This trailer does not do justic to how scary that robot is. I saw this when I was little and had nightmares about that damn robot. This movie is actually much darker and creepier than you would expect.
Totally agree! I was also a child when I saw this movie and that f*king robot scared me a lot! I even remember he kills a cat or dog, and that terrified me! :D
Autumn Spring We watched it with my sister and it scared the shit out of us and we had to turn off the tv the first time. But then we got some courage and finished it and I, too had nightmares.
Héctor scared shit out of me! I saw Saturn 3 in early 2000 when local TV in Latvia bought a cheap old movies to fill nightime 23:45-2/2/3am Hector was so scary!
I love the atmosphere created by these 80's Sci-Fi movies. They always have a dark cruel undertone. That theme tune plus the robot scared the shit outta me when I was younger. Underrated film.
As cheesy as the effects are, this film is NEVER boring. It makes for an enjoyable viewing experience. Ignore the critics. This movie is an escape from the daily grind!
One of the first movies that I showed at my college film club. Its a underated classic. Will have to give it another viewing now that Kirk Douglas has just died. Sad.
I saw this on USA a looong time ago and couldn't stop watching it. The scene where she gets glass in her eye still puts me on edge just remembering it.
Back when real film making was the norm.. These days its all done on a computer. CGI looks flat to me. I love this movie. The sets, props and practical effects look fantastic. The scenes where he's building the Robot are awesome. Demon Seed is another good one for people who appreciate this film.
Finally I found it, ah my god. Remember this as a kid, well only really remember one scene where the robot wears someones face. Can't wait to watch this and runaway again. I love you internet
Hector the robot wasn’t nuts, it became nuts when it linked up with Harvey Kitel’s character. Harvey failed a psych test early in the movie, killed a rival pilot and headed for Saturn 3, so Hector incorporated those homicidal traits into his programming, and started trying to murder the other people, and wanted to be Farah Fawcett’s mate!
those retro voice overs for trailers in the 80s used to terrify me and simultaneously captivate me. I always wondered who did them, they had the same creepy tone throughout; irregardless of the movie genre [though best worked with Horror or Sci Fi like this]. One of my abiding childhood memories hahaha
It looks so laughable now, but this movie scared the crap out of me when I was a kid! I see from the other comments that I was not alone at having nightmares after having watched it! : )
RIP Kirk Douglas, the ultimate Hollywood legend!!! PS: Saturn 3 was an excellent sci-fi classic, and something you never expected from Stanley Donen, the guy known for nicer films like Singing in the Rain. Dignity, always dignity....is the first casualty...on Saturn 3!!! Boom!
It was an about 1985 in polish tv I remember and I was 5 years old watching with my grandfather and I was so glad that I watch this thill the end because they killed this robot at the end. This gives my a lot off relive that is dead and he doesn't come too kill us at night he he :) . Today I'm 35 years old and still remember. Very good movie and awesome memories from does days.
I saw that movie when I was a kid and some scenes were burnt in my mind: when the robot picks something from Farrah's eye, Kirk and Farrah running through a long corridor while the lockgates are closing just behind them and the robot wearing the bad guy's head.
@steerpike66 There are many people for whom this movie is a grimy smudge on their filmography. The only saving grace was Farrah Fawcett's cheesecake appearance. That & the pre - ALIEN / Predator / Terminator elements, like a robotic " boogeyman ".
I remember this movie so well! I have tried to find out what was the name of this movie and now I know it. I used to watch this ALL THE TIME when I was a kid, and I didn't even find it scary. Now I probably will.
Used to be a regular on BBC1 late night in the late 80s and early 90s. Even then as a kid I thought Smirk Douglas was looking ancient! Cheesy goodness nonetheless
I wonder if this was _before_ or _AFTER_ the movie "Alien" came out? What u guys think man? it's a mybe for me lol rite i mean maybe but what if not rite?
What disturbed me a lot about this movie was the end scene. You thought that he had survived his ordeal only to see that he had an AI plug in socket installed in the back of his neck / head meaning that the robot won in the end. The fight between man and machine goes on.
I second this comment! It was the best part of the movie. Its sound was that of pending danger and really added to the suspense and drama of the whole movie. They really don't make them like this anymore! No cheez at all!
wow, this trailer goes from epic to silly, from silly holy crap look at those actors this must be legit, to oooh that looks creepy and sinister maybe I should check it out
for anyone that read martin amis's novel, money; martin amis was the script writer for this movie and the aged movie star obsessed with youth, lorne guyland was based on kirk douglas.
Sorry to hear from those, with negative comments of this film............ I saw this when i was 12,, and loved it,,,,Well, actually it scared the hell out of me....I mean,,,( that robot was quite frighting) ......You gotta admit thou ,, its a great story line .......
I never saw Alex in that outfit in the movie!! LOL I thought I was hallucinating on some "Blue Dreamers" for a second there. Benson: May I Use Your Body? Alex: I'm With The major. Benson: For His Consumption Only? Alex: Yes. Benson: On Earth This Is Considered Penaly Unsociable You Know?
Indeed, first-time viewers, this film is everything you think it is from the trailer. But that credited John Barry is not the John Barry you probably think he is. Instead, THIS John Barry was the production designer who was removed from directing this film then soon got involved with the Star Wars and Superman feature film franchises.
@todtubetod the part of removing the splinter or what ever it was, freaked me out, I thought he was going to yank her eye out! I was about 10, it came out in 1980
The production designer John Barry, who did STAR WARS, was to direct this but he died right before filming. Stanley Donen took over for one of the oddest 80's sci-fi movies ever.

Autumn Spring
We watched it with my sister and it scared the shit out of us and we had to turn off the tv the first time. But then we got some courage and finished it and I, too had nightmares.
Me too!
So many half-remembered memories of being terrified by robots, which I misattributed to The Terminator. But nope! It was MF'in Hector, man!
The sound effect when Hector showed up on the hunt chilled my childhood bones to the marrow
The 80s and 90s just had that space background feeling
Yup! I’m 54 now and will never forget this goofy, but scary, movie when I was a young!
hehehe me too...
Undeniably one of the greatest looking Production Designs ever!
As cheesy as the effects are, this film is NEVER boring. It makes for an enjoyable viewing experience. Ignore the critics. This movie is an escape from the daily grind!
Movie is crap by critics, but i have been fascinated in my childhood. It was one of my favourite sci-fi movies :)
One of the first movies that I showed at my college film club. Its a underated classic. Will have to give it another viewing now that Kirk Douglas has just died. Sad.
RIP Stanley Donen - thanks for bringing so many stories to life
I saw this on USA a looong time ago and couldn't stop watching it. The scene where she gets glass in her eye still puts me on edge just remembering it.

Demon Seed is another good one for people who appreciate this film.
Anything thats not CGI looks better.
Finally I found it, ah my god. Remember this as a kid, well only really remember one scene where the robot wears someones face. Can't wait to watch this and runaway again. I love you internet
This movie gave me nightmares when i was a kid....something about the eye thing hector does still gives me chills
I love movies like this. Like, Hardware etc
I watched ''Hardware'' solely to look at handsome Carl McCoy until I got to enjoy whole sick concept of the film
I find it seriously Ironic that Kirk Douglas, (The OLD Guy In The Film) out lived the seemingly way younger Farrah Fawcett...
For me, Farrah is an absolutely beauty for ever.
THIS MOVIE WAS MY FAVOURITE MOVIE OF ALL TOME.... ID LOVE TO BE ABLE TO BUY IT ON DVD TO KEEP.
I was about 10-11 when this movie came on a few times in the late 80's. That damn robot scarred me to death.
Is this the only film when Harvey doesn't take his top off because the other actor would tell him not to ?
Who wouldn’t want to be with Farrah😂
Creedence tapes

this used the same voiceover person as did Star Trek II - The Wrath of Khan. I've been trying to ascertain who it was.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw this as a kid and got scarred for life by this movie! ;)
It looks so laughable now, but this movie scared the crap out of me when I was a kid!
I see from the other comments that I was not alone at having nightmares after having watched it! : )
+Barn Star Me too! Lol. I am going to watch it again soon, might even switch the lights off.... haha! must be 30 years since I last saw it.
YES!! I saw it as a kid as well and had nightmares:)
Yep me too man..
The reveal where Hector is wearing what's-his-name's head was real nightmare fuel ...
i don't think it looks laughable. Wanna see laughable? Watch "Zardos"
Thats a classic vhs voice anyone remember vhs its been a long time
I love how perfect this description is.
A movie truly appreciated in adulthood only when seen as a child
That eye sequence was always a scene that stuck with me. Saw this film when I was like seven.
this was creepy as hell when i was a kid. the isolation, the demention, the sound of the robot....ugh.
Saw this at the theater when I was 8. Scared the crap out of me. And that old man naked fight scene between Harvey Keitel and Kirk Douglas. Shudder!
"A nightmare so perfect, it could only be made by man."
-1:15 - Mm-hm. Yep.
You can also play : Find how many times does Farah Fawcett scream in this trailer ?
Just a clue : it's more than 20....
Better than its reputation.
I love this movie! Great little timecapsule of the era
The art direction and set design on this movie was outstanding! It had a look like nothing else.
Boom!
I always liked this film as a kid. Thought Hector was scary as hell and the music was great.

That's a great sci-fi film. Thanks for posting it on youtube. Happy NEW YEAR !!
Love the practical/optical effect shots in this.
I saw that movie when I was a kid and some scenes were burnt in my mind: when the robot picks something from Farrah's eye, Kirk and Farrah running through a long corridor while the lockgates are closing just behind them and the robot wearing the bad guy's head.
My fave Kirk Douglas film rip old friend
@steerpike66

Looks pretty bad but still better than a lot of today's cgi rubbish.
looks awesome! i love older sci-fi stuff =] thanks for uploading this!
I fucking love stories like this, why arent there any good movies these days with real sci fi stories...
1:21 That robot is so adorable.
I was watching it 14 years ago... Good movie!
i read the book and loved it!
I remember this movie so well! I have tried to find out what was the name of this movie and now I know it. I used to watch this ALL THE TIME when I was a kid, and I didn't even find it scary. Now I probably will.
@mayena That rings a bell. I recall being in junior school and we were all talking about it being on one Saturday night
2021... love it Farrah Fawcett
Used to be a regular on BBC1 late night in the late 80s and early 90s. Even then as a kid I thought Smirk Douglas was looking ancient! Cheesy goodness nonetheless
I hope that someone post up this video, as I have forgotten how it goes, in terms of scenes and so forth, and I only saw it once when I was a kid.
Saw this as a double bill with Hawk the Slayer when I was probably too young for this. Awesome double bill!
Glad to see here in the comments that I wasn’t the only kid who had nightmares about that creepy fucking robot and the sounds it made.
If anyone is in england this film is on late tonight (saturday night to sunday morning) on bbc1 or bbc2.
This movie used to play on NBC in the "Friday night movie", or something like that, because its from ITC Entertainment (The Muppet Show)
I ordered the OST last Monday, received it today
great music for a nice, underrated film
Reminds me of Chopping Mall.
Nice!!
@maytrikks Thanks for the info! Would you by any chance know if it's the edited version or not?
I remembered this one when the robot appeared, thx for posting ^^
I think this is a great movie.
I wonder if this was _before_ or _AFTER_ the movie "Alien" came out? What u guys think man? it's a mybe for me lol rite i mean maybe but what if not rite?
Wheres the trailer tho
What disturbed me a lot about this movie was the end scene. You thought that he had survived his ordeal only to see that he had an AI plug in socket installed in the back of his neck / head meaning that the robot won in the end. The fight between man and machine goes on.
saw this when i was like eleven or twelve freaked me the heck out
ill will be buying this tomorrow!
I watch the trailer for Moontrap just once and now my feed is full of trailers for obscure Sci-Fi thriller/horror films
I second this comment! It was the best part of the movie. Its sound was that of pending danger and really added to the suspense and drama of the whole movie. They really don't make them like this anymore! No cheez at all!
wow, this trailer goes from epic to silly, from silly holy crap look at those actors this must be legit, to oooh that looks creepy and sinister maybe I should check it out
OMG i remember watching this as a kid. It was super scary....
Looks kind if silly now lol
Sorry, no idea. I have seen it in the past but didn't know there was an unedited version. How did the two versions differ?
for anyone that read martin amis's novel, money;
martin amis was the script writer for this movie and the aged movie star obsessed with youth, lorne guyland was based on kirk douglas.
WOE NICE FLIGHT ATTENDANT :P
wow Kirk Douglas was in this, I've never watched it from start to finish.. but when I do I hope to see the uncut version.
is that the voice from Dragonball Z???
Sorry to hear from those, with negative comments of this film............ I saw this when i was 12,, and loved it,,,,Well, actually it scared the hell out of me....I mean,,,( that robot was quite frighting) ......You gotta admit thou ,, its a great story line .......
so do you definitly recommend this movie then? cuz I wanna download it and have a look
@Pookypaws I don't think MST3K did this, but it was on Joe Bob Briggs' Monstervision
I saw this in the theatre when I was 9 or 10. I just remember the robot taking something out of Farrah's eye.
I never saw Alex in that outfit in the movie!! LOL
I thought I was hallucinating on some "Blue Dreamers" for a second there.
Benson: May I Use Your Body?
Alex: I'm With The major.
Benson: For His Consumption Only?
Alex: Yes.
Benson: On Earth This Is Considered Penaly Unsociable You Know?
They need to remake this movie. Cool plot with a scary concept.
Remember seeing this as a child in 1984.
I can't believe this came out the same year as Alien... It looks at least a decade older
the 1st terminator was mostly from james cameron's nightmares (who knew that bad dreams could cause a multi-million dollar franchise?)
I can't find this movie anywhere!!!
This film scared me as a kid robots still scare the crap outa me
WendyLB Transformers more than meets the eye!! Did I scare ya?
same here
RIP Farrah Fawcett
Do I need to watch Saturn 1 and 2 first to understand Saturn 3?
I remember it scared the shit out of me when I watched at tender age of 6.
xsx
Indeed, first-time viewers, this film is everything you think it is from the trailer. But that credited John Barry is not the John Barry you probably think he is. holy shit did you see the look in that robot's eyes ... this is gona be good.
@todtubetod the part of removing the splinter or what ever it was, freaked me out, I thought he was going to yank her eye out! I was about 10, it came out in 1980
I remember this masterpiece
Cool! Where are you downloading it from? I can't find it anywhere.
you got some great trivia out there on the INFO section
The production designer John Barry, who did STAR WARS, was to direct this but he died right before filming. Stanley Donen took over for one of the oddest 80's sci-fi movies ever.
holy shit....i'm totally BUYING THIS!
Kirk Douglas getting lucky with Farrah, in an isolated outpost no less! The impossible is unthinkable, for sure!!!
Saw this in a double-bill with "Hawk The Slayer" in about 1980...Great days!
Looking forward to watching and critiquing the movie
"Captain, this is my partner.......", lawl. I remember this movie as a kid. It didn't seem as camp back when i first saw it tho.
This film was inspired by Alien and was released the following year.
Though I wonder if it in turn had an influence on the 1st terminator film.
cool fonts! stop, is it terminator? )))
