"Single Red Wing, I know this pilot." Everyone reacts to Pixy's wing. Nobody ever freaks out about the blue markings of Cipher. Of course, by the time they're close enough to see it, their plane is in flames anyway.
To be fair, that could be because Cipher's plane is whatever you want it to be. While Canonically it is the F-15 with blue wings, you can also fly so many other aircraft from SUs to Migs to even the F-22 even though it wasn't in service yet. (At least in our timeline.)
It could also be the fact that Larry Foulke is Belkan. It is never explicitly stated in-game, but his reputation as "Solo-Wing" likely predates (or at least coincides with) him becoming a mercenary pilot. The Belkan pilots you fight have probably heard of him, maybe even flew with him before the war.

Funfact : Japan is obsessed with Flamenco atleast with the woman population. They are second behind Spain itself in terms of all flamenco production related. It said in wiki there are 650 Flamenco academies in japan and in Tokyo itself there are more academies than the whole Spain. There is no definitive proof and source about this but it is quite plausible because Japan population is 110million while Spain are only 46milliion. Ace Combat - Zero and FF IX-Vamo Alla Flamenco (Edit: whole Espada Arc in Bleach and Hisoka theme) is example of this cross cultural pollination in games from Japan
Spaniard here. I've also heard of Japanese students who go to Spain specifically to study Flamenco, specially in Southern Spain, which is where flamenco was born.
This twisted game needs to be remastered. We'll start from zero and entrust the fandom to the next generation. That's what PS5 is for. Please Cipher...one last time.

What I like about this fight is that they purposefully make you face down pixie. No other angle of attack works. Just the two of you charging each other like jousting knights. It's goofy in the most amazing way
Considering game is full of Arthurian mythology and in the game, fighter pilots can be seen as modern knights, two fighter pilots jousting like knights don't sound so out of place.
It's an allegory of a bullfight. A true one on one of strength and mettle. This shown even in the final phase of the fight where Cipher has to essentially charge right at Pixy to down him. As a bull charging a toreador would.
I thought it was strange that "Galm" didn't mean anything, where the other squadrons' names had distinct meanings, even if only in other languages. But then I noticed that the Galm emblem was a dog biting its own chain. This suddenly reminded me of an old Final Fantasy enemy called "Garm". Knowing how the Japanese tend to interchange "R" and "L", I did a quick search for "Garm"... It's the Norse version of Cerberus.
Crimson: how does it feel to have no borders to define yourself in? *Pixy manifesting into another reality to assist monarch upon hearing someone say the word "borders"* Edit: ok, so I kinda could see cipher teaming up with crimson 1 in order to finish off pixy and monarch teaming with pixy in order to finish off crimson, before cipher and monarch realize who the enemies really are and decide to work together. It could make for a really interesting fight where you switch teams straight in the middle of it.
No... I'll just have to destroy them all... reset everything to zero. That's what V2 is for. You'll have to kill me to stop this launch. _crimson and monarch glance worryingly at each other_

This song just makes Cipher and Pixy like a dance partner. Both of them trying to outmaneuver and give replies to each other with their moves. They've pretty much learnt each others skills, maneuvers, tactics and gimmicks after a long time flying side by side, essentially can mirrors each other's flying style. The final fight is just like who can give the best flares, best dance move.
From what I've understood too, a reason why you can only attack Pixy in the Morgan from head-on is that it emulates the jousting of knights, straight-on at high speed.
This song was perfect for that battle with Pixy....I went back and played that mission not too long ago and I remembered why I fell in love with the AC franchise.
Bandai Namco's last Ace Combat should be like the Halo Master Chief Collection, but have remakes of all the Ace Combats... that's a huge stretch but I would definitely invest in it no matter the price.

So, since ACZ is a prequel, and 'The Unsung war' and 'Zero' have the same lyrics, i just thought of this. Cipher was the true first coming of the Razgriz, he destroyed and annihilated everything, then disappeared. The Razgriz from AC5 'died', but unlike Cipher who wrought only insane amounts of destruction, they brought back peace and lasting stability, and saved the world.
+TheRh764 I completely agree with you... Cipher's influence during the Belkan War and the Razgriz tale played so perfectly. So I thought hey! Cipher could be the original Razgriz since he disappeared right after

***** Woah, woah, woah. Infinity is good to stand amongst the best. Infinity is getting closer to be pretty good. Now back to remastered msg. I wouldn't mind that. I would love that. I loved AC4's physics AND MUSIC ESPECIALLY though. Actually felt the weight of the plane, and the music was beautiful.
The LouseGrouse I rather they remix it than remaster. We already know how the songs sounds like, how about remix it into something badass. Like Invincible Fleet and Comona was on point. Stonehenge too.
Indomitable Fear Not for me though. While there were good some good parts about the remixes I didn't really like them as much as the originals. To each his own, I guess :)
I love how the guy playing the guitar masters different techniques in flamenco such as the rasgueados and picados. He definitely knows his shit. Also, the way the palmas, castanuelas and zapateados (I'm almost sure I can hear some zapateados in there) support and actually accent the guitar riffs is so nicely done. I think I can hear a cajon too, but am not sure, could it be the guitarrist playing golpes very subtle on his spanish, or better, sapinish guitar? Who said that flamenco couldn't go well with a battle between two fighter jets? The japanese definitely go hard on art when making games for some reason. That's a cultural thing I guess. No wonder those videogame soundtracks sound so addicting and delightful for the ears and senses. P.S: btw for people wondering which flamenco style it is, I remember asking a spanish friend and he said at the time Zero is basically what you'd call "freestyle" (I put the quotes here because there's no such a thing as an actual freestyle flamenco) flamenco with roots set on Rumba flamenca. The song as a whole as mutant of different styles along with rumba, interesting eh? Funny fact: there are several flamenco schools in Japan. Coincidence? I don't think so, as it is reflected in the quality of this soundtrack.
Well, the final battle is very much like a flamenco. A dance between two Aces. Cipher and Pixy, high above the destroyed Avalon Dam Missile Launch Facility.
@Sufuurin well at least I am sure that the spanish wouldn't think of coming with something like this in a game. Idk how the game industry is going in there though.
@@lukasi.v4269 Spaniard here. Yeah, that's true, but not for the reasons you may be thinking. First, video games are global, and we have a bit of an inferiority complex when it comes to our culture that can be traced back to (at least) 1898. The way this would manifest in a video game is that we believe international audiences would not be interested in it, or that they'll think we're playing to stereotypes. Fortunately, this seems to be improving. The most internationally popular Spanish games of recent years are "Rhyme", "Blasphemous" and "Gris". The first two use quite a lot of artifacts of Spanish culture, albeit the more subtle, less known of them (or in the case of "Blasphemous", the darkest). So who knows. Maybe in time we'll have flamenco music in the middle of an epic battle like this. On a different note, this theme freaking slaps! The "Ace Combat" series unfortunately is not very popular in Spain, but I haven't met a single Spaniard gamer who knows about this theme and doesn't love it!

"It's time. Too bad buddy. This twisted game needs to be reset. We'll start over from zero with this V2 and entrust the future to the next generation."
Now it was between us, the fate of that pointless war rested in our hands. The plane he flew was both amazing and frightening, I could barely keep up with him, and the fact that he was flying it made the situation all the more desperate. Despite our opposition towards each other, we danced about in the air not out of pure hatred, but instead out of utmost respect. Our battle felt as though it lasted for hours, each hit I made to his plane just barely making it. After a while, I received a message from my AWACS and watched as the V2 missile launched. "Too bad, buddy. This twisted game needs to be reset. We'll start over from zero with this V2, and entrust the future to the next generation." I'll never forget those words. It was at that point I saw just how disillusioned he was. What happened to him? Did he really think terror was going to solve our problems? Regardless, I had to shoot him down. I received another transmission telling me that the only weak point on his plane was the front air intake. Now it became a joust. I remember it very vividly, we passed by each other five times. The first pass we both somehow missed. I like to think maybe it was because, for a brief moment, deep down we did not want to fight. As we turned around, however, we realized that it had to end like this. The second pass I was able to land a direct hit on him, in one instant our eyes locked as our planes passed. The third pass I made another hit, but not without receiving one as well. It was a miracle that my plane kept flying. At the fourth pass I did not hold back, this time I landed two missiles on his plane. My heart was beating rapidly at that point. I could tell the fifth pass would be the final one, there was smoke coming from his plane, it could not take any more. While barely avoiding another missile, I delivered the final blow to him. Our planes passed by one final time, only feet apart. I watched as his plane went down and exploded in mid air. Some part of me had hoped he survived, but I was already too far away and the weather was too heavy to tell whether or not he had ejected. I like to think that, just maybe, he is alive somewhere. After that battle I did not really care for whatever sum of cash I was going to get payed once I landed, I was just sad. I felt that way because to me Larry was like a brother, and I knew he thought of me the same way, even when we were fighting. I still think of him every now and then. If we were to ever meet again, I would let him know that I forgive him. I just want to be buddies again. -What I imagine knight Galm 1 might say if he was interviewed
Mercenary: Before I knew it, I was thrown in the center of the spotlight as usual. Except this time, the stakes were… well, colossal seems to be the only fitting word. A one v. one. I know he’s seen me win duels like this countless times, and vice versa. But facing each other… I’ll admit, even I wasn’t fully prepared for that. Then my world was thrown completely out of the window when the V2 launched. I remember that immortal line to this very day. ‘Too bad buddy. This twisted game needs to be reset. We’ll start over from Zero with this V2, entrust the future to the next generation.’ At that point, my first impression was that he completely lost it. I didn’t think for a moment about why or how he became the way he was, although I did feel bad for him regardless. Truly, I did. But all I knew in that moment was that if I lost, my paycheck won’t be the only thing I’ll be losing. The world might be next. So I fought. Not out of money, not out of spite, not out of revenge, but out of pure, unadulterated instinct. Like a wild animal trapped in a corner, I lashed out. I heard something in my radio from AWACS at that moment that the front air intake was his weak spot. Now the blinds were raised even higher. But, as I usually do, I went all in… By the first pass, I missed and so did he. I thought of it as luck for both of us, and nothing more. By the second pass, I scored one hit on him, with him zooming past my cockpit in mere milliseconds. I think, for a split second there, our gazes met one anothers… anyway, by the third pass I scored one more hit, but also suffered a missile in my right aileron, barely dodging the potential death blow. Not gonna lie, the Adrenaline was making me shaky during that fight - with so much at stake. The fourth pass proved to be fortuitous, however, as I scored two more hits in his air intakes. His craft was trailing charcoal colored smoke soon after. I knew that with this next pass, if either of us is hit, it’s over. I went all in, releasing the last of my ordnance. And, by lady luck’s grace, I got him - dodging his missile, then his craft while doing so. I didn’t see him bail out when I zoomed past him, his plane explodes soon after. I don’t know if he survived the explosion to this day. Truth be told, I kinda miss him… if that fool wouldn’t have fucked his allegiance and his head up early on, both of us might still be here. Might’ve been good drinking buddies, with all that cash. The paycheck certainly helps keeping my mind off of things. But I still miss him, and not even money can fix that.
Hey hey hey, here's the lyrcs,it's actually a variation of the poem of Razgriz: "Cum histo - ria. Mutat val - de Razgriz~ revelat. ipsum. Primun daemon sclestus est!~ Cum histo - ria. Now,not much people knows what is the woman singing at the beginning, some people says that it's just a normal chorus, but it isn't,she's singing another variation of the poem, after lisenting a few times and comparing it with the poem, this is what i got. "Mutat valde~ Primum daemon~ Cum somnus finit~ Deinde~ Moritur~ Surget~ Iterum, somnus finit!~"
Actually, on the second verse, it's not 'surget iterum' it's 'sua daemon fundet mortem', and on the third verse, the first 'magnus heros est' is actually 'cum somnus finit'. The rest is spot on. Also, as a little bit of trivia, these lyrics are taken from the lyrics for 'The Unsung War', which read as follows: Cum historia mutat valde, Razgriz revelat ipsum: Primum daemon scelestus est. Cum potentia sua, daemon fundet mortem in terram: Deinde moritur. Cum somnus finit, Razgriz surget iterum: Magnus heros est. Which are latin for: "When history witnesses a great change, Razgriz reveals itself. First, as an evil demon. With its power, the demon rains death upon the land, then dies. When its slumber ends, Razgriz rises again, as a great hero."

All those hamfisted Arthurian references paid off when making the final battle a jousting match. It all came down to raw reaction time to see who really was the best
This piece is truly an unsung masterpiece. I played this and the credits once on my university's food court sound system when I worked there. I remember watching people tap their feet, bobbing their heads, and making guitar motions as this song played on the overhead speakers. It was a great and surreal scene to watch.

it's because in Japanese, demon is translated into Yôkai (yo-u-ka-i), but the term itself means "supernatural being". In Japanese culture a demon is not necessary evil because it include also gods or fortune spirits.
As he said, "You and I are like two sides of a coin. We seem similar, but we never face the same direction." They both seeked peace, but in different ways
This brings back so many memories of that final fight with the joust. The Arthurian themes were just stellar to me because I enjoy Arthurian stories. Dodging Excalibur, Flying through Avalon and becoming the Demon Lord of the Round Table. The interviews with those Cipher brought down was great, gave you insight into how they perceived him. A sort of primal force, an entity that knew no rest, no remorse, the moment they thought they were in the clear they'd only hear the sound of missile alerts again (Gelb-2 specifically). They revered him, feared him. In a way it reminds me of the Doomslayer from the DOOM games. An unspeaking protagonist that defies the odds, hits so far up his weight class that he's basically a god and how everyone they encounter has some form of praise for him.

Considering game is full of Arthurian mythology and in the game, fighter pilots can be seen as modern knights, two fighter pilots jousting like knights don't sound so out of place.
@@valder8423 I'm aware. That's goofy

We'll start over from zero with this V2, and entrust the future to the next generation."
I'll never forget those words.
Now I need the mindset of the other versions now...
I know this is necroosting, but can you do the mercenary and soldier versions of this?
Mercenary: Before I knew it, I was thrown in the center of the spotlight as usual. Except this time, the stakes were… well, colossal seems to be the only fitting word. A one v. one. I know he’s seen me win duels like this countless times, and vice versa. But facing each other… I’ll admit, even I wasn’t fully prepared for that.
Then my world was thrown completely out of the window when the V2 launched. I remember that immortal line to this very day.
‘Too bad buddy. This twisted game needs to be reset. We’ll start over from Zero with this V2, entrust the future to the next generation.’
At that point, my first impression was that he completely lost it.
But, as I usually do, I went all in…
By the first pass, I missed and so did he.

Hero~ est!"
Now,not much people knows what is the woman singing at the beginning, some people says that it's just a normal chorus, but it isn't,she's singing another variation of the poem, after lisenting a few times and comparing it with the poem, this is what i got.
"Mutat valde~
Primum daemon~
Cum somnus finit~
Deinde~
Moritur~ Surget~
Iterum,somnus finit!~"
If someone wants to correct me on the woman's lyrcs go ahead, after all i'm interested to know the correct lyrcs of that part too :P
+Juan Jose Hernandez Vargas It's kinda hard to hear what they're actually singing.
Yeah, but lisenting to the poem it's a lot much easier xD
Actually, on the second verse, it's not 'surget iterum' it's 'sua daemon fundet mortem', and on the third verse, the first 'magnus heros est' is actually 'cum somnus finit'. The rest is spot on.
Also, as a little bit of trivia, these lyrics are taken from the lyrics for 'The Unsung War', which read as follows:
Cum historia mutat valde,
Razgriz revelat ipsum:
Primum daemon scelestus est.
Cum potentia sua,
daemon fundet mortem in terram:
Deinde moritur.
Cum somnus finit,
Razgriz surget iterum:
Magnus heros est.
Which are latin for:
"When history witnesses a great change, Razgriz reveals itself. First, as an evil demon. With its power, the demon rains death upon the land, then dies. When its slumber ends, Razgriz rises again, as a great hero."
White Heart the theme for zero took referance from the unsung war because cipher was the original demon lord that is in the belkan war
You and I are opposite sides of the same coin. When we face each other, we can finally see our true selves. There may be resemblance, but we never face the same direction
Without beginning or end, the ring stretches into the infinite...
hen history witnesses a great change, Razgriz reveals itself... first, as a dark demon. As a demon, it uses its power to rain death upon the land, and then it dies. However, after a period of slumber, Razgriz returns, this time, as a great hero.

And him...?
He was true ace
3 years late but I don’t think people really understood what that line meant. He is referencing the Ace Styles. Pride is Knight, Strength is Mercenary, and Tide of battle is Soldier. The reason why you’re a true ace is because you have the ability to swap between a 3 at will.

This. This right here. We have ballooned budgets and dev cycles, but we don't get things 10% as good as we did during this time. God i miss these days.
@@eagleactual321 Nowadays, everything is the same tired thing. Even the indie games scene is dominated by games that copycat the same cutesy "SNES" or gritty "PS1" graphic styles. Ritual controversies and letdowns (Fallout 76, No Man's Sky, Blizzard, Cyberpunk). Just drama and tired samey-feeling games.
I too miss the days when hits like this existed on the regular. An awesome arcade flight sim that's anime-cheesy as heck; driven by the Arthurian mythos; and scored with a marriage of symphony, rock, Latin choir and freaking Spanish guitar. Just such an unapologetic batshit cacophony of elements that melded somehow so well, and I loved it.

This piece is truly an unsung masterpiece. I played this and the credits once on my university's food court sound system when I worked there. I remember watching people tap their feet, bobbing their heads, and making guitar motions as this song played on the overhead speakers. It was a great and surreal scene to watch.

I still can't get over the fact that in a Japanese game the protagonist is actually nicknamed the Demon Lord.
it's because in Japanese, demon is translated into Yôkai (yo-u-ka-i), but the term itself means "supernatural being". In Japanese culture a demon is not necessary evil because it include also gods or fortune spirits.
pierreyann1 Pretty sure it's actually supposed to be demon in the western sense considering Ciphers Emblem and Squadron numbers.

1440p?! Holy shit, that is some high definition sound right there!

Ace Combat truly is the ultimate recherché franchise. No one looks at the splash art of an AC entry and thinks anything beyond "military plane game".
