I would love to see you look into the Pelican's medical staff more in-depth. The team has sustained an unprecedented amount of season-ending injuries even preceding AD. Also most of the games missed this season were due to strains and spasms and soreness, something I dont see affecting other teams like it affects the Pelicans. At one point this season 90% of the salary was injured, something has to be going on.
Interestingly, in 2016, they were regarded as having one of the worst/most under-funded training staffs. Then in 2019, when David Griffin came in, he brought with him the highly regarded Aaron Nelson (of Suns fame). He had a major role in keeping Steve Nash (with a creaky back and in his 30s) healthy and playing at an MVP level. Zion in particular did not seem to be pleased with some of the protocol Nelson gave him (bursts etc.) So they demoted Nelson in 2023, and... yeah, it might be even worse now.
I just think about the force jolting through all of his joints every time he makes an explosive move. It was manageable when he was 16 and made of magic and lighter, but now that he's overweight and probably not adhering to a diet, his body is reacting appropriately
I remember similar stuff being said about Derrick Rose. He would make wild plays but when he landed, he wouldn't absorb the impact and just straight legged it. With no bending. Then he had a few low body injuries.
@@littlewicky1it essentially happens to EVERY player that is CRAZY explosive. Zion, D Rose, Penny, T Mac, Larry Johnson, Shawn Kemp, Blake Griffin, even Grant Hill - save for LeBron, every freak-athlete type we’ve ever seen in basketball has sustained career changing/ending injuries. His Junior Year High School Highlights are fckn bonkers. Like of course your body isn’t going to be able to sustain that for a decade-plus.
I actually thought, for Zion, he looked pretty good at the beginning the season, compared to past years. Me personally, I question his drive as a professional athlete. He didn't get to NY so he's not in it mentally. Either legit or prolonged, he doesn't have the drive to stay on the floor right now.
The Bucks had the same totally foreseeable problem when they drafted Tractor Traylor. Everyone assumed since Barkley carried extra weight without issue, anyone could. In fact, if you go back and look at Barkley in his prime, his face looks pudgy, but he has the body of a middle linebacker, not a chubster
It's almost like the Pelicans strategy of using the Saints training staff, who are bad by NFL standards, is an awful idea for the NBA. Wowie. Who coulda thought.
They stopped doing that a few years ago and each has their own training staff now. However, the more things change, the more they stay the same with the Pelicans! I have never seen a team so decimated by injuries! This team is cursed!
I'm pretty sure the "injury" Zion is dealing with... is the fact that he just doesn't play basketball for anything besides the money. Dude's clearly not invested in maintaining his weight. They basically had to beg him to lose weight and during the offseason when he posted a video, it was clear he put all that weight back on. Dude doesn't care.
Get the man a psychiatrist, dudes got an addiction to food 100. Will never be a great player unless he can realise that as an athlete 95% of your food is fuel and fuel only. Have your cheat days but not every day lmao
@@CinisterMinister Why comment on something you know nothing about? His weight has been a massive problem and is known to be the cause of his injuries. They are currently having to offer him incentives to lose weight.
He already did. Barkley and shaq called him out multiple times. If that doesnt motivate you then idk what will. He's got access to more trainers/nutrionists than barkleys generation ever had. At some point its on him to seek out the help
@JJ_5289 Exactly. Zion has no excuse. He has access to all of the resources in the world, and the minimum requirement for his job is to stay in shape. A NBA player would have to consume a lot of food to be out of shape, considering how much energy they burn. It's not like the average person who is sedentary.
His contract has so many outs, he won't make a majority of his money at this rate. Weight aside, he has always looked incredibly stiff, even when he walks. Like he needs a specialist in hips and mobility. Hopefully he figures stuff out, not just for our entertainment, but for his life. (It remind me of Steph getting hurt constantly until he reworked his body mechanics and became a core strength beast)
Not many athletes like to do ham curls or calf work. They certainly do not know musculature and how to hit the correct muscle. As a PT we had a rash of ACL's in girls high school soccer. We got them on a weight training regimen and the injuries disappeared. So important to weight train and STRETCH early in your sport career. Zion should stop playing until next season. Always wise to take time to heal.
Certain people are just too explosive for their body to handle. He has to learn how to play slow like Lebron or Vince Carter. Hate on Lebron all you want, he has been starting for like 20 years. Cant go full throttle all the time.
You're comparing a 40yr old to a 24yr old. LeBron at Zion's age was not playing slow, nor did he coast or load manage. LeBron only missed about 20 games from age 19-24. LeBron was playing like a freight train in almost every game he played in until he hit 36 years old. LeBron has only had 3 significant injuries in his 22 year career and all of them occured after he turned 34.
If its one thing I cant forget when he had the corn star drama was a photo she put out there in Zions bathroom at his house. There were soda can(s) in the bathroom, a high performance athlete drinking so much soda to have cans left over in the bathroom. He has to many bad habits, corn stars & soda pop included. He's already missed some of the incentives in his contract because he doesnt take care of himself.
Nah dude a porn star in the house would do nothing but help your cardio. Let's be real. Also c'mon it's pornography, no need to constantly censor yourself just to appease UA-cam
So many injuries and missed games. Its hard to envision these getting any better as he ages. As you stated, the chronic nature of this particular injury is very worrisome.
Once you pulled a hammy, its never the same; its more likely to be reinjured, and for such an explosive athlete its at even more risk. Plus with lingering scar tissue there from previous pulls, it leads to pain for a long time, years, further hampering performance
Yeah if he's training and eating the way he should be, he'd be built like LeBron. LeBron being obsessed with his health is why he's still built like a freight train at 40.
Bio mechanics is actually what I started to think as well. Just like Joel, Greg Oden. These big dudes who play with a lot of power and force to there joints and muscles...it doesn't line up with having a long career. Basically Zion needs to lose a lot of the weight he has. He puts a lot of torque on every muscle/ligament in his lower body. So basically Zion has to be shown how to throttle himself down. Play with more finesse. That or lose more weight.
Hamstrings are tough! Tore the same one twice…second time it rolled down to the back of my knee.I had the SF49er doctor..aggressive pt etc…after three years it was career ending. Still acts up after 20 years. Certainly not at fit as Zion…he’s explosive….im just trying to walk!
Great video as always! I noticed a small mix-up when you were discussing therapeutic injections. You mentioned PRP but then referred to platelet-poor plasma (PPP). Just to clarify, the PPP layer contains little to no healing molecules. It’s the buffy coat, or PRP, that holds most of the healing molecules, like growth factors.
That Pels franchise is cursed. The Saints too. The injuries both teams have had is insane. They should trade Zion before he gets another injury. Right now you can at least get a young prospect and a couple firsts.
Would you be interested in doing a video on the right oblique tears of Orlando's Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner? Zion only wants a team that completely believes in him, but he and Bi were hesitant about building the Pelicans team, which made Zion dissatisfied. Frankly speaking, every time he was injured, he rarely happened on the court. It felt like he was expressing his Unable to play with bi, and the same problem may be the same with bi. In conclusion, I think the team’s problem is that there is no clear direction for building the team, and there is no system to let the two of them leave the team. The Pelicans simply don‘t have a leader. , just wasting their youth
Great breakdown. They should not push him to come back. He needs a personal chef and a personal trainer to keep his calories and nutrition in check. The muscles on his body are clearly not strong enough for his huge body and the way he plays the game. He will either need to change the way he plays to a style closer to Shaq and Barkley or he will need to slim down a lot if he wants to play like KD. But it doesn't look like he can do both at this point. Btw - either style is awesome, he should be able to still have a great career.
That's true, the post up/ back to the basket style has been so marginalized that even big guys don't wanna play that way, everyone wants to break ankles and pop 3's, even when body types aren't compatible with that style.
Doc how do you feel about PRP"s? I've seen mixed reviews and i know there is some research that suggest they don't always work as well as people think. In my opinion anything that's helping promote healing sees as it should be a win for the body especially since it is a relative conservative treatment option.
Thank goodness his contract has all sorts of qualifiers so they will not be on the hook for probably about 40% of his contract. He will only continue to accelerate his time on the injury list as he ages. I would imagine his current contract will be his last.
Can you do a demarvion overshow def player for cowboys !? He had a really bad injury on his right leg where they say his knee will have to be fix and I’ve read multiple ligaments are torn but he just came back from acl tear on his left knee. I just hope he heal and play again but want him to be healthy in the end great player. Thanks ! Love the vids !
Can we get a Keving Durant and Bradley beal injuries breakdown. These guys are struggling to stay on the court this season for the Suns and its getting the point where the season is sliding down hill fast.
No one is more accountable for Zion than Zion himself. Unfortunately, Zion has shown to be prone to injuries in the NBA. This also happened to "Little Penny." Penny Hardaway was like 80 lbs less than Zion at the same height. Penny was drafted #3, but you can argue #1 b/c he was traded for Chris Webber, who was the #1 pick in 1993. Penny started his career just like Zion -> BRILLIANTLY with HOF play and potential. Unfortunately, knee injuries took Penny's expectations away. This also happened to Greg Oden, who was drafted #1 in 2007 listed at 7" feet 275lbs. He ended up being injury prone early in his career and eventually had to retire from the NBA 7 years into his career. To me, that's what makes Shaquille O'neal sooooooo special. He was a taller and bigger version of Zion with the same tenacity and playing style as Zion, yet was able to have an 18 year career with close to NO major injuries‼️ Let's not forget when he was playing as a rookie in Orlando he was over 300lbs flying, running, diving for the ball very aggressively. In LA during his championship years his weight was over 350 lbs and still extremely athletic with minimal or no injuries‼️ Some people b/c of genetics are prone to injuries‼️
Dude clearly doesn't even want to play basketball. He's probably pressured and sees the easy money. Basketball is a great sport, but not at the pro level where all you need is to hit the generic lottery and they'll give you a shot. If you have skill and discipline that's just a bonus
I know about the memes of him being fat and all that but for real he just needs to lose weight. That extra 20 pounds does a number on your tendons and joints.
Can you make a video about Franz Wagner's injury? It is somehow awkward that, with such rare injuries, especially as basketball-specific ones, two players of the same team manifest those with such temporal overlap. Did they do something harmful in practice? Because I highly doubt that pre-game workouts, which fatigue the obliques by using loaded or resistance exercises, benefit injury prevention (see Inside the NBA pre-game interview of Franz (ORL-NYK))…
I was one of the very few that said Ja should have been #1 in that draft. I got hated on to say the least. Zion has inverted knees and has had knee issues in college. He has been a risk even before his trouble with weight. His ignorance with his weight is only making it worse for him. Recently, there have been a lot of circumstances that point to all this guaranteed mega money being problematic for the sport. Guys just do not care, they'd rather collect that paycheck to sit on the sidelines. If he came back healthy and thinner, like say 260, it'd be a nice story to unfold. Unfortunately, every injury he's had, he's came back out of shape, only to be injured again. He's a risk, not a risk a GM or franchise should be willing to take anymore. He has proven he does not care to stay healthy.
What is Dr. Sutterer opinion of muscle pulls off the bone how that happen and should an athlete call it a career after recovery as he or she may never be able to get back to peak form like Yohan Blake,
Doctor Sutterer, quick question for you! I have scar tissue on my achilles and know I need to get it dealt with. What's the best type of person or practice to reach out to for this? Just general sports physio? Or is there something specific that works great? I've been putting it off for so long because I don't know where to reach out.
I think he still has plenty of value in him. Just not at his current contract. Everyone would take a chance on him at 10m/y. Same with ben simmons but on a vet minimum.
Zion has the same size as Robert Tractor Traylor and tries to play like a PG. The human body doesn't have the ability to cushion that. He was always going to get chronic injuries unless he played a slow PF game like Charles Oakley.
@@TeemoQuinton I don't blame anybody else except for Zion himself. He is just mentally weak. He doesn't know how to restrain himself (or doesn't want to) to become a responsible athlete.
It's not rocket science... You've given him millions upon millions of dollars that he'll still get regardless if he plays. Therefore you've taken away all his motivation. One of the biggest busts in NBA history.
This is just sad. He has already lost 5 years of his career, and god only knows how many more. It’s even more sad to think that the injuries he’s got are pretty much his own fault
Zion needs to get his weight down to around 230-235 that young man built like a tank when he should be built like suv. His body keeps telling him and he won’t listen.

Morning Doc! Can you please analyze the Scottie Barnes foot injury? Seems like a non-fracture Lisfranc injury but what the heck do I know?
8:56 that mic thump scared me lol
😂😂😂
I recall last season or season before last that he said that he didn’t like stretching which would partially explain his persistent hamstring issues.
Thank goodness his contract has all sorts of qualifiers so they will not be on the hook for probably about 40% of his contract. He will only continue to accelerate his time on the injury list as he ages. I would imagine his current contract will be his last.
Question: Would you call Zion an incredible athlete or not? I used to think he was. Now I’m wondering how to define that.
Good question actually
Officially add him to all the great players who never reached their full potential due to injuries.
scottie barnes breakdown pls! … jones fracture? he turned his ankle and couldn’t feel his foot- i had an injury similar to it.
Xrays negative so it's likely ligaments only. Midfoot area is concerning...lisfranc non-fracture maybe? :(
Can you do a demarvion overshow def player for cowboys !? He had a really bad injury on his right leg where they say his knee will have to be fix and I’ve read multiple ligaments are torn but he just came back from acl tear on his left knee. I just hope he heal and play again but want him to be healthy in the end great player. Thanks ! Love the vids !
Dr. thoughts on olando magic forwards paolo and franz both getting the same injuries? right oblique tears?
I remember the Zion lottery and how Pelicans won it. Grizzlies were fortunate to get the second pick for Ja.
He is like Shawn Kemp...... Orlando Shawn Kemp. Lol
Can we get a Keving Durant and Bradley beal injuries breakdown. These guys are struggling to stay on the court this season for the Suns and its getting the point where the season is sliding down hill fast.
The video should be called “Zion being Zion”
I remember Dr, when you covered his health and gate when he first entered the NBA.
When you sit on the couch and eat nothing but ladels full of pancake batter, tends to not go well for your well being
Where’s the Randy Moss video?
Dude clearly doesn't even want to play basketball. He's probably pressured and sees the easy money. Basketball is a great sport, but not at the pro level where all you need is to hit the generic lottery and they'll give you a shot. If you have skill and discipline that's just a bonus
At 24 years old he should be a superstar by now.
I know about the memes of him being fat and all that but for real he just needs to lose weight. That extra 20 pounds does a number on your tendons and joints.
Ironically the most excitement over Zion was his time at Duke, even when he broke his shoe. He has missed so much time in the NBA☹️.
Chris Paul also had that hamstring injuries that shaped his whole career. He's 1st ballot HoF though, Zion on the other hand, is done.
That dude sitting back getting paid
Struggling to stay healthy or struggling to stay in shape?
Some people just get hurt and continue to do so. Different staffs for both organizations.
He has a professional career in being injured
Where’s the OverShown vid? Doc he tore every ligament in his knee but the LCL Monday night vs Bengals
What is Dr. Sutterer opinion of muscle pulls off the bone how that happen and should an athlete call it a career after recovery as he or she may never be able to get back to peak form like Yohan Blake,
Pels should have traded him a long time ago. He's clearly not taking his job seriously.
Is hamstring related to weight issues. Could this apply to Reece James for Chelsea FC
Could you talk about Jonathon Brooks? Or what multiple ACL tears look like and the effects it has?
He reminds me of Greg Oden…if healthy, he is one of the most dominant players in the game…
imagine zion if he had a strong work ethic. dude prolly coulda easily been top 10 all time
Doctor Sutterer, quick question for you! I have scar tissue on my achilles and know I need to get it dealt with. What's the best type of person or practice to reach out to for this? Just general sports physio? Or is there something specific that works great? I've been putting it off for so long because I don't know where to reach out.
Do you think this is something he can treat or does it seem like there’s something anatomical that’s creating the issues?
still surprised you're not on any teams med staff
I said it before, he needs to be in the 230 to 235 range to stay healthy
being a new orleans sports fan is hard this year
dude is following the footsteps of embiid without the accolades 😂
"Looks like Shaq and I had a baby..." -Charles Barkley
He's late on the Scottie Barnes video
He's being traded, guarantee it. He's staying out so he remains healthy to pass a physical cos playing him is too big of an injury risk. Book it
dude got the bag. he's not motivated anymore since
Do one on Trevor zegras of the Anaheim ducks NHL
Keeping my Zion stock. He's box office when he's on the court. He's still young.
I think he still has plenty of value in him. Just not at his current contract.
Everyone would take a chance on him at 10m/y.
Same with ben simmons but on a vet minimum.
That the issue stupid. He can't in his youth he has no chance of it the older he gets
There was an injury in The bengals cowboys game btw doc
Zion has the same size as Robert Tractor Traylor and tries to play like a PG. The human body doesn't have the ability to cushion that. He was always going to get chronic injuries unless he played a slow PF game like Charles Oakley.
Pelicans is a martyr for not trading zion after giving him max. Should have traded him a long time ago
you have made these videos about both zion and embiid, but not kawhi?
Not gonna do the Overshown injury?
Going to your sponsor is like going to a commercial.. so I change the channel.
Zion is eating himself out of New Orleans.
Couldn't do it faster. Dude needs a real NBA health and training staff, not the Saints Discount Doctors [Doctorate Not Required]
Can you do a Jarred Vanderbilt video?
Hundreds of Millions of dollars at stake and he can't lose a few pounds to secure the bag is mind blowing
Zion needs to get his weight down to around 230-235 that young man built like a tank when he should be built like suv. His body keeps telling him and he won’t listen.
