    What was once thought to be a dying segment, GM pumps some much needed life into the full-size truck based SUV market with their redesigned 2015 GMC Yukon and Chevrolet Tahoe twins. Based on the impressive new Silverado/Sierra platform, these new trucks offer a presence that simply cannot be matched by smaller crossovers.

    It amazes me how many people have commented on how they can't understand why someone would want one of these "gigantic", "massive" or "huge" vehicles.... Do you have kids? Do you travel? Do you go anywhere? For those of us who answer yes to any or all of these questions, there is nothing better out there for family travel than a full-sized SUV. We own a Grand Caravan right now and are hoping to buy an XL model in the near future. When we travel with our 4 kids, we pack the Grand Caravan out. We also live in the mid-west and get lots of bad weather & snow in the winter time. I like having the 4 wheel drive available to me. I also like the safety of knowing that I am in one of the biggest vehicles on the road. If you want to drive a Prius or a Smart Car, go for it! We choose to drive larger vehicles. It is what it is.

      I agree. We have 4 kids. We test drove it. We are getting the Lincoln Navigator after driving the Yukons and Tahoes. Visually I thought the Yukon and Tahoe was nice inside and out. Rear seat is not good for bigger kids or adults in the Yukon or Tahoe where the Navigator definitely does. The floor height is cramped with the solid rear axle underneath in the Yukon and Tahoe, where in the Navigator your feet are not cramped because the Navigator has rear independent suspension. The Yukon and Tahoe doesn't have independent rear suspension so when you drive you notice that the vehicle doesn't have as good of a ride as the Navigator. Steering the Yukon and Tahoe took way more work but I did like the thick steering wheel where the Navigator steered effortlessly. Gas pedal on the Small V8 is so restricted to try and get good gas mileage. The 6.2 was well powered and didn't have the same lethargic gas pedal but on the Lincoln Navigator the throttle response was not just amazing but powerful across a larger power-band. I don't think the 6.2 would win zero to 60 nor do I think the 6.2 could out pull a full trailer as well.

      I'm confused. What does a mini van have to do with my test drive review for the large SUV's available for 2015? Are you saying mini vans are good or bad? Are you saying Full Size SUV's are unsafe?

    • @rhombus20
      @rhombus20 9 років тому +7

      ***** You sure do make a lot of assumptions about me. Just because I chose not to buy an Odyssey, I am ignorant and haven't done research? You have no idea what kind of research I have done. You have no idea what kind of driver I am or that I have been around large vehicles my entire life since I come from a larger family myself. I'm not sure what my owning of a Grand Caravan has to do with this discussion. I would say the same thing if I owned an Odyssey or any other mini-van or any other mid-size or smaller SUV. I gave my opinion based on my experience of owning and driving different larger vehicles including Expeditions, Tahoes, Suburbans, 15 passenger vans etc. As I said in my original post, you are free to drive whatever vehicle you choose. If the Odyssey is your cup of tea, go for it! For the driving that we do and in my experience, I will take my Yukon XL Denali any day over most any other vehicle on the market for my family.

      I'd rather have an SUV than a mini-van. We still haul our kids around: one goes to college and needs the space for transporting physics books and art projects. The other child likes room to lay down safely for a nap to and from middle school! The once a month trip to Costco is a must for cargo space. But we're probably going to go for the Escalade.

    • @YoMoore19
      @YoMoore19 9 років тому

      It's still fucking huge. What about a Q7? Or a GL? Or a X5? Or an Escalade? Those are big-ass cars. I mean you can easely fit 3 fathers of mine in the back of any of that, and my father has like 1.7 and 100 kilos. Not to mention it's ugly( the car, not my father).
      Offtopic: why do people make more than 2 kids? Seriously, you have a satisfaction in raising kids? I don't want to be an ass or something, but we're 7.4 billion and not showing signs of decreasing.

    I have to say that the Yukon is better than the Cadillac.. It has the same features engine transmission etc. And the interior is not complicated like the Escalade.. The escalade uses a touch sensitive center console that is overly complicated and requires atleast 2-3 presses on some buttons for it to work.. I test drove all the new GM SUV's (Tahoe LTZ, Yukon Denali, Escalade) and the Yukon Denali is the one that stuck out as the best..

    If you were a full-size man, this wouldn't seem like such a gigantic vehicle. I'm so sick of people saying these vehicles are "dinosaurs". It's stupid to say that -- my city is littered with full-size truck based SUVs.
    And for everyone griping about how you can get a Merc GL450 for the price of a Denali, do me a favor and price out a GL450 with all the options on a $73,000 4x4 Denali and let me know how much more it will cost.
    And yes, I have a 2015 Yukon Denali 4x4 on order. I hunt, fish, farm, play guitar in a band with a ton of gear, camp, tow boats and trailors loaded with tractors, and need something I can load my family and all of our beach gear in for vacations. Find me a vehicle that fits me better than this one.

      i agree
      im a 6 foot 4
      i can fit in my gti fine, but im still looking for something big as well as for my family
      and a nice suv is a fine choice
      plus the gl450 doesn't have hauling power nor the hp for the money
      as you said "all the options"
      the yukon denali gives you 420hp v8 (same in the escalade), over 8000lb towing capacity and more cargo room with the xl trim
      people complaining about prices, but hey go on ebay and you'll see prices dropping to around 65k or less for these suvs

    This Denali looks amazing and the interior is amazing, on par with the escalade and its other competitors. The only issue with this truck is the live rear axle. If this truck only had the independent rear it would have a much more comfortable and more usable third row seat without having to go for the XL.The Durango and GL both have very comfortable third row seats. This vehicle is bigger than both so it should be able to offer a full size third row. For me the third row is not something I would be using a lot but just being able to have a somewhat comfortable third row would be nice. Anyways this truck is still awesome.

    Sofyan -
    While I've always enjoyed your reviews, and am a loyal subscriber but you need to realize what you're driving and what it's intended for. We totally get that it may not be your cup of tea - yet, leave some room to be openminded. If you travel a lot these are such a welcome sight when one is sent for you by a livery service. I live in Houston, a city of almost 6,000,000 and these are everywhere. In NYC they have all but replaced Town Cars and gratefully so by the patrons. Same in Los Angeles. A truck of this heft shouldn't be hot-footed around, but driven in a relaxed manner; enjoying the commanding views, room and comfort it affords. To stomp it around that way would be akin to the pilot of a Boeing 747 doing barrel rolls in it. Lastly, this segment will always be around, in one iteration or another. Crossovers have their place but definitely don't fill this niche. Thanks for your coverage. (c:

    Not my cup of tea, but I like this vehicle. It's big, powerful and unapologetic. It looks very nice and flashy. And it's useful on top of all that. More power to those who'll buy it.

      *****
      I always check gasbuddy.com and use the Trip Cost Calculator to see how much it actually would cost to run the cars I am comparing to the places I usually drive. It gives you how much gas in dollars you would be using based on prices in the area you are in. I have found that because this car uses regular fuel it compares really well with the Touareg Diesel and other vehicles I match against this. That gives you a better idea about how much it will actually cost you. I have found that it compares well with cars that require premium or diesel due to the cost of those fuels so it is a good idea to not just take the mileage and fuel type into the equation.

      Everything nowadays is ridiculously expensive. A loaded up Camry is about 40k now. New cars have endless tech and features now. I went to the DC Auto Show this afternoon and test drove a loaded 18' Kia Stinger TT6 that was really nice. We're living in an era where a Kia (the one I tested) is $50 GRAND!!! Let that sink in, it's a sign of the times.

    Wow. You're really overlooking the towing factor in this truck's appeal. These vehicles, especially the xl versions wear many hats. Not all of humanity lives in suburbs and cities either. I can tow 8000+ lbs with this (prefer the longer wheelbase xl for more towing stability). I can go lightly off road with this. I can show up in the most refined areas of life in this and it wears that hat effortlessly too. Although my other car is a hybrid, and I really appreciate that in many many ways, my 110 acre property, hilly gravel roads, horses, and big city job demand this sort of utility. #noteveryoneislikeyou

    GM and Ford are actually working together on 9 and 10 speed automatics. So far I've heard the 10 speed will be for RWD applications and the 9 speed for FWD.

      Why not just use a cvt then?
      I hate cats with so many gears, they are constantly "AAAAHH, huum, aaah, humm, aaah, huuum"
      It really drives me nuts...

      Bruno Danese CVT's are terrible. They sound like a microwave and are more expensive to fix when they break. They arent good for hauling and towing either. So you can keep your CVT, I'll stick with regular autos

      NOLAItsNotOva Do you really think a NINE speed gearbox would be any cheaper to fix?

    I think some people probably would go for the xl model for the space it has way more space than the Acadia/traverse. Even tho it is bigger but the drivers would more than likely get use to it.
