Showing all of the old girls flaws. Many of you commented on how great it looked and I just HAD to laugh. Then I figured I would shoot a video showing her flaws.
Does the throttle linkage go to the governor arm? Mine was missing a few things I believe. I'm guessing another rod goes from the governor arm to the carburetor....???. I tried to screen shot your video but I couldn't tell how it was routed.
Very good Question Paul! On the LARGE Frame tractors, all implements are compatible for the most part from 1972-1997. But, you'll definitely want to cross reference to be sure. To do that, swing on over to Simpletractors.com and/or Michaelstractors.com and join the groups. Not only are there dozens of Gurus who can answer your questions in a hurry, but the technical and literature available on the sights is an invaluable tool to help in making the right choice. There ARE Exceptions to the implement rule! Vertical Shaft powered large frame tractors may not be compatible with belt or pto driven implements. So keep that in mind. Cheers! Zip~
I believe that the Suburban's were the most reliable garden tractors of the 60's and 70's although they did start to go down hill after the early 70's when they starting putting bigger and bigger engines on the machine that the machine did not need.
@zippovarga first and foremost, hope all is well and that your health is even better. I'm reaching out because I just picked up a 3415h simplicity and it has a blown head gasket. Appears to the the original engine but it's missing the shroud. Do you know what other size brigg engines will fit it, also, do you happen to know the part number for a new head gasket? If this doesn't work out, I may throw my spare from my simplicity 7010 in it and rebuild the original one later on. Thank you in advance and stay blessed my friend.
It's the same vintage as that green Simplicity you were looking at Charles. It is a strong machine. My first Hydro and I let it sit for over a year and a half and I was very close to taking it to the scrap yard! I'm glad I had a change of heart. Hang in there Charles! One will come your way one day.
ive got a simplicity sovergen 18 hp and am having trouble getting the sheild off the back of the motor to access the magnito to find the problem of not sparking , it's a 70, or 71 model do you have one to video doing that , or any help?
The engine has to come out in order to inspect the Magneto. It's not a big job and shouldn't take any more than an hour to pull the engine. I've got videos in real time showing this process. Just search Engine Removal on my channels home page. Zip~
I have had a number of them here through the mid West. They are still plentiful if you have a good eye for the yellow hidden in the brush. Good luck on your quest!
I hear ya there....polishing Ugly-Alice would be down right silly, but my old Landlord and old B-10.....yeah, I'll spruce them up on a fairly regular basis.
1973 was the first year for this body style and they kept it pretty much through the mid 1990s. Parts are readily available. Congrats on your new machine!
They are what keeps me sane Shaun! You wouldn't want to be the reason I wound up in a nut house now would you??? lol...Don't answer that! hehe. Thanks for commenting my friend!
I'm the type to tell it like it is when someone gives me a price that is WAY more than an item is worth. First I wish them good luck in finding the "sucker" stupid enough to pay your price, then I tell them to pack lightly for their trip to hell for pulling the wool over peoples eyes for their own profit. I've been kicked off peoples property for telling it like it is. No loss on my part and if my words hit home and gets them to feeling guilty, then someone gets a better deal.
Heya Kidd! I hear ya on the looks. I'm sorta anal about things being clean. Helps me see new problems like seal leaks and stuff like that. Only problem there is, when I clean 4 decades of grease and grime off, I often create leaks that the grime was holding in...lol. Those light pods are up and down on ebay right now. Where the money stays constant is with the original lights!!! They are holding strong at 25 bucks a pop for good used ones. That's why I "made" my own!!! $3.99 a bulb!!
@whitehd01 I like the older models with no running boards, but this 3416H IS a work horse. Thanks for the encouragement with the old girl. Still not sure what her fate is going to be. Right now she's just taking up shop space...lol. Cheers!!
Hi Zippo! I have a question, where did you find headlights? I can't find any for my simplicity 3415h (1 year difference) but I thought they didn't make headlights anymore
FB Groups, Simpletractors.com, Michaelstractors.com, other social media groups centered around these machines. Just takes some digging Blue. If you have local garden tractor bone yards, I would start there. Zip~
i just picked up a cub 70 this past week. im kinda growing fond of it, but im still a simplicity guy strait to the bone! nice tractor zippo!! regardless if it has those weird "running board" things, or whatever you call'em!
Hey zippo, I really enjoy your videos! Ok so you say you have a bakers hydro in that? I just picked up the same tractor and its leaking atf out of the small wheel seal like crazy. I got in closer and seen a vickers stamp on the hydro pump. Was wondering how well those hold up? The videos you have were awesome for me to figure out the no spark issue I was having and the leaky up flow carb. Still waiting on my coil. Just like you said. Mice really like living up there! Thanks for all your help!
@ZippoVarga Im glad you had a change of heart too! Would have been crazy to scrap it! Im still hanging in there. Im selling all my tin can tractors mostly, so when one does come up, I have the money to snap it up!
I have an Allis Chalmers 712S with the balance shaft sticking out the front of the Engine. Is it possible to hook up a hydraulic pump for a loader. In the process of welding a FEL.
I've been running mine for around 30+++ years, good workhorse. I have had a few I picked up for parts where the bevel gears are gone in the hydro/implement box. Do you know where to get those gears for less than the $80. each the supliers want? Most people don't understand you can't speedshift from reverse to forward on these or any other hydrostatic, and they junk them out when the bevel gears wear out. Keep up the good work and info.
Really liked the video, that’s a cool tractor. My Grandpa bought one of these new in ‘73 then it went to my Dad and since he passed last year I’ve been trying to get it up and running. It starts well but doesn’t go anywhere when I put it in forward or reverse. The transmission is engaged, I checked the lever on the back. Any idea what might be going on with it?
Low fluid. There is a large catch can under the seat. Take the lock nut off and fill the reservoir to the vent plug, put the cap back on, start the tractor, let it circulate the fluid, then refill. It takes Dextron transmission fluid Troy. Good Luck! Zip~
@ZippoVarga Thats why, when I sell something I ALWAYS say "or best offer" because I don't want to rip anyone off, or get screwed myself. If they offer me less than I asked, and it still sounds fair then its a deal.
Like I always say. "It doesn't have to look pretty, as long as It gets the job done." I would love to get my hands on an old lawn/garden tractor, but for some reason they are hard to come by around here, and the ones that are for sale are either WAY too expensive, or would be better suited in the scrap yard. (and still the person selling it thinks its made of solid gold)
Hi, I have a tractor same model as yours hooked up brand new battery but turned key and nothing happened can you tell me how to start it I don't see a parking brake choked it then turned key am I missing a step??
Hi zippo, I just got one of these for free. It's pretty complete! It cranks but no spark. its now leaking out of the rearend. What's the best way to get the fan cover off to check out the coil? And what's the best way to figure out where the leak is in the rear end? Thank you sir!
hey zippo. i really apprecitate all your tractor vids and was wondering if you could help me. i have and early 70s "i think" 3414h and the seal on the output shaft of the hydro unit blew and pushed all my fluid into the bottom of my gearbox. what i was wondering is if you know where to buy a replacement seal and if there still availible. any help would be great. i got the tractor from my grandfather for 100 bucks and had it running and moving untill this seal blew. its going to be my pulling rig
I just got a Sovereign 3415S that is missing the light pods. Have any more? I am in Indiana also. What is the difference between my 3415S and your 3416H? Mine needs some rebuilding so any info is appreciated.
I didn't say Ivan. I just stockpile it from seats going to the great scrap heap in the sky. I'm sure, if you have a local upholstery shop, that they could locate it for you. My apologies. Zip~
I was just given one of these tractors and was wondering what the age is. It looks just like the one in the video. Are parts still available for this machine?
Not a bad tractor to start with. Just looks like it needs some minor straightening here and there but not bad. I have 2 3416's identical to yours and i like them alot!
She's a work horse, and that's how it should be. As long as a machine works like it should, the looks dont bother me really. Mind you, that siad, if you ever wanted to get rid of the old girl, I think I might know someone who might take it off your hands ;) Sure is a nice old girl though, and those tyres and hub caps looks great
Contact Brenda at Sandylakeimp dott comm and she order you the seal. She's about the most knowledgeable person there is with these older machines. Let her know that Zippo sent you and your tractors has the Vickery hydro and not the Sunstrand, in case she happens to ask. Cheers and good luck!!
Some of those older Cubs are worthy of saving, as are the old Case and yes...even a John Queere....oh...I mean Deere....lol. I wouldn't own a Deere and I've been given a few over the years. They get sold, parted out, melted down for scrap etc. I just don't like them. Now if a Diesel Deere Garden Tractor made its way to me........I would probably keep the engine and put it in one of my Simplicity or Allis'. I still wouldn't keep the green though...lol.
@1965cyclone39 Hey cyclone! Send me a PM with your email addy and I'll send you the owners manual for both the 3416S and 3416H tractors. The differences are great, but they actually operate in the same manner. One is hydraulically powered and the other is operated by way of a maze of belts, pulleys and idlers. Cheers!
@ZippoVarga yea i dont think your family would be to happy if i was the reason you end up in the nut house lol. and anytime for the comment's. more vid's. hope all is well with you man

On the 16 horse engine the synchrobalance gears and weight are on the flywheel side of the engine.
Are all attachments compatible between the vintage (1970s -80s) Simplicity and Allis chalmers garden tractors?

True!!! I think I'll modify the running boards tomorrow...I just can't get used to them! lol

Check my videos for the "wiring made simple" video. If you have questions after watching that, just let me know!!
I was wondering do you have a video on the voltage regulator? How it hooks up and how to check it?
Where did you say to buy seat piping ? Thanks

@CSAKvids By the way, did I tell you about the Broadmoor 721 ( or soemthing like that) Im looking at?
I TOTALLY agree with you on the Cub Cadet joke, especially the ones made since 1981. Complete JUNK.....
