Ode to Venom Snake | Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain Tribute (+ Character Analysis)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 лип 2016
- A tribute to Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain's Venom Snake. This video was based on various interpretations of the character found on the internet and, in short, views Venom Snake not just as Big Boss' stand-in, but also as a representation of his phantom values and virtues such as comradery and compassion, which Big Boss has arguably lost in his long struggle (he among other things deceives Kaz and appears to have no issue in letting Venom take the heat while he works in secrecy). In this way, Big Boss has truly become a villain and is not just a tragic hero. Venom Snake then mostly resembles Naked Snake in Metal Gear Solid 3; they are both used as pawns in a larger political game and are both left betrayed at the end (we know that Venom Snake gets killed by Solid Snake, who was sent by Big Boss). Also, at the end of Metal Gear Solid 4, Big Boss denounces most of his actions and seems to recognize he had become that which he fought against for so long (also check out my previous video that addresses this; • Where We're Going | Th... ).
Anyways, I’m not arguing this is the best interpretation of Metal Gear Solid 5, but it’s just the interpretation I went with. Hope you enjoy.

"You're all diamonds" I'M NOT CRYING I'M JUST SWEATING OUT OF MY EYES
Dude I cried when I first saw it. It's all good brother.
We are diamond dogs. 😁
Yes. We are diamond dogs.
Comrades, i cried too.
We are diamond dogs.
Venom Snake was loyal to the end. Truly worthy of the title of Boss.
The real boss: hey liquid lets visit uncle venom.
Liquid:noooooooo
was looking for people who liked venom snake and mgs v, looks like i found home :)
this video, is perfectly what the character deserved thx man !!!
Same here.
You said it❤😁
Venom Snake is the greatest of all code named Snakes. He carried the sins of big boss. He became a demon for the prick. And became a phantom forever in pain.
I know right? He wasn't born into it either he was forged through war just like big boss too. Which makes him becoming a snake a bit more authentic 🤔?
and while he could not save eli and the kids he managed to save david
@@selemanecuDavid was at foster homes I imagine which would make him pretty far away from venom and Ellie.
To everyone who said this game has a weak story...Venom Snake IS the story. What an amazing character.
so venom represents the part of bb that was loyal to the end like the boss did .......
Beautiful.
Bb?
@@omkarshinde1628 bb stands for big boss
@@ladyshadow117 in 2 months I studied metal gear solid franchise 👍
@@omkarshinde1628 that’s good I was only replied since no else did
Venom snake is a real hero. He deserved a better life. He was the best hero next to big boss. Sad that he didn't know who he was until the end
This game was a pure masterpiece that not everyone understood
Staright 100/10 from me🔥🔥🔥
Yes you need a knowledge for this game to understand
Because many those who haven't played a game doesn't know anything about metal gear and the meaning behind
It's not perfect, but it's misunderstood. I think the problem that game is not finished and it's not most important part in history of metal gear. And many people didn't play previous games
I did and I'm thankful for it
Thank you my friend.
From here on out, you’re Big Boss.
Big Boss! - he makes a military salute and he would release a tear in his right eye-
Rest in peace
I am you and you are me
i want to hug you my friend, you deserve it...but then you will do CQC on me, so...i rather salute you from the distance :)
very touching i love it, i feel venom snake more tragic character than solid snake or raiden :(
The most tragic was Solid Snake (Old snake brake my heart ) :´(
@@alejandro6404venom snake was called punished for a reason his whole life was following orders to the very end which didn’t turn right for him but he noticed that and didn’t cared also MSF soldiers would possibly have a very tragic past as well even tragic then big boss himself which they join MSF to finally understand true meaning of life and solid snake managed to live outside of war and lived happily ever after with a peaceful death also big boss died in a peaceful death finally realising the bosses wishes and finally made peace with his clone , a pretty good ending for him, it was not just him who had accelerated aging it was liquid as well if he survived , all snakes were tragic not just solid snake.
@@cantsuggestareasonablename9101
I believe Venom Snake is the real big boss ... big boss of the metal gear solid 4 must be a fake one.
@@alejandro6404 An interesting theory .
if you think about it this medic was put through the same/similar events.
he went through his own sort of S3 program like raiden did mirror solid, how solid eventually did the same as big boss. they all faced what they thought was impossible at the time.
their actions made them into the legends they are and to think a medic of big boss' had to go through all of this to be given the code name "snake" makes me appreciate the character more.
big boss trusted him to carry out this mission, big boss trusted him with his legacy, and his very face.
I love the message "I'm big boss...and now you are too. "
hideo made all this and we grew with him so it could also be saying we....the fans...are big boss right along with kojima....
I did feel a little down not seeing the real big boss' downward spiral into a villain but as time passes I respect Venom's sacrifice.
he gave up his country when he joined MSF. he became family with those men shedding his previous life, then again he had to sacrifice his identity (until the hypnosis ends with the truth message) and even after learning he helps big boss by continuing down the path given to him.
it's all
opinion of course and while I wish kojima got to finish the game how he wanted- I think venom was a great character.
I am making a video currently saying metal gear solid 6 should take place along same time as V but as big boss #2. Alot of events story wise happen in this time line such as all of outer heaven and its cast being formed and many mgs world events that happened off screen. Instead of Miller and ocelot telling us what to do, would be interested what other characters could show up. Sniper wolf, gray fox, petrovich, elen, shot maker, fire trooper, machine gun kid, Coward duck, Bloody Brad, the TX-11s(robot/androids), Sneider(Black Ninja), Running man, Red Blaster, The four horsemen(Ultra Box), Jungle Evil(Predator), Night sight, and any new characters they would want to introduce. Would be great to add depth to these characters and any new ones they would want to introduce
@@DayZeroGaming hey. It's brandon. This is my gaming channel. So sorry I didn't see your message until now. I an legally blind and don't always catch all my messages.
I'd LOVE to see those characters fleshed out more. I'm gonna sub to your channel. I love your idea.
5 years late but what did The Boss say, she said something "Loyality till the end, loyality to your country or me?"
@@DayZeroGaming Basically building up the other outer haven recruits. would it switch with actual Jack/BB and the medic? Recruiting the member sending them between fox hound ect
@@wb7585 Better late than never friend. I"m so glad to connect with people on here about MGS. It is always going to be important to me. One of the ONLY games my father likes too. (He's not really a gamer.) but the big boss/ Solid snake relationship hit hard with us.
Venom Snake is the true hero of Metal Gear.
That's a stretch bro. I think Big Boss and Venom are the true heroes, both overlooked and described as warlords and terrorists. but in fact, they teamed up to free the world from the grasp of the patriots who wanted to control all communication and nearly succeeded in MGS4
@@beckeras8848 what makes this series so epic and there alot of people who dont or cant grasp the story its really deep what makes kojima a master of his trade wish they would let him pick up the series again and make more lol.
@Brett Yarborough ocelot then is the true hero is the series..he has been around since the real big boss and took it upon himself to be the scum of the planet to actually save it..solid is a simple guy. He's wise, chill and pretty entertaining but venom's and bigboss's ideology was simply another level NGL
@Brett Yarborough I still am confused if zero is a good guy or not lol
YEAHHHH
Big Boss did to Venom exactly what the government did to him back in MGS3
Thank you, someone said it. Jeez.
Bigbrother3465 I concur.
Yet the strange thing is that Venom back then was loyal to Big Boss, and one of the few soldiers to be named as his successor before the MSF incident. Once he find out the truth, despite that piece on his head, the hallucinations, and the confusion, that smirk he made shows that as an MSF soldier, he was honored to be part of Big Boss's plan. His loyalty remained strong even on the last day before facing Solid Snake.
Sure we viewed Big Boss as a traitor, which is the intention as players, however don't forget that many, many others did it to him as well (Huey, Kaz, Paz, the government, Dr. Clark, Sigint, Zero, and even The Boss in Peace Walker ending number 1 when he felt that she betrayed herself as soldier at the time) and it's his way of saying "enough". Granted he later learned of her purpose late in MGS4.
Still, it does feel bad that Venom has to been thrown in there unknowingly pretending to be Big Boss when others wanted his head thinking he was the real Big Boss. Although Solid Snake's question does make a point MGS4 before V was made in which he asked Big Boss as how he can still be alive. Like he was thrown in the fire by Vamp (it was Solidus), seemingly dead in MG2, and exploded (or riddled with bullets) in MG1.
Speaking of Solidus, they used him as "Big Boss" as well in MGS4.
Exactly. And while I hate him for doing that, I can see how it was his character development. He did not want to be like the others who betrayed him. But he wasn't strong enough to keep it together with all the circumstances. And that exactly what makes Solid exceptional and better than Big Boss. Solid succed when Big Boss failed. Solid found his own ways and always fought for what he believed was right. And he succesfully passed his legacy onto Raiden.
i view big boss as a legend , and in the end of phantom pain i assumed that venom accepted to carry the name of big boss to protect the real one, he fought because he believed in outer heaven and he wanted to make the dream of the boss and big boss true. And i look at big boss as just a name not a caracther anymore, like anyone can be big boss and i think thats the message they tried to pass to us in the phantom pain (its my opinion if you have a diferent one pls dont judge me xD )
You guy's all know that the idea for the phantom didn't come from Big Boss right? It was a plan from Zero and ocelot. Sure Big Boss did know when he woke up and ocelot told him the plan, but big boss saved the phantom/medic from quite, during the hospital mission. Instead off letting him dye so BB could escape the hospital during the chaos, which was the original plan.
Venom snake is the real big boss I love his character
Mikes Belts venom is the second the boss
They're both Big Boss. Naked is the Big Boss of lore, the ultimate soldier, Venom is the Big Boss of the Shadows, taking Naked's dream and helping turn it into a reality. Venom is Big Boss, Naked is Big Boss, Both of them are Big Boss. Both of them are Snake.
No, I came to realize that . . . the real big boss is the legend that we aspire to be. We are Venom Snake, we are the best soldier that had to keep the world together.
remember theres only place for 1 big boss ahahah (rip venom MGS1)
@@rubenbenodiz3388 after cipher, comes one. In this case 1 was the end not the beggining.
Venom was another victim in this long war, what makes his death so sad is that unlike all the other snakes, bosses, his grave is an unmarked one....seriously fuck you big boss you literally became what you despised and created a demon, luckily your son was the better man
jack happ actually i think every mgs main characters are grey, look at the metal gear 1 metal gear 2, solid snake is just a dog of the goverment and after mgs3 big boss just try to win his war with patriots, but he becomes like them, venom snake loses his characterisity for loyalty to big boss and become a demon, a villain. Zero/cipher understands wrong of the boss's philosophy and makes opposite list goes and goes, in mgs everyone is grey (sorry for bad english)
Big Boss running away and leaving me to do his dirty wet work left a bitter taste in my mouth.
Venom is the best, can't change my mind. The dude literally took on a war he wasn't supposed to be a part of. Did what someone else should've done.
Ugh...whenever i see the ending i always think about Venom hatred towards Big Boss. The moment with mirror shows that he realised that Big Boss took his personality, face, name..everything he had. He went through hell because of him, and Big Boss literally did the same thing to Venom, as US government did to Boss. And in the end he has nothing to do, but to accept the only thing that he has-Big Boss identity, and fight with Snake. At least i see it this way. Even if y vision is false, Venom is still one of the greatest and tragic characters in Metal Gear. My favorite out of Snakes.
Venom was the big boss that the world needed. Even though he followed Naked Snakes vision of Outer heaven, I think Venom would’ve truly changed the course of the series if he survived his battle with solid snake. Perhaps he could’ve saved everyone he knew and saved the world from the Patriots so that he can become the hero he wanted to be as well as driving out his demon.
david surviving until the end is him winning!
Honestly if Venom wasn’t just created to be a plot hole fixer I would have loved to see him get revenge on Big Boss
@@marsman676 well there were always inconsistencies in how he was portrayed so yeah Venom explains a lot if you ask me and let's face it the best Vengeance was that he made sure David lived just like the Boss did with Jack. Jack just finishes properly what Venom started while indirectly mentioning him!
@@selemanecu Ha true! I personally think Venom was fed up with Big Boss hence him breaking the mirror. Unfortunately it was too late for anything to be done since that’s right before Solid comes in. What do you think? Ik there are a lot of interpretations of the mirror punch scene?
When I finished Phantom Pain, I was shocked It wasn't the real Big Boss. I sat for a day thinking why... I was in confusion because I wanted to play and see the story of Big Boss. Then I came to realization, Venom Snake was equal or maybe little better than the real Big Boss. He suffered more than the Big Boss in a short time period, sacrificed himself to save the real big boss. Did things the Big Boss himself cannot dare to do. Took matter out by his own hands. And still, when he knew he was just a cover up for Big Boss he continued walking forward. Even Kazuhira sided with The Phantom against Big Boss. Goddamn, he surpassed Big boss at this point.
When Miller known the truth he left Diamond Dogs because he feels betrayed from real Big Boss and he helps Solid Snake kill both Big Bosses
For me Venom snake, is not a villain, but a hero.
Venom was never a villain his whole life was following orders which ultimately cost him his own life.
Venom snake is the best main character
Of the whole franchise
yes
Great video and an awesome tribute to the first man who really understood The Boss Will.
Snake didn't choose to be their leader, his comrades choose him to be their Boss, brother, their Phantom.
Not everyone sees it this way but, to me Venom Snake is the story of a man who gave another his complete loyalty, almost to the point of worship, only to have been betrayed by that man and stripped of all his choices. Big Boss expected a scapegoat and instead got a thorn in his side, one that had to be eliminated
Cue Operation: Intrude N313
I think the story in this game is very underrated
it is not underrated..but not finished :(
It is a masterpiece. It being unfinished is a crime against humanity and if I won the lottery today I would buy this title from konami and release story expansions and hire the crew back and pay them very well in great conditions. I wouldnt care if it turned a profit or not. The profit would be finishing this for the human race.
@@DayZeroGaming unfinished or not its still not good...and i say that as someone who loved how preachy mgs4 got
The only good things about it is Paz and Huey besides that literally nothing happens or develops. It's the most non story I've ever seen. It's baffling.
@@DayZeroGaming you're legend in the eyes of that who played this masterpiece
he is more compassionate to his enemies
Love your enemies as they were there nabors
He is more compassionate to Paz
Venom Is one of the best created character in gaming history. He is the man who was sold to the world, and he played it beautifully like the boss he died an unknown hero. He died doing what naked snake needed him to do. Those who don't like venom did not understand the MGS series.
Am new to mgs and I think mgs fans are far too blinded with nostalgia and big bosses character which they would treat him as a god anyway even if he is not real.
The best tribute of MGS V
This video was based on a rather specific interpretation of Metal Gear Solid 5, read more about it in the description ;) If you have any thoughts or comments, let me know! Also thanks to Sneakingfox and Tacticproductionz for helping me out with some of the cutscenes :)
Your editing skills are amazing, You're pretty good
you re pretty damn good! Can you please tell me wich video editor program did you use to make this magnificent work?
Thanks! I used Sony Vegas Pro 13
Just one more question! can you tell me please how did you eliminate the background noise and music and left ONLY the voice of snake? wich program did you use for that? I'm trying use adobe audition but don't work...
Big BossProductions92 He got it from the audio files of MGSV.
Venom Snake basically is a man that was fooled, but before getting emotional, he himself committed to Big Boss when he joined M.S.F with his life.
Big Boss may have been the smartest and the winner at the end of the game in MGS4, but as a human being he lost big moral keys of his.
Baker Salahat And when he realizes who he was, Venom is still committed to Big Boss like the MSF. Loyalty to the end as The Boss once said.
Venom Snake is truly the one who understood the Boss’ will because he is us. You, me, the true fans who played this knowing full well how it was to play out. #wearebigboss
What the fuck, mad chills throughout this video. No other MGS tribute has done that to me. Excellent, professional work. Venom was a pretty great man before he went mad.
He didn't went mad. Ishmael did, but Ahab stayed good all along. He was fighting for an ideal
TheIronicTea He was too loyal to Big Boss to see his true motives or thought the end justified the means. In MGSV, Metal Gear 1 and all the time in between he fought for his men. That's why he was willing to fight Solid Snake to the death in a fair fight despite being old (unlike Big Boss who chased an unarmed Snake). Killing Snake would have avenged his soldiers but his death helped Big Boss complete his mission.
Explain to me how he went bad in latency terms
he didnt went mad , he was loyal to the jack"real big boss"and he just did what a mad man ordered him to do
Incredible tribute!
Metal Gear Solid (1998) was my favorite game of all time until V came out, & knowing full well this game was not complete, it was still the most amazing gaming experience I've ever had. Venom & Quiet were hands down my favorite characters in the entire series; it's hard to believe it's not Solid Snake anymore. The Quiet Exit mission ending was the best sequence I've ever seen in gaming - what happened was visually perfect & the scene scoring was also perfect. Even the short walk to where Quiet's footprints ended was one of my favorite playable scenes because of the Quiet Exit 'echoes' scoring. Never have I ever had such a connection to a piece of art like this game.
same here, lot of ppl trashed on the game on a superficial level , but if you're sensible enough you can catch what Kojima went for. He ended MGS on the highest note possible.
I love how venom went through similar events to ''become'' big boss like what raiden did in mgs2. History repeating. Except venom really did become big boss ... That soldier did his job.
I love that knife scene and the ashes. He loved his comrades. Tragic character.
Venom snake is the true big Boss of histories
My god this video is AWESOME , you did a great job , thank you for that .
Holy shit I can't even contain my tears
right in the feels
Forever my favorite snake. Ahab deserved so much better.
This video basically shows that even though Venom is Big Boss like the real Big Boss he will always be a better man than the real Big Boss was
“Those were some fancy editing skills though...”

“Your pretty good.”
One of the best gaming tributes I’ve ever seen. First watched it like five/six years ago
Simply amazing.
This is the best Metal Gear Solid 5 tribute I have ever seen!
You sir, have a talent!
Just... beautiful. I absolutely adore this video. Great job! Bravo.
Truly... just truly amazing. good job
Even though i can agree with people one that kiefer should have had more dialogue in the cut-scenes, (but he does talk and make some funny jokes in the cassette tapes) I kinda think that was the point. Venom isn't big boss, nor like solid snake. He doesn't make clever one liners or gives long speeches. If anything a lot off Venom snake is threw his small little facial movements during the scenes. And the little he does have to says like when those two mother base soldiers were fighting in the rain, Venom said something like "this is your family" and that shows us how Venom sees his men, not as tools like Skull face, but as comrades. right before stabbing himself, (BadAss) Also i really dig this style off big boss, in most movies or books whenever a certain person or a "legendary war hero" is on screen, most off the time the person is quite and serious, and barely talks unless he needs to. Because being in war and violence isn't something that would make a man feel like making jokes.
I love MGS and this video remind me why I love it. Thank you very mutch. Please upload more videos like this one.
10/10 almost cried
Best soldier of MSF, One of the Big Bosses best friends, Loyal to the end, Real leader and just good guy. There is one thing in my version of walkthrough that will says for everything...Good luck, Jack.

Nice editing! Good job. good video.
excellent video man
Ocelot: From here on... He.. is Snake.
Big Boss: My very own phantom huh?
Ocelot: Don't worry, he can handle it.
That tells us how Venom Snake is more badass than Big Boss himself.
Venom is a copy of the previous Big boss(The one Ocelot first meet and idolised).
He is turned into a demon by the present Big Boss, who is no longer his past version and is fully comited to war and outer heaven.
Venom was us and we were Big Boss best friend tell the end we were Diamond Dogs.
Not know in the MGS history but instead in his

Damn fine work.
Amazing!!
SneakingFox and TacticProductionz commenting your video man.
Your life is complete.
Punished Venom Snake doomed to become Punished Demon Snake 😢
Your video has transformed my feelings into diamonds.
One of the best MGS V content on YT, WOW !
This is a masterpiece 👌
That was.... Beautiful 😢
"But we are not responsible to judge an enemy." I'm guessing Kojima wrote that one.
The main difference between Venom and Big Boss was that Venom was a medic, saving men when they needed it most, and putting his own life on the line, when you know he could have been working as a lead surgeon in one of the best hospitals in the US. He didn't because to him saving people meant more than anything.
That's why he sees himself as a demon, a monster when he kills. It goes against his true nature. I think when Ocelot and Zero brainwashed him, he actually lost his memories, and his medical experience, and had them overwritten by Snake's experience, but they couldn't change his nature.
I think that's why he acted like Big Boss, but subconsciously rejected and objected to his own actions. Imagine being a prison to your own body, your own mind. I think that's what he breaks in the end, the glass wall separating his true self from Big Boss, and finding his will again.
That ending shot was perfect👏
Big Boss played him like a damn fiddle
Metal Gear.. such greatness
