I love how the tone completely 180's at 2:00, the song knows that if you are still in the mission by this point you stayed to fight.
Yeah its like crimsons gets from confident and cocky to worried about you
@@GTAVALE That part always comes when Crimson 5 says "Crimson 1, are you seeing what i'm seeing?" so it's right at the moment when they start to get worried about you
You mate are a goddamn genius, this was sentence I was missing for this masterpiece!
and that's also usually the turning point where you start annihilating them during the second battle where this shows up, in the second half of mission 11
Damn, I never noticed that after 85 hours of gametime
Oh god I remember that first encounter. I'm on su-25, low on ammo, low on health. All I had is flares and my will to escape. I passed the mission. Dude, that game gives emotions that I haven't got from AC.
I still vividly remember the first time I played this mission. I thought to myself “oh yeah I can beat these guys”
Long story short I had to restart the mission over again.
In the first playthrough on hard difficulty, this is the the Theme of the Deadly Crimson squadron
In the 2nd playthrough, on Mercenary with the PW/MK1, this is the theme of the unstoppable Monarch as he decimates Crimson squadron.
My first playthrough was on Normal as i wanted to get used to the game
I can't help but comment again, i think i noticed that there is an intro section for peacekeeper in Cold War. I have to say that it was brilliantly timed with the fight
For those who are wondering, there is a lull when the song transitions to peacekeeper in Cold War, interesting stuff

@@gluever54 Yeah. Crimson 1 is a very salty boi.
This is a fantastic piece, it portrays the battle in a unique yet intimidating way. The song starts off in an invitational and exciting tone, as if Crimson Squadron was just another enemy to down to further earn your paycheck. But as the battle and song continues, the tone suddenly switches to a more desperate state, as if telling you to retreat and live another day. Yet it isn't a complete call for desperation, as it also gives you the encouragement to parry their attacks and survive for as long as you can.
Can confirm this is true
Voluntary over time
I remember the first time i played the game i wanted to see if it was possible to shoot any of them down, and just by continuinally dodging and firing missiles i eventually got one. Most games dont give you that choice to attack an enemy far superior to you like that and win: its awesome
@@Oliepolie granted, they don't pay off nearly as much as they should, but it doesn't matter because of how fun they are to fight.
Or alternatively once you've gotten the hang of the game, this is *your* boss music playing as Crimson squadron realizes in how much trouble they are while they comrades drop like flies!
This is one of those amazing tracks where you cant tell if it's the boss's theme or the theme the boss hears when they're fighting YOU
Probably both, seeing as Monarch probably didn't really know about crimson 1s abilities and vice versa.

I know I'm a little late but this song is so well composed. The first 10 seconds give off a vibe of "We are the bad guys and we are professionals" but right after the song builds up this tension, because Crimson doesn't have the clearly upper hand in this engagement, because you the player, monarch are there. This song is so good at making you feel like you are the target that needs ro be taken care off and not like you are an unstoppable force. This song doesn't feel like it's for an unstoppable boss either, it just has this feeling of two equally strong forces fighting, with ups and downs for Crimson. Outstanding track
To me, this song isn’t about monarch fighting the peacekeepers and learning he’s outmatched, but rather monarch slowly learning crimson’s fighting style, with his missiles getting closer and closer, and crimson getting more and more *afraid.*
That is simply a terrifying thought.
And I love it!
and 2:05 drops where Monarch clicks with Crimson's fighting style to keeping up with them despite being outnumbered and outgunned 8 to 1.
This OST will always hold a special place in my heart for me. I was just finishing up on the ground targets on the first mission where you encounter Crimson Squadron, I didn't know they were coming though. I was so happy when I destroyed the last target at 5% health. Then I just hear that Crimson Squad is coming my way. I was too far away from the blue line so I had to fight these fuckers. My heart was pumping so fucking hard but in the end I managed to get 1 of the figthers down and then they retreated. I felt really goddamn unstoppable there ngl, and that was the moment when I was like "Yep, this game is hands up one of my favs of all time"

Actually, when you think about it, Crimson Squadron is almost the opposite of Sol Squadron. Where Sol Squadron remains loyal to the Republic of Voslage rather than solely to Erusea, Crimson chose the Federation over Cascadia.
And also to quote dababy:
"Less goo"
Actually that fits very well to Crimson Squadron, specific Crimson 1, all the times he do is going to Cascadia to make caos, they're the oposite of Sol Squadron, while Wit and Seymour wanted peace Crimson 1 didn't, while AWWNB wanted peace to all the world with everyone as political measure, Crimson 1 wanted a single guy, the president of the Federation, rules the world, and conquering/destroying Cascadia is a major goal.

What I love about this theme is that this can be your theme as well and not just Crimson Squadron's. The feeling you get from engaging Crimson Squadron; the ebb and flow of the battle as you exchange bullets, missiles, and maneuvers; the music showing how much more dire it is for them as you're slowly witling down their planes. The music roars throughout the sky with your plane and you, the pilot, quietly whispers...
"I am the King"
A part of me wants to believe that engaging and running off Crimson (in mission 6) is the true canon, especially with the extra dialogue that comes along with it.
Regardless, Jose Pavli, you have done a remarkable job with the entire Project Wingman OST and I look forward to your future works. You just earned another sub and I'll be sure to buy your OST whenever I get the chance to.
0:57 *when a no-name mercenary pulls a Kulpit maneuver on your wingman and shoots him down*
It reminds of the first time you strike a Yellow in Comona AC4 and all the radio chatter is like wtf who did that?!? Who is this guy!?
I firmly believe that the "chased them off" ending to this mission is the canon one. Flying more nimbly than expected while retreating doesn't set nearly the same kind of expectations as managing to nearly shoot down an ace while outnumbered 8:1 and you have a less advanced plane. That would make you noteworthy enough to become an HVT
But you do become an HVT. After this mission, several federation members talk about "the one that Peacekeeper keeps talking about". It makes a lot more sense that he keeps yapping about you if you almost took out one of his boys the first time you met.
No honestly, I think there was a bit of a bad audio setup in the game settings. This is the first time I can hear this music correctly (and It's downright awesome by the way) and I've got a good quality headset.

I love that faint hint of the Unsung War/Zero leitmoff at spots like 0:33, 1:14, and its particular reprise at about 2:20 - puts Ace Combat fans right at home fighting an elite squadron and keeps the adrenaline pumping, without just ripping the song entirely but being its own very distinct identity. A reminder that yes, you CAN take Crimson on and they're the enemies that a lot of the genre's fans live to take on, without saying "Yes, we are Ace Combat just fox two that guy" but claiming its own identity.
This theme was 120% hype music when it hit in M6. I wasn't sure if it was a Yellow Squadron in Lifeline situation or not - where they're not just metaphorically but *literally* invincible - but this was way too good of an adrenaline-inducing boss-fight style theme to just turn around without giving it a shot.
It may have taken a couple loops, but it was worth.

I still remember the first time I played this mission. I was still in the trainer F-4 because I was saving for the Tomcat (gotta have my WSO with me). The mission thus far had been pretty easy, cool flying moments with the tunnels…and then you hear Crimson’s radio chatter. “Oh, another one of these special squadrons. No problem.” But then I hear the talk about “Peacekeepers” and my wingmen start bugging out. I get a little nervous and I consider leaving, but it’s too late: I’ve already engaged with EIGHT enemy fighters. [ENGAGEMENT NOT ADVISED] pops up, I hear that organ kick in, and I’m getting outmaneuvered at every turn and missing every shot. I take one, then two hits. I’d never been in a situation this bad in the game before. Now only one thought runs through my head: “RUN.” I’m flying away as fast as I can, desperately popping flares and turning to dodge the onslaught of missiles while still trying to leave. I manage to make some distance, and I catch up to one of Crimson squadron that chased my allies. For some dumb reason, I decide to dive on them and try my hand at taking them on one-on-one. To my surprise, I actually managed to score a hit. With a renewed sense of vigor, I bite and don’t let go even as the rest of Crimson squadron catches up and joins the fight. By some miracle, with only a quarter of my health left, I manage to down the fighter I ambushed and I yell out “OH MY GOD I GOT HIM!!!” in utter disbelief. Truly, one of the best moments I’ve ever experienced in all of my gaming life.
Crimson 1 begrudgingly disengage is because his squadron wasn't in their top shape.
You, on your 1st playthrough, probably thought the same. You disengaged because depleted ammunition and not the big [ENGAGEMENT NOT ADVISED] warning.
During Cold War, Crimson 1 was angry but forced to retreated because his allies couldn't keep up.
You probably feel the same, because after all that bloodbath you still want more enemies to shoot down.
You, as Monarch, got a lot of praise from your allies, and fear from the enemies. Crimson 1 probably enjoyed the same glory before Monarch show up.
Imaging if the game narrative was you being the most praised pilot in the world, but then some antagonist appeared and is shown to be better than you. Your allies started fearing him more and praise you less. Then your mentality would be "I can't wait for a mission where I can finally kill that mf."
What I thought was really intimidating was how during the second battle, Crimson Squadron were picking out the mercenaries and ID'ing them. Really made me feel like there was a target on their backs now.

@@michaelandreipalon359 They're in-game prototypes that took the F-22 and put the surface control configuration of a J-20 to make a plane that could outperform both. That's what it looks like, at least.
Funnily enough, when the Crimson squad first appeared, I didn't notice the "Don't Engage" pop-up.
So I ended up spending the next hour or so trying to fight the Crimson squad alone XD
I managed to land some hits, but didn't kill any of them.
Eventually I just quit.
Replayed the level, realised I should've just not engaged the Crimson bois.
10/10 would try to fight an unwinnable battle again.
You can win of you damge 1 of them to almost dead, just dont fire your missles too much since with their fast speed and aoa it imposible to hit, use the machine gun
@@tango5thetargeted73 cheers, will try that
@@tango5thetargeted73
Tried it and it worked!
Thanks for the advice
@@tango5thetargeted73 spamming all the MLAAs I brought at them worked for me. My entire boss fight experience for this game is "Haha, MLA[X]s go fshhew"
0:00 - those opening plucks of melody, almost playful yet imposing. Likely representing crimson team's attitude in general, they are the top aces in the federation, almost every engagement is like a game to them.
0:04 - 8 consecutive notes, likely representing crimson team. Although their associated instrument is the church organ, I feel like this part is meant as a parallel to hitman team; whose theme is just three fast notes, for their 3 members. And Crimson has 8 members.
0:12 - blaring brass section, representative of the federation. The peacekeepers are their trump cards and symbols of their prowess.
0:24 - this whole section feels like a dark heaven, soaring through the skies over an apocalyptic landscape.
0:42 - Hitman leitmotif, 3 fast-paced notes, and they almost feel desperate in how they get played, probably representing their sense of impending doom that they have to escape from.
0:50 - Crimson one's ostinato, immediately following hitman's theme, nodding to the fact he is hot on their tail now.
0:58 - instruments calm down, and shift into a carnival-like theme, with church organs leading the playful melody. Ever heard of The Flying Circus? This part goes to show who crimson squadron are, the top aces who are here to let you meet the ground.
1:08 - the orchestra picks back up as the fighting starts to get heated, especially now that crimson realizes you either; aren't going down easy at all or are far more slippery than they thought.
1:35 - small bit of mongolian throat singing, representative of cordium in general. Either hinting at the resort crimson would end up choosing, or nodding to the scarred landscape they are fighting over.
1:46 - a mix of trumpets and violins making up a slowed and more bleak toned rendition of a part of the main theme, probably representing their fighting spirit.
2:02 - before crescending into an altered version of the main theme, almost heroic in nature, representing monarch's fight against crimson, turning their game into a desperate attempt to take him down.
2:25 - which then transitions into a more familiar rendition of the main theme's last notes, representing the cause that started this.
2:34 - music goes more neutral, with a slightly altered "sky" leitmotif. Probably representing crimson's decision and shock at their game's end of either being forced to run away or leave their fleeing prey.
2:50 - turning back to the beginning's playful notes.
Did this with the Sk 25u first playthrough, which was on hard. Still won. Heavy gunpods are absolutely devastating.

"Federation Peacekeeping Squadron Crimson"
This name sounds so simple but so intimidating at the same time
[ENGAGEMENT NOT ADVISED]
Monarch, cracking his neck: Challenge accepted. Buckle up Prez!
Man I refused to disengage when this song came on it was a do or die situation for me.
I mentioned to you I love this song, main reason is it sounds more medieval fantasy-ish, which fits really well with this game's theme of Kings
They're peacekeepers, but their theme makes them sound like anything but
The moment i heard this track I knew. I’m not running. I’m fighting.

A chad in a SU-25: oppss... Looks like my Ace Combat instinct went to far.
Monarch: Holds off Crimson squadron(taking out one of their members in the process) in a MiG-29.
Comic: Where'd you learn to fight like that, Monarch?
Monarch: From the Strangereal academy of air combat. I had many teachers; Mobius 1, Yellow 13, Demon lord of the round table, Gryphus 1, and many more.
I dropped a EUFB on one of them and they backed off. Dont screw with monarch (he has nuclear warheads)
I don't know what kind of song would came out if Jose composed a song together with Keiki Kobayashi.. I had goosebumps thinking about it
Im ready to spent the rest of my life learning violin just to play this tune
