Thanks for the RT review. I can see where these brakes make sense as a possible upgrade option for a person who is a beginner to MTB riding and upgrading a entry level bike. I certainly agree that they are an definite improvement over what most entry level bikes come with! After watching this review and the other brake videos you've done. I am still skeptical of them howver, due to the lack of a real customer support by the manufacturer and retailer(Amazon/Ebay have some very shady sellers) Personally, I went with the Magura MT Thirty brakes for my budget build. Sadly, like everything else they've increased in price from $89 (Aug 2021)to $107 currently. The biggest "bonus" to the whole Magura line up of hydraulic disc brakes(and rim brakes as well) is that the brakes can be used on either side by simply flipping the lever over.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS The Magura brakes don't flip the pads, but the levers themselves. The reservoir itself has a bleed port on both the top and bottom. All you need to do is shorten the hose to fit either the front or rear. It's like 2 meters long on each so you have plenty of hose and they comes with the barb, olive and even a little hose plug to keep the fluid from leaking from the hose when you cut it.
I had a mixed brake lever and caliper combo. I use shimano deore levers attached to meroca m4 calipers. At first I didnt understand how it behaves because my other 4piston brake bites all the way when squeezed. The shimano levers gives me very good modulation on braking. I think in my opinion, braking like an ABS gives you better control than braking hard. It prevents your tires to swerve and crash. Overall, the 1finger deore levers works very well with the meroca m4.
Hi great video as always, try moving your levers further inwards on the bars that way you can 1 finger brake at the end of the lever without catching your knuckle that will work on all longer lever style brakes
Cheers, I don't think bleeding will help, the lever usually starts out soft at the pull then goes hard with pumping them. It's more than likely the pads are cheap, I'd try some shimano metal pads which handle heat better if your bleed doesn't work.
I've read before that for these budget brakes ppl use the DEORE BL-M6100 levers. I do believe so because I can never find them on stock lol. Here is part of the description for those levers "With quicker brake engagement and shorter free stroke, the Shimano Deore BL-M6100 disc brake lever delivers intuitive braking so you can stay focused on the trail ahead"
Stay away from m6100, the reach adjustment effects the power, close rto the var it is, less you can press the piston in the master cylinder, absurd. This is due to servoeave, and not having an adjustment to counteract this, like XT has. I had m615, then m6000, same issue on those. Yongey proper power you have to have the lever all the way out. So unless you have long fingers, you are screwed. So no go for kids, and ppl with short fingers. Stock position is safe, but underpowered. Adjusted for a small child, is a death trap can't stop. I wish there was a law that specified this issue so it was illegal to sell it.
@Johannes Nilsen thanks for the insight on the brake levers. I wanna make sure I understood u clearly, you are saying that the more you bring the levers closer to your bar the more sensitive to pressing them they become?
Those are the same brakes that came on my WolfKing GT pro , they lasted 4 months of heavy braking . My scooter goes 60 mph pretty easy . So for the price they are not bad .
I've mixed the m4 calipers with levers very close to the zooms (blooke) with sinstered (truckerco) pads. I smoked those original m4 pads and new pads made a big diff. Mine are very consistent after burping it after a couple rides.
Sounds great man and thank you for the info. One of our subscribers just emailed saying he was going to send us a pair of pads for those exact brakes too!!
Great review. The MT200s are the only "low end" part of my bike. I have heard using Deore or higher levers drastically improves braking. Thinking of going that route soon. That said, I don't think I would use or recommend these. Hard to trust your brakes if you don't know exactly how they'll bite. Too much cactus and thorny bushes in my neck of the woods to risk overcooking a corner.
I've been using a set of mt-200 since 2020, bought at prepandemic price. They have been good. Surprisingly close in performance to the Deore set on my other bike. Too bad Shimano prices have gone through the roof.
One thing that a shop told me was that its better to swap out rotors if you're using a separate set of brakes to ensure their performance. Sometimes the compounds in the pads differ and that can mess with the rotors.
It's washed out there ... Lol. It's a mudhole here! Sunday was fun! I ended up walking most of the trail here. We have an issue with people trying to build up the berms leaving a mudhole and the 2feet of water in the creek doesn't help either.
According to Srams lastest marketing video, brown discolouration appetently means the brakes are getting hot enough not too hot, but oil slick look means they are overheating. Not in exact words. But yes that makes sense.
I picked these up on Amazon about a week ago and they appear to be shipping with the levers from the 875s, or at least mine did. Amazon listing didn't show this but it was a nice surprise - they do look way less dorky this way.
Great ride man nice trail. Yes in answer to your question bout mixed parts. I bought the mt-420 4 piston and sold the levers and bought the XT handles and it improved the modulation doesn't feel on and off. Very nice. Forgot to add i bought those a year ago and they were quite cheap at the time.
Great review. I was also wondering about switching out the brake levers for a different reach. I was also thinking that if you did a "bleed" to reposition the caliper pistons closer to the rotor for a quicker bite would help. Just a thought to save those knuckles. Ride safe and enjoy.
Hey brother, thank you for the comment. Now we were just talking about the bleed process and may just do that. As for placement....I am not too sure just yet!
You can mix and match Shimano to some degree. My bike came with Shimano MT501 brakes and the rear/RH lever developed a leak and I was able to just swap out the lever to a Shimano Deore (much better). I am actually looking at just swapping out the front caliper to a 4 piston for additional power whenever I need to replace it.
2:11 you should not have the skewer quick release lever at this position, this position makes it very hard to undo it. Always put it facing rearwards. This way you have better leverage and can place your hand behind the lever to open it. Unless you have a DT Swiss skewer, those you can lift and plate at any angle.
I saw Zoom 785 brakes on Amazon. They looked like the same brakes except they had a different shaped lever. The lever had a more curved shape like most other brakes I have seen. I think they are the 1 finger version.
Yes!!!! Looking forward to this one! First things first great to see you suit up for this one 💪🏾 great review I have the two piston zoom breaks and I notice the same thing when it comes to the lever I thought I was experiencing break fade on the trail. #wolfticknation love you guys and see you in the next one 💯💪🏾
its really cool what you can get these days for budget braking i think the more higher end stuff has a bit more lever adjustments but for the money its not bad at all
Hey wolftick! Just wanted to say I picked up the Microshift acolyte groupset off ebay and for $90 after tax I think its a wonderful upgrade right along with the mt200's I have for my Schwinn Axum! Also just bought a Rockhox Tora Air for $50 used but I don't have it yet, Thanks for the great videos!
I love the fact that they use pads that you can find too. I'm ordering a set for my budget bike and my BMC. Would also like to see an update on the rotor your using looked kinda cooked at the end of the video.
Good review as usual. Those brakes have air in them. It's often hard to get it out of the rear some air trapped in caliper. I had a similar issue with the Meroca MT420s but I figured out one of the pistons is leaking. There us a new 4 Piston brake, the Zitto M840 that also is about 75.00 on Amazon. Giving those a test now. O have a Shimano XT lever I'm going to experiment with on these brakes as well. Love the "Clean Videos". 😎👍

How about trying the 420 lever on these brakes just to see if sponginess goes away. Definitely a great budget option for brakes though. Thanks for the review WolfTick 🤘
Ive seen aggressive dh/enduro guys mix levers with other brand calipers. And example is the XT lever with Magura 4 piston. Its kind of a trend in most parts.
I couldn't tell if you can change the pads, but I had "not great biting brakes" on my stumpy and we just changed the pads and it was night and day difference.
I’m going to install one of these on the front since I jacked up the crappy tektro auriga I have currently……cheaper for this whole unit then repairing the auriga. If it sucks/fails I’ll just get a better one
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS thanks, I bought the set because it wasn’t much more than the front and had much faster shipping. Still going to run the auriga on the rear since I just installed a new set of tektro red ceramic/metallic pads this past weekend. I’ll be running 203mm galfer wave 2.0mm thick rotors which galfer with them so I think I should have some good stopping power and decent modulation. Thanks for the vids. They’re really great!
"kiss your own butt as you wip around".. what the hell does that mean? Hahaha "I came in a little high" that's what I always say/do.. hahaha 😂 . Another fantastic episode. Stay frosty brother 😘
LOL! Man you are too much brother, now not trying to tease you but we have a patreon video that just dropped called "grandma's got a little poe in her"!! LOL May look at using it as an opener 😉😆
Quick question, you guys do a lot of budget parts and stuff, but do you guys have any experience with the high end parts to compare the budget parts to? Just wondering lol. Great video!
they have shimano mt420's so they have some high end brakes, i'd love to see a brake scoring system like they do with the forks. I'm in the market for some hydraulics but still on the fence.
Heu brother forks yes, we have 3 pairs of forks over $250 of that os considered non budget I today's world. 😀 We are all about the budget lifestyle when it comes to mountain biking man. So when we are not filming we ride budget as well. Thanks for the question, it's a good one👍😉
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS Yo thatnks for replying) Im all about the budget as well cuz I'm in college and I gotta make sure I'm saving more than spending lol, but kinda hard to do that in mountain biking since theres so many tools and adjustments and upgrades, I still love it tho
Great video and I’m sure you have some bruised knuckles from those dang levers! 😂I’ve been reading that upgrading shimano levers to deore or better is huge upgrade on MT200 without having to jump to 4 pots. Would be interesting experiment and video to see. I was wondering about the same thing of mixed brand using some good levers and budget calipers.
Hey wolftick, love the vids man. I was just wondering to ask, what budget brakes would you choose for a better MODULATION, the zoom hb 876 or the meroca 4 piston brakes? Thanks
What you said makes sense, if you have a budget bike they would certainly be better than cable calipers! I used a shimano lever assembly on a tecktro caliper once, worked fine You still have the Meroca brakes on something?
Noice review, the GT looks good in the sunlight. Taint cam!! Can you swap the brake levers on the Zooms? Also, the fluctuating bite of the lever would make me want to install them on something only casually ridden.
Question: would moving the brake levers down the bars, further away from the grips, help for 1 finger braking or would it screw things up too much for more than 1 finger? The brakes seem like an amazing value, unless you ride black diamonds. I'd feel very comfortable using them on a bike that only sees pavement or light off road like fire roads. It was nice seeing your local roads. If I lived there I'd have to ride a road bike. Not out of love for road bikes but because I'd get my license revoked right quick going through the gears in my turbo on those open mountain roads.
Would love to see you ride these mountain trails man, they are intense! Now I think i would have to bring the reach in if I moved the brakes resulting in even more squish being so close to the bar overall.
Is there a skim the break like feather it just snuff some speed. I noticed in the other zoom breaks there is no feather to skim off speed. It’s either all on or all off. Nothing in between. My friend has zoom breaks he stated he found a lever that matches to use it he’s gonna try to see if he can swap it.
I just saw these on Amazon for as low as $49.99 and they come in various colors. As far as I know, the major brands do not offer their stuff in various colors, so if you are doing a budget upgrade and want a particular color scheme you have the options of Oil Slick, red, blue, black, silver, gold and purple. Do you think the spongy feeling was due to air in them? Maybe a good bleeding of the hydraulics would solve that? My 10 cents (inflation adjusted)
Happy Tuesday boys! Awesome video once again! About the brakes, did the lever feel better if you pumped it a couple times? If it did you probably got some air in the system. Check all connections to be sure they are tight ( lines, bleeder screws) . Rebleed and try again I guess. Anyway have a great rest of the week and we will see you Friyaay..🍻😎👍
Yeah I don't like the brake levers the shape of them is off, My Xfusion enix fork is the 26" version but mine has like a Teflon looking coating on the shock tubes and not just black? That's weird, Nice ride.
Did those brakes leak any fluid? Or are they just being effected by heat build up on that long downhill run? Did they return to the original bite location after they cooled off?
Pretty weird anyway. I wonder if the caliper pistons are metallic? Most Shimano pistons are made of ceramic, or plastic, which insulates the calipers and fluid from heat transfer from the brake pads.
Im not sold on the levers, I think I'd try shimano levers on them, but then it's pushing the price up, so might as well just buy shimano anyway 😂 would still be a very interesting and scientific experiment. Another crash bro, at least you had your gloves on! That trail looks amazing, I want a go 😂 Great video as always, take care 😎🍻👍
Now you are right, levers are just about the price of the entire brake set!! Might as well go big or go home. As for the test and science aspect....Def gotta happen!! LOL
Looks like your brakes have air in the system from factory, or are leaking and letting in air through faulty seals at the caliper. Might be they did not fill them up all the way, too little fluid in system, or they did not bleed them properly. This does not surprise me. If I go hydraulic again I will get proper brakes. Currently using mechanical brake stha twont give these issues.
It would be interesting to see how those calipers would work with a Shimano or SRAM lever. Its hard to beat $75 for 4 pot brakes, but lever has to go. Also, we’re those metallic or resin brake pads?
Hey brother, been well man. Nice to see ya, the Zooms will fit the Axum without any modifications, they do have to be cut for a 27.5 bike though....depending on sized frame.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS they brake well and are well made but I struggle with assembly because the disc touches the caliper. I tried to watch all the guides on UA-cam but the brake always touches
can't u just move the levers in a little bit? i have a full 1 inch gap between my grip and brake (with shorter levers too), and can still fit my shifter in no problem
Keep in mind they do alot of product review so it's not always about the color of an item as much as it is how said item works. Just thought don't pretend to know what is in the mind of a Wolfman or a tick!
That would defeat the purpose. We are reviewing budget bikes and parts for the average rider. Most of our viewers do not expect to have to work on new out of the box products. We might bleed them in the future and or try other brake pads. Thanks for watching👍
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS I get that, but even Shimano or SRAM brakes will feel like that if they have air in the system. That doesn't mean that the brakes are bad or of lesser quality. Now if you bleed them and they still feel that way...then I would agree that you have a problem with those brakes.
@Only One Cannoli So the problem with that theory is we have three sets of MT200 and some MT420 plus several other brands like Tektro ect...and we have rarely or never had a problem with fade regardless of maintenance. Our MT420's have hundreds of miles on them and have been through a couple of summers and winters and still work great with zero fade. We also tested some other Zoom brakes in the past with the same problem even after bleeding them. The main reason we didn't cut these brakes before we ran them is so they can be in the best case factory fresh condition before testing. I understand you want them to perform perfectly, but it just is not the case this time atleast. We want all "budget" bike parts to perform perfectly, but we owe it to the #wolfticknation as well as ourselves to be impartial and fair but most importantly as honest as possible. Hopefully the next set of Zoom brakes will fair better. We do still plan on messing with these in the future.
Did u loose you'r brake cabel cutter? That rap a round looks like 💩. If it uses same oil just use the shimano lever ffs 🤯 😤😡🤬 just changed my front shimano 4 p.. to the sram g2 since they dont have shimano pads in the store. lots of vids of miss mach brake parts vids on the tube so just tinker with it and cut that hose down
It would be cool to see a Wolftick Brake Scoring System, like with the forks!! 😎😎
I believe it's coming up!!
Good job, you actually bedded the brakes on video before the test so we all know you gave the brakes a chance to work right.

I’ll be running 203mm galfer wave 2.0mm thick rotors which galfer with them so I think I should have some good stopping power and decent modulation.
Thanks for the vids. They’re really great!
"kiss your own butt as you wip around".. what the hell does that mean? Hahaha
"I came in a little high" that's what I always say/do.. hahaha 😂 . Another fantastic episode. Stay frosty brother 😘
LOL! Man you are too much brother, now not trying to tease you but we have a patreon video that just dropped called "grandma's got a little poe in her"!! LOL May look at using it as an opener 😉😆
Oh man you trying to reel me in..?? Hahaha hahaha it's working
Poe Lawless i hope you're in the bean bag eatin cheetos havin a good time man
Quick question, you guys do a lot of budget parts and stuff, but do you guys have any experience with the high end parts to compare the budget parts to?
Clarks makes some 4 pistons brakes also, been looking for a set statewide
Oh really?? We need to look into those, had no clue. Thanks man
I think the Clark's 4 pot calipers are same as the meroca 4 pots.
Man we may just have to jump on that lever train and see what happens. Thanks Kevin!
You could move your levers inward. The brakes look like they need a bleed....
Man inthinknwe will bleed them then retry!
Hey wolftick, love the vids man. I was just wondering to ask, what budget brakes would you choose for a better MODULATION, the zoom hb 876 or the meroca 4 piston brakes? Thanks
Ooh, modulation wise i would but the Merocas, they have a little less on/off feeling.
You should include the ease of servicing for this brakes and also for the future other reviews, that is for us noobs. thanks
Thanks for the input Phil, we have a few brake bleed videos, one particular on the zoom 2 pots thanks man 👍
What you said makes sense, if you have a budget bike they would certainly be better than cable calipers! I used a shimano lever assembly on a tecktro caliper once, worked fine You still have the Meroca brakes on something?
Yeah brother we got them on the Axum DP!!
Ok I see you was wearing your PPE great 👍 job good video not bad for 75 bucks 👽🦊💪🏻
Thank you Sir, need to smarten up sometimes!
Noice review, the GT looks good in the sunlight. Taint cam!! Can you swap the brake levers on the Zooms? Also, the fluctuating bite of the lever would make me want to install them on something only casually ridden.
Agree man, I could swap them and may do that. And you thought the taint cam was back, oh son just wait!! Ebike review (fattire) may need a censor!!
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS oh lawd, taint ready for all that lol
Nice between these and mt420, the shimano is the clear winner. But how do they compare to mt200 ?
Man...We gotta do a brake comparison!! Stay Tuned simdude🤘
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS hell yea!
Please do a review of Ztto quad piston hydraulic brakes please
We will take a look, but first we have to look at some Clark m2s and Clout 1s
cool content, great work
Thank you so much, hope to see you around more brother.
Shifter location seems to be the problem with that
Would love to see you ride these mountain trails man, they are intense! Now I think i would have to bring the reach in if I moved the brakes resulting in even more squish being so close to the bar overall.
4:25 you can get a better feel with 2 fingers✌🏻
😉🤫✋🙋♂️
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS 🤣
what would say are your favorite breaks that you have? Also what would say is the best bang for buck if different?
Hey brother, we gotta do a comparison video!! So you gotta wait LOL but if I had to buy some good stoppers today, I would buy a pair of mt200s!
Sounds good man, please let us know how it goes with him.
what a cool place to ride
I just saw these on Amazon for as low as $49.99 and they come in various colors. As far as I know, the major brands do not offer their stuff in various colors, so if you are doing a budget upgrade and want a particular color scheme you have the options of Oil Slick, red, blue, black, silver, gold and purple.
Do you think the spongy feeling was due to air in them? Maybe a good bleeding of the hydraulics would solve that? My 10 cents (inflation adjusted)
We believe we will bleed them and film it, thanks man
Happy Tuesday boys!
Hey brother, I talked about that a little. But kinda I guess....We are looking at bleeding and a re test!!
We talked about it a little but man, we are going to bleed and re test! We will see you Friday man, happy Tuesday!!
Yeah I don't like the brake levers the shape of them is off, My Xfusion enix fork is the 26" version but mine has like a Teflon looking coating on the shock tubes and not just black? That's weird, Nice ride.
Very strange brother, but I see those all the time!! LOL And yes, levers are funky!!
Which would you recommend, the zoom hb876 or the Meroca M4 brakes?
Man we have got to do a comparison video!! Stay Tuned!!!
Did those brakes leak any fluid? Or are they just being effected by heat build up on that long downhill run? Did they return to the original bite location after they cooled off?
Once cooled they were fine, but no fluid leaked. I think maybe air in the lines?? We gotta bleed them
Pretty weird anyway.
That trail looks amazing, I want a go 😂
Great video as always, take care 😎🍻👍
Now you are right, levers are just about the price of the entire brake set!! Might as well go big or go home. As for the test and science aspect....Def gotta happen!! LOL
Are the brake pads standard over the counter variety or only zoom specific?
Looks like your brakes have air in the system from factory, or are leaking and letting in air through faulty seals at the caliper. Might be they did not fill them up all the way, too little fluid in system, or they did not bleed them properly. This does not surprise me. If I go hydraulic again I will get proper brakes. Currently using mechanical brake stha twont give these issues.
We may just bleed them, thank you Johannes.
How do these compare with the Meroca m4 you did back then?
Man we have got to do a comparison!! Be on the lookout😉
It would be interesting to see how those calipers would work with a Shimano or SRAM lever. Its hard to beat $75 for 4 pot brakes, but lever has to go. Also, we’re those metallic or resin brake pads?
Dude I don't know, I believe people answered resin?? But I hear padsake all the difference. Levers have to go!! 😉
better than the tektro hd-m275 or not because of the lever?
Man Jamie, we gotta do a comparison! STAY TUNED!! LOL
I just put them on my fighter supreme stopped me at 58mph
Safety 1st
🙏
Lever design is almost always the downside to cheaper brakes throwing some 1 finger deore levers would definitely make them feel way better
I would like to find out man. Really would, we do need to bleed them!!
so which is better, this or the meroca m4?
Man we have got to do a comparison video!! STAY TUNED😉😉💪
I might have some
How are you guys will this fit the Axum with out any mods??
Hey brother, been well man. Nice to see ya, the Zooms will fit the Axum without any modifications, they do have to be cut for a 27.5 bike though....depending on sized frame.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS awesome !!! Better than mt200 I see then on eBay for 60 are they knock off or something?
Clarks brakes?? Are good?
Rotors are great, not too sure about the brakes??
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS they brake well and are well made but I struggle with assembly because the disc touches the caliper. I tried to watch all the guides on UA-cam but the brake always touches
can't u just move the levers in a little bit? i have a full 1 inch gap between my grip and brake (with shorter levers too), and can still fit my shifter in no problem
Man, not too sure. I could but I worry the lever reach would be too far in for the brakes to grab.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS they are freakishly long huh, what's with that
Good morning
🙏
Is this recommended Bro?
That's up to you brother, we do not recommend just review. If you like it, then great 👍👍👍
Move them inboard if you don’t want them to hit your knuckles
Don't think they will feel tight if so, we are going to bleed. Thanks man
Why do you have green grips on a blue bike with red cranks?!!!
Keep in mind they do alot of product review so it's not always about the color of an item as much as it is how said item works. Just thought don't pretend to know what is in the mind of a Wolfman or a tick!
@@irish2200 yeah, I'm more giving him a hard time than asking a serious question!
NO CLUE!! LOL All I could find back in the day🤣
Nope. No problems with my Alivio levers and XT 4pot calipers. Idk about Zoom?
🤘🤘👍
Seems like you need to bleed the brakes properly before testing.
🙀man 🤘🏾
Thanksbrother, SHRED IT!!
I never had a 1 finger... it's always been a 2 or 3 finger...
With a Jessica I'm sure....😉
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS That was more of a 3-4 finger
I know it's just a review,but .. i would pay $30 more to get shimano m6000 two pots ..
That zoom levers seems so sketchy 🥴
Completely see were you are coming from!🤘🤘
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS ikr 🤪
How come you’re not wearing a helmet

To answer, no I would not buy any part of these brakes!! Have deore 4 piston and like them a lot.
🤣🤣🤣 Well try and go back to having mechanical cable brakes, can you now??? LOL These are heck of an upgrade but I am sure yours kill it!!

Thank you sir!
I think I’d pass. I’d save the $75, save up a little more money and buy a different set of brakes

@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS I've just ordered a set of black Formula Cura 4 brakes from Geometron.
