Nice infomercial between the commercial advertising... After banning free speech to protect Bolshevik interests, UA-cam has become a "ghetto" of useless and unwanted babble serving their money god!
This is the best review for water use for the new camera. I am also based in South Florida and struggle with the finicky overheating issues of other action camera. I also need something that is dummy-proof in terms of waterproofing. I’ve ruined GoPros bc I had the external battery on or a 3rd party protecting casing which exposed the interior. DJI has hit it out of the park for me and other water enthusiasts. I take this bass fishing, kayaking, boating, and looking forward to getting into snorkeling with this new equipment by my side
You should do another review in 6 moths to a year and evaluate longevity. I would love to see a side by side split screen comparison between the Osmo and the Gopro. Should be easy to mount them both on one bracket. GoPro has been really good to me with their customer service. Somehow I now own 4 of them. Mostly that's because they end up leaking after a year or two and I just buy a new one when I run into issues. Seems like the Osmo addresses both my pet peeves about the Gopro: limited depth and short battery life. The white long lasting batteries from Gopro apparently are a lot better but I haven't tried one yet.
This camera will be incredible for your fish identification video!! The colors of the fish were spot on, and seeing a more accurate image of what the coral/fish look like through this camera is game changing! Great review, can’t wait to see more videos filmed with this camera!
I used to make YT videos as a Motovlogger and always used the GoPro Hero 2, I still have it but haven't turned it on in years. Well we went out to Sands Key which is south of Clearwater beach the other day and we were out in knee deep water and there were schools of what I believe were snook swimming around us, then a Manatee swam right behind me and lastly a dolphin swimming in and amongst all the people in the water(I believe it was feeding time). I told me wife that I wanted to get a good GoPro so I started doing some research on the GP Hero 11. Then I started seeing videos comparing that camera to this DJI Osmo Action 4, I had no idea they had a camera that competes with the GoPro. I own a DJI Mini Drone so I am already a fan of DJI just for their drones. Anyway, long story short I ordered the Action 4 today along with the floating grip as most of what we will use it for is in the water. I'm excited to get it and start using it again, maybe it will spark some motivation to get back into the YT thing. Thanks for your honest review on this camera sir.
The colours are astounding! And the shots are crisp. The slowmo 4k120 shot in the hole is super impressive - I think my GoPro 10 would be very grainy/muddy or too dark with the same settings. I was also surprised with how the torch light weren't blowing out the shot. Great review. I.m.o. if the next gen GoPro does not come out with an even bigger sensor they are toast.
My mannnn. I've been waiting for someone to use this underwater finally got to see it. Thank you. I've been researching this action cam and now that research is complete because of your vid. I'll be gettin this over 11 black
DJI has some quality products. Love their drones. I've been using GoPro 9's and 11's. I've had issues with overheating. I might have to give DJI a try. Those slo-mo shots are incredible! Great review Aaron.
Im really glad that a smart photo top tech bless your hard work. The images are amazing and Im sure James and Lisa are a part of of your growth. as photographer. Please, keep this on. Its really cool. :)))
I do like that feature when your diving that the color stands out true without buying filters for diving. I’ll be waiting to see how it does when u adjust the settings. I might just forget about the go pro that I have and switch
Holy wow bubba. This camera is the future not only for you to continue to impressive us but for any outdoors man for any task. This video was so crisp they should use some of your shots if not the whole video for there commercials. Jeez dude. I’m blown away and excited for you.
I think its great that your last video about cameras was comparing the Gopro 11 and the DJI 3 and you didn't seem to think, to me anyway to feel that either camera hit the mark for you. My take away was the color was better on the 11 but you hated the red fade at the surface and how you had to work a little harder to get what you wanted out of the Gopro, the DJI 3 was easier to use but not giving you the colors you wanted. It Seems DJI came through with the 4 and hit the mark. I don't know if you notice but that 5:34 when you broke the water, the Osmo did the red fade but WAY faster. It seems like they are doing what Gopro did just better. I will say that I really appreciate the use of slow mo with a proper frame rate, It looks really good and I hope you use more of it. Also, that frame rate in the darker water when you shot the grouper was very impressive. Looks like DJI knocked it out of the park with this one.
yea I have been thrilled with it so far, the low light shooting. the colors at depth, they really stepped it up with this one. and that white balance correction on the surface was extremely noticeable. it corrects so quickly compared to the 11. they did a bang up job on this one.
Really appreciate the honest and down to earth review minus all the tech speak. I've been considering alternatives to GoPro and this just rose to the top of the list.
Wow Aaron!!!Finally some couloors😀That's a huge improovmant from the other camera. We can now see what you see and that's what I've been missing from your earlier videos. I may have to byu this camera to a diving friend of mine 😀
Glad you made this video, this is the test that I'm looking for hope there is more video shot using the DJI 4, perhaps comparing with DJI 3 and or Go Pro will be incredible
Aaron, great review! I’ve been shooting underwater footage since the dare I say the 70’s . Started with a Ikelite housing and a Kodak super 8 camera. Also bought the first film go pro camera, Relics compared to this new DJI. Looking forward to more true color content from this camera. Also liked seeing the four legged Capt on the boat. Capt Doug
I was very impressed with the color rendition on this new camera. I don't film much underwater yet a porkfish grunt looks like a porkfish grunt and everything else looks as it should underwater. Should be more beautiful footage to come!
Aaron, you’re killing me bro. Bought a brand new Gopro in June and my only gripe is the frkn battery doesn’t last at all. Just tried to return it and the window closed. This is what I need with the battery life and depth Decisions decisions
On another note I bought that electric fish scaler you tested. Two neighbors copied me. That tool is amazing and hilarious at the same time. Rooster tails of scales flying off my fish and they’re cleaned in seconds
I've been diving and skiing with my GoPro Hero 3 for years, thinking it was "good enough" Boy, does that ever convince me it's time to upgrade. I was fixing video in post-production, but with that, you practically never have to. I noticed how it added red as you submerged, then reduced it as you got to the surface much faster than your previous camera. Everything would look pink for a few seconds until the camera adjusted back. This one was very quick. Very impressed. 👍
yea the quickness in that color correction is huge! I hate that lingering red look at the surface for too long but it does a great job, def looking forward to putting it to work more.
Have you tried a magenta or red filter for getting improved color on your dives? I think you almost need 2 cameras, one with magenta or red filter when diving and a second with no filter for at the surface. This camera is doing ok color, but I want to know if the magenta filter makes colors pop at depth. Magenta is supposed to be for green water and red for blue water. They adjust for the lack of red light penetrating at depth.
I have tinkered with them but don’t like them personally constantly changing filters throughout the day. Different depths require different filters and it may look good on the bottom but looks like crap when i surface. This camera has solved that.
@@KeyWestWaterman So, no need for filters ? Did you use specific settings in the Action 4, I heard about an underwater setting/mode (not available on the v3), or any recommendation for underwater settings ? Pro mode ? anything else recommended
Those slow mos are soooo sick!! If you ever came up w/ an intro vid before each video, something like that would be soooo cool! The colors look awesome!
A lot of people use that phrase game changer. I watch a lot of spearfishing vids and to me that slow mo of the hole shot truly was game changing. I don’t think I have seen a hole shot with that clarity and smoothness of the slowmo. I have a gopro 7 and I absolutely hate it. It did this battery drain thing about 10% of the time my battery would just die after being fully charged and I missed some whale shark footage one day from a shore dive! It just killed me. If i ever upgrade def be remembering this vid. I trust you more than any big camera reviewer.
Mr young. You are one of the most humble, calming, and honest content creators I’ve ever watched. May Jesus bless you and if you don’t know Him I pray for you and Maddy. Peace be with you ❤
Great video Aaron! Wow. Love Tipsys demeanour she obviously loves the water. In 1 week, you’ve put it thru the ringer. The improvements to me are obvious but I think time will tell. Will it last? My crystal ball just exploded. God bless!!!
Watch your videos all the time! That camera did a great job and the colors were very vivid, bright and everything was clear. The action rock steady feature was awesome! That horizon lock was very cool too! Mounting system was great design not having to mess with hardware!
I was looking for some subtle pros and cons with side by side go pro comparison, but that turns out to be completely unnecessary. The difference is remarkable. I've stared at editing software for hours color grading and not come come to this. Amazing.
really blew my mind, I honestly haven't found any cons yet with this camera. but again only had it a week so we will see once I start using it more. been thrilled so far.
I have a DJI drone and love it, customer service can be lacking at times, great equipment though. Best wishes with the new setup and look forward to your upcoming content with the camera!
I immediately saw the difference.. Even with the filters I've used in the same type of water I never saw that degree of a depth of color like that.. Nice.. Can you give an idea the mask you use with the mount.. Have a heck of time finding a decent one.
Im actually really excited about this camera. As someone who isnt invested in Gopro I have to choose between the two and lately all Im hearing in videos I watch is how frustrated people are with their Gopro's. The price seems pretty decent too.
will you make diving comparison with hero 11 ? amazing review :) and I love your diving movies because not many people test cam in real diving situations
I have only just now read this about the osmo action 4 when scuba diving."When diving below 16 meters with the Osmo Action 4 and the Scuba Diving mode activates due to pressure, the usual shutter/record button is disabled. In this case, you'll use the Quick Switch (QS) button to start and stop recording. The QS button is designed to work under high-pressure conditions, allowing you to control recording without relying on the shutter/record button. So, even deep underwater, the QS button becomes your main control for starting and stopping video recording".So this button becomes a universal button to power on, select video or photo, then take a picture or start shooting a video. I checked the DJI manual and it doesnt clearly say how this is achieved. I checked with dji support and they said you need to decide wether you will be taking photos or videos past 16 meters before the pressure cutoff kicks in.Then you can only use the camera as a start and stop. You cant play back videos on a dive or scroll to other presets to bracket different fstops and iso settings etc.
Curious as to what you are using to attach it to your mask. I looked at the different combos and don’t see what you would use to attach the camera. Just moved to Key West and am really impressed with the quality of your videos and the depth of your knowledge. Keep ‘em coming.
Great video. The thing that would get me to buy this camera is if it actually held the color deeper than the gopro which seems like it does. I usually hang around 40-60 feet deep, so if I don't got to go in and color correct every clip so it doesn't look just blue, then that would indeed be a game changer for me.
I have a video coming out tonight filmed completely with this camera so you can see more in depth. But it does an incredible job. Some of the same clips you saw in this vid as well.
Great camera, nice work. But the best part of this video was you bringing your puppy with you. She's loving life out there. Take her out every chance you get. Had to put my old lab down a couple years ago, best dog on the planet, best anything on this planet. His resting place is college rd Key West. The people that worked there at the SPCA were top of the line people. I do mean top of the line. A little off topic... lol😁
@@KeyWestWaterman Mine was 15, never cried once, couldn't get up anymore. The dream dog. Glad you get her out, you can see she loves it, like mine did. Many of us dog lovers out there, we love seeing her.
Incredible work my guy! Nice job with the new video gear. Even greater videos for the future. Now how about some more spearing!!! For sake of the fans thrills!! Can't wait!!👍👍👍
So glad you made this video! I hate my GoPro Hero 8 Black because it has so many issues, but I looked at every other option on the market, and nothing seemed worth it. I was just about to upgrade to a Hero 11 this week, but thanks to this video, you made my choice a lot easier, and saved me some headaches and a bunch of money!
Hi, loved your review. But as a diver I'm missing the automatic record button with the camera switched off that Go Pro has. Does this one has it as well? I gues for spear fishing is not that useful but is a must for me while underwater. Thanks!!
Such an awesome vid. I’ve been on the edge of what new camera to get because my GoPro is constantly giving me issues. Thank you so much for sharing your opinion. Also it would be awesome if you could do a video on your opinion of all the bleaching happening to all the corals. I know this year is El Niño which is supposed to one of the hottest years and it’s just insane how hot it is. I didn’t even wear a wet suit this year while I was in the keys and I only noticed one set of coral head bleaching which was south side by the marquesas.
Hi - thanks for the video. I have this camera and I am terrified of using it underwater in case I have it set up wrong. I can't find anything actually explaining what accessories are needed. I have the adventure combo - do I need to buy a special lens cap or something?
Hey Aaron, another helpful video. Thanks. I'm considering a Gheenoe for lobstering, crabbing and light spearfishing. Could you make a video on how you enter and exit yours safely? I'm sure there must be some tricks and useful tips you can offer.
I just climb over the rail! but depends on what model you get, the smaller ones don't hold as much weight obviously. just check the specs on each. I'm a small guy 150 lbs. but both Madeleine and I can crawl in on the same side without issue.
Great video as always Aaron! You are an inspiration to me and many out there I believe. I’m a subscriber from an island called Bahrain. I spearfish a lot here and compare my experiences catching mangrove snappers and groupers. When are you going to review your repower of your new 225 engines? Please make one as we have been waiting for a video of your derigging and rigging experience, what fuel consumption, cruise and max speeds, time to plane from hole shot you are getting now. I always can’t wait for your next video, keep on keepin on brother and I hope to visit and get a charter out with you some time soon.
I have heard of it! but have never visited! and I hope to get to it soon, been very very busy lately. haven't had time to test props with the new motors yet but I will!
Pretty impressive camera you got there! And I agree with you (including myself) the vast majority of people would just use the auto setting. I’d say you definitely upped your game!
Not worried about it falling off if you bump into anything underwater? We have a lot of kelp in SoCal so wondering if I got caught a little if the camera would come off.
Great video. I've just started snorkelling and I'm looking at this camera. How is the footage straight from the camera for snorkelling as I'm not into editing. I'm also looking at the insta 360 ace pro. I'm not sure what one to get.
Ugh. Our GoPro 9 is a pain. The 5 and 7 weren’t any better. We’ve lost so much footage over the years with over heating and battery issues. Editing videos for our last trip, we’re missing files. It also kept overheating and wouldn’t turn back for awhile on so we missed some stuff. We’re over GoPro and searching for an alternative.

I immediately saw the difference.. Even with the filters I've used in the same type of water I never saw that degree of a depth of color like that.. Nice.. Can you give an idea the mask you use with the mount.. Have a heck of time finding a decent one.
yea its was night and day for me, and I shoot with a go mask panorama. the only mask I've found that does hit my forehead
Your videos are looking Awesome here lately!
theres a reason why!
Im actually really excited about this camera. As someone who isnt invested in Gopro I have to choose between the two and lately all Im hearing in videos I watch is how frustrated people are with their Gopro's. The price seems pretty decent too.
Couldn’t agree more!
Your videos are always super colorful, thanks for sharing
I thought so!
@@KeyWestWaterman when you post me and my husband are so happy , tv is sh@# so UA-cam it is for our downtime . You guys are great , thanks
Super sick! Excited to see more!
More to come!
will you make diving comparison with hero 11 ? amazing review :) and I love your diving movies because not many people test cam in real diving situations
It’s no comparison for me. It’s why I’m switching
Good work dude. Nice to see your quality efforts paying off 🤙
🙏
Video looks great! What are your opinions on the audio for that camera? Looking forward to trying something new.
still haven't even gotten that far, been mainly concerned with the underwater stuff
What was the depth of the slomo grouper shot ? If that was more than 30 feet, the colors are amazing !
55-60 If I remember correctly.
@@KeyWestWaterman Pushing the advertised depth limit!
I have only just now read this about
the osmo action 4 when scuba
diving."When diving below 16 meters
with the Osmo Action 4 and the Scuba
Diving mode activates due to pressure,
the usual shutter/record button is
disabled. In this case, you'll use the
Quick Switch (QS) button to start
and stop recording. The QS button is
designed to work under high-pressure
conditions, allowing you to control
recording without relying on the
shutter/record button. So, even deep
underwater, the QS button becomes
your main control for starting and
stopping video recording".So this
button becomes a universal button
to power on, select video or photo,
then take a picture or start shooting a
video. I checked the DJI manual and it
doesnt clearly say how this is achieved.
I checked with dji support and they said you need to decide wether you will be taking photos or videos past 16 meters before the pressure cutoff kicks in.Then you can only use the camera as a start and stop. You cant play back videos on a dive or scroll to other presets to bracket different fstops and iso settings etc.
Wow - that’s a serious game-changer! The color is awesome, as is the motion stabilizer!!
It really is!
Colors are super good compared to what you have been filming with. Clarity seems better as well. Beautiful job!
stoked with it!
Curious as to what you are using to attach it to your mask. I looked at the different combos and don’t see what you would use to attach the camera.
Just moved to Key West and am really impressed with the quality of your videos and the depth of your knowledge. Keep ‘em coming.
I showed in the video, it has a magnetic clip exclusive to DJI, or if I use the housing it attaches with a bolt just like a gopro.
Wow! Loved your feedback! (Found you from Reddit)
love to hear it!
Great review; can you give us an idea of what kind of depths your underwater footage was at?
deeper spots were about 50-60
What did u do to improve ur breath hold and diving?(you should do a Q and a vid some day)
I'll be honestly I've been diving almost 70 since day one, I've never done much training.
A little off topic... lol😁
I get her out every chance I get, 12 1/2 years old I've had her since 6 weeks. we've been through it all!
Can't wait!!👍👍👍
haha more to come!
Those drive by’s with tipsy had me laughing pretty good 😂
haha I watched them like 400 times and laughed my ass off!
Fantastic content. I really enjoy all of your content. Keep up the great work.
Thanks, will do!
So glad you made this video! I hate my GoPro Hero 8 Black because it has so many issues, but I looked at every other option on the market, and nothing seemed worth it. I was just about to upgrade to a Hero 11 this week, but thanks to this video, you made my choice a lot easier, and saved me some headaches and a bunch of money!
love to hear it! I'm thrilled with the colors, can't wait to dig a little deeper!
Same with my hero 7 black AND the hero 7 black of my gf, sooo many issues it's crazy
I said to myself never ever go pro again.
@@riderpsychopate I'm just glad that there's finally another option worth getting!
Still going strong man. Note to self, get back into watching your content.
Onwards and upwards 😍
🙏
Only Key West Waterman can do a 10 min review of a camera and I'll watch every minute of it lol.
haha appreciate it!
That camera looks awesome, been planning on picking up a second camera. Seems like this one may be the one I go with.
I've been pretty happy with it, will check back in
Good information. Does does become a pain to put GoPro in and out the waterproof housing to change batteries
yea it def does
Hi, loved your review. But as a diver I'm missing the automatic record button with the camera switched off that Go Pro has. Does this one has it as well? I gues for spear fishing is not that useful but is a must for me while underwater. Thanks!!
Yea this one has one button on as well.
Hope they hook you up cause you deserve it. Thats a decent camera. What I like is more competition and no monopoly which has been the case.
yup!
Just got this based on this video! What are the settings you use for diving?
I mainly shoot 4k 30, wide FOV, auto everything else so far. it's done me justice.
@@KeyWestWaterman thanks!
That is amazing looks really good
stoked on it!
Have u ever used the hero 9 GoPro?
I have not, went from 8 to 11
@@KeyWestWaterman how do u like the 8 and 11
Sorry. I’m trying to start a channel like yours one day lol
So is the stabilization and horizon feature already set in the auto setting? BTW I'm loving my new GROVER gun!
it is a sub setting, easy to change in the same screen with frame rate.
Great info.. New to channel...First time i have watched someone review a camera for what i use them for... cheers!
welcome to the channel and love to hear it!
have you noticed warmer water temps down there like i've read about?
yup!
I didn’t even wear a wet suit this year while I was in the keys and I only noticed one set of coral head bleaching which was south side by the marquesas.
love to hear it! and actually filmed some coral bleaching stuff today.
Hi - thanks for the video. I have this camera and I am terrified of using it underwater in case I have it set up wrong. I can't find anything actually explaining what accessories are needed. I have the adventure combo - do I need to buy a special lens cap or something?
i'm not sure what exactly you mean, its water proof up to 59 ft out of the box. or if you go deeper it has a case.
Excellent review. Cheers
Love the videos. For depths of 8-10 metres do you think there is noticeable difference between the Action 3 and Action 4?
Do you ever use a red filter to pick up the underwater colors?
no, I've never been a fan of them having to constantly change based on depth and vis.
I’d say you definitely upped your game!
can't wait to see what else we capture with it!
Definitely see a difference
It’s wild
Not worried about it falling off if you bump into anything underwater?
We have a lot of kelp in SoCal so wondering if I got caught a little if the camera would come off.
Nope, that clip is rock solid you’d be surprised how sturdy it is.
@@KeyWestWaterman sick ordered one!!!!
yeah that camera is sick
Stoked on it!
Great video. I've just started snorkelling and I'm looking at this camera. How is the footage straight from the camera for snorkelling as I'm not into editing. I'm also looking at the insta 360 ace pro. I'm not sure what one to get.
I don’t do any back end editing or color grading. This is how it looks from the camera.
