Now I know where those 2 rubber buffer stops came from that I found in my glovebox after the cabin air filter had been replaced by the dealership.

Thieves charging $70 labour to do this at the VW dealership. It's not even a 2 minute job.
One mechanic is likely making around $30 an hour alone. $70 for a job doesn’t leave room for much profit even if the job doesn’t cost the dealer anything to fix.
