Yesssssss! That was the greatest trailer, plus I love that you have it in the "DON'T" folder!!! Lmao. I want to make it a drinking game, shot of beer every time the movie says Bees
Irwin Allen was good at casting a ton of elderly actors in his movies... people he could relate with but no one else. My favorite scene was the giant bee hallucination. If i saw a giant bee hover over my bed - I'd run screaming like crazy! You have to post that scene!
Incredible! In this trailer the newsreporter makes reference to the Okies of the 1930's leaving for greener pastures. This was brilliantly described in Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath". In the film version the main character, Tom Joad, was played by Henry Fonda. When he read the script or saw the finished film ("Swarm"), he must have been thinking TGOW, too. There's something WRATHful about having one's town being invaded by a SWARM of bees.
*Michael Caine would scare the bees away just by himself LOL* RIP Fred McMurray of 'My Three Sons' TV fame cause I believe this was his last film before his death. :(
This scared me shitless when i was like six hahaha especially the bit where the boy wakes up in hospital and hallucinates thinking a doctor has a massive bees face. Its seems so trivial now.
There was another "killer bee" movie mostly set in the Louisiana Superdome that I saw some years back--a bit more frightening than Swarm, which I also saw in the early 70s after moving to Arizona (we've got tons of those african beehives here)They've always frightened me even till this day! :-(
I vaguely remember the line, "Bees freeze at 45 degrees" - but I was a kid and haven't been able to find a copy of this at libraries, netflix, or blockbuster to watch it again. Guess I could buy it on amazon but it's probably not worth that. Wonder at my memory of the line though! Seems like they herded the swarm into a closed sports dome and turned down the temp to kill them. Only saw it the once though.
What is amazing about this film was that it was made by Irwin Allen, who made 'Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea', 'Lost in Space', and 'Fantastic Voyage'.
I saw this accidentally on tv when i was about 4, all i remember is the bit where the bees come to the primary school and that little girl is eating the lolly pop and gets covered in bees, have never been brave enough to watch it a second time and it gave me nightmares for years, terrified me.
Funny how Lee Grant plays a news reporter by the name of Ann MacGregor...that is exactly the same name of the character Lee Meriwether played in Irwin Allen's TV series, "The Time Tunnel". Notice 'computers' from that series in the missile base and nuke plant.
This is the movie that turned producer Irwin Allen from the Master of Disaster to the King of Schlock! To think he made the ultimate disaster film, "Poseidon Adventure", only six years eariler! How the mighty have fallen!
LOL. Those passenger cars were also transporting all the fuel for the flame thrower guys. The Bee's with there "limitless power" knew this, and stopped us before we had a chance! Isn't it obvious!! =P
In 1978,our school got swarmed by bees after boys ripped a hive full of them out of a tree in the school grounds Boys were running and waving their arms to away the bees just like in this movie. True! Art imitating life, tho no-one died, the boys at my school really deserved what they got
As a kid, I loved the scenes with the flamethrowers. But as an adult, I just wonder why they didn't use a better pesticide. I know they tried something in the movie, but the bees wouldn't touch it.
i don't think it is themed on this, i think its just a story similar to it, as the 'creatures' on the ride are something out of this world and not bees and are much, much bigger. In the ride trailer they make it appear that the 'creatures' take you away, and that's what the ride is supposed to be like, it's supposed to be like the 'creatures' are flying off with you, lol
AKA "Planet of the Bees". Now, if someone would write a screenplay about a moving swarm of genetically-altered bees that acts as a single, collective intelligence, with each bee functioning as a single neuron, that could be an interesting and entertaining film. Would serve as a good metaphor for mob rule.
I watched this when it was on the late show with my dad when I was 16...we killed ourselves laughing...little did my dad know--- I was on acid! Its true!
I loved these man vs nature films from the 70s. I never knew how they would somehow put together such stellar acting talent for such obvious cheesiness. Still, it was all the better for it . You see how pathetic films like this are in the Sci Fi channel era, this is an example of how to do it right. The funny thing is, everyone in the cast took the material totally serious, that made it even more effective and endearing. Thumbs up for the future Alfred Pennyworth
this movie was heavily sampled for the wu tang spin off album of the same name "the swarm" it was a good album that had a bunch of unknown members of the wu tang clan ryming over rza's tracks.
@moviegoer167 The problem was Allen seems to have spent the almost entire budget hiring big name actors for all the roles, including bit parts that usually would be played by a newcomer or an extra, and spent almost nothing to hire a talented screenwriter. He clearly forgot what made films like Towering Inferno and Poseidon Adventure scary, they were well written and well made films about disasters that really could happen.
No, Slim Pickens leaves with his son in a body bag and he's never seen again. Of course, he showed up in "Beyond the Poseidon Adventure" with -- you guessed it -- Michael Caine.
where's the rain when you need it I mean really it doesn't show up when killer bees attack, aliens invade, sea people come out of he sea killing people and a giant woman attacks but it does rain in Poland when an old guy dies(karol movie)
I don't really hate this movie, it's just that a lot of people die in it. Almost the entire main cast. Like the first two people, are the only survivors.
Yup; Cain and his girlfriend lure them to the Houston Astrodome and hit the Airconditioning and freeze'em to death. (bees can only live within a very few degrees)
You would think that Irwin Allen would have learned his lesson after "The Swarm" (1978) not to make poor disaster movies. He ended up getting the green light to produce Beyond the Poseidon Adventure (1979) and When Time Ran Out...(1980). Talk about a three multimillion dollar stinkers! These movies are the ultimate in bad-funny flicks. Where's MST3K when we need them?
Richard Chamberlain as Michael Caine are GREAT actors not as many nowadays that keeps complaining for money , then poor Charly Chaplin that was one of the actors that had nothing at start....
Ah yes, the old 'colony of killer bees is heading for the US' myth. Did people actually believe that nonsense?! It's now 2012, and still no sign of the evil swarm. What the hell is taking them so long?! Maybe they're flying Delta Airlines, which would explain the 35 year delay so far. :)
They're here, but they were just over played for film and TV thrill factors. The africanized bee situation is kind of serious, but nothing can live up to 70s disaster status. .
Yesssssss! That was the greatest trailer, plus I love that you have it in the "DON'T" folder!!! Lmao. I want to make it a drinking game, shot of beer every time the movie says Bees
Hahahaha these 70's movies are still awesome. I remember watching this on tv as a kid at my grandparents. Wicked.
Irwin Allen was good at casting a ton of elderly actors in his movies... people he could relate with but no one else. My favorite scene was the giant bee hallucination. If i saw a giant bee hover over my bed - I'd run screaming like crazy! You have to post that scene!

One of the best "B" movies out there! So outlandish, so crazy, so much fun!
*Michael Caine would scare the bees away just by himself LOL* RIP Fred McMurray of 'My Three Sons' TV fame cause I believe this was his last film before his death. :(
I saw this trailer before Superman The Movie in 1978. I was six. This trailer scared me. Now...at 36...I'm good! Classic!
I saw this in the theaters when i was a kid. Frightened the crap out of me.
all those 70 movies remember quite well as a kid
Love the bit in the power station Richard Chamberlain and Jose Ferrer nearly trip over their flares whilst trying to escape those damm beeeeeZZZZZ!!
This scared me shitless when i was like six hahaha especially the bit where the boy wakes up in hospital and hallucinates thinking a doctor has a massive bees face. Its seems so trivial now.

I the part where where the trailer guy is like "Man is their enemy" and the next shot is of them trying to escape. lol
My god I love the info section of this video. Good to know I DO have a soulmate out there, lol
What is amazing about this film was that it was made by Irwin Allen, who made 'Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea', 'Lost in Space', and 'Fantastic Voyage'.
"WHEN ARE WE GONNA STOP this massacre" LOL!
Oh man, what a cast!!
I saw this accidentally on tv when i was about 4, all i remember is the bit where the bees come to the primary school and that little girl is eating the lolly pop and gets covered in bees, have never been brave enough to watch it a second time and it gave me nightmares for years, terrified me.
Michael Caine is hilarious in this. One of his greatest performances ever!!
"The killer bees are coming". LMAO.
I remember this movie....AWESOME!
Funny how Lee Grant plays a news reporter by the name of Ann MacGregor...that is exactly the same name of the character Lee Meriwether played in Irwin Allen's TV series, "The Time Tunnel". Notice 'computers' from that series in the missile base and nuke plant.
there needs to be a reboot with Nicolas Cage XDDDD!!!
Nicolas Cage, Elijah Wood, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jada Pinkett-Smith (That's just a few current stars I'd see doing a re-boot LOL)
This is the movie that turned producer Irwin Allen from the Master of Disaster to the King of Schlock!
To think he made the ultimate disaster film, "Poseidon Adventure", only six years eariler! How the mighty have fallen!
Do you have this movie? i've looked but can't find the movie any where on you tube
It might be a rare DVD by now Big T!
he means the courage and sacrifice of the guys who stayed to fend off the swarm in sting proof clothes with flamethrowers
"my name is micheal caine AND THOSE BLADDY BEES ARE COMING"
I remember seeing this one at the drive ins.
LOL. Those passenger cars were also transporting all the fuel for the flame thrower guys. The Bee's with there "limitless power" knew this, and stopped us before we had a chance! Isn't it obvious!! =P

True!
Art imitating life, tho no-one died, the boys at my school really deserved what they got
Apparently, Irwin Allen used some props from Lost in Space and Tunnel for this production.
ride in thorpe park themed to this and is opening next year!
Get Inside! The Bees are coming get inside!!!
¿COMO CONSIGO LA PELICULA?
AWH GOD NOT THE BEES, NOT THE BEEEEEEEEEEEEEES
i cant wait 'til this comes out!
I seen this when I was Six, I am now 22... I am still scared of Bees... thanks :(
This has a great Jerry Goldsmith score.
As a kid, I loved the scenes with the flamethrowers. But as an adult, I just wonder why they didn't use a better pesticide. I know they tried something in the movie, but the bees wouldn't touch it.
They really have just got Japan to import their Giant Hornets to the US. One Giant Hornet can easily match thousands of bees
i don't think it is themed on this, i think its just a story similar to it, as the 'creatures' on the ride are something out of this world and not bees and are much, much bigger. In the ride trailer they make it appear that the 'creatures' take you away, and that's what the ride is supposed to be like, it's supposed to be like the 'creatures' are flying off with you, lol
For me beer instead of under ware (as now it's too cold), can remember 70's cheese..............
Actually, not a bad movie. Can Hollywood nowadays ever assemble a great all star cast like this??
Ah, the great battle--man vs. styrofoam pellets
Dude, i think you are making references to the 1976 TV movie, "The Savage Bees".
20 years ???
"Get Inside! Dammit i need to call Batman."
The Bees are coming :-0 ;-)
We're going to need a BIG rolled up newspaper...
I watched this when it was on the late show with my dad when I was 16...we killed ourselves laughing...little did my dad know--- I was on acid! Its true!
And they call this movie a disaster! looks pretty enough to me!
No NO NOT THE BEES NOT THE BEES
I loved these man vs nature films from the 70s. I never knew how they would somehow put together such stellar acting talent for such obvious cheesiness. Still, it was all the better for it . @JoshuaTaylor
I don't get the tagline either.
this movie was heavily sampled for the wu tang spin off album of the same name "the swarm" it was a good album that had a bunch of unknown members of the wu tang clan ryming over rza's tracks.
ha ha like 20 actors ha ha and the train was such a model :P
How 'bout a beekeeper suit?
So just wait for some cold weather.
"It is more than just a speculation, it is a prediction..." Um.. huh ?
@moviegoer167

Classic man vs. nature film.
Its like the birds!
Is there a film in the 70's where Lee Grant DOESN'T have a total meltdown?
Yer thinking of "Food of the Gods"...giant wasps and rats, etc.
Bees, my god!
i somewhat feel like i just watched it
wheres all the zerglings?
Dude. It's prediciton!!!
I don't really hate this movie, it's just that a lot of people die in it. Almost the entire main cast. Like the first two people, are the only survivors.

For me, this would be the ultimate scary movie - which I will never watch! lol ;)
Richard Chamberlain as Michael Caine are GREAT actors not as many nowadays that keeps complaining for money , then poor Charly Chaplin that was one of the actors that had nothing at start....
OMG WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN!?....
its okay
the movie had a good concept, not the worst movie I've ever seen but the acting, well left a little bit to be desired.. Not a bad movie though
thats scary
WHY MICHAEL CAINE. WHYYY
