Another mistake I made was just placing my villagers houses wherever while designing my island and then I had to move them all again multiple times to where I really wanted them. Putting them on the beach until you know exactly where you want to put them will save you so much time and bells!
I found with Group Stretching you don't have to repeat all the button presses. I was curious one day and did the minimal button presses to see if the actions were the same. Ex. you don't need to press B B B B A A when doing the jumping jacks...just B once!
Enjoy the buttons or joy-con stretching bit. Buttons is a less fuss imo and i wanted the weights especially Random flowers are why the lawnmower item should work as a tool

I have the beautiful island ordinance for the reduced weeds + no trash from fishing features, and I just make sure to put down paths (not the sand or dirt ones) around my flowers, that way they can’t grow out of control 😄 also, if you do have a ton of flowers you want to get rid off, one trick to speed things up is to move the museum or shop on top of them! It’ll remove a bunch of them at once lol
Luckily I don’t have a problem with flowers anymore. I let the flowers get to a point where I was happy with what I had, and surrounded them with invisible custom design paths. Works like a charm! I haven’t had a single flower grow in months!
For those who like to give villagers gifts, but don't want those gifts to mess up the houses: know that you can give your villagers food that you've cooked, but it doesn't work like fruit, crops, or fossils - it works like furniture meaning they can display it in their house. If you have HHP and have gotten to the point where you can redecorate villagers' homes, or if you just generally aren't concerned with their house interiors, then this probably isn't a big deal but I know some people do care so just thought I'd comment that.

If you timetravel backwards it un-syncs the nook miles tracker and Brewster’s counter when it comes to how many days u have visited the roost. What I mean by this is that if you time travel a day forward because you need items, and you visit the roost but then travel back, it will count that visit in the nook miles goal but Brewster himself won’t, meaning that you will obtain the 50 visits nook miles goal on a different day to when you receive the Brewster gyroid (Brewsteroid) from Brewster. I don't know if this is common knowledge but if you have the DLC and have unlocked the restaurant, make sure to go to the kitchen every day and talk to one of the chefs. (Always the same one every day) They will give you a cooking recipe every day...Now sometimes it will be a recipe you already have, but it's still good to check daily!

To keep flowers from spreading, I surround them with custom designs on the ground. I even have a "blank" custom design so that it looks like the ground isn't covered at all, but flowers can't grow out of control.
Life hack: if you have dirt paths lined with flowers and don't want them to spread onto it, you can use invisible custom designs to cover them and you can't plant, dig, etc on it

So until I found a person on our in town friend group who had oranges/cherries, I was going to be missing out on them

One mistake that I've recently made that I've done before is with the designs. I'm still kicking myself and cleaning up after myself. I used a bunch of designs on the ground and deleted them or replaced them. Now most of my island is covered in solid white blocks or pictures of Fauna lol. She just moved in and I'm glad she's not aware. It would make me move out in a heartbeat. Be careful with deleting/changing custom designs!
Flower Tip: You can keep a bed of flowers from spreading further with a barrier of custom designs or any other path designs that flowers can't grow on. Just one row will do; they can't "jump" over it to try spreading past it. At least, that's been my experience.

Good to know about the recycle bin. I've always used it to store 10 cardboard boxes. Gonna clean it out today. I cannot get my hybrids to duplicate so maybe I need to try the Beautiful Island feature lol

Unless they changed it in one of the updates, once you reach 20 slots full, it will allow you to scroll down at least one more time. I haven't needed to do it in a long while but I've always gotten at least one extra row, but I also check it from time to time to clear it out.
I place down a transparent pattern on the ground around my flowers so they won’t spread. My island is pretty simply “decorated” and has a natural feel so this helps a lot.
Custom Design Portal, type in Clear/Transparent then pick out a clear/transparent design put them down so u can get less flowers, weeds, fossils, etc. that works for if you have a more natural island and don't want a lot of designs. You can still see the "grass" or w/e you have down that still allows weeds, flowers & fossils to come up
I made the error of not working enough in happy home paradise but I was trying to work on other goals during that time. I use beautiful ordinance and I love it.
I used to use the cleanup feature all the time to put DIYs I already know into the recycling bin so I can keep track of them for Nookazon. I hate them just laying around my island but it fills up quick especially if you play daily and hoard diys like me 😭 Now we can put diys in our storage and I get to get items in the recycling bin again and it’s so nice ☺️
There is a very easy fix to stop flowers from multiplying. In your custom design on your phone when you look at all of the color options there is one that is white but you can see faint little gray lines through it. That is a transparent color. If you place that wherever the flowers are multiplying they cannot do so.
tip for anyone who has flowers growing out of control! use a clear custom design and put it on the ground completely surrounding the areas you want your flowers to be. they won’t grow beyond those areas now! make sure they are completely surrounded tho
My flower and weed control is keeping a custom design slot for a clear square, though I add a speck of colour that contrasts with the grass so I can tell where they are and aren’t. It makes it easier for me to control where fossils and rocks spawn as well.
Also for the recycling box their will be more items in the box when you upgrade your resident services tent to a building. This might not be it for everyone but for me I’ve seen more items in there when I upgraded. Hope this helps! 😁
I use Night Owl Ordinance which makes it a convenience to do shopping at Nook’s Cranny or Able Sisters with that extra hour past when they each normally close, and gives island visitors adequate time to be able to shop and buy items they might want or need that they don’t have cataloged yet. And speaking of common mistakes, many new players will just take the food seriously and not know the consequences that it will slow down their ability to progress in the game or craft items they need to have crafted, plus how some items like the Japanese-style meal (which you can buy from Nook’s Cranny or at the café in HHP) are rendered inedible as a sign of how eating is discouraged and does none other than provide energy points to do certain things like digging up and relocating full-sized trees and crushing rocks if the latter are in locations not considered desirable. When meals to prep are sometimes listed as “hot items” to sell, it’s a sign that just because they’re edible doesn’t mean they should be eaten as what they can craft or prep are for making some profit to sell at Nook’s Cranny; just as much as selling full stacks of exotic fruits that each player can make for 500 bells a piece (5000 bells per full stack of 10) while his/her native fruit that costs 400 bells a piece to buy from Nook’s Cranny and will only make a measly 100 bells a piece (1000 bells per full stack of 10) when selling.
one Misstake is let Bell Boom on. Yes you get more Bells but Everything Cost More Bells! Better is to Store some Stuff (Crafting-/ Cooking Meterial, Turnips) switch to Bell boom And sell them Even the Turnips can Ride Hight by this but dont forgett to switch back or you will Lose your stack off Bells Really fast! A little Tipp: Cooking makes more Money! the price for 2 individual seaweeds is three times less than selling the soup from them. A Fruit from your Island gives 100 Bells one foreign fruit gives 500 BUT make juice out of your Home Fruit make 300 so 3 Times more Again (Dont make the Misstake and Craft foreight Fruits to Juice you will get 300 too so you lost 200 Bells!). When you have The Coconut Juice Crafting (Yes it's a Crafting not a Cooking / Consumeble item i don't know why) you get 500 Bells from it. it used a Single Coconut who is selling for 250.
My sister made the mistake of popping a present balloon after agreeing to deliver a gift to a villager. We found out that if you're delivering a gift to another villager and pop a balloon during this, the game won't allow you to give them the gift meant for them and you have to say that you opened it.
I would probably love group stretching if I didn’t have a switch lite. Since I personally won’t be doing anything but pressing buttons it just feels useless 😅
man nintendo is really damned if they do, damned if they don't... so many people were like "HOORAY RUNNING THROUGH FLOWERS DOESN'T OBLITERATE THEM ANYMORE, MY HYBRIDS ARE SAFE FROM TROLLS" and now everyone's whining that they have to physically dig up excess flowers instead of just trampling them to death. nintendo just can't win.
No one is whining here, everyone just has different opinions about the game. This is a good thing, if we all shared the same opinions, that would be really boring. Nintendo is a HUGE company - they’re open to critique on their multi-million franchises.
i didn't know about the new items and this was before the new items anyway, but i used the aspect of whatever a second player picks up goes into the box to clean up my flowers that took over my island lol
Re flowers growing everywhere.: You can create a blank pattern (clear pixels) then slap that pattern as a path on squares where you don't want flowers to grow. Nothing else will happen on that space either (fossils, gold dig spots, treasure, etc). I use the blank path around my flower beds only; flowers will spawn next to any current flower, so if you surround your flowers with a blank pattern you don't have to do it anywhere else and should have plenty of room for fossils, etc. Twigs, coins, furniture, and wasps nests from trees, and items from rocks will land on blank path spaces just fine. You can remove blank path by kicking it over with the Y button (just like kicking dirt into a hole). This saved me tons of time digging up flowers that had spawned where I did not want them.

As for food items and cooking, I haven't gotten to the point of needing to transplant plants or smash rocks, so for me personally I've only seen those features for decorating places and as gifts for villagers. But my grandma has been trying to get all rocks in the same place and her theory is that it's better to buy a lot of coffee rather than eating fruits/veggies or buying at Nook's, and yeah, it sounds reasonable, coffee is cheap and you can control how much of your counter (I forgot what's it called) want to fill, so I go for coffee as well when I need it. (Sorry for bad english btw 😅)
I think the biggest mistake anyone can do in this game is listen to someone say "I did this, and then that happened!" and think that was anything other than chance. Like Isabelle's lucky day, or that jumping fish rumour that went around awhile ago. Or flirting with the dodo bird getting you rarer islands etc.
i have the beautiful ordinance on for the possibility of my villagers watering my flower breeding garden, which happened once where merengue watered all of them, and i got like 2 hybrids.
My worst mistake on my first island I played newleaf so I thought y picked up the flowers I flew back and noticed I couldn’t plant them And kept finding little remains of my mistake around the island😅
I use paths and fences to keep flowers contained. For some reason objects and bushes don't work, they spawn diagonally if you place objects or bushes to "box them off".
My mistake, for a character i planned on keeping in a tent, i cleared a wand outfit to storage, thinking i would have access to his storage. Tent-only villagers don't, and i haven't upgraded his house, so i don't know if upgrading him to a house will bring his clothes back...
I always do a group stretch when I need to step away from my switch for a few minutes so I don’t have to sit through it. Did same when collecting the KK music
I commit an Animal Crossing sin a few weeks ago and literally got rid of every single flower on my island including the blue roses because after 2 years of constant playing, I just couldn’t take another broken shovel. Enough is enough, they are WEEDS.
I wouldn't say it's simple but I found a trick to cover the ground with an invisible pattern and boom! No random flowers and no scattered fossils, they can only pop up in the one area I left without what I call the InvisoShield. It is annoying to have to redo segments when I accidentally kick an area vs pick up something but overall was worth the effort.
When I got my first three nook miles tickets and I only suggested two villagers instead of three and now no more villagers are showing up please help what do I do
Well, for the flowers, actually, what i do is putting them where i want, and then paint on the floor around them, a transparent design. This will prevent them from spreading like sh*t nuts. LMAO
I am NOT putting the Beautiful Ordinance on my island, I learned that the hard way twice, once in New Leaf (My town's covered and we've lost two villagers to the flower menace) and I've already survived one violent flower coup on my island (I was an idiot and time traveled between two rainy days in May 2020 because Redd was in town and i needed to fill my art collection) I'm not dealing with another.
0:45 "you dont need to cook, you can ALMOST always find food to buy.." ...wooot?? Theres litterally an insane amount of fruit trees available from the get-to on your island (as far as you dont get rid of them for some stupid reason) and if you happen to plant some vegetables and get some fish recipes, youll never lack food ! Why would you waste your bells relying on food from the store IF they ever happen to have some ?!.. Also.. 1:25 "if you dont have alot of time to cook.." ?! DUDE! You can litterally make a full inventory of fruits into jellies faster than buying the same food at the store over and over and over again ! AND ITS COMPLETELY FREE !

Hey, that's two out of three that matches me! Started with peaches, received apples, but my sister fruit is oranges.
You can also get them from Mystery Island Tours. I got all the fruit pretty quick after getting the game thanks to that.

I had the Beautiful Island ordinance for a while. 20 cosmos turned into over 200 before I knew it. Oof.
tip for anyone who has flowers growing out of control! use a clear custom design and put it on the ground completely surrounding the areas you want your flowers to be. they won’t grow beyond those areas now! make sure they are completely surrounded tho
My flower and weed control is keeping a custom design slot for a clear square, though I add a speck of colour that contrasts with the grass so I can tell where they are and aren’t. It makes it easier for me to control where fossils and rocks spawn as well.
Also for the recycling box their will be more items in the box when you upgrade your resident services tent to a building. This might not be it for everyone but for me I’ve seen more items in there when I upgraded.

I use Night Owl Ordinance which makes it a convenience to do shopping at Nook’s Cranny or Able Sisters with that extra hour past when they each normally close, and gives island visitors adequate time to be able to shop and buy items they might want or need that they don’t have cataloged yet.
And speaking of common mistakes, many new players will just take the food seriously and not know the consequences that it will slow down their ability to progress in the game or craft items they need to have crafted, plus how some items like the Japanese-style meal (which you can buy from Nook’s Cranny or at the café in HHP) are rendered inedible as a sign of how eating is discouraged and does none other than provide energy points to do certain things like digging up and relocating full-sized trees and crushing rocks if the latter are in locations not considered desirable. When meals to prep are sometimes listed as “hot items” to sell, it’s a sign that just because they’re edible doesn’t mean they should be eaten as what they can craft or prep are for making some profit to sell at Nook’s Cranny; just as much as selling full stacks of exotic fruits that each player can make for 500 bells a piece (5000 bells per full stack of 10) while his/her native fruit that costs 400 bells a piece to buy from Nook’s Cranny and will only make a measly 100 bells a piece (1000 bells per full stack of 10) when selling.
My best way for energy is the Takeout Coffee from Brewster. 300 bells for 3 stamina. Best way to go!
one Misstake is let Bell Boom on. Yes you get more Bells but Everything Cost More Bells! Better is to Store some Stuff (Crafting-/ Cooking Meterial, Turnips) switch to Bell boom And sell them Even the Turnips can Ride Hight by this but dont forgett to switch back or you will Lose your stack off Bells Really fast!
A little Tipp: Cooking makes more Money! the price for 2 individual seaweeds is three times less than selling the soup from them. A Fruit from your Island gives 100 Bells one foreign fruit gives 500 BUT make juice out of your Home Fruit make 300 so 3 Times more Again (Dont make the Misstake and Craft foreight Fruits to Juice you will get 300 too so you lost 200 Bells!). When you have The Coconut Juice Crafting (Yes it's a Crafting not a Cooking / Consumeble item i don't know why) you get 500 Bells from it. it used a Single Coconut who is selling for 250.
I love the beautiful ordinance as my island has customize designs all over there is no place for flowers or weeds or gyroids to pop up.
All I ever get in my recycling box is moldy clothing, holey socks, and junk.

My sister made the mistake of popping a present balloon after agreeing to deliver a gift to a villager. We found out that if you're delivering a gift to another villager and pop a balloon during this, the game won't allow you to give them the gift meant for them and you have to say that you opened it.
really? the older games distinguished gifts meant for other villagers (green ribbon) from the presents (red ribbon), does New Horizons not do that?

No one is whining here, everyone just has different opinions about the game. This is a good thing, if we all shared the same opinions, that would be really boring. Nintendo is a HUGE company - they’re open to critique on their multi-million franchises.

i didn't know about the new items and this was before the new items anyway, but i used the aspect of whatever a second player picks up goes into the box to clean up my flowers that took over my island lol

Re flowers growing everywhere.: You can create a blank pattern (clear pixels) then slap that pattern as a path on squares where you don't want flowers to grow. Nothing else will happen on that space either (fossils, gold dig spots, treasure, etc). I use the blank path around my flower beds only; flowers will spawn next to any current flower, so if you surround your flowers with a blank pattern you don't have to do it anywhere else and should have plenty of room for fossils, etc. Twigs, coins, furniture, and wasps nests from trees, and items from rocks will land on blank path spaces just fine. You can remove blank path by kicking it over with the Y button (just like kicking dirt into a hole). This saved me tons of time digging up flowers that had spawned where I did not want them.

As for food items and cooking, I haven't gotten to the point of needing to transplant plants or smash rocks, so for me personally I've only seen those features for decorating places and as gifts for villagers.
But my grandma has been trying to get all rocks in the same place and her theory is that it's better to buy a lot of coffee rather than eating fruits/veggies or buying at Nook's, and yeah, it sounds reasonable, coffee is cheap and you can control how much of your counter (I forgot what's it called) want to fill, so I go for coffee as well when I need it.

I think the biggest mistake anyone can do in this game is listen to someone say "I did this, and then that happened!" and think that was anything other than chance. Like Isabelle's lucky day, or that jumping fish rumour that went around awhile ago. Or flirting with the dodo bird getting you rarer islands etc.
i have the beautiful ordinance on for the possibility of my villagers watering my flower breeding garden, which happened once where merengue watered all of them, and i got like 2 hybrids.

My worst mistake on my first island I played newleaf so I thought y picked up the flowers I flew back and noticed I couldn’t plant them

I eat turnips Instead of cooking or purchasing from Nooks. Since they only sell in ten, you can only eat ten at once. So instant 10 points 💖
I use paths and fences to keep flowers contained. For some reason objects and bushes don't work, they spawn diagonally if you place objects or bushes to "box them off".
My mistake, for a character i planned on keeping in a tent, i cleared a wand outfit to storage, thinking i would have access to his storage. Tent-only villagers don't, and i haven't upgraded his house, so i don't know if upgrading him to a house will bring his clothes back...
Buy the swim suit from Nooks right away so you can swim and dive.
I always do a group stretch when I need to step away from my switch for a few minutes so I don’t have to sit through it. Did same when collecting the KK music
I commit an Animal Crossing sin a few weeks ago and literally got rid of every single flower on my island including the blue roses because after 2 years of constant playing, I just couldn’t take another broken shovel. Enough is enough, they are WEEDS.
I hated the old flowers. It was stressful and I had to turn off my game without saving whenever I accidentally ran through them
I wouldn't say it's simple but I found a trick to cover the ground with an invisible pattern and boom! No random flowers and no scattered fossils, they can only pop up in the one area I left without what I call the InvisoShield. It is annoying to have to redo segments when I accidentally kick an area vs pick up something but overall was worth the effort.
Same for weeds too.

Well, for the flowers, actually, what i do is putting them where i want, and then paint on the floor around them, a transparent design. This will prevent them from spreading like sh*t nuts. LMAO
I am NOT putting the Beautiful Ordinance on my island, I learned that the hard way twice, once in New Leaf (My town's covered and we've lost two villagers to the flower menace) and I've already survived one violent flower coup on my island (I was an idiot and time traveled between two rainy days in May 2020 because Redd was in town and i needed to fill my art collection) I'm not dealing with another.

Theres litterally an insane amount of fruit trees available from the get-to on your island (as far as you dont get rid of them for some stupid reason) and if you happen to plant some vegetables and get some fish recipes, youll never lack food !

A whole chunk of my island is overrun by flowers, not because of an ordinance, it was hidden from view, and I didn't notice that it got out of hand.
An easy way to stop flowers from spreading is to make little gardens surrounded by stone or brick pathways. They won't spread over them.
