Yeah, this was definitely one of the better recap eps because there was an actual plot that would have consequences. The other ones could be thrown out completely.
Even though it’s a recap episode, it has a big punch to it with the big story element being Monica and Chandler deciding to move and leave the apartment we’ve seen for 10 years.
This show and its 10 year span was my entire 30s. I'm the same age as Courtney Cox, and all the actors born mid-late 1960s. Lisa Kudrow just turned 60 last week. I don't know even know how we all turned 50 and now we're in our 50s turning 60! That 10 years from 1994-2004 was a wild ride. The show was filming when I was 29 turning 30. It aired when I turned 30. It ended when I was 39, turning 40 just after. The characters were the friends and family I never had. When the show ended, I was seriously depressed for some time. But to be there at the start watching people my age and living my life along with them was a great ride! I just found your channel recently so I have only watched about 20 of the episodes to see your reactions as a different generation. I should go back to the start and listen to your commentary and comment on some of the things you ask like "Wonder what it felt like when you were watching these live" and also some of the references to pop culture that you may not have understood or noticed or knew the significance of for us then. This show will absolutely endure, and I can't wait for even more generations to discover it! I'm a huge "I Love Lucy" fan which I watched in reruns as a kid with my grandparents. That show is the GOAT, and there are a few episodes of Friends that make a nod to I Love Lucy (the "Pivot!" couch scene is one). I've always said that Friends was the heir apparent to I Love Lucy. Very few shows can hold up 30 and 70 years later and still make people laugh like silly!
It’s sad, but the writers of friends made a good point in the reunion. “If the show was about that time when your friends are your family; once you have family of your own, it’s no longer that time.” It makes sense since monica & chandler were about to start their family, phoebe getting married, etc. it does set up the stage for the finale.
When the season finale aired, there were parties on all the news channels before the last episode aired. They had categories of flashbacks....like chandler and joey or the girls.... It was on for several hours before 8 pm. If you could still find those videos, they would be cool to watch again.
You called the final arc on one of your previous predictions: Monica and Chandler move and have kids, Phoebe and Mike get married and Ross and Rachel got back together
Part of me really dislikes Chandler and Monica for this. They're just deserting their friends, breaking up the family the six of them made and don't even seem that torn up about it
That's pathetic. You should never hold your life back because of friends or family. It's YOUR life. They were just being selfish there. I mean Joey, Rachel, Phoebe and Ross.
