My friend owned a gold colour 1978/79 T reg, facelift model Fiat 132 automatic in 1993) it was ultra comfy" and drove brilliant" but the bodywork was littered" with scabs of rust! I remember on, one of the rare occasions my friend washed it, it actually looked far worse" as the dirt had actually helped disguise how tatty" the car was. Thanks for the brilliant broucher review i love these 1970's Fiat's )

That's probably a car that Jack from the Number 27 channel would like to drive. I'm pretty sure that he did an episode on the 130 coupe. In Australia Fiats in general were very rare. The only one I ever rode in was a 124 coupe from the late sixties. It belonged to a school mate of mine's father, who was a doctor. It had a classic interior, complete with wood on the dashboard and a wooden rimmed steering wheel.

As you stated, outside of Italy, I can't imagine that Fiat sold many of these. Besides, they had higher end Lancia at the time. Most certainly, the 132 was a rare sight in Britain. My Fiat experience extends to the 126, Panda, and various small vans. It is the small, cheap and cheerful market where they really thrived.

We had a 132 2 litre in Champagne Gold. 1979 to 1982. I remember picking it up from Comberhill in Wakefield. ‘He’s just bringing it round Sir!!’
It was a lush motor, but yay, corrosion and non fantastic build quality.
Would have loved a Bellini automatic…

Thanks for this. Back in 83 my father had a gold 132 as a company car, I think it was a couple of years old at the time. I was 17 and had regularly the use of it whilst my father was away on business trips abroad. It was a wonderful car to drive at 17, having just passed my test :)

Another interesting vid, our neighbours in the late 70’s had a Fiat 132. It was a great looking car in light blue metallic with a plush velour interior. He was a Bank manager and always had more exotic cars than my dad’s Ford’s. It certainly started to rust pretty quickly but the twin cam 2 litre engine always sounded fantastic, way sportier than our Pinto engined Cortina !

Great video and great brochure too. I love the big Fiats from the 70s. They were so nice yet so misunderstood it seems. I loved the 130 coupe too. I could see these going up against BMW and Mercedes of the time. Shame they just rusted though,

I had one in '87. It was nice, comfy but rust was setting in. Barely five years old, I think. Black with the same alloys.

A good special to cover. I can remember these being in the showrooms in 1980 (my dad had a W reg 128 1300CL) and have exactly the same brochure in my collection. Most definitely a classy and desirable car. From memory black was the only colour available. To me the updated versions of Fiat models from this era, the Argenta and 131 (1981) followed by the Strada and 127 (1982), lost some of the character of the earlier cars and seemed cheapened somehow. The Palio was a really nice special available in metallic blue or gold with a fabric sunroof, tinted glass, grey plastic bumpers and side mouldings, alloy wheels and a more luxurious interior. A shame about the rust and reliability issues with Fiats from the '70s/'80s. They were basically very good cars spoilt by poor production practices and lack of quality control.

I new someone who bought a 132 new in 1979, the fiat got traded in 1985 it had 140000 mile and the engine was still running sweetly.
My family had Italian cars from 70s and I think fords were just as rust prone as fiats.
I really don't understand why people get exited about old fast fords???? and their rubbish 4 speed boxes and single cam engines.

They needed more than a 2 litre to be a serious luxury sector competitor. Citroen CX was a serious luxury competitor with just four cylinders but their engines still ranged from 2 litre to 2.5i Turbo and there was a diesel.

Looks very smart indeed. That velour upholstery looks superb.
However, I'd prefer a 131 Mirafiori Sport in orange. 😃

The 132 reminds me of the Fiat 131, Brava.
Fiat has a reputation of not being reliable.
