I'm going to have to start a home gym when I move (cuz I will not be living near a gym). For the centerpiece of the home gym I was thinking of a major fitness smith machine (B52). I would also get an Olympic barbell and probably a 300 lb set of plates. Then I would buy a bench and some adjustable dumbells. Would this be a suitable home gym setup to work everything? (Later on I would probably buy a leg extension/curl, a leg press/hacksquat, and other machines like that)
I bought a Slim Combo Bar from a company called Edge Fitness. It cost me $300 plus $50 for shipping. When I got the bar it was bent. It must have warped while they were welding it. I made a video showing how bent the bar was and sent it to the owner asking for an exchange. Instead he called me and said it was one of the straightest bars he’d ever welded and having it a little bent would make me build more muscle and strength because it was harder to use. Then he said I could return it but I’d have to pay for the shipping and he would just re-sell it to someone else. I told him off and then blasted him on his Facebook page. Without a doubt the biggest scumbag I’ve ever done business with.
My worst was a grip tool basically just a straight 1' bar with a rope and a clip for a rope and you just rotate your wrist alternating your grip to roll and unroll the rope. This device effectiveness isn't the problem, but the metal holding the weight broke, flew up hit my tooth chipping a piece off.
Ohh crap!!! I've got one of those and was a little wary due to their often crazy cheap prices. So I kinda went for a mid level best looking one, fingers crossed!
My worst purchase was an old chromed out Nautilus Ab machine from my hometown gym that closed down. I bought it for nostalgia's sake and thought I might repurpose the weight stack for something else. I modified it and used it as a pullover machine until I bought an actual pullover machine, but now the stack is just sitting in the gym taking up space.
Went to a commercial gym for 4 years. Walked past the battle ropes everyday on my way to the power racks. So naturally when I built my home gym ,battle ropes were my next purchase after my rack bench and weights….. used them once woke the kids up at 4AM and have never touched them again. They make so much noise and need so much space to use
Can I just say that your "plz don't buy this, thanks" videos are the best? Also, the worst gym equipment I ever bought was a deadlift jack that was so poorly made and so small that the handle literally started making the noise of bending metal with just 200 lbs on it. I ended up getting a Bells of Steel one and just use the junk one to load my Rep Farmer Walk handles
Saying the proper term "couldnt care less" instead of "could care less" automatically puts you towards to top of fitness youtubers. Proper grammar is not a home gym mistake.
why is it wrong,? its like saying that you care so little about it that you just hit the bottom of the barrel of being able to care less Edit: its 8:30 am in the morning and i havent slept i cant read properly lmao
Right? I wish I knew about the ab3100 when I bought a cheap Amazon bench. Now I'm stuck with a working bench that I hate but don't want to needlessly replace.
I wanted one of those cups so badly when they came out haha. The Rogue rack jump platform and the Rogue Z-hyper, are two pieces that I basically never use.
Worst home gym purchase ... funnily enough from one of your videos. I bought the handle that can turn any dumbbell into a kettlebell, called the KETTLE GRYP. Yeah, I didn't consider that I've never incorporated kettlebells into my workouts before, and I still have not. No worries though, because it was pretty cheap. I at least think more critically about larger purchases :)
My biggest mistake was a Bells of Steel Rackable Curl Bar...I have a smaller Rogue one I reston my spotters, i keep pre-loaded. I jumped on a deal with the rackable curl bar craze last year, maybe one day it will get more use.
I don’t own a rackable one yet but an EZ-Curl bar is the absolute best for reverse grip barbell rows. At a commercial gym I use to go to I’d rest it on the preacher curl cups so loading and unloading wasn’t so awkward.
I'm going to make some people mad but it's true. Luckily I watch this channel so I make mostly good buys, but my worst purchase has been my nuobell dumbbells. I used to have the elite usa power blocks that went up to 90 and sold them to buy the nuobells. About the 2nd week I had them I was doing overhead press and one of the plates fell off with the edge of the plate hitting my foot while it was overhead. Hurt like hell and I've never trusted them since. Anytime I use them I miss my powerblocks I never worried about plates falling off or them breaking, and being able to change weights without the cradle was so much more convenient
Titan GHD is my worst gym purchase - it looks like a Rogue but the D pads are terrible, the vinyl ripped, the adjustment mechanism can't be tight because there's no bushings or space for washers, I can't get it to stop rocking while I use it because of the split base design, and the foot pads are soft and spaced too far apart. Unfortunately the only 'garage gym' review of one that I could find was basically an ad, and I fell for it. The Titan adjustable box squat box is my second worst purchase, because it's extremely difficult to adjust, and it rattles because I chose not to crush the cross member to get it tight, due to. a weird design choice. I hear I should get a Titan ssb, but I think I'll go with something else.
7:30 I am sure that my gym has one of those bars, I used to overhead press and instantly needed to use 5 extra kg, and the next day the bar was extremely bent
My worst buy was a $60 Pelpo adjustable bench from Amazon. The thing isn't *horrible* but a major issue is that it's not flat when laid down. Seems decent for a beginner but I decided to upgrade to a Rep bench before the Pelpo had a chance to unexpectedly hospitalize me.
Nice shirt!!! I think we can come up with some channel hijinks with that cup for future videos....maybe rogue cup vs titan equipment, who's more durable? 😆
I own two Titan bars. The first one I gave a 5-star review, the second ,1-star. Titan published the 5-star, but not the 1-star. Instead that second bar lived on their site a couple years, surrounded by 5-star reviews, as the price kept dropping all the way to .. unobtainium. Today, its dusty twisted form sits perched upon its dais in my garage as a beacon of caution ahead of any new purchases.
@@GlucksGym I chuckled when those Little House of hundred-dollar Horrors tried a reverse psychology siren song price bump before their final, 79 59, $39 just pay my freight death wail to extinction. Hey Bud, when is the video coming for those Kensui plates pictured right behind you. I've looked at them after I saw them on your wall and wow they are pricey. Curious what they are like
I use the plates from my $200 for 300 pounds box store barbell kit to load my strongman log. The accurately made center holes on my good plates are too small to fit. In this case two wrongs do for once make a right!
Ohhhhhh that would be a fun watch. All the crazy stuff fitness companies do, to try and manipulate you (or other youtubers) into writing positive reviews lol. The crap they try to do, I bet is plain nuts.
Worst gym purchase - 20lbs weight plate. Did one GoRuck (50 miler one) and then got injured and haven’t done another even since. Fortunately I went fairly cheap on buying it and already had a good backpack for it.
BOS leg press hack squat combo. 1700 dollars and the safety arms don’t work. Honestly I still love the machine and use it regularly but I am baffled that BOS hasn’t tried to do something about it yet. When people spend 1700 bucks on something it shouldn’t have fundamental issues that you’re going to fix in V2.
@@GlucksGym not your fault man - I bought it before the video game out. I had a lot of faith in bells of steel since I have bought their products before but really disappointed that they couldn’t get the safety handles to work. Honestly shocked they are selling it still assuming that they haven’t made any modifications
Without a doubt my worst purchase was the power block barbell. It seems like interesting idea on paper, but in practice it's just a mess. It's significantly more difficult than a standard power block to adjust as you have to slide it into both sides simultaneously. While it can sit on a rack, you can only adjust the weight off of a surface, which defeats the purpose of having a long bar in the first place. You can't just use it for movements like hip thrusts either, good luck rolling a block onto your lap. To top that off, it's not even rated to hold the full 90lbs on either side...
I have had some sort of all-in-one machine with plastic weights that were filled with sand. There was almost nothing I could do with it that formed a tiny bit of a challenge. Also the movements were very unnatural, especially the pec deck; everything was just too small and I'm actually slightly smaller than average. Another thing was an ab trainer from TelSell; you sat up straight on that thing with your elbows at shoulder height and you had to move a spring with your spine. Absolutely no resistance at all! There already was a layer of dust on it when I bought it second hand.
In the grand scheme of things I don't buy a lot, so my regrets are pretty light, but my most regrettable purchase was a Rogue Echo bar when I first bought my equipment. I mistakenly thought it would make no difference to me and I might as well buy the cheapest one they had, and my mistake really dawned on me when I bought an Ohio Power Bar a couple years later and felt the difference. Now I've got 20KG of awkward useless cheap barbell taking up space in my gym.
One thing that I am curious is why you never review Eleiko, though. Not that I would I would buy their products because they’re crazy expensive, like in an unnecessary way, but I’m curious on your take on their barbells.
The mug would be more fun if it was just heavy enough to be unique - like half of a pound, or maybe one pound - it is rather ridiculous as it is currently, lol
