Just want to clarify here as well that I obviously hope people that live in countries with weaker economies are able to continue to pay the adjusted price of services and such, but in the case of UA-cam memberships, maybe if the gifted/dono color was adjusted to what the monetary value was to the streamer’s local currency, it’d be easier at a glance to understand for everyone. @@dertythegrowerThey do crackdowns every 3-4 years and cancel subscriptions. They're currently in the middle of one. As an argentinian myself, what sucks about these people using VPNs to pay less, is that companies do notice that, and eventually end up taking countermeasures to combat this by actually either: Raising the local prices to amounts that would be more beneficial should these users do it, or B, roll back on the regional pricing altogether. Most notably this happened with steam, when Argentine regional pricing was first introduced, games suddenly became quite affordable due to the admitedly pretty generous conversion rate Valve established by default...AND OF COURSE this quickly made the VPN users exploit the hell out of it. This first made large companies such as Ubisoft or Activision release their games at large customized prices, with a lot of other companies soon following them. And last year Valve decided to just pull the plug on the whole operation and removed regional pricing here as a whole, instead establishing a list of "suggested USD prices as a conversion" that only a few companies actually use, and even when they do it's still several times more expensive than before with the actual argentine currency. Admitedly this is not ENTIRELY the VPN users' fault, when the ARS introduction happened, this was during the early days of our economy ballooning worse than one of Pyro's commissions, so a lot of games that were either very expensive or reasonably priced became "dirt cheap" over time unless the prices got manually updated, which a lot of smaller studios never really did. (using quotation marks for dirt cheap since we were all also becoming poorer and poorer in the country alongside the prices of the games). But ultimately there's no denial it became a significant part of the reason as to why they had to use these countermeasures in the first place.
Steam requires a postal address in said country, and you can't gift games to more expensive regions. They went back on argentine's regional pricing for their selfish reasons, not because of VPNs.

The Turkish gifted sub thing has been an issue on Twitch ever since they started local pricing. Breaks small streamers' hearts when they think they can pay rent, but their 100 subs make them like $2
Maybe I’m missing something, but if they were to “fix” the exploit, would it just require them to make the amount of currency equal to 5 dollars USD? Like, if you’re in a country with inflation, it’s just still going to add to the equivalent of $5 USD, whatever the amount translates to in said country.
@@castielffboi That would be one way to fix it, the other would be to update the prices to something more reasonable for people living in those countries. In my case, the memberships are too cheap, they cost 50$ ARS and that is not even equivalent to a dollar so it is understandable if youtube updates the prices but I think that moving them to an exact currency of 5 Dollars (5000$ Ars) would be quite expensive for the average salary in Argentina even without counting the taxes at the time of payment, because they make the price twice as expensive.
@@sestak62 technically they could keep price the same but disable gifting for countries where they have lower prices in place. They couLd even do a UNO reverse on the scam front by only letting viewers in high-price regions gift but let the gifted memberships be received by viewers in lower priced areas.
@castielffboi except that in some of those countries, the equivalent of 5 usd is a lot of money, like a days wages or whatever. The system works perfectly as it is now, the price is based on the cost of living or purchasing power in each country. The only thing that could be seen as a problem is people using vpns to pretend to be from a poor country when they're not.
Any platform that uses the "regional" prices has this problem. Twitch is no diffrent with thier sub prices, this is why subathons in relaity of things are dead cause people can abuse them in the same way.
19:29 youtubers actually can get a small percentage of what youtube premium users pay if they watch your videos. great for when your videos are demonetized and don’t have ads, you still make a small bit of money from premium subscribers
I exist on 30% of the poverty level in America, have medical costs that consume HALF my $1k/month total income. I only pay for one online service: UA-cam Premium. I've been a stagnant UA-camR for 12yrs, and exist on disability. I have been paying for PREMIUM since it started as RED. Being terminally ill is interesting, especially if you've been clinically de*d twice in 10yrs, and the one thing I hate more than paying for YT is the constant ADs being shoved at me, sucking up all the TIME I don't have, and causing me to DESPISE & NEVER BUY any of the products/services shoved down my throat!
I was subbed to Google Play Music and didn't even KNOW I had YT Premium (or Red) back in the day. I never even used it, as I didn't watch a lot of UA-cam and back in the day when I did, there weren't ads like there are now. Fast forward 13 yrs and Google Play Music is now YT Music, which I don't hate but I keep because of all of the music I've collected & it's still a bargain getting both music and videos. My lifestyle has changed so I'm watching/listening to YT way more than other streaming services and I'm thankful I oops'd into YT Premium. The ads are ridiculous from what I've seen. Priorities are priorities and I always find it odd when people want to gatekeep other people's experiences or judge their decisions without knowing the "why". They say time is money, but that's a lie. Time > money. I can always find a way to make money, but we haven't figured out a way to beat time.
Hi! Viewer from Argentina here: I really hate the idea of not paying the appropriate price for memberships, but it is all we can do about it. Buying things online with our economy has become basically impossible since we don't know what the actual amount we will be paying would be, so we just don't do it, but some sites like UA-cam let us pay without that fear. Sadly, people are taking advantage of this and buying a LOT of things for way lower prices, so the sites we CAN buy things in are slowly realizing this and making it impossible for us to get these things. This exact thing happened with Steam a couple months ago, I've had my Steam account for 7 years now and since 20/9/23 I haven't been able to buy games because the site doesn't accept my currency anymore. I am very sorry this is happening, this is awful and I hope UA-cam does something about this.
UA-cam has already been cracking down on this unfortunately, if your billing region doesn't match your frequently accessed region/IP address, you'll likely get an email being deactivated
Holy shit I wasn't expecting that guy to be Georgian, I'm Georgian too and it's not that surprising because everything is literally free here if you come from rich countries
This is not an exploit. Pretty much every single international internet company has different rates for each of the currencies, which yes, for a variety of reasons, some can go significantly below than those of the big boy countries like the US. This is a thing on twitch too.
By definition, this is an exploit. People are making full use and deriving monetary benefits (spending less money than they should for a feature) by exploiting quick currency exchange systems and accessibility attempts made by UA-cam for weaker economies and the people living in them. Of course, this type of thing isn't a new thing. Japan was enabling something a bit similar until shit hit the fan; Steam allows developers to price each country individually instead of basing evey price of the dollar because of this. The difference is that Japan allowed people to make those moves and Steam showcases this phenomenon from the start. UA-cam certainly did not prepare for this development. An exploit is defined by the people taking advantage of a situation, not the ones using it properly. It doesn't matter that this is a real thing, this is not a glitch or bug, it's an exploit.
this video is so insanely out of touch it's laughable, mr millionare isn't gonna be able to buy his third house oh no i'm truly devastated. how dare those poor people wanna interact with their favourite youtuber
"I got three hundred dollars instead of a thousand dollars, this is literally a scam, youtube fix this how will I survive with only 20 thousand pounds a month"
If u make good worth while content people are gonna sub/donate to u anyway, i see it like piracy, piracy exists because of a supply problem, same thing in this scenario imo, if i see pyro making good contenct i donate to him how much i think his content is worth. Bro said himself he doesnt understand why poor people find methods to not pay anything, guess what, mybe because they are poor in the first place?
this was amazing to watch unfold on stream, and watching a vod from a few days ago afterwards and hearing you thank mystical for 50 gifties was the cherry on top lmao
It fathoms me how he just spit at poor countries and people giving their money even though they may have limited funds. That was a ridiculous spoiled kid video. Man I cringed the entire way.
The easiest solution is to let creators see the amount paid for the subscriptions and also change superchats to use the exchange rate value to determine how long to stay up instead of just the number of the currency. Maybe for poorer countries, they can decrease how much you need to spend to get a full duration superchat.
Oh! This has been a problem for vtubers for years now. Usually scammers/cheapskates would find a way to set their account to donate in Argentinian Pesos, which at the time this started was around only $5 for a $100 Akasupa, or Red Super Chat. As time had gone on, it'd gotten worse as membership gifts were made available, with many scammers gifting 50 gifteds, which ended up being pretty problematic, since memberships are actually VERY important for vtubers, with good amounts of content being put behind them, including things like membership wallpapers, usually at least bi-weekly membership streams, getting to play games with the vtuber, etc. So memberships were artificially made less valuable because of these. (Most vtubers set base membership price as 5 USD/GBP, like yourself.) And as the Argentinian economy has gotten worse and worse, it had gotten to the point where the $100 Akasupa equivalent was something like 70 cents. Thankfully, this problem was helped out a TON with the requirements being made different, and most will actually need to confirm that they have an Argentinian bank account, along with a card that supports said bank. Because of this, it meant that many people whom would have been able to cheap out on paying for stuff on YT now have to pay the intended price. Although things may have changed, and I know that things differ between countries, so maybe things aren't as better off now as I think they are. Either way, good slop!
Hello poor person with CPTSD here, yeah I feel really unsafe when my bank account is under 3k due to me needing a bigger safety net to compensate for my CPTSD symptoms. So you betcha I know how to make all of the prison foods. My favorite cookie recipe is 3 ingredients, I can cook anything in an air fryer, and microwaved eggs aren't as bad as they sound. The drawback is that sometimes we will do ANYTHING to save money, including saving money on things we shouldn't. For me most recently It was shoes. Even though I had 1k in the bank, my job was starting, my boyfriend helps pay for my food ... I still had never in my life owned a new pair of shoes. I had lots of foot pain and I thought it was just because I lived in America and didn't walk enough. Turns out it was my shoes. My dad came to visit me and saw I had holes in my shoes and they were causing me blisters on my heel. It was around my birthday so he spent ~€100 for new shoes for me. It's been over a month and I'm still finding it hard not to cry writing about it because it was such a big thing for me.
I don't know what all is wrong with me, but as long as people are nice to me and I get enough food/water I would gladly be studied. Free psych evaluation basically hahaha
for someone who has never considered the international pricing a service that is basically... access to videos, you're very quick to say it's ok to get a "discount" they're not doing this out of kindness, this is elastic pricing, they just create a curve and find the largest magnitude that says "this price equals biggest revenue"
3:55 So at the end of the day you got money and chat got memberships but it was only a few dollars at most. I'm so sorry this experience must have been incredibly traumatizing, thanking someone for giving you money for nothing in return but it turned out they were only giving you money for nothing in return. Absolutely horrid.
Summary: Entitled first world streamer is so mad he will only be able to afford 2 commissions instead of 6 this month he had to make a 22:20 video making fun of people that live in countries with messed up currencies, not realizing how much those donations can buy them in their countries and at the end of the day those "scamming" are still making a donation to a channel that only does slop, or to sum it up even more, Pyro being an eternal L as always.
Nah. The problem is the audience from rich countries abusing currencies outside their own as an exploit. At the end of the day, it's going to screw over the actual audience from these countries as counter-measures come into play. Best case scenario is probably still going to have impact: something along the lines of certain regions unable to gift memberships with restrictions on who can use certain currencies.
@@rexx5031 Brother these are donations and memberships to just some content here and there, with Steam games even If I hate the consequences for the people in those countries I can see the case since it affects indies that spend a ton on their game, with this nope, they are videos of which they already have the ad revenue, the superchats and memberships are donations. Only case I can see a little is premimum but tbh that is overpriced af for what it does. Pyro in this video only portrayed his greedy ass, specially since people like Ludwig or Charlie reduced it to the minimum and do way more membership content compared to Pyro.
@@insanianevi8089 Consider UA-cam streamers. This is not Twitch where you are getting billions of ads every 15 minutes even when streamers spam them. Multiple streamers I watch say a lot of their cash flow comes from memberships compared to donations and ads. This is a known exploit for a while for those that watch UA-cam streamers and I completely understand UA-cam making a change to stop it. Just like those indie developers on steam, there are people trying to make money for their content.
The thing with currencies is it is not a reflection on how goog the economy is(in some cases). Nations like china(not anymore) often make their currency purposefully weaker to incentivize export of goods. It also brings in foreign investors, ofc it can have its own problem like debt repayment and inflation. But if a nation wants to push for more exports the best way is to devalue a currency.
I never used a VPN btw. But honestly aren't the youtubers the ones shilling VPN services the most? I see a NordVPN Ads more frequently than actual quality content
UA-cam has been patching these recently, restricting to local payment methods and cancelling memberships. I never bothered with these since blocking UA-cam ads on my computer, phone and TV is extremely easy.
They are going to fix this and now in the third world we are not going to be able to pay memberships. The same thing happened with Steam Argentina😭
@@castielffboi5 dollars equal to like 6000 argentinian vbucks which is expensive

Being terminally ill is interesting, especially if you've been clinically de*d twice in 10yrs, and the one thing I hate more than paying for YT is the constant ADs being shoved at me, sucking up all the TIME I don't have, and causing me to DESPISE & NEVER BUY any of the products/services shoved down my throat!
please get ublock origin and the youtube revanced app and save your money
ReVanced UA-cam......free and better (skips in video ads)
Hi! Viewer from Argentina here:
I really hate the idea of not paying the appropriate price for memberships, but it is all we can do about it.
Imagine buying premium instead of going to “information” and skipping ads by hitting “I don’t like this ad” and “return to video”
Still takes time

This is not an exploit. Pretty much every single international internet company has different rates for each of the currencies, which yes, for a variety of reasons, some can go significantly below than those of the big boy countries like the US. This is a thing on twitch too.
And can be a thing in Steam as well.
Its a scam when people who live in richer countries use a vpn so they can use the weaker currency to spam donos. So yes it is a scam

Pyro explaining how exchange rates are different to an audience of two year olds is unintentionally hilarious
The easiest solution is to let creators see the amount paid for the subscriptions and also change superchats to use the exchange rate value to determine how long to stay up instead of just the number of the currency. Maybe for poorer countries, they can decrease how much you need to spend to get a full duration superchat.

W scam

Just like those indie developers on steam, there are people trying to make money for their content.
millionaire furry youtuber complains about not getting money
The thing with currencies is it is not a reflection on how goog the economy is(in some cases). Nations like china(not anymore) often make their currency purposefully weaker to incentivize export of goods.
It also brings in foreign investors, ofc it can have its own problem like debt repayment and inflation. But if a nation wants to push for more exports the best way is to devalue a currency.
UA-camrs deserve way less money anyway. They’d do the job for 20k a year instead of getting a real job.
Pay them less.
Most of your fav youtubers would never try to become youtubers if that was the case in the first place, so it's a dumb take.
It's quite disheartening that there are individuals exploiting the system this way. Hope UA-cam takes necessary actions soon.
I never used a VPN btw. But honestly aren't the youtubers the ones shilling VPN services the most? I see a NordVPN Ads more frequently than actual quality content
