Tom you should do a podcast about how Christianity has evolved in late 20th century America. Aka the “Bible Belt”. How American Baptist Protestantism has fit into the evolution of Christianity and how it to view it as a small part in a whole timeline
Great podcast as always guys . If I may be so bold (if you should read this ) it is my great hope for this podcast is that you do a 4 parter on lost Edwardian ocean liners. That would be awesome.
@@johnshistory6522 not at all. Part 1 Titanic, Part 2 Empress of Ireland, Part 3 Lusitania, Part 4 Britannic. As I said it's my hope to hear that. But I understand if it's too repetitive for 4.
@@nicholasege5970 I'm not saying you couldn't fill it. But they've done maybe three 4 partners ever. And those were on topics with a big popular appeal
Anyone can come out with their own version of something at any time! As cameraman on a film many years ago, I told the Director we should probably call it a day, as it was getting too "Jurassic". No idea if anyone had used that before, and no explanation needed.
The Irish - Anglo ☘️ history so much reminds me of Ukraine 🇺🇦- rusian history. With the exception that British imperialist were the model and rusians were copying it 😅 can you do a podcast on that topic?
The death toll at Drogheda was small compared to what happened in the sieges of the 30 Years War (1618-1648) where millions died. Less than 3,000 died at Drogheda. This was also a Royalist garrison commanded by Sir Arthur Aston an Englishman. Cromwell came to Ireland to mop up Royalist resistance. The Irish decided to involve themselves in the English Civil War after Charles I had been beheaded. They made a similar mistake with James II in 1690. James went to Ireland and raised an army after he had been kicked out of England. The Irish picked the losing side in both English Civil Wars of the 17th century. This sort of behaviour just invites English distrust. Leo Varadkar picked Brussels during Brexit, and Ireland will probably pay a price in the future. The EU is already falling apart, with Putin causing fractures. Germany will probably reach an understanding with Russia. Ireland isn't in NATO and Geriatric Irish Joe will be gone soon. Ireland can't defend its infrastructure or its airspace, security may again become an issue.
Actual twaddle and Brexit-brained wish casting, Britain is in much more of a broken state than the EU, who are all still remarkably behind Ukraine for the most part. Germany passed out the UK in terms of military aid supplied a while ago and despite all the whinging and nashing of teeth from the Órbans and Ficos of the world, deals for supplying military kit keep getting signed, NATO gained two of the wealthiest and militarised Nordic countries and the EU itself has been happy to keep the cash flow going on a supranational level, bypassing the messiness of national politics. Ireland does have plans in place to protect its skies and waters: the deals signed with the UK that for political reasons on both sides of the Irish Sea are not exactly being shouted about from the rooftops. Also Joe Biden? Have you not noticed that every US presidential in the last 50 years is pro-Irish and happy to support the nation on the world stage? You’d swear they didn’t tell the UK government that no trade deal would be signed as long as they kept threatening the peace in Northern Ireland throughout the Brexit fiasco which the Tories happily did by agreeing to be propped up by the knuckle-dragging DUP.
Jaysus. Tell us how you really feel! I agree with you on security. One well-placed cruise missiles would close balnonnel for good, and a scuttle of a decent-sized tanker would close haulboline for good. :) Christ, we don't even have a primary radar. In fact, the best decade for irish "air Superiority" was in the 60's when we flew vampires! At least they could catch up with airliners!
Oh come on!! No one is talking about breaking the EU. Ireland Will keep a similar status to Austria: not NATO, but certainly not as neutral as Switzerland. Ireland has seen how much EU IS worth the trouble.
However, it was a Scottish king that dumped the reveers and encouraged the city of London to fund the settlement of Ulster, which was the hotbed of Irish resistance.d@@KeithWilliamMacHendry

That’s one of the finest Irish accents that Dominic has come up with, it really feels like you have an actual Irish man in the room. Quite brilliant.
Uncanny.

Erin Go Bragh. Thanks all.
The point that was made about Cromwell. Tolkien made this point in LOTR when Gandalf was saying why he couldn't be the one to have the ring.
The Fitz surnames by the way is norman French, (like Fitzgerald and Fitzpatrick). It means son (of), compare to Parisian French fis.

Blarney is an Irish word.
Top stuff. Thank you.
Some parallels with today? Land, religion, political power, depopulation, repopulation ... Not Ireland of course.

The divisions caused by Anglo-Irish history are sad. A united British Isles would be unstoppable
