I remember the original version,from back in 1975-written especially for the theme to BBC1s Seaside Special,the song reached no 4 in the U.K. charts(it’s a wonder it didn’t go to no 1) !!
The track has been consigned as a one hit wonder,as it was the only song released under Mike Batt’s own name-although He was behind the Wombles who had,several chart Hits,Mike Batt also wrote Bright Eyes,a no 1 hit for Art Garfunkel,a few years later,together with numerous other hits,for other Artists in the 70s and 80s !
As for Summertime City-fantastic to see it remixed and re-released,who knows perhaps this new version might go all the way to no 1 ??
