I appreciate this video. I have spinal stenosis, and had been looking for a machine to help strengthen my core. The rower caused me more pain in my spine, but the Skierg caused no pain at all. This video helped understand the two better thank you. To be clear, I am not against the rower, its movement caused me more pain, but the skierg didn't. I added a ten minute workout on a stair master along with the skierg. With the both of them together, I can finally pick up a 45 pound case of water again. Thank you for the information.
I love my skierg. But I also love nordic skiing so for me it was an easy choice. However both machines are great. The fact that they are very popular way outside the confines of their respective sport are a testament to that.
Rower!!! Hands down!!! 10,000 meters everyday!!!! ... after the pandemic time to get back into shape!! And that machine my friends will do it!!! I currently own the octane lateral 8000... best investment ever!!! But rowing IS the best workout!! In my opinion!!!! Great review!!
It's in fact not a problem, I watch youtube while using my skierg. A correct double polling position allows you also to keep a constant eye on the "track". But, it's a harder workout, so you might not get thru "The Irishman"
@Wille it's a suitable tool also for nonskiers I guess. But, when you use it try to emulate the skiing technics (search double polling in youtube). Suggest you find somewhere to try it out, and when you do try a low intensity session for at least 10 minuts. I you hate it after 10 minuts its maybe not the right tool. No question its very effective for upper body especially core training. One issue I find is that its hard for my back to use it harder than rollerskiing (and snow skiing for that matter).
Unless it has changed with the newer models of the rower, you forgot to say that the rower can easily be split for storage which pretty much halves it height. It is an extra step but it is relatively quick and easy to do. Also I think it is a lot more stable/safe stored split. When buying the Skieg I thought the price of the stand was steep (I still think it is tbh) but it is a quality piece of equipment that is well made and I am glad I opted for the stand as it means I can move it if needed and I find it easier to clean if I pull it out into the room which wouldn't be possible had I fixed it to the wall. I wish there was a cover for the Skierg like there is for the rower. Shame no one seems to make them.
A Concept2 representative says the following in this video: ua-cam.com/video/AVLE3Od5hOQ/v-deo.html "I believe proper rowing technique is probably a little more important than proper technique here (skierg) just for the safety of your back and things like that"
@@leskugel1520 how does it compare to the rower in terms of calories burned and how it works the body? I used to have the rower but had to sell it because it really couldn't fit in my place
I have the rowing and the skierg in Puerto Rico, part of my gym and vasa trainers machines to. The concept2 machines are ecelents incredible tools.💪🏻⚡️🌪
At my Ymca I am fortunate enough to have both Row Erg and Skierg they compliment each other. I add the Jacob's Ladder for intervals on my cardio day. Nice video. Thankyou 🙏👹
I have a rowerg and bikerg. I burn far more calories on the bike according to the monitor. The rowing machine for me is a much more difficult movement. My primary sport is Mountain Biking so maybe that why why pedaling a bike is far easier physically and mentally. C2 makes the best products and their support is 2nd to none!
I have the rower just on my 4 million meters but can’t motivate my self anymore, recently got the bike and I seem to get a better workout from the bike, looking at the ski and possibly get rid off the rower. If I had the space I would keep all three. Would I get bored with the ski erg ? Why I like the bike more in 2019 I broke my neck C2 but survived, so getting back on the bike I love it, but I have given up cycling on the road due to my injury. So my main fitness is bike, I think the ski will work my arms shoulders belly and possibly ski/bike erg will work well together any thoughts will be welcomed Robert
I recently bought both. What is a good way to incorporate both into the same workout? Could you do a video of you incorporating both in the same workout to give us a good idea of how to make use of their complimentary nature?
great video👌 I am a cyclist and skier. Nordic ski is perfect training for lower as well upper body. In the summer i mostly ride or run. Shall I buy the rower or the skierg? 🤔 thanks for any help
Definitely! It's been done but I don't condone it just at the pure risk factor of the machine not staying stabilized and either falling and breaking, or falling and hurting someone.
Anyway you can post and critique the 1k rows from the game’s and compare techniques and times. Would love to hear your point of view on the top athletes.
As a nordic skier, I would recommend the Skierg, because it is closer to nordic skiing (classic) than something that simulates rowing. However, if you are a rower, you might want to consider the rowing machine.
bike. think legs. also your legs are not working at the same time, just like in running you are moving one and then other, like a propeler. but rowing is also good, just for the fact its hard and requires full body work.
Discussion of difference in the movement (how it works your body) differently begins at 5:34 - before that is weight, dimensions, price.
Thank you 🙏🏿❤️
Thank you

I've had the rower for over 15 years, just picked up a skierg and am so glad I did, great addition to my workouts. Get both!
Would you say the Skierg is better than the Rower if somebody has low back or tight hip flexor issues?

I use both at the Gym. I vary time between the two. I have the rower at home. It saved me during lockdown!

I have the rower, and the Echo bike, and today I just copped a Ski Erg. Can't wait for it to get here!
Nice job. I like the fact that if you include them both in one workout, you’ve kind of worked everything.
It’s nice to watch tv/movie on a long row to ease the possible boredom; doing so on a skierg not so.

Both, I am super happy for both mine 🚣🏼⛷
Everyone is!
I bought all three - best things ever - love it - love it - love it.
The best!
Just curious. Do you have a Airbike?
Dude. Phenomenal job on this video. You Really know your stuff.. great job explaining the differences! Thanks!

Great idea! And you're right, the machine can absolutely be broken in to two pieces and significantly compact the storage.
Shane. You didn’t address which is easier to learn the proper motion? Rower or Skierg? And, which machine exposes the user to injury the most?

Apples and oranges 👍 I was hoping this was going to be the answer, i love them both ☺️👍
With your future Rower vs Bike-Erg video, you may want to caution about getting all 3 to prevent inShane workouts like Bike + Ski at the same time.
Great evaluation of the benefits of each machine. Thanks!
Thanks for your videos! Please do do the video of Rower v BikeErg and then one final one of Bike Erg v Skierg.

Hi how about buying a model which supports both functions like impulse hsr 007 ski and row
I am buying both this weekend. I can't wait to set them up and start using them soon.
Which do you use more often?
Yea man, knowing how to row helped. Made the rower fun and useful.
It's definitely an important factor. Without it the machine can just feel like such a black hole.

Great video very objective extremely informative
Great video addressing exactly my choice! At 6’5” am I too tall for the skierg? Planning to use it as a tru xc trainer, not CrossFit-style. Thanks!
Also interesten in max effective height for skierg, I'm 191cm tall.
In a pinch you could adapt a rower into a ski-esque erg by bracing it vertically against a wall/post. Kinda kill 1.75 birds with one stone 😄

Is a rowing machine good for over 50?
Get a row machine. Skierg cardio exercise could easily be replaced with more versatile battle ropes.
As a nordic skier, I would recommend the Skierg, because it is closer to nordic skiing (classic) than something that simulates rowing. However, if you are a rower, you might want to consider the rowing machine.
I would buy rower first then ski erg
