I'm such a recluse the only thing I do on VRchat is check out other people's worlds in private and be amazed at everyone's creativity. The moment I accidentally walk into a public portal or forget to click "Invite Only", I freak out and nearly panic. ....Yeah, I need to work on that. Told myself I should invest in a legit VRchat avatar to push me into being a bit more social, but that step in itself is like a mountain for me.
In my opinion the avatar won't help nearly as much as the baby steps of exposure therapy you could be doing in low population publics or group instances. But if that's the push you need, you can expect to pay around 70-100 bucks for a simple retexture.
Nah, just lose yourself in avi search and grind through the thousands of avis on there. I guarantee u gonna pick up one or another. I'm picky as well, but liking 1 in 1000 is enough. Go on booth/gumroad/whatever in your overlay and copy the model names that you like into the avi search. Also for more rare models or newer ones, I had better results in the Yet Another Avi Search world, because it seems to give more results, but less refined ones, compared to prismatics. Also for the booth models, there is the avatar museum. Or actually countless versions of it at this point. Now if you're looking for a base to modify, the older booth models are really cheap nowadays, since the yen tanked super hard since then and they never changed the prices.
i feel that.. there so much stuff i wanna do on vrchat but when you know there will be unpredictable people who will either be nice or be the worst of humanity it makes you really nervous. the last time i was in a public world it was the mcdonalds world and some kid put on a crasher avatar. im waiting until i turn 18 in some weeks so i can join age-verified worlds and deal with way less terrible people

As someone that doesn't cope with crowds, I do stay on Blue most of the time and nobody pops in on me from my friends list. Occasionally I will go into low number public worlds, but only occasionally.
TBH, it's very hard to meet people and hang out with them. And the funny thing, that I want to do that, lol. I want to talk about different stuff, but I remain silent very often. And traveling to the open worlds is hell for me.
It was so much better when public worlds were fun to be in, before the Quest. To be clear, I'm not a PCVR supremacist (although it is objectively the best way to enjoy the game because you can't see the best version of an avatar on Quest), however with the introduction of that headset came a flood of unsupervised children that kind of ruined it for everyone. It would be nicer and frankly safer if they could be relegated to their own corner somewhere so everyone else could enjoy going out and meeting more people way easier. I just met someone completely new to VRC for the first time in ages the other night and they highlighted how difficult it is to even get started meeting people and finding out what kinds of groups you might click with now unless you've already got friends on the game.
I'm one of those said new people and even i'm finding it hard to click with groups i've been pulled in to by friends. Being a desky doesn't help matters, everyone seems to (subconsciously) exist around you like you have covid and not really want to interact with you. it's a sad and depressing virtual existence.

But I love it when in rare cases someone comes along and (proverbially) grabs me by the hand and pulls me in to a circle to talk. Even if i feel really out of my bubble, i often need that push, and people who can see that i'm trying, and just be patient with me. It happened today actually. Friday night drinking instance, I made a new friend who could see i was standing around struggling to participate in the social ethos of the room, but the more they 'involved' me in taking part in the activities and games, the more i could feel people warming up to my presence. I think eventually everyone was too drunk to care that I didn't have FBT and they could just chill and talk to me and share some laughs. VRChat needs more people like that honestly. Desky or not, us shy beans sometimes need a bit of a nudge and someone to break the silence with us.
In my experience the reason why I don't join groups is simply because I'm not that invested, i suppose. Another thing is I feel very alienated in the current culture of VRChat, whilst a long time ago around 2017 I felt right at home. Not so much anymore.
Very true for irl random meet ups as well. If you are that one random person that doesn't know anyone it's awkward as heck even if there's nothing really problematic going on
Probably for the same reason I haven't gotten into VR chat. Unless you have a group of friends already to go in with or to join then it's really intimidating and often difficult to meet people really. I tried and most furry channels I joined had screaming kids and I just left. I haven't really tried since. This may change in the future if more of my fur friends get VR stuff and want to get into it with me, but otherwise I don't see it happening.
Avoid quest compatible worlds or just go to more regulated VRC furry worlds, or join some groups and go to group instances, almost guaranteed no squeakers at those.
Jokes aside, this is why I'm hoping Riff XR or 'Light No Fire' with VR will save us... A VR space needs to be a Game first and a Social Community second, unlike VRChat, so people actually have something to do in game and a reason to return, while waiting for potential new friends to show up.

Lwhat if the games are pretty bad, then no one will want to play it or something. There are some worlds on vrchat which have made me some friends; kitchen cooks, haunted asylum, for example. @@datfurry- Think of your over-all favorite game, whether it's 7 Days to Die with the VR mod, Minecraft, Bonelab or whatever, but with extra server worlds and mix that with VRChat with hub worlds and new players showing up in your world? That would be pretty awesome.
Tried out vr chat a few months ago checking out worlds and I got followed by a bunch of furry avatars while they were harassing me and claiming I was following them when I actively tried to avoid them so I could keep exploring while trying out skins, it was really annoying not to mention discouraging as an ex furry. Even when I tried stating I'm minding my own business they kept getting in my face and talking over me while making fun of my voice. They were the only people that went out of their way to interact with me. I couldn't really get into or talk to anyone else.
I’d personally want to join more but it seems like most people don’t really wanna invite new friends, or they him and haw saying they wanna but they’re busy. Like just give me a real no if you don’t wanna invite an outsider from a public world
Because its incredibly hard to be a part of any group. People get incredibly standoffish as soon as there is so much as 2 people already talking friend groups calcify faster then milk curdles here.
I kinda, Lost my desire to touch open Multiplayer VR experiences of any sort once we hit the Point of 'Quest Kiddies'. The meta quest being so cheap and easy to use led to a PLETHORA of children spilling into VRC and games like PavlovVR. Hard to want to get on and meet people, make friends, when every single Lobby/World has one more more screeching 12 year olds.
I'm interested in trying VRChat, but see that while it has versions for Windows and apparently also Android OS, it doesn't run on Mac or iOS (nor Linux, for that matter), so that makes it a no-go for me.
@@JeepinBoon well yeah, everything can run on linux if you're willing to put up with it. You might need to recompile your kernels and break everything else though.
But like, you've gotta realize. Once you've got most people who were going to buy into VR already on VR, and the economy isn't good enough to support most people buying VR setups, you get very few newcomers. Simple as

I run VRChat from Steam in Linux…
