Not very commercial stuff in the age of over-hyped pop music, but there is no substitute for talent. This is just so damn good, and I am very thankful for it. Beautiful music, played with feeling and style.

Wow! Amazing. I wish my Father was still around to hear you guys. My Dad loved the Hot Cub of France, I was just a kid in the ‘50’s when he would play their music on the old 78 record record player in our living room. Well done gentlemen.👍👍
We are probably close to the same generation. I recall my dad playing guitar & singing after dinner during that period. Sometimes a few friends would visit with their guitars, mandolins. Before TV there was a lot of that type of socializing. People have always needed that but right after WWII they needed it more.
Sounds like kids all over the world had fathers with the same taste in music. Early 60's this is the music that was played in our house too. Dad and his mates used to jam in the living room with guitar violin and harmonica. I loved it. Wish he could hear this..👍❤
Most know Richard Smith a Thumbpicker. He is one of the best! I heard him as a 12 yr old getting on stage with the Great Chet Adkins. He was already a wonderful guitar Thumbpicker.
I saw Richard with his brothers at Croydon Town Hall library about 25 years ago, I was amazed by his talent then and still am (the whole band is incredible of course). Thank you for such wonderful music. Richard's Lullaby for Madeleine is one of my favourite songs. Thanks
So dang classy and beautiful!! I love this stuff, man. These guys seem like they grew up playing music around camp fires with some intense love and dedication making that camp fire music really sing. Gosh... I love, love this stuff. It hits me just right. Thank you, guys!!
Richard's hero Chet Atkins and Chet's 'mentor' Merle (16 Tons) Travis did the duet version that stays with you a lifetime -- in my mind's ear I can hear every lick. And you KNOW Richard is 'channeling Chet' -- down there, in the second-most musical nation on earth. As you say, Justin Tyme "Absolutely amazing."
Richard is so technically amazing, as a guitarist, his right hand work is just flawless! Makes it look easy.... but if you've ever tried it, it's not!!! Bravo, Richard! Saw him at a house concert earlier this year, the man is one of the finest fingerstyle players I've ever, ever seen! Just mind-blowing ability!
Sorry, but I disagree with your opinion. I think he is very good guitarist but the guy on his right (left, as you look at the screen)-I believe his name is Bina Coquet is a category better....His fingers are faster and his plucking is right on time, where Rich has few near misses and he is late. Rich might be famous, but Bina is unmistakably better.....I just have to add, that in any case, it is a beautiful show and guitar playing, no mistake about it! I love it! Didn't want to make negative impression...
Just so Ed, Just so. RS from England too. Who would have thought that? That Django - Grappelli influence is in there too. And CA - MT - What about me? Not a faint chance. I lie beaten not even on the battle-field. The world can be so cruel.
Why I instantly have springs under my feet when I hear you play and I laugh like an idiot, in my opinion it is by the happiness of listening to you and that you will transmit. Thank you guys for this moment of happiness I really needed it.
Among the living: England/Scotland's Martin Taylor; Australia's Tommy Emmanuel. Both recorded with their hero Chet Atkins. And Doyle Dykes -- the lone guitarist asked to play at Chet's memorial service at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium. Asked late in life if there was someone he would pay money to see, Chet replied, "Oh, someone like Doyle Dykes." But I agree with you, one Mark to another, Mr. Slater. Mr. Smith is right up there with them -- and a joy to watch. Oh and if you haven't seen Walter Rodrigues Jr (his UA-cam videos have been viewed by millions) you are in for a treat. In his own way, this Brazilian born American is the best of them all -- with arrangements Chet would have loved. You will too, I promise -- or double your money back. -- Mark B of Winnipeg Canada -- home of Lenny Breau. Chet told me in a 1971 interview that Lenny is "the greatest guitarist in the world."
Fantastic! Loved the transition from the Chet Atkins style into the Gypsy Jazz. 'I'll See You In My Dreams' is one of my favorite songs & this version is brilliant; bravo & thanks very much! 👏👏👏
Chet Atkins' unique style was very much influenced by Django Reinhardt. Aside from Merle Travis, Chet named Django as his main influence, and said Django Reinhardt was the most influential guitarist who ever lived. In his early years before he was a star, Chet Atkins had trouble keeping jobs at country radio stations. They said his music sounded like gypsy jazz, not American country.
I love playing my guitars, but every now and then I have to put them down and let them hear something like this, so they know how they are supposed to sound when they are played with much greater skill than I can currently muster. Keep playing gentlemen, the world needs you. Thank you for giving my guitars hope and a sense of higher aspirations of what one day they might sound like.
What a note perfect appreciation. Thanks for your comment, Rev.Bro Chris L. Really, the best such comment I have ever read at UA-cam. You said it all, in so few wonderful words. A propos nothing but great melodies, great lyrics and great renditions, I have a thread of that name at the world's biggest website for musicians Harmony Central in their songwriting folder. Something tells me you might appreciate. Mr. Smith too, if he sees this! God bless. www.harmonycentral.com/forums/topic/1940624-great-melody-great-lyric-great-rendition/page/12/#comments
p.s. I helped arrange Doyle Dykes' first visit to Winnipeg Canada, two Octobers ago. He was scheduled to play 90 minutes at our store Quest that carries his signature model acoustic-electric guitars by Godin of Quebec (now the world's largest exporter of quality guitars). He played for three hours. He must have made a mistake, but I didn't hear it. Before his performance for about 50 (guitarists) including my son and grandson, I spoke with him and said, "Your Dad and mine died the same year; bet your father like mine, loved 'The Poor People of Paris'." (circa 1958). At the end of the show, when he inscribed my Godin-made La Patrie classical instrument, I offered him my Gibson (Northern) Southern Jumbo, hand made by Gibson's other greatest luthier Ren Ferguson. "He made my Guild signature model," said Mr. Dykes, and then, with a smile, looking me in the eye, he played the first few bars of THE POOR PEOPLE OF PARIS. Talk about 'straight to the heart' and, incidentally -- Boy did my Gibson Girl sound good in Doyle's hands!

I wish they were all playing down the block tomorrow night in Santa Cruz at the Kuumba Jazz Center!!
