fun fact about hemlock, they look EXTREMELY SIMILAR to queen Ann’s lace, which is a wild carrot. I was going to forage some, but it was far too similar for me to risk. if you look up the plants compared to one another, they have almost the same flowers, roots, etc.
Luckily they have some distinguishable features like the gaps between the flowers and if the ann’s have purple/red spots on the stem! Can definitely be scary if you dont have a picture of said plants to 100% distinguish the two or you’ve forgotten what they look like. Especially with hemlock being irritable if touched! Once they go into your eyes, mouth or a cut you’re completely fucked

Queen Ann’s lace also has a super obvious black dot of flowers in the middle of the cluster of white flowers. I grew up in an area where I’m pretty sure now also had hemlock, but it also had Queen Ann’s lace. I knew what the lace looked like pretty well as a kid, and I knew what the edible plants were. So I just avoided everything else. I’m surprised in hindsight I didn’t eat something that killed me…

ngl I absolutely love how easily distracted this guy is. I have adhd and the quick swap from creepy horror video to "why is venus inhospitable" and then a random deep dive on the environmental structure and patterns on mars and jupiter is very fun and super interesting. it's the exact way my brain works too and it's cool to see those thoughts and questions quickly satisfied

I thought that in the lethal Oman bunker the aluminium dome lit up and then the wood crawler disappeared meaning it worked but I may have misunderstood it.
@@Lovacain the woodcrawlers avoid fake humans, knowing they are already infected by another woodcrawler. The short wave radio inside the bunker plays the sounds of people screaming, (dubbed auditory hallucinations) which makes you sound like a fake human. "Do not panic, your tears are filled with salt." References the woodcrawler's basic ability to smell, which means if you do not cry or panic, you will smell like a fake human as well. The aluminum dome i assume is a signal amplifier so you can receive signals through the thick bunker.

That changes a lot about what we know of the Iris. Iris projects something onto Neptune, the lens. It then refracts that projection onto Saturn, the gateway, which possibly acts as a portal between dimensions that makes it come out of the Saturn in our reality, or the gateway is like an amplifier that sends the refracted stuff to Earth. But if the 'great red spot' not being an eye as an obvious nod to Iris literally being an eye isn't true because it's actually an open wound, how does Jupiter factor into the Iris's multistage method of projecting itself onto Earth?

@@MacCarthur I like the idea of Jupiter's sheer size making it a planetary protector. First I'm pretty sure it's gravitational pull catches a lot of asteroids that would've otherwise potentially stuck Earth, then it catches the planetary destroyer in one of the SCP articles, and now this.

So the lights, gardeners and woodcrawlers are separate aliens, the gardeners are those octopuses with glowing heads (the ones encountered in the marianas trench and in the caves) while the lights are some weird aliens that lurk humans and harvest them and finally the woodcrawlers have a gray skin and they have a single large glowing eye (as said in the wiki)

The listed effects of water hemlock are literally worse than those for Nature's Mockery. Deep Root Disease has a 60 day incubation time and might not even be technically fatal, but hemlock just ends you in 3 hours while you seize and convulse. I guess that there's something to be said for extreme suffering being worse than death, but they're at least comparable, which is both hilarious and terrifying.
Also, the Jenova theme blares in my mind when Nature's Mockery and the Woodcrawlers show up.

I honestly would NOT want my dreams recorded. I tried making a dream diary, until one day I checked out all my stories and realized how just absolutely abhorrent my dreams were. I only noted down a few before I stopped, I had one where I was in a cult and I had to stab three or four people several times for a ritual, blood poured and covered me. I can almost vividly remember it, it's like when you're trying to remember an old memory. I also had a dream where my whole family was held captive and tied up, and I got to watch them all get shot in the head. After the bang, their bodies just goes limp, like a ragdoll. These stories written down by me already makes me kinda nauseous remembering, why in God's name would I want it recorded?

Lore wise I believe it's just a different thing than the Mariana trench but (if my memory of my US high school junior year biology class serves me correct, it was only last school year so it should) what's essentially shown is a diagram of (what at least as far as us humans are aware) the deepest sections of the ocean as it is widely speculated that the Mariana trench *isn't* the deepest part of the ocean. It's just showing what (our) scientists theorize, estimate, and/or have data to back the graphing/diagraming.

Just wanna say about the water hemlock: it isn't just in America, it's in Europe too (Slavic Europe at least, where I live). On the whole space travel and planet colonization topic, Kurzgesagt actually has a great video on why Venus might actually be a better candidate for terraforming and colonization that Mars, but that terraforming and colonizing either planet would take multiple thousands of years.
But Venus is not in the habitable zone ? That's why many are interested in Mars.

And then there are quite a few other steps you have to do to get rid of the harmful chemicals in the atmosphere and create a habitable atmosphere, but again, the Kurzgesagt video explains it better than I ever could in a youtube comment.

@@chruomble When you compare it to Far Cry New Dawn and 6, it's pretty good. The story is pretty well made, Joseph Seed is a cool and interesting villain, and overall the gameplay is decent.
The danger of Water Hemlock is that from the ground up it looks incredibly similar to cowparsley. Cowparsley used to be used a lot of food and medicine- imagine foraging for food and just keeling over and not knowing why
