, these cards will definitely gain some improvements. Phil you did great on this review. We gotta have a PhilzTwoCents channel ;c)
I could care less if Nvidia is faster. the AMD cards are fast enough for my needs and I would never notice the difference. For me, there is no such thing as being behind Nvidia as I don't care. Both GPU makers make top end cards, spending money for nothing more than petty bragging rights is being a simp if you ask me.
This is about what I was expecting, so I'm happy with these numbers. The one thing that I'm really interested in is isolated RT perf vs the RTX 3xxx series to see how the second gen for both compares
It would be interesting to see some of these benchmarks redone after say 4-6 months after launch to see how much (if any) they improve with game patches and driver updates. AMD's last gen of cards got some pretty nice performance boosts later in their life with optimisations so I'd like to think we'll see a similar story with this gen too.
Happens everytime like the 6700xt was kinda garbage at release but I mean now it's really after all the driver updates. Same goes for the 5k series cards aswell when they came out
Two huge factors to consider as well. 1) Drivers optimization in coming weeks 2) Would you rather risk your GPU melting and then going through all the process and hassle of replacing? Even "IF" nVidia provides replacement with no questions asked to begin with!
As an old videographer/journalist I appreciate your production values as well as your candor. The choice of music background made it easy to absorb the information I needed. Beats hollow room tone and annoying chatter by a country mile. Thank you.
Great job with the review Phil. I'm interested in how well this ages as AMD cards tent to actually get better performance as time goes on I here from LTT. So the fact it is slightly behind or at a tie with 3080 may change with time. Good to hear, and this is pretty much what I wanted to hear.
I don't necessarily care about the high end but they tend to be bell-weathers for the rest of the line-ups... VERY curious about the 4070 vs 7800xt... will it just be another $100 discount off the 7900xt with another minor cut to the performance? Will we get the single most linear line-up ever? Stay tuned to find out!!
first off, great job phil! second, jays input was invaluable this review XD, seems like AMD knew what kind of performance they had, and priced strategically accordingly. Seems like a pretty decent generation.
Great job, Phil. I don't have any need for this generation as I just bought a 30 series, but I would totally buy a 7900XTX over a 4080. I am hoping at some point AMD can put something into place that will battle the Ti or 90 series.
Great job Phil! Both a probably outside what I want to spend on a GPU. However, the XT honestly surprised me. Yeah the RT is still a long way from Nvidia, but everything else is on the heels of the 4080. Hard to call a $900 card a value, but it seems like the XT might be.
For the lower power draw with enough speed on 1440p , I'd go with the 7900 XT - there's issues with power draw on multiple monitors but it'll be fixed. But hard to make that call when 6800 XT is ~$300 less - sure, the new system is about 25% more efficient, but it's not like you'll actually save power, you'll just get more frames - perhaps more than you can use unless RT is involved; and in that case, is it good enough?
Very cool to see Phill on the other side of the camera. That said it would have been nice to see the 3000 series cards in the graphs as they are still an option.
Very nice review I like the presentation a lot. As for the 7900XTX, it may not be the $1,000 RTX4090 killer that all of the desperates were hoping it to be but its' performance is very impressive IMO and it's competing where AMD was aiming. So I think I'm going to stick to my path of saving for one. But either be it a new RTX 4000 Series card or a new RX 7000 Series card I still have to buy a new power supply anyway. Mine isn't adequate enough for even running my system properly as there's not enough hookups. So that's the goal first. :)
I disagree, they are bad cards all around. They are NOT at MSRP at all, even when they were in stock and apparently they are going up by 100 each after this first stock all clears up. Nvm the driver issues... If I am spending 1100 on a card... I want it to be a good experience not buggy and annoying and get slowly fixed as time goes on, nvm that the RT is behind and that's where the industry is heading no matter what anyone says. So the 4080 is somehow a better deal... and that's not a good thing as that card is grossly overpriced Anyone stuck on something like the 5000 or below get the 6000 series now as they are great for the price rn. Or try hunt a 3000 down.
@@lilpain1997 EVERYTHING is over priced. The RTX 30 Series is still stuck at the MSRP it should have been two years ago and is trying to call it a sale. They're an awful value regardless of which model you get. The 3090Ti still goes for the price of an RTX 4090. The RX 6000 cards aren't any better as the 6950XT is still going for $800 or more. For a two year old card they should be going for $600 as far as I'm concerned. But it's not going to happen. Even the cheaper models aren't a deal because at the end of the day they aren't much better than what I already have. You're also sniffing something if you think the 4080 is the better deal just because it can do RT slightly better. If I'm going to pay big money just for Ray Tracing I'm going to skip the 4080 and just go with a 4090 instead. If I'm going to over pay for something why half-ass it and buy the stepping stone that leads to the city when I can buy the city itself?
@@Slane583 You can actually get the 4080 at MSRP and the 4090 is not in stock/well over MSRP so yes... again. The 4080 is a better deal than the 7900xtx. I never even said it was good either lmao, I just said why would anyone buy a 7900xtx over it when the cards are far closer in price than just 1000 vs 1300. The lowest RX 7900xtx here is 1100 and thats reference, while the 4080 is 1200 here. Buying a 4090 at MSRP beats both of them but no... paying over 2000 for it is stupid. Either card is shit for price. For the 6000 series most missed the time to get one at well under MSRP. Most haven been bought up thanks this shitty gen giving us shit price to performance
@@lilpain1997 The 7900XTX is being sold here on NewEgg at it's stated $1,000 MSRP for both reference and for some AIB models. All of the nicer AIB models are at $1,100.00 with the exception of the ASRock Aqua which is $1,450 because it has a water block on it. But price doesn't matter as neither are in stock. The offerings for the 4080 that aren't sold out are going for $1,400. So it's price is still worse than the 7900XTX. And no, Ray Tracing doesn't make it a better buy. The 4090 on the other hand all models are sold out. It doesn't matter if it is MSRP or even one at $2,000 they are all out of stock. With the exception of third-party cards that are going for $2,500. Those are still in stock.
@@_Clivey the 7900XTX is still cheaper and ~7% faster at rasterization, how is this a NVIDIA win at all Lmfao. Imagine defending insane pricing from NVIDIA
@@spence8920 DLSS, DLDSR, CUDA, lower temps, more efficient, 20% better at RT for $100. Honestly i don't understand why we're focusing on comparing rasterization and not RT performance on 1k gpus. If you're not interested in RT just don't buy this gen gpus at all, and go for 30/6000 series.
Phil, You did a great job man, enjoyed your presentation. I like the total FPS that Green team gives, but have to really appreciate the size and power draw to performance from team Red also.
Phil great job, and you made some good points in comparison to team green. I also think people get stuck on benchmarks rather than actual game play. Plus, amd did promise even better performance when paired with their own cpus. I also noticed the red devil being so close to the 7900xtx, which means board partners have room to improve. Nvidia didn't leave much room at all so no incentive exists for a company to sink millions into RandD only to make a few bucks profit. Again great job, do it more!
This was fantastic guys!! A better video refresh than a 6650 XT! (wow, I reached really hard for that) Phil, you did freaking awesome! Love the transparency as well, before we're even two minutes in, you're reminding everyone to not trust one single reviewer or benchmark set, but to look at them ALL. (Definitely gotta do that nowadays with these massive dies and board partners) Phil you were super fluid and if your goal was to make it seem like you've always been doing this, mission accomplished! (Jay's typical role in videos that is) Edit: I hate to say that I am, unfortunately, disappointed, but I'm trying to view this in the big picture that Phil tried to illustrate. (the market dynamics, price points, use-case scenarios etc) My fault for feeling that way, since I was REALLY crossing my fingers that the new 7000 Series would BEAT at least SOME of the 4080 marks. But what AMD is doing here makes me pretty excited. Where will we be 5 years from now? 750w draws? Or an increased focus on power/efficiency? Will we ever see dual slots again?
It will be! but at a distance for me this time! I just went through that with the 6800xt for a year and a half. Yea its badass now but the journey here was long and arduous. Including a span from Nov 21 - July 22 of them leaving a crucial VR codec broken so it was a choice of stay on Nov driver for VR or Get the new DX11/RT updates for all the other games you play....From a distance this time! Getting a 4080 instead.
You know what? I love it, definetly give Phil more space this way. Just as Linus is doing with LTT. Great job Phil!
I swear, I watch just to hear Phil laugh haha.

I get that GPUs performance going up every year, but why power consumption? Especially Scamvidia power consumption 450watt. 2022 tech still garbage?
@@fynkozari9271 Not an expert but this what I know from my experience and research:
Each new generation of GPUs and their architectures make changes in the number of compute units and cores resulting in bigger die-sizes and power consumption. It's a much linear increase between power and performance than CPUs.
I can't comment on AMD's 7000 series chiplet design but generally more performance requires more power.

Because the XTX has more VRAM, and I play VR flight sims, I will most likely go with Team Red this time. For the first time in a LOOONG time. Will be putting a waterblock on it, though. Hopefully we get some some videos on OC headroom soon! 😉
Edit: Will be building on a new X3D chip when they drop in January...probably a 7900X3D.

I would also like to see if using an Intel Cpu or an AMD Cpu makes any difference :D
built a 7950x ddr5 and a 13900k dd4 in the last month the 7950x is throttling a 3090 more than the 13900k for sure and this will be worse with the 7900 or 4000s that said it's very dependant on games and how they use the cpu, on DX12 and vulkan (recent) games AMD wins obviously but on DX11 (the majority of games) intel is noticeably faster and those DX11 or older games are the ones bottlenecked by the cpu because they don't use all the cores, you can have visual confirmation with 3dmark cpu overhead bench, this benchmark shows what anyone who had the two brands running side by side knows, reviewers dropped it because it's unsupported and not very reliable sometimes you get weird results and have to relaunch but it has never been more relevant than 2022
@@fredEVOIX No decent new game ships with only dx11 tho so intel is in a losing battle.

Switching to AMD has been on of the best decisions I’ve made in the past.
Price performance ratio is way better with amd.

I went team red and I'm not going back.
A video about CPU bottlenecks would be great. Also great job Phil.
It's not that hard to understand, there are many vdos on it already. but basically, if your GPU isn't working at 99%+ then theres a bottleneck.
@@hrod9393 how do you tell that the gpu is not working 99% thus bottleneck?
@@lol3ndir Because the utilization is not 99%. Certain programs show you how much of the GPU is being used. For example task manager in Windows.
Agreed we need to see how the new AMD CPU/GPU matching work
yip yip ... SAM !
amd gpus have over 2.5x the fp 64 of nivida gpus, what used to do that Floating Point 64 was the cpu unless you have a $10,000 nivda gpu or volta because they disable a big amount of those cores to consumer.

Rule of thumb 12900k minimum with ddr5 Intel and then 5800 x 3d maybe but better off with new AMD.

Phil is going to have to host more often now. Did a great job!
BUT, then again, I do take one peep at those TDPs an I'm all like
>355w
Yeah no.
At end of the day though...$1600 for a 4080 that won't fit in your case and catches on fire fucking lol
It's still the better buy even with the worse performance.

With how Radeons recent releases have gone, I wouldn't be surprised if it makes substantial leaps and bounds as the drivers are tuned too
For the lower power draw with enough speed on 1440p , I'd go with the 7900 XT - there's issues with power draw on multiple monitors but it'll be fixed.
When not as fast, and slightly cheaper are the plus points.
GPUs are a joke.
So the 4080 is somehow a better deal... and that's not a good thing as that card is grossly overpriced
Anyone stuck on something like the 5000 or below get the 6000 series now as they are great for the price rn.
I always love to see Phil in the scene. Another great video
So, we changing the channel to PhillzTwoCents now? Well done man. I really enjoyed how you presented the review.
(wow, I reached really hard for that)
Phil, you did freaking awesome! Love the transparency as well, before we're even two minutes in, you're reminding everyone to not trust one single reviewer or benchmark set, but to look at them ALL. (Definitely gotta do that nowadays with these massive dies and board partners)
Phil you were super fluid and if your goal was to make it seem like you've always been doing this, mission accomplished! (Jay's typical role in videos that is)
Edit: I hate to say that I am, unfortunately, disappointed, but I'm trying to view this in the big picture that Phil tried to illustrate.
Will be interesting to see how the 7900xtx performs after 6 to 12 months of driver updates. Considering what happen to the 6950 xt
It will be! but at a distance for me this time!
Wish I could be that comfortable just jumping in front of a camera with 3.8m subs! Good job Phil!!!
