@FootDoctorZach thank you for the expertise and free advice over the countless years on your videos. This video was extremely useful to a flat footer like myself. Great info!!!
@FootDoctorZach, would you be able to make a review on the PUMA Eliminate NITRO SQD (a Handballshoe) or is there a different channel that review these from a profesional standpoint?
As a pro basketball player overseas. I've been using custom insoles/orthotics since 2017. I lost them during the pandemic and developed serious patellar tendinopathy. I found them again and knee pain slowly went away. I'm back to basketball now. Custom insoles help. Great content Doc.
My life in sneakers has two great epochs. Before subscribing to this channel and after subscribing to this channel. There’s no place anywhere to get content like this.
Always love these type of videos! As a very wide footer with ultra flat feet, wearing orthotics really eliminated my medial foot pain whenever im just walking or playing basketball. It was really hard for me to play or run a long time before discovering orthotics.
I have slightly wide, completely flat feet. Just found shoes to fit(for basketball). Orthotics made me feel like I was too far off the ground. I pretty much only wear flip-flops all day every day except when on the court lol. I'm 40, sometimes I'll randomly limp when walking for a few steps. 😂
Been using custom orthotics for around 15 years now and they definitely make a difference. I had severe knee pain, was completely flat footed and severe pronation and over the course of a year or so it fixed my arch, my knee pain was completely gone and no pronation. Custom orthotics will fix the imbalance of having a longer leg, arch support, etc which fixes in a lot of cases knee pain, lower back pain, hip pain. They even fix minor things like high pressure points on your step.
Not trying to downplay your great improvement and success in battling the pain, just wanted to point out that your flatfoot and weak arch is not fixxed and never will be fixxed by adding an orthotic. It is better SUPPORTED and you are not experiencing the same pain as before, your arch is still weak making you have a flatfoot tho. If you want to get rid of a weak arch you need to do exercises to train your feet. Try to grab a towel with your feet 5 sets of 20 a day, roll your foot over a tennisball or a fascia ball regularly, walk barefoot and especially learn different ways of walking. Walking only by focusing to lift up your knee in front of you high and letting everything else flow, or walking by only pushing yourself of hard against the ground (as in kicking the ground), walking by only focusing on your calves (focus your contact of the foot to be from the very end of the heel to the very tippy top of your toes), walking by only focusing on your glutes. Not sure what's up with your longer leg as I don't have the diagnosis for it, but there's a few different reasons people could have a longer leg so I'm not gonna assume anything here. Wishing you best of luck in your future fight against the pain, hoping maybe my little exercise of grabbing a towel and trying to walk differently can help a bit if interested :)
I love this! I used to work in a shoe store and I did courses on how to do gait analysis and the difference between support that shoes provide. People were always so happy to hear that I knew a lot of about feet and shoes. Majority of people wear bad shoes or have foot pain! All walks of life.
Thanks for this! I'm a pickleballer and got Asics SS FF3 and had occasional pain on the outside of the middle of my foot and pain in my ankles after long play sessions, so I switched to Babolat JM3 and the Ortholite insoles are amazing! I can still play hard and not feel the wear and tear as much.
Doc you are the best, appreciate all the help you give folks with foot issues. Ive been wearing custom orthotics for the past 10 years due to a fasciitis, heel and achilles pain, all at the same time, because of tennis. I tell everyone with foot pains to get them as my feet don’t hurt anymore after standing, walking or playing a lot of tennis for a long time like they used to. The caveat is finding shoes that fit them but NB and Jordans tend to be wide enough to fit them. Great video and appreciate the information.
For myself the custom orthotics works better, however dishing out $200-300 a pair is tough to swallow. I did buy the ones you recommended, they are good and I can buy 4-6 of them for the price of a single custom. It’s much easier to not have to switch them out with every pair of shoes. The manufacturer and design of the shoe is more important imo. I bought a pair of Nike because it was supposed to be the most comfortable cushiony shoes. I don’t like them, I’ll stick with the old man New Balance shoes.
I was very skeptical but over the last year I’ve been getting a lot of foot strain/ pain. I got the move game day and the support is so much better than the stock insoles. Wearing the LeBron 21 and I did always feel my foot struggled for a solid surface to push off of and the move have really helped. No more foot strain.
I play basketball all the time, and I have recently used move insoles in all my shoes. They help me out a lot. Sometimes, depending on the shoe, it feels weird or painful if I tie them a certain way. Because of that, I would have taken them out and put the stock insoles back in. Now they have the new baseline insoles. I'm going to check those out because for some shoes I don't need that plate that's in some insoles.
Can confirm the different leg sizes, in my case its my feet. My right foot gets lace irritation, tailor bunion, and prominent styloid first versus the left foot. I combat this by getting my true size and tying my right shoe a tad bit losser specifically in the top of the shoe because in my experience the pressure towards the top of the shoe from tight laces contribute to the pain factors happening on the lower insides of the shoe. Hope this can help somebody out there with the same issue 🤙
I have flat over probaned feet. Custom orthotics have helped (however they are very rigid) but I’m still having constant on and off issues with the plantar fascia. Very frustrating. Due to their rigidity I also find it stops a lot of the immediate underfoot cushioning in a lot of the basketball shoes Would using the power step bridge for basketball games and keeping the custom orthotic for everyday use be something worth considering. Their pro option also has some heel cushion. Also exploring of poor ankle mobility could be a contributing factor.
I have a neutral arch that collapses and rebounds normally. I can say any rigid semi-rigid supportive orthotics makes me supinate or just laterally slide off the foot bed of the shoe(mostly runners) a lot more. personally less arch or flexible type keeps that from happening. also i lack toe extension and ankle DF which causes compensation. I will laterally push off and rotate sheering the upper lateral portions of my outsoles. Thats my PT assessment of myself 😂
You should do a vid on why luka is still wearing the luka 1s instead of the 2s or 3s. I would be very interested to see what you have to say about that and potentially why he is doing that
Hello there! I have a question: I am a professional basketball player and I need some good shoes mainly for practice. I rely on speed, strength and agility (pg) and I love the li-ning gammas, but I play on a court that is also for handball. And they use a sticky substance on the floor and it is there also when we train. The thing is, no li-ning shoe can bite through it, and I found some success with nike shoes, and 361•. What do you recommend? I was thinking between sabrina 2 and ja2, but I don’t know what else would work.
I'm a club tennis player and I wear custom made orthotics and was just thinking today of getting new orthos to use in each shoes I use to play and even walk around in the city 😂 was wondering if it was worth it and then came this video! Thanks!
Great video on a topic not always mentioned in performance footwear. The focus often always shifts to the tech in the foot and not the fundamental bed that supports and houses the footbed. What are your opinions on the new wave of barefoot shoe and barefoot movement in general? My opinion on them is kinda mixed, I see why you would need it in perhaps movements that you want to mobilise and feel the ground more and give foot splay, but at the same time in athletic movement, it’s unrealistic and unhealthy to make the unbraced flatten out foot bear the full brunt of a very sudden impulse of force.
Hey Zach, greetings from Des Moines University! The yushuai 18 ultra v2 low is available on Poizon for under $100. these look really interesting, would be great if you could give them a look. Your videos are great!
Hi Doc, great video, thanks! Do you have an opinion on whether or not you should select an orthotic that doesn’t change your existing heel to toe drop? Many orthotics I’ve seen drastically stack the heel, giving an extreme drop
Hi Doc! Just wanna say that this video does help to better understand the potential risk prevention when you do choose to use an orthotic. Since discovering and actually using Move insoles, I have been a believer. I don't know if "placebo" also plays some part in it.
Got custom orthotics, but they didn't work. Got other ones, which support my feet lightly on the lateral side. That makes me wonder if basketball shoes are built in a neutral position, or if some enhance pronation/suppination
Is there a difference between the Powerstep Pinnacle and the Powerstep Pulse? Off their website the two insole look the exact same besides the obvious color difference and the pulse being $5 more than the pinnacle
Always top notch! Can you suggest an orthotic or tip for someone with one smaller foot, to help fill that shoe more to prevent the forefoot moving side to side (and the shoe from needing to be yanked so tight that it cinches the shoe). Using the GP Challenge 1’s here and had to size up for length.
I tried wearing them when I was 20. Went to docs, stores, online for years and never found a comfortable pair. I'm 40 now, still don't wear them, still playing basketball like an acrobat. I get calloused pinky toe bottoms I have to clip off a few times a month. No big deal 😂
Have you changed your mind about move insoles? if Im not mistaking you recommended them some time ago, but I didnt hear you talk about them for a while 🤔
When PowerStep came out with the Bridge I found myself using it more - That and the GDP are pretty similar but I like the foam in the Bridge more- Move is still fine, havent changed my opinion on them I just use the Bridge more now instead and still the Pinnacle when I need more control/ support but I still think they're good
Any orthotic thats actually doing something is going to elevate you a bit in the shoe- it depends if you can tolerate it or not- also make sure the stock insole is out of it before putting the orthotic in
I have very flat feet as a kid they put me into some ridiculous leather boots with ankle straps ala Forrest Gump not quite so bad😂😩😂 now I am a chef on my feet often. Could orthotics help with foot pain???
Zach I’m seeing a bunch of videos saying cushioned/curved shoes are bad and make your feet lazy and you just need the scam barefoot shoes. Care to comment?!
I always use orthotics. It help my feet reduce wear & tear after a rigorous basketball game & extensive 1 hour of walking. After that I soak my feet in a bucket of ice. The next day, they are ready to go again.💪⛹️🚶

since you've made your own recovery slides, are you planning to create your own orthotics? i think that would be superb..

I got some Superfeets yesterday because I could no longer take my right heel pain. I have a high arch foot.
Yes.
LOVE the evidence based medicine! Thoughts on PowerStep Pinnacle vs. Pinnacle Maxx?
Max just has a flat bottom so a bit more control but bulkier and fits in less shoes- the actual arch on it is the same as the Pinnacle though
Can you do a review of the new anta swagger 1.0 or anta edge scalpel 1.0
Hi Doc, great video, thanks! Do you have an opinion on whether or not you should select an orthotic that doesn’t change your existing heel to toe drop? Many orthotics I’ve seen drastically stack the heel, giving an extreme drop
That’s person dependent - I don’t love jacking the heel up in general because I think it can lead to a tight Achilles but some need it
@ thanks for answering!
Could you do a Converse All Star BB Shift CX Mid Top please 🙏

Oh for sure it does
I'm a cheap guy, can you teach us how to make our own custom insole? thanks
As a physical therapist, we love to say: “it depends.”
Only the Sith deal with absolutes lol
Hi good day Can you review Chuck 70s hi .
Can you review the GameDay baseline insoles
From what ive seen they're just insole replacements so maybe ill give them a look later on
@FootDoctorZach ok thanks
Got custom orthotics, but they didn't work. Got other ones, which support my feet lightly on the lateral side.
That makes me wonder if basketball shoes are built in a neutral position, or if some enhance pronation/suppination
Does this mean that basketball shoes don't come with good insoles? Will removing the insole and adding an orthotic change the performance of the shoe?
Is there a difference between the Powerstep Pinnacle and the Powerstep Pulse? Off their website the two insole look the exact same besides the obvious color difference and the pulse being $5 more than the pinnacle
Pulse has a lower, flatter heel
@@FootDoctorZach thanks!
What’s better don issue 6 or kai 1 speed?
so would you recommend powerstep bridge for a relatively inflexible foot with a reasonable arch for tennis?
We need the victory insole review

Can you suggest an orthotic or tip for someone with one smaller foot, to help fill that shoe more to prevent the forefoot moving side to side (and the shoe from needing to be yanked so tight that it cinches the shoe). Using the GP Challenge 1’s here and had to size up for length.
Just a custom w custom fill
What should I do if I have a wide foot (2E-3E) but have high arches? Also have slight knock knees and grew up naturally pigeon toed…
The move game day pro insole made arches / mid foot area hurt more than without it when I was playing volleyball? Why is that?
You just don’t tolerate that particular mold
hey doc do gs pairs and reuglar men sizing have a performance difference? im a small size and just wondering
need a lli ning liren 5 review please!
How do you determine if you need rigidity or softness in your orthotic?
Trying them on under doc supervision
Hey, would you say 3D scans are better or plaster molds, when making a custom orthotic?
Doesn’t matter as long as the capture is accurate
I tried wearing them when I was 20. Went to docs, stores, online for years and never found a comfortable pair. I'm 40 now, still don't wear them, still playing basketball like an acrobat. I get calloused pinky toe bottoms I have to clip off a few times a month. No big deal 😂
Great informative video!
Question, I'm currently using Move Game Day insole, is there a better option in terms of cushion?
Not if they are doing well for you - in terms of pure cushion my favorite is the powerstep bridge but that’s just me
Do vktry insoles count as Orthotics?
I dont see why not
@@FootDoctorZach thanks
