    I adore simple clean lines in my clothing. The extra details really do make a garment special. That's probably why I really like the look of many 1940's styles. The designs have clean lines but with that extra bit of detail. The "extra" might be strategically placed buttons, darts , pockets or some other detail.

      @TheDriftwoodlover 2 роки тому +2

      Yes. When I look at photos of my mom in that era, the clothing has such nice detail. And of course the fabric quality was so much better than today.

    • @texasstardust6010
      @texasstardust6010 2 роки тому +2

      @TheDriftwoodlover ...yes, fabrics and such was better , wasn't it ? The fabrics were nicer, the quality better.
      When one looks at some of the details that were on clothes from years past that were of quality, those details are still present today, with certain clothing. It has one asking why things have veered so off course, with " fast fashion ", and other such ways that clothing took a turn for the worst, lol. I've been a " classics fashion " girl since I was High School , with just a bit of something " fun" thrown in now and again. My shoes and clothing always matched, ... I tied scarfs on my neck or handbag, even in High School.... I owned blazers to wear with jeans, and I didn't wear jeans or trousers very much. I owned a long coat that kept me warm. 🙂. I think adding a bit of fun and an edge to one's wardrobe can freshen things up, ... however, it seems that wearing shorts and flip flops is acceptable, even to dine out ... which is not something I appreciate, lol.

    ....I adore DETAILS in clothing , always have... Braiding , Welting, Pleats, ..Ruffles, Special Buttons ...Linings that are beautiful.
    Striped inside collars and cuffs on a button down shirt or blouse. The slight shimmer of sequins .
    Thank you Marie~ Anne for the beautiful examples, especially the one you helped design! I believe DETAILS really do set ones clothing apart, even when it's classic clothing. 🙂💯💫

      Tell me about it; I am so sick and tired of hearing fellow Americans--born here--who cannot correctly speak their own language. Don't get me started about people who use the word "like" for "say" or "said." English is a beautiful language, but so many Americans have sullied it.

    Something I would like to see again is trousers with a hidden side zip. Along with good tailoring it just makes the trousers more feminine and they tend to hang better. Same with skirts, the side zip gives a smooth line at the back. If I ever become super wealthy I will have all my suits hand made! In the meantime, off to the thrift stores for me :)

    I found this gorgeous linen dress from Country Road (an established Australian brand) that is fully lined and has fabric-covered buttons, a long cuff. It even has hidden buttons through the torso area to prevent gaping. The attention to detail in both the design and construction has lifted it to an exceptional standard. I love wearing it.

      Hi Marion,
      Well said: elegance is subtle; it does not scream in your face, "Look at me!" I used to over-accessorize in the 1980s with everything matching: shoes, purse, belt all in the same color. Now, I have pared down the accessories, and the look is more refined.

    When Mother taught me to sew, she told me to pay attention to details, as they show the quality of the garment. In particular, she told me that on nice quality jackets, for example, the plaid matches at the seams. As for details I appreciate, I like epaulettes, puffed sleeves, or similar detail at the shoulders as my shoulders slope.

    One detail I love is contrasting trim, either piping on blazers, skirts and dresses or colored bands on knits. It’s smart and classic. Just one example is my navy pullover knit top with white banding on the collar, cuffs and hem, it’s so much more interesting than one color allover. I also love collars on sweaters, etc., that make a V-shape when open, what we Americans call a polo shirt or sweater (I think the British use this term for what we call turtlenecks). This is one trend that I have invested in, because it’s classic and flattering on me, much more so than a crew-neck (I often wear a collared shirt under those). Collars bring attention up to the face, and, if white/light, cast light on to it if wearing a darker sweater. Square necklines, too, I love (I’m busty and they visually cut the size of my chest, without showing cleavage - a lifelong No-No for me). I’m choosy about necklines, I think they’re really important, a video on those, please?

Your video gave me a thumbs up so to speak for sparkle and I will wear one soon. I have worn a rather large printed scarf draped over my shoulder and down my back with the opposite end secured in the pocket of a black dress. Sumisurra is Out for me because they only use polyester linings, which I just can’t tolerate. If they had an upgrade to, say to a breathable rayon or viscose, I would be ordering from them all the time! The ubiquitous poly linings are what stop me from buying new blazers.

      I agree, Kimberly. Sumissurra is a great concept, and I have a custom coat, which I love, but I only buy natural fabrics. My region has very extreme weather, from super cold to extremely hot and humid throughout the seasons. For me, fabric content is the main factor in clothing purchases.

    I tried to get the navy trousers, but they were sold out, sadly. I love a little nautical style, like in these, so long as it isn’t done throughout the whole outfit, that can look costumey.

    Marie Anne, this is not directly relevant to this video, but I would like to ask for your advise. I watched the videos you made for shoes and get very good inspiration. However it is hard to find shoes I like at shoe stores when I want them. How do I shop them on line? How to make sure the size will fit. Which measurements are critical? How to take them correctly? Thank you in advance.

    First of all i´ve to praise you for the wonderful scarf, link would be appreciated, and the inattendu is amazing. The small details make items grand indeed. The loafers is just wonderful. I tru ty use small items like a pearl necklace or a brooch, a little vintage style to give a blouse or blazer that little extra. Thanks Madame for a lovely and inspiring video.Love

    Hi Marie-Anne, I have a question please regarding the care of your silk blouses. They always look so beautifully ironed, how do you press your shirts and scarves for these results? I have a good quality steam iron and also a hand held steamer, but am not sure which one is better for the job. Thank you Martine x

      @@MarieAnneLecoeur Thank you for your advice. Yes please, I think that video would be very useful as I'm sure there are more of us French 'Chicers' who are now buying silk! I have a small silk scarf collection, and one new Lily Silk blouse. I found your video on cashmere care very useful! Have a lovely day, Martine x

    Please Marie-Anne - what is the French word you use on the 2nd blouse with the pearl pin? I can't quite make it out, and I'm always keen to learn new words!

    • @kathyvivian8966

      Thank you! It was lavalliere (I must find the accents on my new keyboard!) that I didn't know. Now I've looked it up, it says it's a "tie with a large knot", which makes sense - although not as succinct as the French single word. You had put the translation for inattendu on the screen, which was very handy. Thanks again.
