Thanks! I watched this video and figured out what was wrong with our garage door. I called someone to have it repaired and they’re charging $400 just like your video said.
Ah, so glad this helped! I know, ouch on the price. But if the new springs hold for another 8 years or so (in my case), I suppose it’s a reasonable repair expense. Of course, now I try to not use the garage door 30 times a day!
I just got done cleaning and lubing all the wheels, cleaned the track, screwdrive and springs, they looked brand new. Sprayed it all down premium silicone and it worked like a charm. Trekked to a neighbors and when I came back I went to close the door and No Joy. Pulling the shuttle lock the door goes up and down just fine manually. Even better now. And if the sensors were blocked, the door would still go up.
Trapped in my garage this morning getting set to head to work. After doing some research I came across your video and ultimately same issue. Thanks for helping with my troubleshooting.
Mine just had exactly the same problem, lifted about 1 foot then stopped there. After watching this video, I found the right hand side spring snapped. Thanks. I didn't know there are springs to assist on up warding process, which does make sense now.
I really appreciate this video u posted on UA-cam it will help me what to look for. It's crazy all of a sudden my door did the Exact same thing that u posted
I saw the broken spring right away, and the fix is clear in your case. I have a similar behavior with my current Overhead Door, Legacy Series, opener. I think the spring age is comparable, but no broken spring, and it will work completely if I hit open and close a couple times. Same behavior from the top when it is starting to close. More often it works with no issue. This whole erratic behavior is a recent development. No blinking LEDs that I can find that would indicate a fault of any kind. Any thoughts on what this might be? The belt looks a little limp but not dramatically so. No obvious bracket issues like loose or misaligned hardware. The installation worked flawlessly for possibly 20 years before this nonsense started. It's a 10 ft door (i.e. super heavy), so I've been assuming everything else is comparably matched for heavy duty operation.
Thank you soooo sooo much. This video just saved me an unnecessary repair bill. My garage was doing the exact same thing and a quick trip to the breaker box, turning the garage door electricity on and off, solved the problem. Thank you again 😊
I am having the same problem with my garage door. What if it's not the spring then what I do. You said there was a code that was given on your garage door but never said what the code was. Do I need to replace the until🤔 I have had this until for about 6 or 7 years
Hey thanks for the video, at first I thought I had an issue with sheared or loose bolts on the belt drive shaft area and it was loose so I tightened them up but the problem remained, so I saw this video and then saw that indeed one of the springs had broken.
You could have bought the same set of springs at Lowe’s, for $89 and installed it in 40 minutes. You got ripped off. It makes me a little angry that they charge someone 4 times the part cost and $190 hour and a $65 fee. The special wrench is a bar.
Thank you so much. My car was stuck in the garage and I was having this issue. I’m going to get a repairman to fix it but your tip at the end was awesome so I was able to get my car out and get to work. Thank you so much!
I had my torsion spring replaced..however regardless of the warranty (cycles) I chose it was going to be the same spring they installed. It was just the guarantee I was paying for. Not sure this is the same in your case but definitely be specific and ask that question.
We had similar problem after we replaced the mainboard (or whatever they call it) and it would only open a few inches. We just had to adjust the 'Force Open' and 'Force Close' buttons. Simple fix.
My garage door wouldn’t open higher than 6 inches. I tried all the sensor tricks and fixes, still wouldn’t work. I kept hearing the slight hint of binding, and the chain would just seem like it was trying to pull too much….. I lubed all the binding points, and spring. Then I had a second person press the wall button, while I helped it up, just a bit. It got through that binding point. Anyone know if I can use the same lube on the chain? I do think the garage door installer didn’t do a good job on leveling it during installation. When it was brand new, there was cricking and cranking, like a rusty door would.
If your unit works fine when the door is disengaged but won't work when the door is attached, this means that your door is too heavy for the opener. It needs to be balanced. A balanced door is one that you can easily lift open manually, and holds in place at about 1.5 ft to 2 ft. In this case, the spring needs to be readjusted. If you've never done it, call a specialist. You can seriously injure yourself if the spring snaps while messing with it.
Bro paid extra for a warranty and more cycles for the spring when the guy sold him the same spring either way you got burned. garage door, washing machine and lock smiths price gouge.
Definitely NOT A SPRING PROLEM. Turn the Lift Force Dial up a level or two with a screwdriver on the garage door box. 1 minute fix! I was freaking out.
People, leave those springs alone! This man has the right idea. Each year homeowners are KILLED trying to fix/repair those springs. Yes, really!
Nothing I wanted to involve myself with!
I heard
Thanks, you just saved me between 500 and 600 bucks. All I needed to do was unplug it and plug it in again! Thank you.
You are welcome!
My car was stuck in the garage and your tip at the end on how to open it saved my day!
Hurray! So glad this helped!

Fantastic news! Glad it helped.

this was the exact issue i came home to last evening and appreciate the video letting me know what needed to be replaced. cheers!

Thank you for the good vid, it saved me a lot of time and effort trying to analyze my garage door problem. Broken spring it is..... 👍👍

Thank you. Saved me a headache trying to figure out what was wrong.
So glad this helped!
Very helpful video, thanks!
Don’t touch the springs! Last year I put a 5/16 Allen wrench through my hand. Lucky it wasn’t worse!
Crazy!! Glad you’re okay!

Thank you for this!! Esp the last part! Kept us from being trapped at home with two little kids on Saturday!
So glad this helped!
Thanks a lot for this video. It helped me find my problem quick ❤
Great to hear - glad it helped!
Do the springs at the top of the garage suppose to be connected or separated ??
If your unit works fine when the door is disengaged but won't work when the door is attached, this means that your door is too heavy for the opener. It needs to be balanced. Don't mess with springs! The tension on these have a tension that can take your head off. Never touch this.
Turns out one of my sensors came unscrewed. So I guess it does work after all? Still, a very helpful video.
We have our original springs from 1995 and it has never been broken
saw it was your torsion spring immediately, but I let you fumble through all the checks just for fun
Thank you for this video.
Glad it was helpful!
You have entirely too much unnecessary talking. This video should have been 3 minutes.

My garage door opener is not opening the gate and I clear how to learn to open the door to the garage door opener
The smart person finds a spring from some other place instead of paying $500 for a bag on Spring good lord they're killing you

At least it was the spring
left spring broken .
So I got a 16,000 cycle spring for $80. Took about an hour to install. Watch videos
You’re braver than I am!
Over travel needs to be set
Dude get right to the point -- messing with the springs could KILL you
My god dude get to the damn point
Dude hurry up and get to the point!!
True dude hurry up man
He’s going through each step of inspection you might’ve found the problem in one of those steps
You talk way to much
Hahahaha
He talking to much
