Building a Home Gym Under 1000 - Budget Garage Gym: 10 Items & Options

  • Building a Home Gym Under 1000 is a bit of a challenge now with prices soaring but you can still create that budget garage gym (and a really nice home gym) without spending all your money. In this video I cover 10 different items and options for each one and give you a price range for each.
    I give a few example budget garage gym builds for under 1000 with these 10 items and walk you through experiences and thoughts on them. A garage gym doesn't have to be expensive and these are great budget home gym items that you can build off of. These are 10 items with options for each that you won't regret spending money on later on. I would put these (and have or have had) these items in my garage gym. Admittedly nobody is going to buy all 10 but I tried to give options (ok maybe too many) and you can pick and choose what works for you.

      DIY TRX using Husky Hangalls, caribiner or quick link, strapping and pvc pipe for handles cost me $24. 80lb sandbag cost approximately $35 using duffle bag, rubber mulch and gravel. Search for how-to on UA-cam.

    I couldn't agree more about spending a good chunk of your budget on a great rack. I built my home gym with rack Halloween weekend 1993, and even then the majority of my money went to the rack and I never regretted it all the years I used it.

    I bought my bumper plates right before COVID started and all that was left on Rogue were their bumper plates that cost ~$300/ 2 45lb plates. Spend ~$1,000 just on 45 plates… They are some of the best quality bumper plates I’ve seen tho. I really wanted to get those iron plates because I love that ringing sound when you lift.

    I have a Titan T3 and am very happy with it. Buy the 36" depth if you have the space... I agonized over that detail and I'm so glad I bought deeper. So much easier to work in the rack. I also have the Rep FB4000 and am very happy with that as well. I'm always hear the raves for the FB-5000 but it seems like overkill and overbuying for 99 percent of us. • @jokermann77
    @jokermann77 3 роки тому +4

    One thing I want to point out most people don’t think of when it comes to benches. People will see the “bench capacity” and equate it to how much they can lift, forgetting about their own body weight. Let’s say you weigh 200lbs. If the bench has a capacity of 300lbs, you can only lift 100lbs before it’s “over capacity”. A 250lb man would only be able to do 50lbs “safely”. I’ve watched too many people on UA-cam/FB videos have their bench fail during a lift because they exceeded the limit. I’m sure some people would be fine. Just something to keep in mind.
    I think sand bags of different sizes (long bags with handles, strong man bags) could/should be included in the list. You can do a lot with them. Sand is also cheap I recently picked up approx 200lbs worth of sand for around 16 dollars + tax.
    Keep up the good content

    • @strawberryyogurt0
      @strawberryyogurt0 3 роки тому +1

      @jokermann77 ... Good points on the cumulative weight capacity that can be overlooked, but can you link some of those failures where the bench themselves failed? I couldn’t find any but I do see many failed bench presses where the lifter would have been better off having safety pins or a spotter.

    • @jokermann77
      @jokermann77 3 роки тому +1

      @@strawberryyogurt0 I never found them by looking specifically for them. They always showed up in compilation videos on YT/FB. I’ll try and see if I can find a couple. One I remember specifically was a guy bought one off Amazon and was only doing like 120lbs or something relatively light and it crumpled underneath him. I immediately showed my wife and said “See this is why I didn’t want to cheap out on a bench”. I’ll see what I can find.

    • @GlucksGym
      @GlucksGym  3 роки тому +2

      That's another reason I buy the best I can get. Better to not pay twice.

    • @GlucksGym
      @GlucksGym  3 роки тому +1

      I did debate sand bags but I had to start cutting things out. This video was actually a decent amount longer than this originally. I was going to mention that point when I talked about the Amazon bench (375lbs is it?) but I guess I missed it. Thanks for mentioning it.

    I can't agree enough about picking the right rack being so important. I have a Marcy Smith machine that I bought from Sam's Club. Before that, I had a Weider rack from Sam's Club. The Weider had pin safeties. The smith machine has nothing. When I use anything more than 160lbs on the external j-cups, they stick and mess up the lift off. Never even heard of Titan, Rep, or Rogue when I bought them

All I have is 3 Dumbbell sets 12lb, 20 and 30, and two fixed barbells from Titan 80 and 100lb. There is an alternate approach here. In fact make that two alternatives. The first is to scour the second hand market. This process takes longer than buying new but would make the budget go further. The other alternative I would like to see you explore is to exclude the rack entirely. There! I’ve said it! That leaves room for a set of loadable dumbbells, a sandbag or two plus a landmine piece (to be anchored by the weight plates) PLUS, wait for it…a Viking press 😊 Both the landmine and the sandbags give a heap of options to compensate for not being able to do barbell squats whilst the loadable dumbbells cover bench presses along with lots of other exercises.

    For a two car garage where we want to park one car. How big of a flooring area should be for a Rogue RML-690C, land mine, Adjustable dumbbells (Iron Master)? 12x12? I would prefer even multiples for 8x4 plywood and 4x6 stall mat. I think 8x12 may be good actually - three plywood boards per layer and four stall mats. Shelving for miscellaneous can just be on concrete.

      Depends what's cheap to you but the beast by cap would be a good candidate. I link and talk about it in the under $1k video. My area (similar size rack) is 10'x 12'. The extra 2' is the space to the side of the rack so I can get the weights on and off easily. The landmine will force you to use a little more length depending how you mount it and use it and your platform.
