So we’re all sitting there. Waiting. I don’t remember when I got these tickets and who gave them to me, but I’m expecting something special. Suddenly, this guy walks in. Just a guy. He’s clearly in his fifties and he’s enjoyed the good things in life. But still, just a guy. You might not even have seen him if he hadn’t bumped in to you. Looks like any dad, on his way to the fishing gear section. Or maybe getting a quart of blinker fluid for the ol’ Chevy. But no, he walks on to the stage, and sits down. Then he tucks a guitar under his armpit and plugs it in. He says something but I don’t listen. And suddenly, there’s nothing… nothing but music. Straight from heaven. The room is filled with it. I am filled with it. I’m dumbstruck. So much that when he says “I’m Richard Smith” I forget to applaud. Later, back home, still dazed and awestruck, I look at my guitar, hanging on the wall, and whisper to her: “you should be so lucky.”
when I first heard him on UA-cam I wrote to tell him that my ass was black and blue after I fell off my chair when I first saw him play. Earlier this year I was lucky enough to meet him. Great man!
Even the way he tunes the guitar is incredible... turns the pegs then not even bothering to try a chord before playing... plays. Perfect tuning. Gifted beyond measure. Incomparable musician.
I’m a retired electrician who can’t twist wirenuts anymore ,drop screws , and struggle to start a nut even when looking at it. I’m glad someone saved their fingers for this great contribution to society. Thanks!
Saw "The Richard Smith Guitar Trio" as was then in St Ives, Cornwall, U.K about 20 years ago - his two brothers were pretty good too making up the trio - still got the CD - fantastic. Still fantastic
I dont know who is the finest acoustic guitarist on the planet but Richard is in the top tier along with Tommy Emmanuel......Fantastic performance. What a gift to have the ability to play an instrument that is one of the easiest to learn, but the hardest to master.
I took it to be written by Jerry Reed, apparently no, as Richard tells us here, it's rather by John Knowles (CGP ;). So much in synch with Jerry Reed, though, and his performace of it is mesmerizing at any rate.
Richard is amazing--I hit the LIKE button, but on my screen, the Thumbs Up icon isn't visible...only the Thumbs Down, making it appear that the 173 Likes are Dislikes!
Bravo je trouve que c’est un artiste Pas mal le fun à suivre C’est très plaisant de l’accompagner Chez moi Assis au drum et la trompette dans les mains❤️
Yes, of course he owes a lot to Messrs. Atkins & Reed, but IMHO he has well and truly eclipsed them. Some of his intricate work is up there with the top classical and jazz players. He has a very friendly, affable style of presentation as well. Nashville's gain is England's loss!
Too much time is spent changing the tuning of the guitar between songs. Would be nice if Richard or you could enlighten us on what he is doing all this time. That is, what is the final tuning, for example E-A-D-G--B- E (Standard tuning), on each song. Thank for posting this lovely video though.

Hours and hours of hard practice. Yes he is gifted, but remember all these guys practice all day long for years and years
He's more than a world class guitar player, he's also a great entertainer. And he can sing as well.

Rare performance of a rare song, Phantom of the Opry, by the matchless Jerry Reed, min. 28.

❤
number one absolute. No one has his touch. Sorry for Tommy Emmanuel - whom I love so much - but Richard for me is the number one.
Ah!... Look at all the lonely people!
Is that a Kirk Sand guitar?
7:23 reminder to grab lick
CHOP CITY !!!!!!!
Question. What guitar are you play?
Richard plays a Kirk Sand standard acoustic-electric nylon-string, but modified to include a sound hole.
very difficult different play like perfect and full of surprises original guitarist.wachout Emanuel.just kidding
This song is a very romantic one. It's not about japanese food.
When I'm 64, at 18:30.

Smoke a blunt and watch his right hand. You're welcome.
