Two of my favorite podcasters together! Really enjoyed this - it was a natural, warm and humerus conversation. You both had great chemistry. Thank you!

I like Stephen because he manages not to be woke without drifting completely to the right and into conspiracy theories, climate denialism or anti-vaccine nuttery, as you can see with many anti-woke people like Weinstein or James Lindsay who have completely lost their minds. We need more sensible people like Stephen.

The massive problem with the Hirsi Ali / Peterson "it's either Christianity or it's wokeness / radical Islam in the West" binary is that it assumes that Christianity has actually been any sort of a bulwark at all against wokeness, or that it's a realistic carrot to dangle in front of radical Muslims. The reality is that Christian churches and denominations have been just as overrun by wokeness as any other institution, and that almost no one wants to convert to weak tea Christianity from Islam. So, really rationality is still the gold standard for freethinkers and secularists, but we need to think more about what sorts of structures we advocate in their stead for those who are prone to, or need, strong organising ideologies. What those might be I genuinely don't know, but we should put our best minds together to work it out. Much easier to diagnose the problem than find solutions!

Hirsi Ali strikes me as someone who has just discovered a new cause and is now advocating it with great commitment without really having given it much thought. The urgent desire to be Christian, or rather: anything but Muslim, seems to me to be the greatest driving force. But of course Dawkins is right.

It’s not personality types, it’s cultural. Constantine grew up in Russia and they are more honest and direct. I’m British living in Germany and if you ask someone if they like your hair or new jacket or whatever, you can expect an honest answer, not the polite one. They don’t mean to be rude, they assume you want to really know their opinion otherwise why ask? I think it builds trust when you know people are direct and being honest. By the way, love your hair Stephen :) That was British humour crossed with German honesty:)

@@agentorange6806 Hey! I'm great thanks for asking. No longer doing Attwood, as that particular Wed show is no more. I might pop up again on there at some point in the future, who knows? 👍

ME Thomas’ book is shit. I suppose in a way, you kind of expect it from someone who is a psychopath. They are often shallow, superficial, self absorbed and glibly self-reflective.
Stripped of all their disguise in order to fit in with the rest of us, I think they are quite dull and unpleasant people
